I moved here very recently and had to search for a vet. Having just moved here I had no one to offer a referral. My boy has chronic pancreatitis and was having a clinical episode. I chose River City Vet and Dr DoBroth was our vet, she is amazing. Took her time, asked the right questions'. She went over a plan and asked if I was good with it. Felt like I was heard. From the moment I walked in it was great. Very clean, staff were very courteous. I got in quickly even though they were busy. Her plan - our plan- is realistic not overboard. I expect a vet to be there when we desperately need help. Instead, River City Vet turned us away. During Blue's yearly checkup I mentioned that there had been some respiratory/sneezing issues for several months but this was of no concern to them. We were told he was healthy. He wasn't. I brought Blue in for a weight check 3-4 weeks after his checkup. He had lost nearly a pound in that time. He wouldn't eat. His behavior had changed. No one followed up on my concerns. I called River City Vet a few days after the weight check because Blue was lethargic and wouldn't eat or drink. We were told they didn't have time for us. I took Blue in to West Vet for IV fluids every day for 3 days. My husband was out of the country and made an emergency flight home from Japan while we struggled to keep Blue alive so he could say goodbye to his favorite human. Blue died in our arms on Easter Sunday, a few hours after my husband got home. He was only 6 years old. read more

Dr. Sparzo is an amazing vet and the staff at River City has always been really friendly and professional. I have a very anxious chihuahua mix and he recently had a behavior change, wasn't eating, and just seemed to be in some discomfort. After running some blood work and an evaluation, Dr. Sparzo believed it could be some sort of allergy. She recommended a low dose steroid to help with inflammation to knock out what could be bothering him. While it took about a day to kick in and work, he has bounced back to his normal self. I've always appreciated Dr. Sparzo's expertise and highly recommend her if anyone needs a quality vet. I truly believe she wouldn't recommend something for your pet if it were her own. She also did a follow up call a few days later to check on my dogs wellbeing. Amazing staff and give them a chance if you're new to the area or need quality care for your fur baby! read more

Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and trustworthy staff. We boarded our Rottweiler puppy for a few days when we came to Idaho to look at homes for sale at the recommendation of our real estate agent. Several years ago, after my mini poodle puppy passed away after being spayed there at River City (through no fault of the vet -- it was a gut twist which can happen to poodles after they are put on their backs for surgery), I discovered my pre-paid plan was not transferable to a new dog. I would not recommend this clinic, both money-wise and service-wise. While I loved my old vet at this clinic, I've since transferred to a new vet, who is by himself, but I get better service there than I ever did at River City with their multiple vets. The personnel turnover at the front desk alone is enough to cause worry, and when my dog was having gastrointestinal issues, they put me off until Monday, when one of the vets would be in (this was a Saturday). Apparently, only vet techs work on Saturday. The other vet I called told me to bring her right in. He examined her, gave her anti-nausea medicine, and had me monitor her eating and pooping for the next few days. She recovered just fine, thanks to his intervention. read more

I had an urgent situation with my Frenchie and he needed to be seen by a vet. I'm new to the area and called River City. They were able to squeeze me in first thing so he could be seen there was a concern with his back. They were great, they did an extensive exam on him and while the results were inconclusive as to the back they put him on strict crate rest prescribed meds and off we went. They did not charge us for the visit, only for the meds which was unexpected and appreciated. The River City team is awesome. Thank you to you all for your help! Best vet experience in 25 years! Our girl normally trembles when we enter the parking lot of a vet. On our first visit, she came away with a wagging tail. They're great at getting you an appt but not great at being on time. Every time it's a 15-30 min wait in the small room for the vet. This isn't great when you have dogs that are already nervous with being at the vet. The dogs hear the other dogs in the back crying and barking and adds to their stress. They're quick to get you in a small room but then leave you there for a long time. Each visit seems to get longer and longer waiting in the small room read more

Horrible experience here. This place BOTCHED my puppy's spay surgery. She got a massive infection and a high fever as a result. When I brought her back in, the doctor ran ultrasound tests but claimed that she "didn't know" what was wrong, despite sending us home with a slue of antibiotics. They then attempted to charge me an additional $750 for these tests which provided no diagnosis whatsoever. The fact is this business and its doctors WILL NOT OWN UP to their negligence. An employee from West Vet Hospital agrees with me that River City Vet in Meridian is BAD NEWS. Our sweet boy Luke our beloved golden retriever recently passed away after twelve years of a very full life. He grew up going to River City for his health care and was a regular at doggie day care. This was his favorite place on earth. The care and love received from these people was extraordinary. He was so comfortable with this place and its wonderful people that when he had to see Dr. Harsh for medical care, he was unafraid and loved him too with big lick to the face. The attached picture was hung in the lobby of River City of our sweet boy and you can see how happy he was playing with his friends. There is no better better place in town to take your animal for care or day care! When I think of the great memories we had with our dog, this place is part of those very fond memories. I took them to River City veterinary hospital for an initial meet and greet examination. We were taken in right on time and the veterinary technician, Julie, handled my two excited labs so well. At times it was like herding cats, and she knew exactly how to deal with it, as did the veterinarian, Jennifer Puckett. They did an extremely thorough exam and went over in detail with me her recommendations. There was no pressure, just great information. The cost was about what I expected for such a comprehensive exam, and I am very pleased to have found a new vet. I recommend them very highly. read more

I cannot say enough about the kindness of this team. I moved here recently and took my elderly cat, Ellie , to see Dr. Fitzpatrick. We only saw her a few times before I had to let go of our girl due to illness. We had Gentle Goodbyes come to our home to provide this dignified service. A week after, and still very sad from our loss of Ellie, I received a card from River City Vet and a beautiful note from Dr. Fitzpatrick. Not just a signature, but she wrote us a personal note. This used to be where my cats would go. The staff is friendly but they aren't straight forward with fees. I had to get my cat a rabie shot...when I called and talked to one of the girls - I asked what the cost of the visit would be. I was told $35. But they billed me $126. I told the front desk girl what I was told previously she stated that the extra was an exam fee. She explained that by State Law an exam has to be done. We're new to the area, and have two Australian Shepherds, both adults and both with issues. The older one has severe anxiety, and doesn't trust anyone. The other one is a rescue, who is deaf and visually impaired. Everyone at River City Vet was so nice, warm and welcoming. Each staff member not only greeted me, but the dogs as well. Both the vet tech and Dr Puckett took the time to sit on the floor with our dogs, throughout the entire exam. And I have to say, their initial exam was by far the most thorough exam any of my pets have ever had. There were fresh water bowls and treats in various areas of the office, even coffee and water for us pet parents. Both dogs did so well, they ended staying for a few hours at the doggie daycare...which they loved! Highly recommend bringing your fur-kids. read more

I have a gentle 7 year old Lab as well as a knucklehead 10 month old Lab. The techs and vets treat them so well. The older one had some dental work and they were so lovely to her. The follow up phone calls were very helpful. The reception staff are always friendly & helpful. I've also used the grooming services as well as the boarding. Pups always come home smelling pretty & silky smooth after a bath & brush. They come home from staying for the weekend happy, worn out, and healthy. This is an amazing hospital ! Brody our Maltese got a bee sting in his paw,as soon as we walked in the staff rushed him in ! I filled out the paperwork while they attended to Brody. It was 9pm but they did not hesitate to help him. Dr, Sparzo has a sweet touch so Brody was not afraid at all. THANK YOU DR. SPARZO & YOUR WONDERFUL STAFF ! I took our cat in for his vaccines. This was our first visit as we had just moved to the area. The visit went as expected. The next day, I received a phone call asking how my cat was. I stated that he appeared sore, but I expected that to resolve. Shortly after that, the vet called himself to check on our cat. He prescribed some Metacam for the cat. When I went to pick up the one dose, there was no charge! I so appreciated everyone's care and concern for my pet. I am very happy with River City Vet. read more

We took our dogs there they both had allergies and ear infection like things going on from the weather change from moving , we have spent 10,000 already to get the one dog diagnosed with life long skin allergies , with that being said we told them that they made us get an appointment just to tell us the same thing which I mean I understood since it was first time seeing them . But now she needs more of the skin medication and they will not give it to me her owner because she needs to be "seen " "again " meaning we need to charge you for an appointment because we don't make money on her meds ! So we need to come tell you the same thing you have paid10,000 dollars for just to get our pockets deeper! The staff all of them are not knowledgeable they always have to find out and call back . Or they loose your info ! Not a reputable vet AT ALL THEY DO not care for the health of the animals they are just another vet taking money from people who love their animals and the veterinary clinic knows that and will charge you just as if it were a human patient ! I contacted these guys to do my dogs' nails after having them "groomed" at another vet the previous week. The groomer didn't do my dogs' paws or nails and these guys are close to me so I called them. They were able to get me in the same day and suggested I get one of my dogs' nails done every two weeks until the quicks were grown backwards a bit. They were quick and efficient. When I went in, the atmosphere was frazzled, like everyone was just slightly overworked. Maybe they were overbooked. I didn't get warm fuzzies. Don't get me wrong, they weren't unfriendly at all. They just weren't as welcoming as the other vet I'd gone to. Apparently they needed my dogs' vaccination records for baths (?!) Since we just moved here from out of state, we didn't have everything unpacked yet and our lame vet from back home didn't have us in their system. So we had to skip the baths. Bummer. They were quick and efficient and got us in and out fast. From the time we checked in to the time we were all done, it was about 10 minutes - not too shabby considering it was 2 dogs. One star off for pricing. It was $38 plus tip for both dog nail trims. I later found out there is a place in Eagle that will do it for $10. $38 is ridiculously steep for a nail trim. I spend a lot of money on my dogs and I don't mind doing so at all but I don't lose sight of what's reasonable - and this price wasn't really reasonable. Despite the good points here, I won't be coming back because of the pricing. Some people are fine with it, but I just don't see how they can justify that, especially considering grooming isn't their primary function or money maker. There are people who accept it and that's totally cool! I just don't happen to be one of them. read more

I was in the urgent care and felt that the room I was in was not very clean. Every tool, device, and item that was used on my pet was used without gloves and sat on the surface of the counter which was covered in animal hair that was not my pets. I could hear the staff chatting obnoxiously behind the doors and paid an outrageous price for simple services. I know this is not a human medical facility, and with the price tag that your charging people you'd think you could Clorox wipe the counters and store medical tools in a sanitary way. The staff was a bit disorganized and there were several different people involved in our process. Having less hands on deck a more one on one contact would be preferable especially in situations where the outcome is poor for your pet. I am greatful for the urgent care hours but definitely plan to establish care for my pet elsewhere. read more

I've only been to one other veterinarian in the area, this was my second place I have taken my dog to. My dog didn't really know it was the vet so he wasn't on high alert which was really nice, the staff was really nice and friendly. I think the best part of the trip was meeting Dr. Harsch! He really looked at my dog and did a full through examination unlike the other place i had been to. He really heard what I was asking and gave me loads of information and for that I am very grateful!
