I wanted to support a local small business, and I understand that mistakes can happen. I paid for the work, thanked them, and did not ask for a refund. However, based on my experience, I will not be returning. I brought in a bag to have two zipper sliders replaced because the pull tabs had broken off. About a week and a half later, I received a text stating that the zipper itself was ripped and needed to be replaced at an additional cost of $130. The problem is that the zipper was not ripped when I dropped the bag off. The damage is very noticeable and is located directly on the zipper track. It would have been obvious to both me and the shop during intake if it had already existed. The bag is older, so my assumption is that the zipper may have torn during the slider replacement process. Had the shop simply told me that, I would have understood. What bothered me was being told the damage was pre existing and then being presented with a $130 upsell after already paying $45 for the original repair. Considering the bag can be purchased new for around $100, the recommendation made even less sense to me. I paid the bill and picked up my bag, but I left disappointed. From many of the reviews, it sounds like the previous owner built an excellent reputation over many years. Unfortunately, my experience under the current ownership did not reflect the level of service I was expecting. You need to RUN from this place! Dropped off a pair of boots to get heals repaired.. . Came back a week later they couldn't find them. When they did they HAD NOT been repaired.left them again. . When returned a week later picked them up and headed to airport for international flight. 10 minutes at airport heals fell off. . They insufficiently glued heals and no stitching . . Over the years I have brought shoes, leather belts and travel totes to Steve in need of repair. He has always done an amazing job looking good as new! As long as I can remember, he only accepts cash so keep that in mind before you drive there. I had heard Steve was retiring so I called to make sure he would be there before I stopped by. I had one small thing I needed before the doors close or the business gets sold off. He is a very kind man and explained how to care for my leather goods after he is gone. 1st time here. Was really hoping to find a great local spot for all my leather bags and shoes. NOPE. Will have to keep looking. Thankfully only brought a $150 Madewell leather bag here for the 1st try. Charged me $28 for one small loop re-stitch. Said they would also condition leather. They never called, never answered the phone or called me for 2 WEEKS when they quoted a few days. I have to physically come in to ask about my bag. Bag was not conditioned as promised but when I went to get cash before I came back they slapped something on it that discolored the original leather tone. Stitch work poorly done. Glue everywhere. I understand it's a small business. I respect that. I paid the money full price, thanked them, and will NOT be back. They couldn't repair basic cream color shoes because of limited selection of shoe polish, which honestly you could buy every color on Amazon. 2. Did bare minimum repair of heels. No polish. No clean up. 3. Left Coach handbag for leather handle replacement. Wasn't ready after 1 month!!! Continued to call to follow up and see if it was ready. Steve has put off his retirement until June 1st! Lucky for me, I am able to see him and patronize his business until the end of this month. He's been in this city longer than I have and I transplanted to Chandler 25 years ago. He assures me that the new owners will keep the business running well for they have a location in Scottsdale that offers the same services. Yes run!!! Dropped off cute shoes that were reasonably still new for just new soles, went to pick them up and the wooden part of the shoe was damaged, sloppy job, they did not try to stain it or defer the damage. When I asked what happened the girl said "that's because they have wood" did not even try to see if they can polish them-nope. They looked worse than when I dropped them off!! You can keep them. Don't take your shoes there!!!! They ONLY accept cash cause they probably don't pay taxes and or have no proof they screwed your shoes. Really disappointing read more

I am sad to say I have nothing nice to say about this place. I see positive reviews but they are from the PREVIOUS OWNER. Trust me. Steer clear of this place. It's bad news. I was in France and purchased a tote bag. When I got back to Az the brand new bag that had been wrapped in a plastic bag at the museum shop had a loose grommet. A grommet is the metal ring -- think the hole where you put a shoe lace. I knit and have made felted wool bags where I installed grommets. It costs less than a dollar a grommet. It takes about 2 minutes to install at the most. Are you wondering why I took it there/here? Well, I don't have various grommet sizes. To purchase you have yo buy a whole bag of them and it needed one. Simple item with simple labor. I took it into this place. They told me it would take 3 days. I thought...they must be busy. Then they told the person next to me that his show would be ready the next morning. That should have been my first clue that things would not go well. The pick up day was to be Saturday. I decided to wait until Tuesday since I had errands in the area that day. I got there and they couldn't find it. A few employees got involved had finally called their other shop in Scottsdale. The person there wanted to talk to me. He had taken it to the other shop and had to order the grommet. Well. This stinks since I drove from Gilbert to Chandler for no reason. A phone call would have been nice. So I was told--end of the week. Went back the following week...still couldn't find it. Phone call again...now they had to order a tool. I was told we will call you...Another week passes. I am now concerned. I called. The girl said...I called you last week . It was done. I drive there AGAIN. Guess what... they can't find it... AGAIN. Phone call to other shop AGAIN. Guy says, I told you we'd call you. I said ... the girl did. Turned out she was confused and called me instead of an owner of a different bag. So today... I got a call and went to get it. It's been over a month of this nonsense. To top it off.... I was quoted $20. Today they wanted $30. Nope. I refused. I KNOW what the part costs and how to do it. Had a backpack with a split zipper and a small tear inside the lining . The zipper failed less than a week after service . Zippers are tricky so while disappointed I'm not super surprised . Absolutely blown away by how amazing my boots turned out. Steve resoled, reconditioned, and completely repaired a very special pair of cowboy boots. When I picked them up my jaw hit the floor. To add to the amazing, handcrafted repair, Steve himself is just an all around great guy. He took the time to coach me up on the best way to take care of/condition my boots and also had some great cedar boot shapers to add in. I brought in a pair of sandals on a Monday for strap re-stitching. The left shoe needed 1 strap stitched and the right one needed 2 straps. She said the charge would be $24.00 cash and half was due now. So I paid her $12.00 cash. The cashier said it would be a week. She said she would call when they were finished. She didn't call. I called and left a voicemail. No response. I called on Saturday and she said they were ready. I went to pick them up on Monday and found that only 1 STRAP on the right shoe was "repaired". The stitching was TERRIBLE; the thread was 3-4 shades lighter and it was not uniform stitching, it was knotted over and over. I told her it was terrible stitching and she said that was all he could do. I showed her the other straps he didn't touch and she said "oh, well he probably didn't see those". Then she said "you never said to repair those other ones." I told her I was not going to pay the other half. I walked out and then returned because I should not have to pay $12.00 for an INCOMPLETE, poor stitching job. I told the cashier and she said she would ask the cobbler. She went back and they were speaking back and forth. After a few minutes, she came back out, opened the register and refunded me the $12.00. While she was in the back, the cobbler actually removed his shoddy stitching from the right shoe as well! ***I DO NOT recommend this business. I bought a pair of very cute ballet flats. They were not cheap. The first time I wore them, they literally made me bleed. They weren't returnable so my choice was sell them on Poshmark or try to have them stretched. So I called Artisans to see if stretching was an option. I was told it was and quoted a price range on the phone. I was also told the limited hours and that it's a cash only business. When I brought the shoes in, Steve explained to me what he could do to try to fix the flats based on where they hurt. We made a decision to straighten the back of the shoe. I'm 60yo and I've NEVER written a review in my life, but this experience made my blood boil. You are not going to believe what happened to me yesterday when I visited this place. I strongly encourage the owner to respond because what you staff did was criminal (no exaggeration). I brought my pair of Columbia hiking boots to the front counter and kindly asked how much it would cost and what would the repair person do in order to fix these boots. Now the soles of the boots were only 1/3rd the way off, and I was considering gluing them myself. The young lady up front said she'd take the boots and ask her boss "behind the curtain". When she returned the soles of both boots WERE 100% OFF!!! In other words, the guy behind the curtain had a temper tantrum with my boots and made them even harder to repair by ripping the soles completely off the shoes. I told the lady, "I can't believe he did that, why it the world did he? I'm really upset" She just meekly smiled, shrugged her shoulders saying she didn't know, but realized that what he did was wrong. STAY AWAY from this place! I have been to this store for two separate needs. The first time I took in two handbags and a pair of sandals that needed repair. The gentleman explained to me in detail why he was unable to work on the bags. They aren't real leather and would cost more than they were worth to fix, and for the sandals he suggested I use shoe cement for the specific problem. He also said he could do it and told me how much he would charge. I appreciate his honesty and allowing me the option to fix it myself and save money. The second time, I took him a pair of cowboy boots that needed to be stretched in the shaft. I was very nervous about having them stretched because of all the stitching and detail at the top of the boot. Again, thoroughly expect the boots and said he could do it but it was a slow process and would take a week. I picked them up today and they are perfect! You would never know they had been stretched!
