I have been going here for 3 years and they seem to be great with my dog. I had one groomer that left after 2 years, who I loved and have missed. I started going to Beth and she seemed to be OK but I scheduled an appointment with her 3 months in advanced. When I went to my appointment, she wasn't in town and no one in the salon would help me. Even though I booked the appointment 3 months in advance, I never received any notification that Beth wouldn't be in town, which I find very irresponsible. Unfortunately for me, the people that work there were not helpful because they stated they are all independent contractors so there was nothing they could do. All I got was "please write down you name and number and Beth will call you when she gets back into town". I would not recommend this place as I don't believe you can count on your groomer to actually be there for your appointment. read more

My wife and I have a special needs dog. She is blind in one eye, and is very skittish. We took her to another place before and the staff scared her. I arrived a little bit early, and me the groomer, David. He was very nice and kind to our dog, and she went willingly with him for her grooming. After two hours I was called and she was done. When I arrived she was happy and playing with other dogs in the salon. I am not an expert on grooming, but she looked great, and David told me she did great. I have a 4lb yorkie. He is very small and he is one of those dogs who has lost a huge majority of his hair. So its hard to find groomers that know what they are doing and it's even harder to find one who knows how to groom a dog who is losing his hair...a groomer that knows how to blend the hair he does have with the parts where he has lost it :( I had one other groomer before I discovered Kelly. Kelly used to work at another doggie spa that was super close to my house. Kelly, being the talent that he is, I always thought deserved his own place. He opened his own doggie salon in Star, ID. When I lived in Scottsdale, AZ, I had a groomer by the name of Johan. He was Stevie Nicks' groomer too!!! I love to brag about that because I am a HUUUUUUGE Stevie FREAK! hahaha! Anyway, when I moved away from AZ and came to ID, I tried a few groomers..trying to find one who was as good as Johan or better. Kelly is that guy. He is PHENOMENAL with Frankie. He does his hair perfectly every time I take Frankie in. He knows how to perfectly blend the hair that Frankie does have with the hair he doesn't have, if that makes sense? Kelly is one of the kindest guys in think I've ever met. To watch him interact with Frankie is a very sweet thing to witness. He's great with every dog I see him interact with. If you live anywhere in the Boise area or outside Boise and want a FANTASTIC groomer and a wonderful person, check this place out and ask for Kelly. You will not be disappointed. We scheduled an appointment about six weeks ago to have our two dogs groomed prior to leaving for three weeks, only to get a text two hours prior to our scheduled time, indicating all appointments that day were canceled because the groomer's dog gave birth to new pups. We were told both McCala (sp) and her husband canceled their appointments For the day! Ever try to find availibilty with two days notice ... not happening. Not even an offer to reschedule. We have been taking our Yorkie to A Dog's Day Out for almost a year now and couldn't be happier with how they groom him. Every time he has come back just perfect! It was then for our Golden Retriever to get her first grooming session. She's just a little over a year old, seems to be afraid of everything, but is very social. From the moment I walked in with my pup, they were so good with her! She walked right up to the counter and we chatted about her grooming session. When we picked her up she was so beautiful! Brittany groomed our Golden perfectly. She smelled wonderful too! I would highly recommend A Dog's Day Out in Star for both a small dog as well as a larger dog. My dog and I had a terrible experience. I would never recommend this place again. Brought my dog in perfectly fine when I picked him up groomer said she got hair in his eye to keep an eye on it due to it watering so bad. Paid. $120 for his cut. Within 2 hours of being home I had to take him to vet. His eye was swollen red and watering. The vet said there was no hair in his eye but that his cornea was scratched cost me $149 and my poor dog was miserable. Clearly the groomer new something happened just not what she acknowledged. My dogs eye got poked but the did not admit it. Never take your dog here it could cost you more than you expect. read more

The owner, Kelly, was apologetic, but his employees were dismissive, disrespectful, and disinterested in retaining us as clients. His new location in Star is actually a 45 minute drive for us, as we are in SE Boise. I'm guessing we drive past 15-20 other dog groomers on the way to him. But, Kelly is worth the drive. Our golden (Samson) adores Kelly, is excited to see him and Samson looks fantastic every time. We brought in our 2 year old pure bred Havenese for a shampoo and brushing and Pat, the groomer told me she had time to trim him up if we wanted. I told her that would be great. She had an assistant with her (Darby) and both were so friendly and kind. When they called me less than 3 hours later I picked up my dog and I was amazed! He looked so awesome and he was so happy! They told me that the inside of his ears had never been cleaned or cut (and we had a previous groomer we counted on for this) and he had an outer ear infection! First groom was Kelly he did great. After that Kelly was too busy and passed us on to Derek. We tried to work with Derek several times as we have had our dogs groomed for years. We had to change our groomer so we wanted to try and go local. He did a choppy and terrible job especially in one of our dogs. (He always made a Batman symbol on her chest because of how he would cut her) She is an has been groomed elsewhere and never had the issues he had with her. I also have a dog that is 10 yrs old and had high anxiety but any other groomer has had no issues with him. The last time we had them in he told me he could not do pluck his ears because he didn't want him touching his face. No other groomer has ever told me that so made me concerned for him. Derek would not respond to our concerns so we cancelled further grooming and will sadly have to travel outside of Star for a groomer. However, the very best part is the atmosphere he provides for our four-legged friends!! Awful! I have rare breed dogs. I called and spoke extensively with someone to confirm they knew how to groom this breed. I specifically stated that I did not want someone pulling out a manual to learn how to cut my dog, and I was assured that would not be the case. When I picked my dogs up and was shocked that they looked nothing like their breed, the groomer actually yelled at me saying I gave bad instructions. Not true. I asked for ,other hair on the legs she shaved them almost completely. I said I liked a show length beard but that she could curve the corners, my dogs, beards are almost gone and on one she left one side two inches longer then the other, which is especially hideous. Sure enough she pulled out the manual she was using to guide her through my dogs cut. I pointed out that my dogs looked absolutely nothing like the breed standard in her manual and I was yelled at again. Truly awful experience. The haircuts will take months to grow out, but what is truly shocking is how RUDE the employee was. My 15 years old daughter was with me and was shocked by this woman's behavior. read more
