I love the Asian supplies in this grocery store! They have odd things I can't find anywhere else, including frozen whole durians! The Vietnamese owner is the cashier, and while she's not on the floor during business hours, you can ask if an item is available. Ramen twelve- packs, hotpot soup bases, refrigerated greens, kimchi, tofu and a variety of eggs: Chicken, duck, quail and 100 year old eggs. There's also frozen prepared foods like dumplings, BBQ pork buns, spring rolls, and Chinese sausages. Want some frozen fish, crab, or shrimp or fish balls? They have it here! Joss sticks, altar candles (red), and Buddha statues available. Don't worry if the neon sign for "Open" isn't on: There's plenty of street parking on Niagara and side streets, and these are hard-working owners. read more

I checked to make sure they restock items often because the last time I reviewed a neighborhood favorite place someone cleaned out their Boba tea and Jackfruit in water and it's never been back. It's a well sized store considering it's in the city and they make use of every single inch of space. If it's Vietnamese they have it. If it's Asian or African they might have it too. Their frozen items are extensive. I think I counted three different kinds of fish heads alone (which...not something I'm gonna eat but it speaks to the variety of items). They are also very well stocked with snacks of all types, sweet or savory. They are a *little* bit more expensive than my usual go to Vietnamese store but it's worth it for the wide array of items and the boba tea of course. read more

This awesome oriental grocery is tucked away on Niagara street and is owned and operated by the same people as Niagara seafood restaurant next door. The place has a very authentic feel, from the various meats in buckets to the unidentifiable imported goods found in the refrigerated section. We have to say that it is not for everyone, and if you like the glossy convenience of stores like Wegmans you might not feel at home here. But if you are like us and appreciate local, authentic stores and restaurants offering hard to find goods at bargain prices with friendly staff then you will love A Chau as much as we did. The selection here is specifically oriental and they offer almost anything an enthusiast could ask for. From produce like fresh Thai basil, watercress and killer chilis to bowls, chopsticks and woks with every kind of spice, edible sea critter and sauce you could ever ask for. We got every ingredient (including bowls, chopsticks and spoons) to make an awesome homemade pho for a fraction of what it would have cost at wegmans or tops (most of which you couldn't have even found there). Our only complaint was the organization; it was a bit cramped and cluttered (which actually added to the authenticity) and some of the fresh herbs weren't labeled. A nearby employee was more than happy to help however and all in all this was an awesome find and we will definitely be back for any and all of our oriental needs. Don't forget to stop into Niagara Seafood next door for the best pho in town and some amazing Vietnamese food. read more

Went there today [04/26/2021] in the afternoon in search of another source of my favorite Banh Bao... Although they were out of stock in the mid-afternoon, that said to me... "they must have some good ones!" but without seeing, I can only guess. The store is like many of the Asian Markets in the WNY area, Narrow aisles can be difficult to navigate if you use a cane to get around.. (The aisles are narrow enough that I could get around without my cane, but my cane is my BUDDY! :-) It is a somewhat difficult address to reach from the Southtowns, but if you live north of here, it is DEFINATLY a place to check out. They are well stocked, so if you don't find it here, you'll likely have to go to NYC or L.A. (WOW L.A) in your life if you started eating Asian food there, you would never eat at all the restaurants In that city!) But you are in the WNY area, I encourage you to at least take a look once... A Chau is owned by the same ppl from Niagara Seafood across the street. They specialize in more Vietnamese and Thai groceries rather than Chinese. Lot of good cheap produce in here as well as cuts of meat only Asians would dare eat. My only problem is that a lot of the meats don't label what it is so you have to know your stuff or be daring. read more

This quaint little market has many of your Asian needs/cravings for very reasonable prices! I packed my shopping basket to the very top and only spent $30. I wanted to make pad Thai and spring rolls for the first time and they had all of the ingredients I needed-- from Thai basil to tamarind in a can to rice paper. There's even a whole section for noodles but the aisles are very narrow and can be difficult to walk through if you're not a tiny person. They have noodles for pad Thai (medium sized rice sticks) and for your spring rolls (vermicelli), and much more! But make sure you know the name of the noodles you plan on getting ahead of time especially if you can't read in Vietnamese. I also found my favorite boxed Thai tea mix; get it with a can of condense milk and you'll never buy Thai iced tea again!! You're welcome :) read more

Probably my favorite of the oriental groceries I've explored in Buffalo. A'chau 2 really shines in it's selection of fresh herbs & frozen ingredients. They've got the requisite small, cramped aisles packed with canned/jarred/vacuum sealed, soups, sauces, teas and specialty items but I mostly go there for the herbs, some of the veggies and the very wide selection of frozen meats & fish. You can't go wrong buying a large bag (at least a pound) of bean sprouts for a buck. You would pay at least 6 or 7 bucks for that at Wegmans. A fist-sized bag of killer Thai chilis for a similarly low price. Or a big bag of thai basil, or mint, or dozens of other herbs or a bunch of lemongrass stalks - they're all here, fresh and inexpensive. They have fresh meat and fish on weekends, though they have just opened up a fish market across the street so they may discontinue the fish here. You'll find a ton of hard to find meat items in the freezer - want a whole pork belly? No problem. Probably the widest selection of Offal (frozen) I've seen in Buffalo. Service has always been friendly. On occasions where I was overwhelmed by 15 brands of fish sauce or some other product I was unfamiliar with the cashier has always been happy to let me know what brand he uses at home. read more

Had a lot of vietnamese ingredients, good because I am viet myself. Cleaner than some stores I've been to in Buffalo. Variety of your dried noodles, sauces, spices, asian treats, fresh scallions, veggies. Even has asian utensils/cuterly. They also have some meats, fish, to frozen dumplings. Only con I would say was I was surprise I didn't see much variety of tofu. Although it is not a large asian supermarket, it does provide the basics for most viet dishes and for low prices (lower than wegmans for sure) read more

If you love to cook and explore, this place is a must visit! The narrow aisles are piled high with Vietnamese, Thai, and other Asian specialty items. Any condiment, crazy candy, or pickled chile you could ever want is right at your fingertips. For the truly adventurous, they have a wide selection of frozen and fresh meats and seafoods, and some very unusual cuts and products that are difficult to find. Went here to pick up a few things to make spring rolls and bought some loose tea to make thai iced tea as well. The workers are super friendly and willing to help you out. The aisles are a bit narrow, but I'm small so it was no problem. They have lots of options, fresh veggies, and what appeared to be quite a frozen meat selection. I will never shop there again! I was primarily looking for siamese ginger root also known as or galanga root. I was treated so horribly, by whom I perceived to be the owner. He was the only person who spoke english in the store. When I asked him a question about a particular item, he ignored me. When I tried to get his attention again, He yelled at me, in a sarcarctic tone " I'm busy" hw wasn't. He was just standing behind the check out counter. I went to A Chau hoping to get some Korean food ingredients, but did not find a single thing I needed. The selection seemed to be mainly Vietnamese and Thai. So this is really not a full Asian store. I wouldn't have had a problem buying from them if I had found my ingredients, but I did have some qualms about the area it was in, which is quite run down and dirty. I'm sure it is a great store if you're looking for Vietnamese and Thai, but other cuisines are hit or miss. read more
