"Unfair business practices, predatory billing, deceptive pricing, offices refusing to adjust obviously excessive fees and refund for services not rendered. This is all after I sent a letter via certified mail, which they refused to sign. I'm sharing my experience so other patients are aware before scheduling. I was charged(3) times an extremely high cancellation/no-show fees--over $5,268.00 in total, with individual fees as high as $1,809.00 each. These charges were never disclosed to me in writing, and I never signed any financial agreement showing that a missed appointment could cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. I was also charged $4,750.00 for services that were never performed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I asked for documentation to verify the charges, the office assistant, Nicole, told me their computers had been hacked and the FBI was involved, and she could not access my billing records or treatment history. However, another staff member was able to print my account records, which raised concerns about why I was told the information didn't exist before.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] HIPAA VIOLATION After taking those records to my new dentist, the new office reviewed my updated full mouth X-rays along with billing codes and confirmed that the services listed were not actually performed. Even with that verification, Shah DDS & Associates has not provided any valid explanation for the charges. Another major concern was how the office made me feel about my dental health. I was told that my teeth were in far worse condition than other professionals later confirmed. In hindsight, it felt like a scare tactic to encourage expensive treatment. My new dental office did a full evaluation and told me that the extensive and urgent treatment plan I was presented with was not medically necessary. I understand that dental offices may have cancellation policies and treatment recommendations, but they should be accurate, transparent, and presented with honesty. Being billed for services not performed and pressured into unnecessary treatment is unacceptable. Because the practice has not resolved these issues, I am filing formal complaints with the list below if anyone needs the same list. This review reflects my experience with the billing practices, communication, and patient treatment recommendations, not the clinical care itself. They are total scammers. I went to them months ago. Very nice looking place, but the dentist told me I had a bunch of cracked cavities, new cavities, I needed a root canal, etc. I'm only 28 and my teeth look and feel fine. So they quote me $9,000 and I said I wanted to think about it. Their billing department lady kept pressuring me and I kept telling her no, and that I would like to think about it. You know what she did next? Walked away and ILLEGALLY filled out a credit card application through Alpheon using my social I listed on my intake papers without telling me she was doing it!!!!!! Wtfffff!!!! So long story short I leave after getting a simple cleaning, and a week later is when I get a random new credit card in the mail. I had to call the company to close it immediately. I told my mom what happened and she was furious. She wants me to sue with our lawyer friends help who said he would do it. I told her I didn't want the drama so she put a review up on Google. The freaking owner (a young kid working for his dads business) actually called me up and asked me to take the review down. I honestly thought that was insane and highly inappropriate (but I asked my mom to take it down since the business is crazy). What makes this place even more insane and corrupt, is that I went to TWO upscale dentists in Irvine after this to confirm all the problems with my teeth including needing a root canal, a bunch of fillings, replacement of fillings, and more.... both places said that I have absolutely NOTHING wrong with my teeth at all!!!!!! I don't even have one cavity!!! I had them take extra X-rays to confirm and they were so confused on why this dentist ever said I needed anything. Unbelievable. Oh and just a note for Dr. Shah's office: if I am called or threatened again in any way to take this review down, you better know that I will get lawyers involved since I have a thick stack of paperwork to back what I say. (Including all of the credit card paperwork, closing the account the first day it arrived, all the x rays you took, the quote you gave me with everything I have "wrong" with my teeth.) They are fraudulent and scammers I came for a second opinion on 8/1. I advised them in advance that I had two instances, and they claimed to be an in network provider. They are not. I also advised them I got my x-rays and I would not pay for extra, especially because my insurance didn't cover them. I was told by a woman on the phone not to worry, and they will offer them complementary. Still, I was given paperwork where it stated about the x-rays again, I told them the same, in a lobby with 3 other workers as witnesses they repeat to me x-rays were complementary. I sat on the chair with the dentist for less than 10 min. Another woman came to talk to me about the plan and that she would request authorization from my insurance and call me back to schedule an appointment. They never called. On 8/15, I received an explanation of benefits from my insurance, and oh, surprise, they are charging the "complementary" x-rays, but they are also charging for a dental cleaning I NEVER RECEIVED. I called my insurance and told them my insurance called them, and they then called me to schedule a dental cleaning. No, that's the epitome of shameless... I put my insurance on a conference call and told the woman I was authorizing my insurance to conduct an investigation for fraud as well as contacting the Dental board association of California about their shady business, the woman said her manager Victor would call me in 10 min, it's been 15 days and counting since that phone call and no manager has reached out to me. I filed a complaint with the State about this place, and I encourage anyone who is interested in a group demand regarding this office malpractice and fraud to contact me. They are taking advantage of people here and doing fraud! Please take a look at the last picture. I don't like to write 1-star reviews, but I'm hoping this saves someone from a bad dentist experience. Let me preface this by saying, I've never had a bad experience at a dentist. I've always felt like I've been properly cared for and have never felt like I was being duped. So with that, here was my experience: I called on a Monday morning as I found Dr. Shah on my insurance in-network page - I was experiencing tooth pain, and asked if I could be seen that same day as I would be traveling later on in the week. The receptionist was very helpful and was able to book me an appointment at 2:30 PM. Cool... I got there at 2:15. They checked me in, and got me into x-rays. The young man who did them took I think 5-6 total shots of my mouth - we were done pretty quick. He brought me to another chair and waited a few minutes to be seen. While I sat, the person handling my file and checking my insurance walked over and asked if I wanted nitrous for the visit... and I laughed and asked, "why"? And she said, "Well, lots of people get it because they are nervous and it's only $200." I kind of laughed and said, no, I think I'll be ok, I've never had a problem before. Next, the dentist... she walks in, looks at my 5 x-rays on the screen, looks in my mouth (with no equipment or prodding) and just starts calling off teeth numbers to the nurse. And then we briefly chat, and that was that. Someone else then came in and took a scan of my teeth. He was very nice and afterwards, we talked about how Invislign GO could be a good option for me. And I said maybe, but my main goal today is to get this tooth fixed. Next up, the hygienist... At this point, it's almost 4 PM... Mind you, I got here at 2:15 (and got seated for x-rays shortly after). Right as I sit down, she looks in my mouth - takes gum measurements (which I'm guessing she recorded in her head, because she never rattled off the numbers to anyone) and recommends I get a deep cleaning. Then the lady handling my insurance walks over with 3 quotes... Invislign, deep cleaning and the work for my teeth. After we discuss my insurance, and how I don't want to pay over $200 for a deep cleaning and just wanted the basic cleaning with my filling, she went away and the hygienist came back and, I kid you not, did a 12-15 minute basic cleaning, and then handed me a mirror and said, "See, I did a good job, right?" - I held the mirror while looking at my teeth and said, "Yeah... nice job". She brings me back to the seat - no mouth rinse or anything, and I sit for a few minutes. And then, someone walks over, and tells me there is no more time to actually get my tooth fixed. And I have to come back another time when they aren't so busy... At this point, I'm a bit angry, I walked to the front desk, and asked, "What exactly did we do here today?". I could continue... but, let me just end it here and say, don't come here. 2+ hours later, and nothing was fixed or even looked at. And they suggested a partial crown, without even looking at my teeth closely. Never did the dentist sit down and open my mouth with any type of pick or instrument, to check anything! AND, they try to charge you over 200 out of pocket for a deep cleaning... which, wasn't actually necessary for me. My gums are pretty healthy (stated by the new dentist), I just need to floss better (stop using the picks, and use actual floss). I will say, they called me back after and tried booking me another appointment, but I respectfully declined at that point. My gut said they were just trying to get me in for the insurance money and the care wouldn't be great. OH, also, the same lady negotiated with me on my quotes and said she would take off the charge for the numbing agent for the deep cleaning. It honestly felt like I was at a car dealership. Yes, they were nice. But, I would not recommend coming here if you're looking for an honest place to take have your teeth properly taken care of. read more

After coming into this dental practice, I have to share my amazing experience with Dr.Shah. I had both my root canals done years ago with another dentist office and sadly it wasn't fixed properly which caused my crown to come loose and fall out often. This last time when the crown fell, my actual tooth came out with it. When I came for my examination with Dr Shah, her entire team were all so helpful, knowledgeable, and completely compassionate. Unfortunately I had to get implants from the previous root canal that I had. I wish I had met with them sooner or even gone to this dental practice from the beginning.
