We came in for cleanings for all my kids, and everyone in the office was very professional. They were even able to schedule us earlier than our original appointment, which I truly appreciated. Based on some of the reviews I've seen, I can honestly say we haven't really experienced anything truly negative. The only concern I had with Nicole was regarding obtaining copies of my children's medical records. I simply wanted copies for my personal records. I was told to send an email request. (It didn't make sense) Since I was already in the office, I thought I might be able to complete a release of records form there to begin the process. I understand there is a HIPAA compliance timeframe of 7 to 30 days for records to be released. I was not expecting to receive them immediately. I wanted to initiate the request. I also spoke with Nicole about aftercare for my children while we were there. She did try to explain as best as she could. However, I personally prefer speaking with Marisol. I feel more comfortable with her she explains things in a way that's easier for me to understand, being bilingual truly helps ensure I fully grasp everything. I'll admit, I always have a million questions, so thank you in advance for your patience. In my opinion, it's always best to ask questions and speak up ahead of time to help prevent any misunderstandings later. The dental hygienists were also very professional and sweet. I wish I had gotten their names, but I was going back and forth while all the kids were getting their cleanings around the same time. Overall, I'm still keeping it at 5 stars based on all experiences as it has been positive for the most part, aside from that small mishap. Do not let them work on your kids. I changed dental insurance's last year and this was the dentist that they picked for me. I brought my kids in for a routine cleaning which they did no do. They then proceeded to tell me that my 10-year-old had four cavities. They insisted that the work was going to be expensive and kept pushing their financial programs on me. I declined them and never went back. I changed my insurance and was able to go to a dentist that I felt comfortable with that I had previously used before I had changed my dental insurance. Another visit my children had to wait 2+ hours and I told them I couldn't wait any longer and left. They finally called me to apologize and said they were short staffed. My first bad experience was my 3 year old got a baby root canal and it fell out the next day! I shoulda known then to never go back! We went back to get it filled and it popped out the next day again! I had to go to another dentist to finish their work! Please do yourself the favor and look for a better dentist. Please look at the other reviews there is a reason there are so many one stars ! Dr. Shah is so rude! She doesn't care about the patients! **DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE** My biggest regret is stepping foot into this office. I made an appointment for my 6 year old daughter for a typical consultation/cleaning. Don't let the nice office and fake employees fool you. They will scare you into thinking there are all these things wrong with your child's teeth, convincing you your young child needs braces and cosmetic surgery for their financial gain. Lesson Learned: ALWAYS get a second opinion & read reviews prior to going somewhere.. as there are many similar situations I have read. Stay clear from Marisol, she involuntarily signed me up for a loan without my knowledge- used the information on the intake form plus asked my social security # and birthdate to fill out a loan application, on my behalf. Come to find out she lied on the loan application, saying I make over $90,000 a year in order to get approved and put me into a situation that I am unable to get out of. She completely manipulated me, as a single mom. My daughter has a complex heart condition. I left the office with a Medical Clearance Form. After providing the form to my daughter's cardiologist, he informed me that I cannot work with this office since the dentist, Dr. Shalini Shah, does not have privileges to work at CHOC. My daughter needs to have dental work done in a hospital setting, in case any complications arise. Originally, they were refusing to cancel the $1,500 loan they fraudulently and illegally signed me up for. They are now claiming I owe $500, when my daughter has not and will not be getting any work done. As stated by my child's cardiologist in a letter to the office(that was ignored): "Any payment made toward any planned or scheduled procedure should be refunded because it is contraindicated and has been made without full understanding of the risk involved to the child." They do not care about your child's health or wellbeing. Dr. Shalini Shah has been nonexistent, unresponsive and negligent. Her employees are liars and unprofessional. They are completing FRAUD and simply thinking they can get away with it. This is complete MALPRACTICE, they should lose their license for scamming people. She should be ashamed of the way she is running her business and stealing money from patients. My daughter has been to this dental office about 4 times. While they have a really cool waiting area for kids in the lobby, decor, TVs over the dental chairs, the people who work there have no idea how to talk to a kid. The hygienists and assistants barely acknowledge my child which makes her and me uncomfortably awkward. It's almost as if they are fresh out of dental school and have no idea how to communicate with kindness or patience. The doctor has never been very personable either. She's had a couple fillings and the last filling she got actually fell out weeks later. We took her back in and they refilled it. Not very long after, my daughter developed a painful bump on her gum line above that refilled tooth. I decided to take her to another dentist with a personal referral. He took an X-ray and could immediately see that the filling was too big for her tooth, causing the painful bump, put her on an antibiotic and gave us a referral to an oral surgeon who needs to pull the tooth with nitrous because he could tell the tooth will crack during removal. Needless to say, we won't be going back to A Kids Dentist. read more

Terrible office, they don't even deserve a single star! They push a topical antibiotic called ARESTIN, which costs $150-$250 per tooth out of pocket. The staff AKA Nicole will even use examples of her own kid having success with Arestin to convince patients. *I just learned that ARESTIN is commonly used in adult patients to treat gum disease. * In 2024, my 8-year-old son underwent a procedure under general anesthesia. While he was under, the office manager, whom I had never met, approached me and said my son needed a topical antibiotic ARESTIN for deep pockets to prevent infection. When I explained I couldn't afford $800, she offered a discount and suggested applying for CareCredit. She scared me into thinking it was necessary but left the decision up to me. Caught off guard, I agreed, knowing my son was under general anesthesia. I applied for CareCredit and got approved, but then she took back the discount and charged me full price. Dr. Shalini Shah's approach is inadequate; she rushes through appointments, does not explain potential risks, and fails to provide proper medical care. Months later, I returned for a Phase 1 appointment and found that my son had an abscess on his lower left gum. Dr. Shah recommended Arestin for $150.. well, Two weeks later, the abscess was still there. The front office staff asked me to bring him in again for Dr. Shah to recheck it. She examined him, noted the abscess was still present, and suggested another round of Arestin for $150, plus a $75 exam fee. I refused and took my son to Kaiser Permanente for a second opinion. The doctor there prescribed oral antibiotics and explained that Arestin would not help because the infection needed treatment through the bloodstream. Dr. Shah delayed my son's care. Additionally, the post-Arestin instructions advised given by staff NOT Dr. Shah was to brush gently near the abscess. However, when I checked the manufacturer's guidelines for Arestin THREE weeks later, they specified waiting twelve hours after treatment before brushing, avoiding touching the treated areas, and refraining from flossing for ten days. I shared my concerns with Nicole and Office manager Marisol and explained that I'm not comfortable with the office. I told them I wouldn't be returning for any further general treatment for my kids and wanted to stop phase one for my son, who currently only has an upper expander. I've been making payments to the office, and after reviewing everything, Marisol said she would credit me $1,050. The next day, however, she called to say they were parting ways with my son and that I wouldn't be credited back; instead, I actually owed them $200. I made it clear that I had initiated the separation from the dental office. When I asked which lab made the expander so I could verify the price, she said they don't share lab information. She mentioned they charge $150 for each ortho visit handled by assistant Michael. They don't even adjust the expander; they just take a quick look in his mouth. It feels like they're trying to charge you as much as possible. Very disappointing how they handle their business. I explained that he didn't attend in June, but she responded that they still charge for the month. This is confusing--are they charging per visit or per month? She also mentioned my son had an appointment on 8/13/25 at 4:30 PM to remove the expander. I told her no, his appointment is at 3 PM, but she said she rescheduled to fit another kid in. I then hit record on my phone, and when she heard the notification, I repeated what she said. Her story changed, and she denied saying that, claiming she was verifying the appointment and that it was scheduled for 3 PM. I told her I didn't want to show up at 3 PM and wait for an hour and a half, but she insisted we'd be out on time. Something is seriously wrong with this office. *UPDATE* 8/13 Shortly after 2pm, I received a call from Michael, the back-office assistant, informing me of an "emergency" case that pushed my son's 3pm appointment to 5pm. This came after I had already taken time off work, clocking out at 2pm to pick up my son from summer camp and take him to his appointment. I wasn't surprised by the news, given Marisol's comments the week before. I argued with Michael about the situation, as he claimed another child was in pain without considering that my son is also in pain and needs his expander removed. He even had the nerve to suggest I hadn't clocked out at 2pm. When he hung up, I called back, and Marisol answered. I asked if I was speaking to the office manager, and she said no. I then asked if it was Marisol, recognizing her voice, and she admitted it was--so she lied again. After hearing my complaints, she rescheduled my son for Monday at 2pm, but unfortunately, I can't take time off work again. I've decided to stop all services with this office!!! read more

Met with Dr. Shah and Staff to discuss concerns of the oral surgery completed for my special needs son. Result is better understanding of their surgery policies, and options, changes to improve communication with parents during surgery. We are working on insurance claims together to hopefully compensate more out of pocket expenses and possible dental options moving forward. Dr. Shah has been caring for my son and dental irregularities since a toddler and now into his adulthood. Dr. and Staff were understanding and caring and listened to my concerns, and offered their support for claims, and explained how they used their expertise for best option for his oral care, and better communication between departments. I've been thinking about posting this review for a while. I do not recommend this dentist. My daughter is 7 years old, both of us had appointments the same time. After barely looking inside my mouth they told me I need tons of work $3,000.00 worth. I take great care of my teeth had braces as a teen and only have one cavity. They told me my daughter needed a root canal on a baby tooth $400.00 with some gas or something....$400.00. = $800.00. The following week I drove to Anaheim Hills to see my family dentist (30 years he has been in practice) to get a second opinion. My daughter and I have no issues, I just can't believe this place. If you love your child, do NOT bring them here. We started going when my daughter was 2. That means it took me 4 years to finally leave a review. Occasionally filling here and there. We were hapy with the service although the actual dentist was NOT hands on at all. We dealt almost 99% with the staff. The actual dentist would just come swoop in like she's a superhero and add more to what was previously "seen on exams". But hey, my daughter was fine and she at that point was not afraid of the dentist but then again, she didn't have many teeth. What irritated me was, they told me that daughter had "x" amount of fillings at age 6 so of course they had her take photos and then claim them with dentical before performing procedures. But when we came in the second time to fill the cavities, she all the sudden added all these other procedures that she said were "overlooked" the first time so we would have to pay more out of pocket, or just wait even longer. Also, we would have to pay an extra fee on top of all the procedures for the nitrous although that is too covered by dentical. I had referred my friend here and she was quoted $100 for nitrous and I had been quoted $75 for it. Hmmmm? Did botox prices rise? Long story short, we got a second opinion. Guess what, we didn't need half of what she claimed was detrimental. Please please please do NOT come here. The dentist is so dishonest and does not care for the well being of our children. She is a business at the end of the day and trying to make money off of our kids. I'm so embarrassed that I referred my friends here. Dr. Sanger and the orthodontist team are excellent. Both my child's braces and my own Invisalign went smooth as silk from first consultation to last retainer. They were kind and respectful at every appointment The children's specialist, Dr. Shah and her assistants were extremely patient and kind with my special-needs child who normally experiences anxiety surrounding dental work but Dr. Shah put her at ease right away. I had to write a review for this scam dental office to warn people that they do fraudulent fillings and a incorrect analysis of cavities. They insisted my son had 4 cavities, however that didn't seem right, they also claimed that he needed surgery for a gap for his tooth which was also incorrect. I saw two other dentists and both reported he had 0 cavities and that they would never perform surgery for the small gap because of the age and because it's baby teeth. I called many other dentists in the same city and NONE of them are charging the $20 covid surcharge. Some were confused when I asked and I had to explain what I was talking about. I also called my dental insurance and they were shocked. So shocked that they got supervisors involved to understand if legal and what could be done. They told me to call the dentist back to allow them an opportunity to reverse the charges on my credit card or refund me and to know that if it didn't that I would be filing papers and claims against their practices. I did call them, but apparently they chose to ignore my request. The charge posted to my credit card today. The insurance are sending me papers to file a claim against the dentist, the details are also noted with my credit card so they have on file this merchant. Because it was charged on my credit card I have proof of the $20 charge. I spent a lot of time with this, and $20 is not worth the time and energy I expended, but I am tired of professionals who take advantage of people because they can and who are billing amounts that people find too small to dispute and fuss over. They continue to do it because it works and their tactics corner people as they did me. I questioned it out loud and actually got the reply lie FROM the dentist herself who said they needed to prove to the health department that I had paid the $20 fee. I didn't tell her anything about my dental experience nor what I was told (that I needed at least two fillings and a crown.. etc based on the 1-2 xrays of same 3 teeth). Having not seen her in about 3-4 years they took a full panel of xrays to see all my teeth. No cavities. Teeth healthy. While my culver city dentist was cleaning my teeth (this dentist does the cleaning herself) she saw the problem in the back on the molar. She cleaned it up for me and told me I needed to get a waterpik at Costco or Walmart and get some of the pipe cleaner style brushes to care for that area. I asked about the rest of my teeth and she said they look great and she'd see me in 6 months. When I asked about cavities she showed me the x rays and said my teeth were healthy. Disclosure, this is my FIRST review EVER, don't believe me, do your research. I do NOT even use social media, really, but this is LONG OVERDUE. I'm on the tip of the ledge and nobody to talk me off of it! **My two children are established patients of Dr. Shah for about 8 years. I chipped my front tooth in middle school and hated my smile after that. I'm now in my late 30's. About 2 years ago the chipped tooth filling came off! Veneers were the number one and best recommendation by Vanessa and Dr. Shah, two years later, about 4 different sets of veneers, chipped veneers, different color veneers, different size veneers from Mr. Crown the other XX (I will share the business name after I locate in my journal of horror dental stories). The temporaries that you wear while you wait for your veneers are horrible... hideous, they fall out within a few days. I currently have four shaved molars, pending delivery of veneers, NEVER ON time, and NO temps, I'm so embarrassed, I do not smile. I haven't genuinely smiled since I decided to get vanners at this facility because I trusted them. I've missed weddings, memorial services, birthday parties, and family event due to my missing teeth for almost two years. The worst part of it all, I share my concerns and bad experiences with the office staff and they have no sense of urgency. Yet, they charge you for everything before you even start any procedures. I've been waiting for Vanessa to credit my money from my FSA account for almost 1 year ago. I've been nothing but flexible, understanding, and kind to the front office and Dr. Shah BUT I have yet to feel any empathy from anyone in this facility. I had impressions done over two weeks ago for veneers, as of today, per Nicole the veneers are NOT in. It's hard to believe... Two stars; their emails, text, and calls for reminders was great I felt like I would enjoy my sons first visit. He is two years old. Before I went in I called to let them know he had a cough and runny nose. It was his first visit to a dentist and it wasn't his favorite place (obviously because he's small) when the assistant took him in she seemed bothered that he had a cough and told me I should have let them know (which I did) The dr told me he had to get work done and it required sleeping my TWO YEAR old. The price was out of my budget. When I told the dr I was afraid about the sleeping part she got offended. She said there was no other option so he could get the treatment. I felt discouraged. It's such a headache trying to find a dentist that accepts your insurance and have good reviews. I was so nervous about coming here because of the previous negative reviews. Calling in and speaking to Nikki she made everything so easy going . She was nice and easy to talk to. Explained to her it was my sons first time at their office and he needs some cleaning done. I provided her with his insurance information and she had his eligibility checked right away for his coverage. The day of his appointment I received a text as a reminder which I like [ keep in mind , if you schedule an appointment with them you have 48 hours to cancel if not you'll be charge a $50 fee ] . Going in I was nervous for my son because I ,myself , hate the dentist. He's such a trooper though he got all his X-rays done and his teeth cleaned while watching two movies during the whole process. He really likes it here and loves how the movies helps distract him from getting his teeth worked on.
