This is a small Korean Store not far from us. There are a few Asian stores nearby but it's always nice to have another option when you're looking for specific items. We were greeted with the super friendly welcome upon entering. After wandering through and picking up a few items we headed to the counter and had a great conversation with the owner. I noticed several kids drawings on the wall. She explained they were done by children of customers while the parents shopped and she then hung them up like a parent would do. She pointed out different ones with stories about these returning children who would be excited to see their picture on the wall and even years later point them out to others. Love this place! I've been going for about two-Ish years now whenever I crave any Asian goods. the front desk lady is super friendly and welcoming along with her husband who sometimes works too. it's small and pretty cozy and has so many varieties of foods/snacks. if you're in the area I'd recommend stopping by! One of the absolute best mart owners in the Buffalo area! The hospitality and customer attention definitely inspire customer loyalty! SIDE DISHES: Along with the groceries, there is a nice selection of side dishes made by the female owner herself. Others have raved about the homemade kimchi so this trip was long overdue. It's so delicious right out of the container that it's hard to wait those few weeks to ferment to perfection without gobbling it up! SELECTION: The grocery selection is limited only to the smaller space. The shop is pretty small compared to some of the other Asian grocery stores in the area. OWNERS: The mart is owned and run by a very sweet couple. The isles are narrow so the female owner offered to watch my baby at the front while i did my shopping and he absolutely loved her. Not only did she help me find exactly what I needed, but she even carried my grocery bag out and put it in the car to help me out since the weather wasn't very nice and I had an infant. The wall near the register is covered with drawings kids of costumers have done while their parents shopped. It's so refreshing to meet such down to earth and wonderful business owners. In conclusion, this is a family friendly and wonderful small business that has just what I need for my recipes at home. I am more than happy to support Hana Mart in the future. They have Korean red ginseng! I'm so, so happy I found this Korean market. They also have all the Japanese brands I like, so I'll be able to have a beautiful Oshogatsu this year. The owner was so friendly and helpful to us, I felt very welcome and safe. The prices and selection were good. They have many things that can't be found anywhere else I've gone in Buffalo area. Hana Mart is a small store (with a blue roof), but they have just about everything one needs to make Asian meals. It is a "mom & pop" store; both are so nice. There is plenty of parking. Keep in mind that there is a $20 minimum for credit card use, so bring cash or just buy more. Not hard to add to your shopping basket! Update: Just went to buy natto and rice, added more things and ended up with a $46 bill. read more

Hana Mart is a wonderful family owned Asian grocery store that may be small in size but big on selection and customer service. The fresh kimchii is the best in Western New York. They're even open on Sundays (after church) from 1- 4pm, while other Korean groceries are closed entirely on Sundays. read more

I was referred to this store by someone that is well aware of my love for dumplings. While walking up and down the aisles, a very friendly, young lady named Lindsey came over to welcome me and ask if I needed help. She took me right over to the dumpling area and pointed out all different kinds of dumplings and let me know she was there to help if I had any questions. There were so many varieties to choose from. She asked what i needed and she went and got everything I wanted then she helped with cooking instructions and then brought it out to my car for me. I can't believe I've never reviewed Hana before. I come up from Ellicottville to shop here all the time. I always grab fresh bean sprouts, rice cakes and lotus roots for my hot pot. And I also snag some frozen beef dumplings, radish kimchi (they make there own and package it, it's spicy and funky and awesome) and a wide variety of snacks. The auntie that runs this place is awesome, she remembers me even though I only get up that way once or twice every couple months. She's always super friendly. Last time I was there, they were switching over their credit card machine and it took quite a bit to check out. (I didn't mind, I get technical difficulties happen) but their daughter gave me a free Melona (Honeydew and milk popsicle) for my wait. Unnecessary kindness and it went a step farther, as they noticed my mom waiting for me in the car so they ran out a popsicle for her as well. Such a nice gesture and it shows how much they care about their customers. I'm a loyal shopper for life!! My favorite thing about korean grocery stores is their pre-pared food. They have a good selection of pre-prepared food like the jap-chae, pan fried tofu, and dried spicy squid, also their kimchee comes in the perfect pint sized containers for me. Also, the lady who owns it told me that if I every need to order a large order of marinated kalbi she could do so if for me, if I gave her notice. Maybe a good idea for a summer BBQ. read more

I've been a fan of Hana Mart since first discovering it six years ago. It's a small grocery store owned by a local family. The store is always nice and clean and neatly arranged, and while the selections are not as extensive as at some other stores, both the gentleman and the lady owners of the store know the products that they sell and would happily help explain those products and their uses to their customers. The items are mostly geared toward Korean products and Korean cooking with some popular Japanese products available as well. I was able to find nori, unagi, and both okonomiyaki flour mix and frozen pre-made okonomiyaki among the product selections. All the products are of good quality and are reasonably priced. For me personally though, one of the real draws of Hana Mart is the panchan (Korean side dishes) made by the lady owner herself. And the kimchi of course. I have been guilty of coming back to Hana Mart only for the panchan and the kimchi. The lady owner is a good cook, and she makes quite a variety of side dishes, more selections than I've seen in most Korean groceries. All of the ones I've tried are good, though of course I have certain favorites that I can't resist buying every time I visit. The lady owner also makes japchae on Fridays. Sometimes she also makes kalbi and bulgogi and sells them raw but ready for cooking. The other real draw of Hana Mart is the owners themselves. They are friendly and personable, and they pay attention to their customers. If you allow them to, they will happily learn your shopping habits, and they will recommend you new things to try or give suggestions on how to use things that you'd like to try. They provide amazing customer service. I haven't had less than a pleasant experience visiting their store. Overall, if you're interested in Korean or Japanese food products, I'd suggest giving Hana Mart a try. read more

The selection in the store is fairly small but they have all of the staple items you'd be looking for from an Asian grocery. The girl working the counter was very friendly and super helpful. A nice little Korean grocery store right down the street from Arirang, a decent Korean eatery. The selection's not nearly as wide as Best Asian Market up the street, but the staff and prices make it worthwhile to stop in. I did so recently to buy a few homemade panchan (side dishes) from the ajuma (middle-aged lady) who owns the store, and ended up chatting with her 20-year-old daughter. As it turns out, until two years ago, they lived in Seoul, and are now making their way in Buffalo while the daughter attends the University of Buffalo for nursing. Luckily, there's a sizable Korean population at UB in need of freshly-made kimchi -- and a few waygukin (foreigners) like me who can't get enough. In fact, they kindly sent me home with a tub of the stuff for free, after I asked for just a little out of the case to go with my fish cakes and spicy tofu. "My mother has decided you will take this whole thing," the daughter told me, wrapping it up with a smile. "She knows you'll be back for more." Though the market is very small, I was able to procure some Kalbi (7.99/lb) gochujang (4$) and some in house made kimchi (I think it was $5 for a big container). This is my favorite local Asian grocery store for two reasons: the kimchi and the owners. The kimchi here is the right amount of spicy and very saucy which I happen to love. I will basically eat it straight out of the tub anytime, anywhere. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. I've come in before asking for advice on ingredients for a few recipes and their response was always helpful. As other reviewers have said, the store is small, so it makes for a limited selection, but this place has just really grown on me over the years. I know chains like Wegmans are carrying more Korean items now, but I will always make the separate trip for Hana Mart kimchi and think they are a wonderful local business to support. read more

During a bird brained bonanza of New Year's resolutions I once tried to quit meat. The endeavor lasted 2 weeks. Now I've come to my senses that a Flexitarian diet fits my lifestyle. Luckily Hana Mart carries foods that appeals to a wide variety of diets. And since Korean food is notoriously known for it's emphasis on flavor and MEAT (BBQ) you can get ingredients for both here! They carry frozen short ribs for kalbi but I prefer to get my kalbi freshly cut from The Meating Place on Grant St. Hana Mart has sales every now and then. Today I picked up 2 for 1 (17 oz) bottles of Korean barbeque marinade for $3.99. They special was valid for CJ brand Korean BBQ Marinade and Cooking Sauce (Original, Pineapple, and Spicy varieties) for bulgogi or kalbi. You can also grill seafood with these sauces. The best part is that they are made with fruit puree, have no added MSG, and have 0g trans fat. BBQ isn't your thing? Don't worry. They have vegetarian mandu (dumplings) as well. While I miss cucumber dumplings from Trader Joes you can find other yummy vegetarian versions here like Kimchi mandu. They even have vegetarian versions made with TVP (textured veggie protein or soy by-product) if you want the hearty meat texture in your bites. The kitchen puts out some tasty home made panchan (side dishes). Yeah you can get free refills to your heart's content at most Korean restaurants. But it's a little harder when you are having DIY BBQ at home so the variety here is sizable and fresh. On Fridays the kitchen has fresh Jap Chae (sweet potato vermicelli noodles with stir fried vegetables and beef). Saturdays specialty is kim bab (sliced rolls of seaweed , cooked vegetables, rice and then some meat or fishcake). read more

I recently moved to Buffalo from Los Angeles and have only been to a couple Asian markets but Hana Mart has a pretty big selection of Japanese products. I was pleasantly surprised and excited because I wasn't expecting to find any Japanese products in Buffalo. Their kimchi is delicious. I will definitely be going here all the time. read more

New Store and now my favorite kimchi source. 10 times better than the canned kimchi in supermarket and not more expensive. Used to get kimchi from Sung's Oriental, now I preferred the lighter touch of this one -tastes fresh sweet. Perfect as a side dish and available anytime in your frig. (I think Sung's is good for cooking) I am happy for having more kimchi choice. read more

I was recommend to come her by a friend who is Korean ans when I mentioned this to the owners they asked to see a photo & they automatically recognized my friend. After reading previous reviews I decided to stop by and check out the store. The cashier at the front was really friendly and explained to me how the kimchi is homemade and fresh.. I decided to buy some along with the rice cakes . The kimchi was really good I had it as a side dish and I added some to my pho soup it was delicious. Love Hana Mart! The friendly lady always greets with a big smile, and very kind employers. Hana Mart has the real home-made Korean side dishes which I love so much...I love their Kimchi, Tofu side dishes, jap-chae(Noodle side dish), the Korean roll Kim-bab. I pick up 2~3 kinds of side dishes, Kimchi and Jap-chae whenever I go, and have the cooked rice ready, then I am good to go for about a week. Hana Mart also has a variety of selection on each item, so that I can compare and pick the best. Ask the lady which one is the best seller, and she recommends the best ones! ^^ Even though you are not planning to make specific Asian food, you can always find good food items in the store.
