Lucky Paws Dog & Puppy Training

We had our Great Dane puppy trained by Ali as participants in the six week kindergarten class…read more We were very happy with the lessons given in class, and enjoyed having time to socialize our pup. This was my first puppy class experience but my husband's fourth (all different dogs), and the lessons and practices were very clear and consistent with the positive reinforcement methods my husband has used and seen used over the years. The format was interesting in that different dogs were at different stages due to the open enrollment nature of the class, but ultimately I don't feel that impacted the quality of the course, or added anymore distraction then your typical puppy course. The lessons were still communicated clearly and practiced in class with the expectation that the real training occurs out of the class through daily practice and routine. Overall once again we were very happy with the course and have already talked about if post-kindergarten training is needed, or even at-home 1-on-1 lessons we will be contacting Ali.

This is the biggest joke of training I've ever experienced. First of all they sent Heidi to my…read morehouse. When asked what level of training she had her response was that her friend and boss Heather trained her. But because she talked a good talk I decided to give it a try. After all I was already in for over $100 for her to come and visit. My dog has serious separation anxiety and so Heidi said that she could help. A JOKE. She was playing kennel games with her. My dog has no issues with being in her kennel. But I went along with her suggestions. The last session I had with Heidi had me hiding food/treats around my house. My dog is a resource guarding kind of dog. She doesn't like it when my cat even comes near her dish This caused huge issue between the cat and the dog. Hiding treats around the house had my dog agitated with the cat coming anywhere near where treats had been hidden. Worse came to worse! These women have also been instrumental in taking my dog to a rescue that refuses to return my dog to me. Long story short....STAY AWAY AND STEER CLEAR OF THIS PLACE! Bad News and a total waste of money at the very least. I'm still fighting to get my ESA returned to me.

I didn't want to write this review but after a few weeks, I felt it important to warn other people…read morebefore they spend $1,500. They don't do clicker training (as is touted on their website). The bootcamp consists of a lot of time in a crate. Our trainer was incredibly kind but often she was visibly stressed out and exhausted. Despite doing our assigned homework, our dog really never connected with the training. Each week is supposed to teach a new set of skills, before "dog walking week" even started, our trainer suggested we use a prong collar. I know many people use negative reinforcement in training, and that is their choice, but the whole reason we chose The Canine Coach is that their website repeatedly states they only use positive reinforcement. At the end of the 4 weeks, our dog hadn't really mastered any of the "12 reliable behaviors" that he didn't already know. Lastly, the additional in-home training was absolutely beyond unprofessional. The trainer showed up and was--for lack of better description--uninvested. When we asked for suggestions regarding our dog getting excited about squirrels during walks, his first and only suggestions were to use a prong collar or shock collar. He didn't ask what we had tried or anything, he just immediately went for "shock collar" because that's what he uses for his dog. Again, I understand that some people choose to use a shock collar or prong collar, but we deliberately chose The Canine Coach because they allegedly only use positive reinforcement. The trainer then half-heartedly did some recall practice before checking his phone repeatedly and then cutting our session short by 20 minutes. We haven't booked our second in-home training session. tl;dr No clicker training. Repeated suggested use of negative reinforcement. Sessions cut short. Dog didn't learn anything new.
