I lived in California and was seeking someone who would work out of state with me, not rip me off, and give a thorough inspection knowing that I wasn't going to be there to see it for myself. I found Mr. Kevin! and let me tell you, this guy is the BEST out there. I called him on a Friday afternoon and asked if he could be there for the weekend for an inspection. He wasn't able to make it due to prior obligations, but he was out first thing on the following Monday. I explained to Kevin that I needed someone who was ethical and worked with integrity because I wasn't there to inspect with him. He understood my concerns and reassured me that he would take his time and do the best that he could, regardless of me not being there. Just talking to him on the phone I could hear his passion and his ethics involved with the business. I felt like I could trust him and I'm glad that I did. I had concerns with 3rd party interference and distraction while he was inspecting the home and he told me "Shelby, I work for you, no one else. I promise I won't let anyone distract me from what I was hired to do." After the inspection and prior to me receiving the report, Kevin called me in the evening (around 8pm Michigan time) to discuss the findings and give me his opinions on the property. Kevin told me that he'd inspect even square inch of that house and that is exactly what he did. He sent me a massive report of all the findings, big and small and I was very thankful for that. This report gave me tremendous negotiating power on the house and allowed me to come under what I was expecting on the close price. He has also done inspections on a few other houses within those years and has saved me from some very large home repairs in a house that I would not have been able to afford not knowing it had termites or structural damage, or whether the electrical box and outlets are up to code (which were some of the findings that made me decide not to go through with the purchase). He is fantastic at walking through the entire house with you and showing you everything he finds that you should be aware of, not just the negatives either. He's great at telling you the pro's, con's, as well as the little things like - in a few years you might want to do this or that... or if you did this right away, it may help prevent this or that happening. He was more than happy to answer my many questions at each inspection, and at the end of the inspection provides a very detailed report with several pictures and his comments on areas that need work or that the homeowner should be aware of. He has no issues getting into crawl spaces or attics, searching for mold and mildew or evidence of leaks and things like that, or getting on top of the roof. After living in my home for less than a month and having family members in and out to see the…read moreplace, I can say with confidence that JW Home Inspection Services of West MI are HORRIBLE!! We've found several major issues not listed in our inspection report done by George McNees, including but not limited to a HOLE in the basement wall that goes all the way to the outside where a floor joist has completely rotted away, and a cross beam in the garage that the previous owners had Macgyver'd to stay up while part of it was also rotting away. The cross beam is so rickety that I fear for it breaking in half and crashing through the windshield of my car. On top of the major issues George didn't see, there have been several minor issues that are now my responsibility to deal with that, had I known, I would have pressured the seller to fix before purchasing. George was WAY too comfortable telling me as first time home buyer that these are just simple issues that aren't worth using as a bargaining chip in negotiations. I am livid with my experience. It was not worth the $473 I paid, now knowing I'll have to pay hundreds if not thousands of more dollars to fix things George McNees/JW didn't spot and/or lied to me about what should be my responsibility versus the seller's. Please, please, please stay away from this inspection company.
