We've been taking our dog Cleo to A Dog's Day Out for over a year and have been incredibly happy with her time there. Cleo is an energetic shepherd who is excited every time we pull up to ADDO, and she comes home clearly happy from the energy of the location throughout the day. The staff is friendly and attentive, knowing us and Cleo by name and making sure we know how her day went there. They clearly take health seriously and make sure to remind us of upcoming shots, and co distantly have space to board her when we travel for extended periods. We recommend ADDO to any dog owner in the Annandale/falls church/vienna/fairfax area. They have provided an excellent experience for us and Cleo. read more

Not only are they negligent, they have different stories depending on who is spoken to. This is a joke! Think twice before boarding at ADDO Vienna. To Mr. Richardson, as we discussed today you're employee told you two different stories. To your manager she reported "funny breathing" Saturday which ADDO neglected to call and manager told us he will retrain staff and to you she miraculously did not see anything. Sunday when picked up she was physically excited however her breathing was not how it should be. Had we waited 1 more day or couple hours to pick up our dog she may not have even made it to a vet. We've been boarding our dogs here for two years now and they are great people who truly love and understand dogs. My dogs are always excited to go, they know when they see that building where they are going and dash up to the door. The ADDO staff is professional and caring and I trust them with my dogs - I've left my dogs there for more than two months before! That's how much I trust these guys with my fur babies. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Long story short: my dog had to leave the kennel because she got kennel cough while at daycare there before full boarding. Owner was inflexible and unresponsive on a refund (which their documentation, which I signed, allows for). He gave me a credit to stay again, which I don't want. Longer story: I was told it's their policy to have the dog do daycare for three days prior to any full board. It doesn't say that anywhere on their site or in documentation, but I did it as I had no other choice due to it being a holiday. 24 hours into our full boarding, our dog starts coughing. No exposure to other dogs or a kennel for months before this. Fully understand that the dog can't stay there and needs a vet. I'm +200 miles away, but find someone to pick up our dog and bring her to the vet. We cancel our holiday plans and drive back. The dog is borderline with pneumonia per vet, so we're glad we came home. On the paperwork I signed for the kennel, a refund can be given for a charge if the stay is cut short. Totally understand this and would have complied. I texted the owner and asked for a refund on the unused portion of the stay. He said their policy isn't to give refunds - he said it's stated on his site and in the doc I signed - and he gave me a credit instead ($285). I asked for him to show me exactly where and he can't produce it. You can't have a stated policy where customers money is involved. Given the conditions there, and that they clearly don't care about pet safety, I'm never going back. I had to call AMEX to fight the charge. Now the $285 is frozen in his account until this gets resolved. I would have left a good review and may have even gone back if the owner wasn't so $$$ focused and was actually customer and dog focused. read more

We have used ADDO for more than 10 years. The first time was for our beloved boxer Chaos, who went to ADDO five days a week for almost 10 years. It was peace of mind knowing that she was well taken care of daily, it was a second home for her when my husband and I worked long hours downtown. Now, with a new boxer pup, we've chosen to go back to ADDO, even when I worked much closer to another dog daycare. ADDO in Vienna was much bigger in comparison to this other facility - the space for dogs to run and not be in tight quarters is important. Plus, the staff are always professional. Additionally, I know that Chaz and team know how to handle different dog personalities, and our new pup can be quite a lot so knowing that they have the staff and experience to help manage her is comforting. We did look at two other facilities but in the end chose to go back to ADDO - I rely on their experience, the cleanliness of the facility, the staff and honestly, they just love what they do and it shows. I absolutely love bringing my dog here. He gets so excited to go to camp every day- when we are about 3 minutes away in the morning he has a burst of energy knowing he is going to his favorite place! He is greeted with a smile and hug every morning and is so excited to go play with the pack. The owner is beyond excellent with the dogs, as well. At first I wished there were cameras inside, but I actually realized I trust ADDO so much that I don't even feel the need to watch my dog all day. If you are looking for a trustworthy, reliable place to care for your dog while you are working, running errands, or just need a break, ADDO is the place. It's affordable and convenient, and you can tell they make an effort rather than treat it like just another "job." They love the dogs and it me feel comfortable enough to leave my precious pup in there 5 times a week! Don't sleep on this place. read more

I want to clarify this review by stating first that this rating is for GROOMING ONLY. John is an awesome employee here and I wish I could give him five stars separately. The bond I can tell he has with my dog is so sweet, and has her so excited every time I bring her. That being said, I really hope they get their grooming situation under control. I loved having a place to bring my dog that is so close and that I can drop her off to get groomed and she can stay and play all day, but I think they changed groomers a year or two ago and the current one is so unreliable and does not groom well. My dog's hair is always uneven. I'm usually not that caught up on aesthetics so I could deal with that, but it's the unreliability that's getting to me. So many times I've picked up my dog on days when she was supposed to be groomed and she wasn't ("the groomer didn't come in") and yesterday I received a call that she's not going to be in on the day I scheduled my dog to get groomed next week. Again, I love John and the daycare aspect of this place, and I hate to stop bringing my dog here, but I'd rather find another place that can take care of both again. I hope they will announce when/if they get a new groomer. read more

Very Clean!!!! First time boarding my two little ones, and I was happy with the care. Great first impression, great staff and very helpful explaining the packages. They provide daily play dates at great prices. I enjoyed more the fact that the dogs are separated by size. I like the introduction they provide to new arrivals. We are very disappointed in ADDO and cannot recommend this business to anyone. The facilities are not bad, although webcams would be nice. Having the dogs pee on the concrete of the warehouse isn't a big doo. Certainly, all of the non-owner's family staff is excellent. The problem is the owner. He is exceedingly rude, unprofessional and overly sensitive. We had been taking out mixed-breed dog to ADDO two or three times a week for months and had received daily compliments from the staff. No sooner than we lay down serious cash for monthly visits, the owner decides that our dog is potentially aggressive and, in his lay opinion, the dog should be put down! Any particular incident, we asked? No. No fighting, no biting, nothing. The owner just didn't like the dog. We found out later that he does not like active dogs and has a reputation for banning dogs he doesn't like. If we had known what the owner was like, we never would have taken our dog to this place. THERE ARE NO Refunds. That's right. You won't find this on your contract, but it's true. At the bottom of the pricing page on the website you will find "There are no refunds." After he threw out our dog for being "overactive" he claimed that the policy was refunds but that in this case he would and it would take 48 hours. That was weeks ago. We are now proceeding with legal action. Pet owners BEWARE! read more

I brought my 4 year old (happy) golden retriever dog in to ADDO for a three night stay while I was on the road. He had spent a couple of hours there the previous weekend, just to get used to the atmosphere, but obviously being there overnight was very different. I told the handlers that sometimes he can get picky about food so they may have to sit with him to make him eat. They acknowledged this and I felt okay leaving him there. When I picked him up after day three, the same handler came out and told me that he hadn't eaten for three days. The dog also came out with sores all over his legs (2 running, pussy sores on each leg at elbow from an allergic reaction to the chemicals they must use to clean the floors after dogs use them as the bathroom.) The handler couldn't tell me what had happened to my dog, but needless to say, the fact that they didn't call me after he hadn't eaten after 1 day was bad enough, but not hearing from them at all is/was not acceptable. We've been taking our two large dogs here since early 2008. During that time, they have not only stayed for day care, but they have also overnighted multiple times after problems with another boarding facility. Here's what I love about ADDO; the staff may not remember my name, they don't remember my husband's name, but when my dogs go bursting through the door it's like Norm at "Cheers". During the snowpocalypse of 2010 our first priority was not battening down the hatches, but rather getting the "kids" over to ADDO where we knew that not only would we not have to deal with getting them outside in the freezing weather, not only would we not have two over excited under exercised dogs, but we would have peace of mind knowing that they were well taken care of and that they had the freedom to run around in a temperature controlled facility with other dogs. We appreciate the fact that they are served a high quality dog food, and they currently offer discounted food in large quantities (we haven't taken advantage of it yet, but when this bag runs out, we're getting it from our 'regular' stop.) The bottom line here is that the dogs are thrilled to go, we have one who tries to open the gate himself and get in as quickly as possible, and when they come home, they are not only happy, but tired. And that, makes me happy. read more

We had our two puppies (8 month old husky and 5 month old westie) boarded here for 2.5 weeks while we were on vacation. John took care of our puppies. We missed our puppies and were very happy to see the photos and videos John sent us. Husky and westie played in two different play areas because of their size difference, but they reunited in the evening after daycare is over and played together. When we picked them up upon our return, both puppies were super tired from playing all day everyday and looked happy. I will board them here again when we travel next time. read more

My 8 months old puppy loves this place. He plays so much that when he comes home he is exhausted. The staff is very friendly and Russ loves them. It's definitely our place to go when we need a place to send our dog. It's indoor daycare but the dogs have a lot of space to run and go crazy. If I could say one bad side of our experience it would be that our puppy sometimes comes home all scratched. But of course is not because of the place or staff but because we know Russ plays hard and goes wild when he sees another puppy who also likes to play. We would definitely recommend ADDO. read more

I've been taking Bailey (my pug) here for several years now. I was looking for a nice, no-caged doggy day care place where I could take her for a bath, clean her anal glands, and boarding. They are very clean, the staff is very friendly and most of all animal lovers. The prices for a spa day (bath, glands, nails, ears) including boarding for the day varies per dog size, for Bailey it is $55 as a bundle which is what I usually get for her. She weighs 28 lbs. I have left her overnight for 4 days while vacationing, and she is well taken care of. She is happy there, and I trust the staff. She is active, and gets along with all dogs so she plays in the medium and small dog areas. The Vienna location is a warehouse size area, very spacious with high ceilings. Very nice and clean open areas. The dogs do pee and poop inside on rubber flooring, but the staff is quick to respond and clean. Most importantly, she is happy while she is there and comes home smelling nice and clean. She is worn out when she comes home from playing and does enjoy her quiet time. read more

I'm continually content with the service I get from here. The staff is amazing and super friendly and my dog is always wagging her nub of a tail after we leave. Would be awesome if they walked dogs to let them out rather than pooches relieving themselves right in the middle of the floor. They do clean up immediately but still, kinda gross. read more

I have been taking my Pitbull mix, Bijou, to ADDO on and off for about a year now. She passed evaluation the first time but then was subsequently attacked at a dog park. (Only time I think i would hurt a dog is if they're hurting my dog). After that she was skittish and was defensive/aggressive towards dogs approaching her from behind. I did NOT pay another eval fee and she did not pass when the owner evaluated her. Some time later and plenty of socializing with other dogs... she was evaled again and she passed! What do I conclude? Different people (employee vs owner) evaluate a dog differently. In my opinion those who have more experience working with the pack on a daily basis are more knowledgable as to how to handle a newcomer. John is a manager there and has always been upfront and clear about how Bijou has been doing. He is great to work with! He ASSURED me that I will get a refund on the balance of packages if something were to happen due to what seems like a story from the past of not refunding someone the balance (illegal and they lost that legal battle). Nothing will hold up in court when you're the evaluator and the policer of the same situation. Anyways, the dogs pee and poo on the rubber floor. Bijou is house trained and this does not affect her at home. I think at the end of the day, the staff is very aware of their surroundings. I mentioned an odor and the next morning the waiting room smells better. Lastly, Bijou does not smell when she leaves. She doesn't smell period. If your dog smells afterwards, its likely because your dog naturally will smell. read more

Since we settled into our new house in August and Natasha needed a space to burn off steam (she's a 4-year-old Husky who had previously gone to doggie day care weekly in Milwaukee), we asked for recommendations from our new neighbors. The people who live behind us have a sister-in-law with a 3-year-old lab who strongly recommended this place. It's just down the street and around the corner so quite convenient and priced affordably. In contrast to the Milwaukee spot, though, there is no outdoor romping, and the spaces set aside for the dogs mean that Natasha couldn't run/zoom the way she'd been used to. Also, with everything indoors, the smell of dogs, excreta, and disinfectant is very strong when you walk in. The carers, though, are hugs Husky fans, so Natasha always came home happy, if not as tired as I would have liked. ;) read more

5 stars is not enough for ADDO!! I'm sure my Rottie, Bentley, would agree. If he had his way he would go everyday. Every morning he attempts to bust through the door when my husband leaves for work to wait by the car door in hopes of being let off at ADDO. Seriously! I'm a stay at home mom but still take Bentley for daycare at least 2x a week. He comes home completely worn out and happy!!! Actually he doesn't want to leave when I pick him up...he sees me and runs back to the play area. I'm always "joking" with the staff that he likes them better than his own family...truth is, I'm serious. No wonder since they spoil him rotten! I've never written a review before but ADDO is too good not to share. I'm so thankful my friend recommended them to me. The staff is amazing!! Not only are they super excited to see Bentley they always take the time to say a nice hello to my two daughters. Their prices are fantastic. 3 hours for only $!5!! $22 for up to 6 hours!! The facility is very clean!! I only have one dog and it's hard to keep the house clean and fresh. They can have 100 dogs and you would never know...except for the happy barking :) When it's too hot and humid to play outside ADDO will be perfect for your dog...and you! Check them out. read more

While we have not used the daycare, we have been here twice to attend ADDO-sponsored beagle meetups. ADDO let our beagles use play areas free of charge. My seven month old puppy had a blast. It is a huge open space and there are designated areas for small, medium, and large dogs. There is ample space to run around and my little guy loves to run and wrestle. The staff seemed organized, attentive, and nice. We also met the owner and he seemed like a sweetheart. (I think ADDO is owned by a father son team). The dogs in the daycare section seemed calm and I didn't notice any problematic dogs - I take this as a positive indication about their screening procedures. While this seemed like a nice facility, I probably won't take my beagle there because 1) it is a bit far from my house, and 2) the dogs are not taken out for walks. If they have an accident, it is cleaned up immediately by staff. I think that #2 is standard practice among daycares but I just want my puppy to be 110% potty trained before I'd drop him off for a whole day. read more

This review is regarding GROOMING services only - he does not attend daycare. We take our dog here for grooming - because of our dog's health issues, we always ask that the staff keep him separate from the other dogs - whenever I call to make an appointment the staff always remembers him and remembers to keep him apart. I really appreciate that. The grooming services are not the best that we've ever received, but they're ok for the price, and our dog isn't afraid or reluctant to go with the staff when we drop him off, which speaks volumes. The last time we took our dog in for grooming, we were surprised to not hear back from the groomer's regarding a pick up time for more than 3 hours. That seemed long to us. We tried to call, but our call immediately went to voicemail. We headed down to check in on our dog, and the staff told us that he had been ready for pick up for two hours, and that the reason that we hadn't received a call was because someone had run into their phone lines behind the building last week. It seems to me that if you know you have a communication issue, you should predetermine an alternate way to communicate - email or something. I was very displeased that our dog, who has known health issues, was sitting in a kennel for hours after being groomed, probably cold. We'll still visit this location, and I don't feel that the above-articulated scenario warrants docking more than a star from our review (this would be a four star review). I'll continue to update as we continue to use this business. We've utilized their grooming services at least 5 times. read more

Our dog has been attending ADDO since January of 2009. We were in need of care last minute (we were going to set up a dog walker, but didn't feel comfortable with a stranger coming into our home and charging $17 for a 30 minute walk). ADDO happened to be right around the corner. Yes they charge $15 for the evaluation (they have to make sure your dog isn't aggressive and will mesh well with all the other dogs), but dog walkers charge that much as well for the initial consult. I don't see the big deal... Their staff have been wonderful from day one! Our dog (a papillon) LOVES attending daycare. She runs to all the staff to say her hellos, then eagerly awaits entering the little dog area. That's one part I love, they have 3 dog areas. All areas have large play toys, a few crates if a dog needs a nap or timeout, and a place with plants and what not to mimic the outside for the "potty" area. In the year and a half we've been attending I have never smelled a strong odor from the building, other than the scent of their air freshener. The staff have always been great, they clearly love each dogs that stays with them, and I wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend for daycare and boarding. We've since relocated to near Dulles Airport, and after trying a dog walker (and having them not show up), we've decided to simply drive the extra 10 miles to take her to ADDO, as we know they take excellent care of her, and we don't have to worry. They've also stayed open past 7pm one occasion for us when metro was severely delayed. Our dog also boards with them, and it's beyond wonderful to know that while we're on vacation, she too is having the time of her life! Getting her back in the condition we dropped her off is something we will never take for granted, after a horrible boarding situation. I highly recommend A Dogs Day Out for daycare and boarding for your dog! I'd give them 10 stars if I could. read more

I have a nine month old black lab named Carly. Carly has been a periodic client since she was 4 months old. I am retired so more frequent visits are not needed, however I love the flexibility ADDO offers it's clients. I have left Carly for 3 and 6 hours, as well as all day. When we pull into the parking lot Carly goes crazy with excitement and I love it when the friendly staff take her immediately to greet the other dogs. She never looks back to even say goodbye. Being able to have a worry free day knowing Carly is being well cared for is extra special. read more

I have been taking my dog here for I think almost 5 years and am very happy with the service I receive. Everyone there loves on my dog and she bounds right over to see them when I drop her off. When she comes home, she is happy and so exhausted from playing!! Occasionally, the staff shows me pictures they have taken with their own phones of my dog doing something particularly cute or funny, or playing with another dog. She only goes once every 2 weeks (it is expensive!), and they still know her and love on her. Very happy that we found this place and recommend it to others. read more

OMG! I love this place! But what is more important - My DOG absolutely loves this place! As I park my dog is ready to tear down my car door and knock me to the side because he can't wait to go and be with his dog care family! He bolts to the front door and can't wait until the staff greats him and open the gate! The staff really cares and they help your dog with the adjustment... When I pick up my high energy 1 year old - he is all tired out from his dog friends and attentioned-out... My boyfriend and I moved to a new place a couple months ago with our 2 year old lab mix, Cooper. He used to go to a daycare at our old house pretty regularly to get some energy out and socialize - He's great with dogs and people. ADDO stuck out because of the location, hours, and pricing. He did his meet and greet and did great. I loved the ability to do the 3 hour block and did it on a few Saturday's. I got feedback a couple times about how well he was doing. One Saturday when my boyfriend was picking him up one of the young employees there told him that Cooper was not allowed back. When asked why, he said - "He knocked over the mop bucket. And we looked at the video tape and he did it deliberately." So.. because our dog "deliberately" knocked over an unattended mop bucket in the playroom and it "took a long time to clean up" he is now not allowed back, EVER. We emailed the manager, John, and he called and agreed with the decision because "other dogs got wet" and it's not something they want to risk happening again in the future. The way I interpret that is, it's easier to keep the mop bucket they use to clean up pee and poop in the room and kick a dog out (who clearly wasn't being supervised), instead of taking it out of the playroom after using it. It's absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable in my opinion. So to recap - If your dog does dog things - like in our case Cooper apparently had an evil plan to intentionally knock over a bucket of water - this is not the place to take them for daycare because they may get kicked out in a snap. To my understanding dogs get kicked out of these establishments for being aggressive and having serious behavioral issues. I guess ADDO has different policies... read more

Love this place. The staff is great. My puppy (now 2) spent every day with these dog lovers when I worked in Tyson's. Now, I work from home. Recently left her (first time in months) and the staff remembered her, were so excited to see her. She clearly loves them. Didn't want to leave. The staff is flexible, loving toward the dogs and just as friendly as can be. We use ADDO for grooming, occasional daycare now and boarding. Our baby comes home as happy as can be. My Teddy loves coming here. When we're about a mile away he can tell we're getting close and I have to roll up the windows so he doesn't jump out. He has almost started to learn the words "doggy daycare." And I love how when I get him home he's tuckered out - which is a very tough task for a large, active puppy. I love the attention and care that the manager Matt always shows. From the first time I called to get info and when we see him in the morning at drop off. It's so nice that he always greets Teddy with an enthusiastic "Teddddy Walker!!!" I am only knocking it down 1-star because the place just smells awful. I get a lot of dogs indoor makes for a hard odor issue, but the cleaning products they use don't help and only add to this very chemical and off-putting odor. I wish I could afford to bring my dog her more frequently, but even with the packages it's expensive. It'd be cool if in addition to pack of passes to purchase they'd also offer automatic monthly packages that are automatically deducted from your bank account using how many times you'd come a week. If you don't come you'd still be charged. Perhaps that would be a way to lower the cost a bit since they could count on people not showing up as many times as their plan has. If that makes sense? read more

Definitely smaller and dirtier than the picture presents. While I waited I noticed that there was no staff member in the small dog area and the dog slept bored and stressed. I started doubting my decision already. My dog is wary of other dogs but warms up within a few minutes. After paying my $15 evaluation fee they took my 22 pound dog into the medium sized room where he was greeted by about ten forty pound dogs. He gets overwhelmed and snapped at them. After one minute of standing there with him on a leash letting the other dogs know he didn't like that, he failed the evaluation. I understand having to be cautious with dogs, but I had even told him he wouldn't like that. He just spent a MONTH at a kennel over the summer and did fine. He went to day every Friday a year ago and did FINE! These were not the "trained professional" staff they tout on the website. They obviously have no formal dog training. I wish I could find a job where I get paid $15 a minute. I left, frustrated after they wouldn't let him try the small dog room (a 20 pound cutoff where he had just told me they sometimes put dogs slightly bigger and vice versa) and went to the dog park. He didn't like it there either when all the dogs rushed the gate. But guess what? Three minutes later and he is trotting around with the other dogs. A trained staff would know better how to handle it. I'm actually glad that he failed so I can take him to a place that has appropriately trained staff. read more

I moved to Vienna in February and was excited to see a doggie daycare basically right across the street from my new place. My dog had been attending daycare 3x/week in Arlington so I thought this would be good for him. Also, a friend recommended the place saying he had used it several times a few years ago. First issue: I had to pay just to have him evaluated. What this means is you go there, meet the staff, the staff takes your dog into the area of similar-sized dogs to see how they get along, and they say "yay" or "nay." I think it's a great idea to have an evaluation before a dog is accepted into a daycare, but I thought it was in poor taste to make you pay for it! They all claimed to really love dogs, etc but in my opinion, if you really loved what you were doing then I don't understand the charge just to meet your dog. It probably took 5 mins of each individual's time and you can only do the evals at certain times during certain days of the week, so I don't think it's a cost reason... Second issue: They just let your dogs go to the bathroom all over the place. Two people stand inside each dog area and one is simply there to mop up messes. The issue for me is that my dog will NOT go to the bathroom inside anywhere unless he is sick and can't hold it. One of the reasons I want him in daycare is so he gets to go out during the day for potty breaks - they just expect him to pee on some high end mats there! The place smelled horrible even with the big bay doors open. Third issue: I used the place to have him groomed (they also offer "professional grooming services"). OMG never again. First, I had 3 different price quotes regarding the "free and discounted hours of daycare" I would get with the grooming. I ended up paying the highest cost and when I called back to ask about it, was only offered a credit for next time. Since I don't plan on ever going back, it's worthless to me. Anyways, my issues with the grooming are: 1. They did not ask me to sign any sort of release info, including a release to shave matted hair if necessary. 1a. They shaved my dog in areas apparently due to mats - I freely admit he had some tangled up hair and probably did need to have it cut out, but again - no one asked me. 1b. Either they used a dull blade or the blade got too hot - for some reason unknown to me, they cut the hair on my dog's nut sac (he's neutered, but the skin flap is still there) so close to the skin that he was bleeding and raw. The same issue happened to his ears. I had to apply Rx strength antibiotic to all of these areas for a few days. It was painful for my dog to simply walk. I felt so awful for him. 2. They told me they would call when he was ready. I never got a call - I just picked him up when I had planned to at the end of the day on my way home from work. Don't tell me something you are going to do related to a service if you're not going to do it. The only positive thing I have to say about this place was that it seemed like the workers really did love animals. But the conditions of the place and my experience with the "professional groomer" (who is also one of the owners) really made me turn away from here. Don't waste your time or money!! read more

Over the last few years, every time we have taken my dog to a cage-free boarding kennel or even the dog park, she has been well-behaved. Sometimes she will get a little over-excited, but after a few minutes she calms down and has a great time interacting with other dogs. My dog has NEVER had an issue with a kennel owner, until today. I brought my dog in for the $15 "evaluation". One of the handlers took her around the corner, out of my view to conduct this "evaluation" while another associate went over pricing with me in the office. My dog was out of sight only between 7 and 10 minutes when the associate who was with me got a call from the owner. She excused herself to run out of the office to check on my dog. About five minutes later, she came back with my dog and the first thing she said was, "Your dog actually failed." When I asked why, she said: " Sometimes when a very hyperactive dog comes in, it throws off the balance of the pack. We would have to keep her in time-out and that's not what you're paying for. The owner was upstairs watching and things were getting out of control". Well, she was right. I was not willing to pay for my dog to sit in a large crate, I was paying for my dog to INTERACT with other dogs. Last I checked, free-range playtime was a GOOD thing for hyperactive dogs, because not only does it help with socialization but the play also curbs destructive behavior at home. How can they determine that my dog was "unfit" by only 7 minutes of interaction? It also seems to me that if the "pack dynamic" is thrown off by a new dog, that should be an issue that the owners should immediately address with their established way of doing things. Its funny that every review for dog services is usually either 1 star or 5 stars and nothing in between. People take their dogs so seriously and I am one of them. My dog is my child and I'm a very protective father. That being so, I always worry about Kevin (my boston mix) when I'm not home with him. ADDO does a great job of putting my mind at ease. Everyone there knows his name, he is always excited to go, and he usually comes home tired enough I can get some work around the house done. Anyone who works with unpredictable things (people, dogs, children) know that accidents can happen and I think a lot of these poor reviews have something to do with the unexpected happening. It is up to a business to make sure when bad things happen, they handle and always err on the side of grace. We however have never had any issues with Kevin coming home with any bites or smelling. YES the places doesn't smell like a perfume store but its full of dogs, get over it. We boarded and spend the first night away from our dog last month and were happy to have the night away. I trust the staff and like that there is someone there 24 hours a day. Dogtopia which is slightly more expensive does not have staff overnight which is why I would hesitate to leave Kevin there. Insanely overpriced! I dropped by this place looking for boarding for my two dogs. I was greeted by a 20 something who had no clue about his job and zero people skills. I had to pretty much coach him through his job and intro to this overpriced warehouse. They wanted $88 for two dogs per day then on top of that wanted to charge a day care rate on the last day even if I picked them when they opened. I take my dog here every Friday for play time with his doggy friends. He absolutely loves this place and gets so excited when we pull into the parking lot that he starts panting and running in circles in the car. The staff is very friendly and they always remember my dog's name. It's a little thing but it's nice to show up and have someone say "Hi Fin!" and then remember that 10 hours later when I come to pick him up. I will board Fin here when we go out of town. He's never had trouble here. In the past, we've stayed at Petsmart Pets Hotel in Alexandria and he sometimes came home with stomach upset from stress. We haven't experienced that here (knock on wood). Deducting one star from the following: 1) There's no full time groomer on staff. When we were going somewhere bigger/more commercial (PetSmart) I could say "I'm picking him up at 6 can you bathe him at 5:30?" and it would happen. Granted, that's really lazy of me since my dog is 7 lbs and bathing him takes exactly 10 minutes at home. They do have a groomer, it's just not as convenient. 2) If you're boarding and aren't home in time to pick up before they close in the evening, pick up is a bit of a hassle. For example, sometimes when I travel for work I end up on a flight back from the west coast that gets in at 1 a.m. (gross). If I pick the dog up at 7:00 a.m., right when they open, I still have to pay a partial day daycare fee and it straight up makes me furious every single time. It's only $15 but the reasoning is what makes me nuts - someone has to let the dogs out to go to the bathroom before ADDO opens. Why isn't that included in the boarding fee? If daycare isn't open then why isn't that a part of the overnight fee...obviously the dogs need to use the bathroom, this isn't some special thing that they're doing for me. They always encourage me to just leave him for the whole day but sometimes, if I have an event, I'll have to get him in the morning. Again, the care is wonderful but hitting me with the extra $15 on top of the fairly high price just feels rude to me. read more
