I was skeptical at first because of the iffy reviews but I'm glad I checked it out for myself. I brought in some shoes that I bought second hand to see what could be done with them. I appreciate Nathaniel. He tells it like it is and does a wonderful job. He's not a wish maker with a magic wand like some people expect from cobblers. I called with a urgent need to fix a pair of shoes that I messed up trying to polish myself. I spoke to Nathaniel and he was able to get me in right away. I showed up and he was very respectful and explained to me what I did wrong and the best option for fixing it. The price he quoted was very reasonable, and he turned them around in approximately an hour, which was less time than he quoted. Nothing but a great experience, would definitely recommend. I want to start by saying I try to always support small businesses, and this is the 1st negative review I have written. I stopped by this morning (I did not have an appointment. Didn't know I needed one). The man came out front asked if I had an appointment. I said, no and then he asked to see what I needed done. I showed him my purse and asked if he could sew my strap. He proceeded to tell me that he would polish, take care of the fraying, & sew the strap. I replied, no just the strap is all I wanted done. This apparently was Not the correct answer because he got very upset. I said, WoW- I'll just go somewhere else. He walked back inside slamming the door and called me a not too nice name. My reply was again WoW! Listen, I really hope he treats his "appointed" customers with more respect or at least rewatches the video from his camera to assess how he treats potential customers. I'm really impressed, Gmome's maybe have been the subject of some poor customer experience but I have to say I'm delighted. So what do Gnome did for me exactly? For small, simple jobs I'd recommend this business! The turn around time was quick. I had three times: a pair of shoes that needed the straps reattached, a belt needing a new screw, and a belt needing to be extended. The shoes and first belt turned out great, I was pleased. The second belt... not so much. The first time it was dropped off, it wasn't extended, just recovered. I called and he said he'd be happy to fix it and this is what I got back. When I picked it up the second time, I was beyond disappointed but decided to take it somewhere else. This was my mother's belt and means the world to me... I have no idea where he got the diamondy pearl thing from... I wish he would've done a completely new piece of leather instead of the third piece with seashell punches that was added. Just called and asked if they knew what a Morton's neuroma is. It's a pinching of the nerve between the 3rd and 4th toe. Before I could finish she interrupted me and asked me what I wanted. My foot is in pain and all I needed was someone to at least sound like they wanted to help. The person was rather short and abrupt with me. Zero customer service skills. Nobody explained anything to me when they were dropped off (other than the cowboy heel I mentioned). Nathaniel came out of your building to my truck with a clipboard. He said you could do a "cowboy heel" and that was it!! NOTHING WAS MENTIONED ABOUT GLUING IT ON. Then he gave me a handwritten 3x5 card as a receipt and scurried back inside. As far as your assessment we use a shoe horn to take the boots off......uh, no. Shoe horns are designed to PUT BOOTS ON. A boot PULLER is used to take them off. I would think in your "professional" capacity you'd be aware of the difference. Regardless, having owned boots my entire life and currently having about 15 pairs of cowboy boots - I am WELL versed in how to take boots off properly. The heel was WORN DOWN AND NOT A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. Stop blaming your inability to effectively perform your job on someone else. Double H works boots are solid quality and (except for the heel wearing down from use) will last for years. In any case you have demonstrated (to us and all the others you've previously hung up on when your work is shoddy) that you have ZERO customer service skills, work ethics, social skills or manners. This guy is an absolute crook and a liar. I took a pair of sandals to him that needed the straps repaired. He quoted me $25 for the top and the bottom. I paid him $25 and When I went to pick them up, he handed me five dollars back and said he only replaced the top because the bottom didn't need it. I took his word for it. After wearing the sandals two times they again were faulty. I spoke to the owner. He remembered me and said he would charge me another $25 for the bottom. I told him originally he told me the top and the bottom were $25 And he gave me five dollars back. He remembered that and then he told me I told him not to replace the bottom - no that wasn't it at all the man's a liar an absolute liar. I think he's on drugs. I told him I was going to put this comment on yelp and he said well I'll just dispute it like I do all of the complaints. Stay away from this business. This guy is angry and out of control. Since I posted this review, he has called me 10 to 12 maybe 15 times and keeps hanging up hanging up hanging up. Then I read his comment towards me and it's completely wrong! He doesn't know what he's doing and the way he treats customers he's a threat to our community. My next step will be putting an order of protection against him. He's dangerous. I called them and got a quote to repair my Ariat boots. They told me I could make an appointment to come in in 30 minutes. They gave me a quote and told me my boots would be ready in 45 minutes! I was highly impressed that they took care of me and fixed my boots in such a short period of time! They did a very good job and the price was very reasonable. Dropped by to have a pair of boots repaired. Heel had separated from upper. I brought the second boot but hadn't noticed that it too was in need of the same repair. Fortunately, the cobbler was able to address the repair immediately. He quickly and properly repaired and then conditioned the leather. Reasonably priced too. One thing I would do differently is that I would have made an appointment. I was simply lucky that the cobbler had the time after I had driven 30 min to get there. read more

If your shoe repair store is fancy, they must be overcharging. Fancy... this is not. Gnomes are mischievous, but always harmless. Gnomes guard mines of precious treasures hidden in the earth, and behind the entrance door, you will find one hiding... clearly indicated that I found a hidden gem in east Mesa. Let's be honest, you can find more than hidden treasures throughout the very small, crowded storefront. The price was fair, but be prepared to pay in cash. Today I called the Gnome Shoe Repair store to see if they could work with my shoes. The man who answered said yes. I asked if I could bring them down. Again he said yes. I traveled over to the shop where he meets me outside because the inside of his store is all shop. So we stood out in the sun. He looks at the shoes and says he can work on them. That he'll charge $30 for both shoes and that I have to pay him cash prior to the work. Well, I didn't have that much cash on me and I let him know that. So he handed my shoes back to me and said I could come back when I had the cash. To which I replied, "You knew I was traveling out here. Why didn't you just tell me on the phone?" All he said was you can come back another day when you have the cash. Now, I have no idea whether this guy does quality work, but if this experience was any indication I would stay away from this shop. Well, I wish I have read the reviews from this place prior to taking my business to them. I needed a pair of brand new boots (never worn) to be polished and shine. The main guy said he could do it for $20. The shoes were "ready" within the hour. When I picked up the boots, they looked shiny but I could tell that he only painted them!! He freaking used paint to shine them. Of course as soon as I put them on the pain started flaking. I'm glad I didn't go back, after reading all these reviews about the owner getting really defensive, I've probably would of gotten too and it would have not ended well. You are not allowed to go in the shop. The owner is rude. He will treat you like an idiot. He is about 4 times as expensive as Fabian (Bless him) (Lamb's Shoe Repair). He wanted $85 for replacing the soles on one pair of shoes. He refuses to glue Ferragamo's when the sole separates (something Fabian did and did well). He will, however, put a tire tread on the bottom of your Ferragamo's -- in a different color than the shoe and charge you $85. You have to call ahead -- you can't go into the shop - and you have to pay cash. He never wants to do what you want done to your shoes and have done for years -- and it has worked. He knows more than anyone in his mind. Never going back. read more

I was harassed, cursed at, ripped off and left flabbergasted that this business is up an running with all complete disasters happening in this small Main St building. I ordered soles being redone and ordered special, comfortable , non slip black rugged soles. I was given the cheap ones he had shown me when I got there.....(ones that he had sitting around and admitted they were cheaper) I made the mistake of taking the grocery bag (paper) containing my "cheap Goodwill shoes" /yeah the owner said that! / to my car before inspection. Once I realized I had been ripped off , I took the shoes back into the store (or tried) to have a conversation with him.....I only got one foot in the door before I was banned from the property. He physically pushed me out the door and said to take him to court if I wasn't happy! Completely unprofessional and a disgusted that he is in the same small business community that I take part in.....I support and own/operation here in Mesa. Oh my lord, I look my UGG to be cleaned because my cat urinated on them, he said there was no guarantee that he could get it all out, came to pick them up about 20 minutes ago and I about threw up, I pre paid him $60 to clean them. When I picked them up, there was no suede left on them, there are new stains that were never their, the color has completely changed and they don't even match, I boots look completely horrendous, their scratched up and completely stiff. These shoes we almost brand new when I took them in, besides some dirt, NEVER EVER take your shoes here, go somewhere else, I have half a mind to go back there and ask for a full refund!!!! read more

Very recently they rebuilt my wife's Birkenstocks soles, cork and leather straps. Spent $90. Today one toe strap broke they replaced which was the original reason for them to be repaired in the first place then they suggested replacing the cork and soles. Great they got the job. Texted them today. Got a call back but it ensued in to a pissing match and denial he did the straps then the guy hung up on me saying good luck finding someone else. Very disappointing being treated that way. Early in the conversation he said he could peel back the cork and replace the strap but had to charge me for it. Never got a chance to find out how much. My wife was satisfied with the work and the cost but the customer service after the sale needs improvement. Found there are quite a few shoe repair places in Mesa besides this one that will get the job. As we speak we are going to the Birkenstock store in Tempe on Mill to get her some new ones. We took some boots and a purse in. Also some men's dress shoes. I thought my purse looked great. It took a while and we had to trust the guy in getting his service completed and that was hard for us. My husbands dress shoes were beautifully done. I have been coming here for over 20 years and am still coming back. I am grateful to have a repair shop near by. Also thrilled to do business with anyone on the spectrum of autism in my community. Worth any inconvenience or not being able to get into the shop anymore. I'm hesitant to post this because I had such a horrible experience that I worry about how the owner and employee may react, but I don't want anyone else to go through what I did. I brought a pair of shoes to be fixed. The owner said to come back on Monday to pick them up. On the day they said they would be ready, I went to get them. (FYI -it's about a 25 min drive one way from my house) When I get there it's closed for lunch. I sit in my car for about 10 minutes waiting for them to come back. When he gets there he apologized and said he was getting lunch. I said "no worries". When I go in he says he doesn't have them yet because he has a big order he's working on, but they'll be ready the next day. I said okay, I'll come back tomorrow. Next day I show up and the other employee is being really loud and is very obviously upset about something. The owner apologizes and says he has anger issues but is a good employee. I'm thinking... if this behavior happens regularly, that's not a good employee, but I just smile and say nothing. He then says they have a big order that they haven't finished so I need to come back the next day. I also asked if the restaurant next door is closed for good or just during covid. He said just covid because of how small it is. We had a nice chat and I mentioned I was glad because we like the restaurant. Next day, I show up again. I walk to the counter and soon after another woman comes behind me. He said, let me help her first. I'm a little surprised, but I step aside and let him help her. It's pretty quick. Then, he he apologizes but says my shoes still are not ready. He does offer me a $3 discount for the trouble. Next day, I show up and the owner and employee both seem upset about something. The owner goes to get the shoes and I pull out my credit card. He sees it and says it's cash only. I apologize and say I'll need to go get some cash. He said it's $18 and I better go get it. I said I will, but you said it was $15 because... and before I could finish my sentence he went OFF on me! He was very angry and told me I better go get the $18 cash or I don't get my shoes. Now both guys are in my face YELLING at me. I tried to communicate with them but they just kept yelling, I literally couldn't get a word in. One of them was close to the door and they were on either side of me, so I was feeling really unsafe. These people were unhinged. Finally they say either go get the cash or you don't get the shoes. I pause for a moment because I like and want my shoes, and intended to pay the full price regardless of his previous $3 off offer, but I'm genuinely scared of them at this point. I decide it's not worth the shoes and said, you can keep the shoes, and Wales out to my car. They follow me out, take photos of my car, my license plate and me before walking away. I get in my car and am ready to pull away when I see the employee next to my car, which startled me. He took the tips off of both of my shoes and puts them and my shoes on the hood of my car. I waited until he left, got out to get them of my hood. When I got home, I decided to see if they were salvageable. I was able to put one tip back on. When I started to put the other one on, there's a nail sticking out of it! I have no idea if they did that on purpose or did a shoddy job to start with. Needless to say, I will never go there again. I also won't go to the cafe nearby. I am terrified of them and hope I NEVER see either one of them again. read more

Now... this was an experience like no other. Gave them a call and I told him what I needed done. (lift on left boot, do to short leg from military disability) He started out telling me more rules and regulations of how he does business and how I needed to conduct myself than anyone I've experienced. In other words, I was hearing a lot of paranoid schizoid going on here. You have to bring cash and pay before work is started as well. Went to the store and had to talk business outside on the sidewalk. The new boots that I need lifted have a thicker sole and began telling him that the lift would need to be shorter than the boots I was wearing, so that I wouldn't have the chance of twisting an ankle from to much height on a uneven surface. (more height, more leverage of the boot flopping over). He wouldn't hear of it and rudely said he won't work on them and left us standing out there on the sidewalk. As he was stomping off I said he didn't have to work on my boots, but would be good if he knew why it should be done that way so that others won't have that problem.
