We needed our Bosch diswasher fixed which was out of warrenty. Chris was the repair person who was on time, polite, respectful, helpful. He quickly fixed the issue. Do not use! Service does not stand behind their sales commitments. While I had a good experience 5 years ago, I called to ask AJ to service the dishwasher I bought through them. They advise that they do not stand by their extended warranties any longer and I was referred out. I pushed back by saying that it was purchased through them and they sold me on the extended warranty explicitly by saying it would be covered with them. I used no foul language but I did refer to the fact that their reviews had gone down in recent years. They refuse to communicate with me any longer despite the money I have spent with them. We bought brand new speed queen machines from AJs about a year ago. Within a few months it become clear that the machines were lemons, the washer didn't agitate the clothes at all and left major stains on everything ruining lots of clothes along the way. The dryer took multiple cycles at the highest settings to dry something. We called AJs to see if something's wrong, they sent their repair person out to look at it and immediately told us the machines were terrible and he doesn't recommend them to anyone. We have been told by AJs to take it up with the manufacturer, which will certainly go nowhere. You'd think spending $2500 on new machines would generate some help and attention, but alas we need to replace them. Will be buying the next ones from somewhere else read more

Kind of a hot mess of an establishment. Had them come to my apartment to fix a burner on our stove and replace a part on my broken dryer. They had to order the part, for which we gave immediate approval, but we heard nothing from them for a few weeks so when we called, they said they were awaiting our approval for the part. Several other similar communication fails took place and after much frustration and difficulty in getting them access to our condo (they repeatedly failed to send over the necessary paperwork), they finally came and got everything fixed. They did ultimately get the job done, which is why this isn't a one-star review. read more

Guy who sold me the house screwed me on several things and I knew that as I told the inspector. - In 2010 I replaced the old Sheet Queen washer and AJ Appliance sold it to me and installed it. I didn't get screwed over. - A couple years later the dryer went. Called AJ's Appliance, Speed Queen Dryer, boom, no screw over. - For Twelve years after AJ Appliance installed the washer and dryer the majority of humans who come near me tried to and did screw me or others over. - It's now 2022 and my 2010 Speed Queen Washer is broken and so is my bank account. I called AJ Appliance to have them look at my washer. It's shot. (To all renters out there: shot is what happens to something owned by someone else and you've been touching and using it but you pay nothing for it to be replaced. Why anyone would ever want to rent to renters is beyond me. You have to be mean to renters.) - Anyway today I walked over to the store to discuss replacing the washer. Walked over to the store. I could have biked, Lyft'd, etc, but it was better to go in person because I am not more important than they are, I need them. - I get to the store and with a staffing shortage like at most places (because everyone's fed up with everyone else) the store was closed early. Missed it by 10 minutes. - Sitting outside I called to be all annoyed and while it started out that way I sat down on the side walk took a breath and laughed and AJ's was 1000% helpful. They gathered my past orders, my repairs, and we discussed my options. And an hour later I had homework. - I know I've been calling AJ's since 2005 when I rented a place and I paid for the items to be repaired, not the landlord. Never has AJ's not been trustworthy and not been helpful. - You can say maybe I have low expectations or maybe I don't expect others to jump because my appliance is not working. We are talking non-life threatening items here. It's not like loss of water, heat, electricity or even cooling. It's the lazy man's convenience machines. Laundry mats exist everywhere. Fridge on the fritz? Everyone's got a cooler, or how about storing that cold stuff in the washing machine with ice. Microwave busted? Ask your kids to hold the food. I went in there to buy a range for my rental apartment. I wanted something inexpensive and low end. They did not have a floor model of the range they showed me on-line, but I agreed to buy it anyway. They did not explain how cheap, poorly built, and inferior this product was. I did not realize what I bought until after they installed it. When I called to plead my case, they would not entertain an exchange for a slightly higher end mod. I even offered to pay a restocking fee. I will never use AJ Appliance again and I will recommend against them whenever the conversation comes up. This is the only time I would have been better off at a big corporate box store. To make matters worse, the bill was close to $200 more than quoted. It took four calls to get an explanation. They were valid charges, but unexpected and uncommunicated. Three days later On Friday July 10 I came home to find my laptop missing, the charger, a bunch of jewelry, a backpack, and a jar of change emptied out. My whole bedroom had been ransacked. I contacted the police and made a report. I contacted AJ appliance and was told that on the morning of July 10 2015 ONE OF THEIR TECHNICIANS NAMED BOB HODGE HAD TAKEN MY KEYS OUT OF THEIR LOCK BOX TO RETURN THEM TO THE REALTY OFFICE BETWEEN 10 AND 11 AM. This is around the same time one of my two roommates said she heard someone come in and leave very quickly, but she had chalked it up to me or my other roommate coming in and out just to grab something. Please note that NO ONE else had keys to the apartment at the time. AJ appliances owner Tricia did nothing to help me in this situation, and only defended Bob without even questioning him. Not only did Bob steal from our home, he made three young women feel unsafe in their apartment. I'm only writing this review now because months later I saw Bob on the street and confronted him about the incident. He laughed at me and told me that I couldn't prove it. WHAT A SCUMBAG. Terrible business owner! Very Very Rude! Purchased a washing machine. The owner was very abrupt and rude for no apparent reason. After hooking up the washer we discovered it leaked water, however only on extra large load. Checked all connections and the drain with no signs of leaking. The leaking was coming from the bottom of the washer. Returned it the following week and again the owner was extremely rude. He did exchange it per his warranty however after hooking it up the washer would get stuck on spin cycle. So, we had to return this washer. Again incredibly rude and with his assumption that I did not understand Spanish he began to speak with his associate absolutely degrading me and hurling superlatives. Rather than knocking him out I simply kept my mouth shut. We'll see if this one works however I would highly recommend buying anywhere but from this place! read more

My dealings with AJ appliance in regard to a broken washing machine for my business, a hair salon, could not have been more difficult and stress inducing. As a salon we need laundry access multiple times a day for our Buisness to function properly. Not only were there several delays regarding but a sever lack of communication. I understand certain things take time and parts need to be ordered but these are things that were not communicated. Between multiple visits there were often no statements, quotes, updates, status's given to me or to any of my staff. The repairs person came through and left without any sort of information being passed on. Nothing to express exactly what was wrong, what they could do or how long it would take. Leaving us completely in the dark on how long we'd be without laundry. It turns out reports had been made by the repairs person which I was only made aware of after calling in and pressing to speak to management. These guys have been my go-to appliance repair people since I moved into my house two years ago. Each time they were quick to come out, diagnose, and fix my problems. During the recent heat wave when my refrigerator started failing, they made a point to be out the next day. Within an hour the tech diagnosed the problem, got a replacement part from their stock, and had me up and running and I hardly lost any food as a result. All at a fair price. I also had them fix my washer when the main circuit board failed. They ordered the new part and had it promplty repaired. And on top of all this, they were able to get my 1940s oven back up to normal operation. I previously had to light the oven with a match, and the thermostat was off by 100+ degrees. AJ rebuilt the thermostat and cleared the pilot tube so that not only does the stove look great, it works great, too. read more

Getting appliances repaired stinks. It means something is broken. And it means I am grumpy. I just moved into a new house and there have been a lot of broken things that needed repair (Yuck!). AJ Appliance was the least painful repairer I dealt with. I called. They scheduled. They said they would be there between 8:30 and 9:30am. They called at 8:30 to say they would be there between 10 and 1. I was annoyed. But they showed up at noon. And they fixed what needed to be fixed. And they didn't charge an obscene amount. And 3 hours late isn't that bad for a repair place. If they had actually showed up at the original time, I would have given them five stars. To make what was a long story short, AJ suggested sending a tech to see if my dryer could be repaired. Patrick arrived 2 days later and said that the motor, belt and fan needed to be replaced. Two days later, he repaired my dryer and it now works better than it ever did before. Patrick was on time, knowledgeable, and very professional. AJ saved me about $700, because the only new gas dryer that can fit through my basement door is one that can be assembled in my basement. Rude customer service. And SLOW/NON-EXISTANT service in general. Buckle up... this may take a while. I called on a Thursday or Friday to have someone come out for a service call for our garbage disposal. We scheduled it for Tuesday and I specifically asked for afternoon. The receptionist told me someone would call Monday to give me a 3-hour window that they would be out on Tuesday afternoon... ok fine. Received a message Monday afternoon, stating someone would be out between 10am and 1pm on Tuesday. Um... no... not what I had initially set up. I called the service person back to tell him that would not work for me and that I had requested an afternoon appointment. Left him a message twice and did not hear back from him. Called the main AJ Appliances number the following morning to see what the status was. The receptionist clearly did not listen to my explanation of events and was giving me information based on what she assumed I was saying, rather than what I was actually saying. I told her that it didn't make sense to me to argue and that, despite a great inconvenience, I would rearrange my schedule to convenience them (10am-1pm window) - even though the arrangement was originally for them to come out in the afternoon. We agreed that getting a phone call about 30 minutes prior to his arrival would be helpful. She then HUNG UP ON ME while I was still talking. If I did not need them to come, I would have cancelled this appointment. The serviceman was very nice, helpful, and informative. He told me the unit would need to be replaced and that the rep from the sales department would be in touch soon. He estimated that they could install the new disposal by the end of the week. Great! That was Tuesday. On Thursday afternoon, the sales guy left a message. I called him back within 30 minutes of his call and left a message. Nothing. Called Friday and left him another message. I called them because my washing machine broke and was trying to tell me some sort of error code, which I figured they have been trained to understand. $85 to come take a look which maybe isn't the cheapest but it does get applied to my repair bill. The man that came to the door was not the average appliance man you think of, he was clean and will dressed. Quick and painless to diagnose the problem, "its the control board, its a common problem on this type of machine" He couldn't give me a final price for the repair but it said it might be cheaper to replace the machine. He would get back to me in a few days with a better educated figure. a week goes by...a second week goes by, I decide to call them and see if I have fallen though the cracks. I'm told the manufacture hasn't gotten back to them about the part but should figure it out by the end of the week. two more weeks, two more phone calls to them. I was told that the foreign manufacture "guy" has been on vacation and just come back. I say that is great but I'm your customer and I have been waiting a month without a washing machine meanwhile spent another $85 at the Laundromat and want to know what they are planing to do to make this better. The answer I got was, "nothing we can do" I feel like they dont want customers just suckers to give them $85 so they can run-off with it. read more

I wholeheartedly agree with Nic J.'s comment from 10/4/2012. This company has very poor customer service with little follow through to actually get the machine fixed. Save yourself the headache and felling of being suckered by going to Dominic's at 1749 W. Passyunk instead. My crappy experience with AJ Appliance: I called to schedule an appointment to have our electric dryer looked at. The technician arrived and determined we'd need a new motor. He told us they're have to order the part and would give us a call when it arrived. Two weeks pass and no word. I call to follow-up and am told that I "have perfect timing! The part just arrived today." I scheduled an appointment for the following week. AJ tells me that I'll get a call on the morning of the appointment with a service timeframe. Day of appointment and no phone call. I call at 10a and they tell me that do not have record of my appointment. I reschedule for the following day The next morning I DO get a confirmation call with a service time frame. They arrive within the time frame and install the new part, a $350 motor. They then determine that the other motor in the dryer is also shot and needs to be replaced. The technician explains my options 1. leave the motor they just installed in the machine, allow AJ time to order a second motor, and they'll come back and install and only charge 1 service fee, but with the additional cost of the new motor, likely around $300 (which is obviously a reasonable charge) 2. leave the motor they just installed in the machine for the time being (it still doesn't work though), make arrangements to buy a new dryer from AJ, have them deliver and install the new machine, and take away the old machine. They'll apply that service fee ($85) and the price of the motor they left in the dryer ($350) to the new dryer price. The technician could not give me the price quote for a new dryer or for the additional part, but we left it with this- AJ would call me with 2 price quotes- 1 for the additional motor, 1 for a new dryer. At that point I would make my choice. Two more weeks pass and nothing. On the third week, I get a phone call saying my new motor is in. What?! I never talked to confirm my choice in service. Obviously AJ's have internal communication problems that severally effect the company's ability to provide through and accurate customer service. I will not be calling them, changing around my schedule, and taking time off of work for a company that is not reliable or thorough. read more

I have never had a worse experience with a company than I've had with AJ Appliance. It has been so bad that this is the first review that I have ever written. Unfortunately, despite their multiple mistakes, screw ups and horrible customer service, my landlord hires the repairmen so they keep coming back. Not any more though... The receptionists are rude and nobody EVER returns phone calls, even a manager, who I left a personal voice mail over three weeks ago. They ordered a new part for my fridge and they forgot to bring it, not once, but two times! Nothing ever is fixed on the first visit and most recently, I have been waiting for almost a month for them to fix my washer. They have been out on three separate occasions, where I have to take whole days off of work since they don't give you a time range until the morning of the appointment, and it still isn't fixed! Originally, it needed a new pump. When they came to install it, they left after 10 minutes and clearly didn't test the machine. Thereafter, the washer began making a horrific sound, like something was lose inside the machine and then it completely stopped working again. When they came back out they said the tub was cracked, which I am sure resulted from their failure to put the washer back together properly. A new tub is very expensive and of course, they deny liability for causing the crack. The new tub was ordered a week ago, and apparently it still isn't in. Not only did nobody call to give an update, but my landlord called multiple times and nobody gave her the courtesy of a response. When I called I was told that they can't control how long it takes for a part to come in. Clearly, that was not my issue, it was the lack of communication and poor customer service. I left a voicemail with their service department to follow up on a replacement door for my fridge because the company delivered a fridge with a dent in the door. All I did was provide the background facts around my circumstance and ask for an update regarding the door because it had been a week since I had heard from them without any update on the timeline. In return, I received a derogatory voicemail from a male employee who mocked my voice on the phone and said he was giving me attitude in response to my attitude. First of all, I did not have an attitude--I was merely following up on a service issue based on a defective door caused by no fault of my own. Second of all, even if I did have some attitude, the company should train their employees to act with at least some modicum of respect, particularly in a scenario where the customer did not timely receive the product that they bargained here. I ordered a new dryer on May 4 and was told it would be a couple of weeks before it could be installed. We left for vacation on June 16 with no dryer but with an assurance that installation was scheduled for the first week of August when we returned to the city. I rent an apartment where the mini fridge is an all-in-one unit under a counter with a small sink and range. It was sold as a set (Avanti.) My fridge died (brand new) within two months of being bought and installed. This was August 24th. My landlord promptly got in contact with AJ Appliance. However, customer service stretched this out until November 11th. Yes, I finally got a different fridge installed on the 11th. Now, why the long wait? Not sure. They played around with the temp settings and replaced a part. It took them forever every time to come out. Worst part? After all of this, they claim they measured the space to get the same type of fridge? What did I come home to find? A very small fridge and now a huge gap all around the fridge with the back of the wall all exposed and open. It looks terrible, and the tiny fridge is not even enough to hold a day or two of food. I could have saved myself the months of aggrevation as a renter and went to Walmart to buy the same little minifridge. What a nightmare. My landlord was great. She tried her best to get them out to the apartment. However, I will let her know that AJ Appliance was a complete waste of time, and I not at all happy with the smaller fridge that was a replacement for a faulty product. 2.5 days ago my Bosch washer died. It put in a solid 10+ years and it was done. I called AJ APPLIANCES and they said $1,300 and a week to get it done. Marvin who owns Airs Appliances said $200 less and 36 hours to get it done and they got it done! Nice guys from AIRS delivered my washer 1.5 days later, on time, 40 minutes to install and they showed me how to run it. I canceled my order at AJ Appliance (by voicemail because no one ever answers the phones at AJ!--they may--or may not---call you back depending on their mood). Derrick then called me and yelled at me saying I had obviously purchased an inferior machine--Bosch didn't think so when I registered warranty. You can never, ever get anyone on the phone at AJ but they will take time to call you and berate you for taking advantage of a better deal (and vastly better service) elsewhere. This may be the most screwed up company in Philadelphia! I guess the renovations to my rental units won't have any appliances form AJ in them! These people aren't just rude--there is something seriously wrong with the entire organization! Clearly the customer is at best a nuisance and, at worst, the enemy!--the paying customer! The moral of this story is--give you business to Marvin and his team at AIRS--they really do get it done fast, right and at a great price! read more

Patrick came out and serviced my dryer. Did an excellent job. He made a recommendation on replacing the gas valves while he was out there, but said that they were likely fine. I decided to do it anyways since he was out on site. He was great, honest , straightforward and did great work! read more

I needed a Speed Queen washer / dryer set. I called and spoke with Derek who guided me through my options. I called on a Monday and on Friday my W/D was installed. The team was very professional and cautious with putting in the units so as not to ding anything. The dryer initially made some noise so they spent time to tighten everything up and reduce the noise. They ran the washer and dryer to ensure everything worked and provided a tutorial in how to use the units. Derek emailed and called before the appointment and emailed after to follow up as well. I was thoroughly impressed with their professionalism and knowledge. I would definitely use again. read more
