While cleaning my teeth the doctor kept pushing me to do my filling I figure I trusted them when I mention to them my teeth feel fine. Because of their careless mistake and trying to make money from my guardian dental insurance I have been in pain for 3 weeks. Now I have to do a root canal now my tooth is dead and no more feeling. I'm writing this review way after leaving this dentist two years ago. I was at Family Fun Dental for 10+ years, mainly because for convenience. My mom and brother also went here. I've had Dr. Olivia and then Dr. Hung when I was older. Pretty much most of the reviews on this page summed up my experiences. 1) Methods were outdated while I was there - maybe it's changed now. 2) I felt rushed with the appointments, and the dentists didn't seem to care about your dental health. It was just a cleaning and then I was rushed out. No comments about what I needed to do better, etc. Even the dental clinic students at the local college would tell me their professional opinion on my teeth and even tried to make small talk with me. 3) Poor customer service. When I switched dentists, the new office made several attempts to connect with Family Fun Dental to get my x-rays sent over but with no success. read more

She is such a talented doctor because she knows how to calm the kids and works very fast on each progress so they don't get upset and stressful during the procedure! Writing this review very long thereafter leaving, but it seems like all points are valid up to this day. I went to this dentist for a majority of my youth (ages 9-15) because of ease of accessibility and their "sell" to my parents. Everything I had assumed of dentists was because of this establishment. Everyone from the receptionist to the dental assistants and even the dentists themselves are cold, unresponsive, and have an abhorrent lack of compassion. Their constant use of papoose boards is very (excuse the pun) very overboard. They restrain patients even if they do not pose a threat to the dental assistants and doctors. Dr. Olivia herself is probably the least compassionate and rude doctor I've ever had. She comes in last during the process and finishes up as quickly as she can, sometimes without explanation. She is quick to dismiss patient questions and does not bother to explain in depth to parents what things are for and why they are necessary. The whole environment of this establishment is extremely uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Please do yourself a favor and bring your kids and your family to another dentist. read more

I remember when this office used to be 'Tooth Fairy Dental'. I went to this dentist as a kid about 14 years ago and I have vivid memories of being strapped down for extractions screaming and crying as they would shut the down and make my mom wait outside as they strapped my down in tears. I'm a grown adult now and my body still has a nervous reaction to the dentist because of this horrible dentist. If you care about your kids absolutely DO NOT bring your kid to this dentist. No one should ever be working with kids let alone their HEALTH if they don't have the internal resources or capacity to calm them down before doing an invasive medical procedure on them. I can say with absolutely confidence that I will never bring anyone I love here. You can change the name of your office, but the children you impact will never forget the pain and trauma this office has inflicted. Don't come here unless you want your kids to get an unprofessional work done. My friend's child was prescribed a 500mg of antibiotics instead of 250mg, she is only 2 years old. Imagine if the pharmacist did not tell her that she has to come back with a new prescription from the dentist. **This review is long, but 100% honest to my experience.** I used to be a patient of this husband and wife team for years. The practice is actually a family dentistry that also specializes in pediatrics and some cosmetic and simple surgical procedures. If you ever pick up local Vietnamese magazines, you may notice ads featuring glamour shots of some lady dressed up as the Tooth Fairy. Sometimes she holds a wand, sometimes they crop pictures of random children and place them at her feet. Often, she is in a puffy ballgown with a tiara in her hair. Yeah... that's Dr. Olivia. I kid you not. So, aside from the strange ads, what are my real qualms? 1) Their current office is a bit better than the old, but still looks creepy and unprofessional. Literally hundreds of plush daisies are tied up everywhere (you know, the stuffed animal kind you can buy at an Albertson's florist for $1.99... with the happy face centers). Last time I was there, the rooms are covered in weird florescent cartoon murals. It was like being on an acid trip, but not nearly as fun. 2) They cram patients in. It is not unheard of to be there for several hours, or to be rushed out. 3) Their methods are extremely dated. If you want a mouth full of ugly silver that will fall off, come here. Not only are their methods old, the docs here don't have much technique, nor do they seem to care to. Once, I was told that I had to have 2 teeth removed. Just before letting me get up, Dr. Olivia said she was going to yank out a third one. Then she and two assistants hovered over me, held me down, and proceeded to yank out the third tooth. WELL, SHE BROKE THAT TOOTH INTO PIECES AND HAD TO KEEP GOING BACK AND DIGGING PARTS OF IT OUT! I remember being so scared and looking to my mom in the doorway. She was cringing because there was blood everywhere and you could hear my teeth cracking under all that force. I was about 14 or 15 at that time. It was awful. And it wasn't the only time she broke teeth while pulling them out of me. 4) They are not above over-diagnosing you on purpose, particularly Dr. Hung An. Vietnamese immigrants who feel limited on options often think that they are getting deals because offices like this claim to "work the system in their favor." In reality, they may subject you to treatments you don't need in order to cash in on insurance, consequently doing serious damage to your mouth and jaw. I was told by Dr. Olivia and Dr. Hung An that I ABSOLUTELY had to have surgery to take out wisdom teeth at 14. This was strange because I didn't feel anything growing, and I was still pretty young. They called in an oral surgeon friend of theirs who was personable enough, but who kept me awake during the whole procedure. It was really terrifying to watch someone go into my mouth with a scalpel just to "cut a little bit and see if it was really numb." Years later, when I was 22, I began feeling a lot of discomfort in my mouth. My current dentist was the one to tell me that I had 4 wisdom teeth growing in. We still don't know what on earth that former procedure was for. 5) They are not honest with you about your dental health. Approach #1 is to completely ignore you when you are sitting there, concerned and asking. They will literally just shush you, whisper to each other, and pretend they don't hear you. Dr. Olivia will sometimes use a sing-song voice and tell you half-truths, even if you are college age. Approach #2 is to flat-out suggest that your situation is worse than it is. Her husband really seems to fancy that. 6) Avoid Dr. Hung An if you can. He is aggressive and seems to have anger issues. My cousin and I used to call him "the masochist." He will snap at you to be quiet if you try to speak up and annoy him during your treatment. And once he gives you a cleaning, your whole mouth will be in pain for at least several days. Hate to spill the beans, but someone's got to do it. Maybe this is what happens when people feel pressured to become doctors? read more

Lets be honest, going to the dentist is never something any one wants to do, especially as a kid. The horrors of having sharp metal things drilling holes in your mouth can leave a child traumatized. That's why I appreciate businesses who cater to children so much. They bite the bullet for so many other places who avoid children at all costs. It's not an easy sell as anyone with kids can tell you, they are a finicky bunch. In my experiences here, Dr. Olivia was very attentive and patient. She explained every procedure clearly and got us in and out in a timely manner. The abundant toys, bright colors, and such around the office provided a delightful distraction to what would have been an unpleasant tooth removal. Truth be told, there were a few tears, but a sticker, balloon, and hug from the doctor made all that better and forgotten. I went here at the recommendation of my own mother and found my experience totally different from others on yelp. I really liked my experience here and would very much recommend it to anyone looking for a dentist in the area! So why only 4/5? They're dentists, not sunshine rainbow unicorn trainers giving out money! Just kidding. I went on a fairly busy day and felt that a few sessions were running long, pushing my appointment back 5 minutes or so. The people in the front were very apologetic about the delay which was fine. I going to have to disagree with MN P. on his review. My experience wasn't as horrifying as his. First of all, you do walk into an office overly decorated with plush and toys, but Dr. Olivia's primary target are children and toddlers, which is a good heads up for a child, like my daughter who's 3. So yes, for a teenager who is 14 - 15 years old, the plush flowers, flourescent walls and cartoon murals would be a bit disturbing. Perhaps you should have gone to a regualar dentist. Maybe they have improved their services in the past 7 years. I walked in and yes, there were other patients waiting to be seen and there were kids being seen, but my overall wait was about 10 - 15 minutes. Which I think is pretty good, because I've waited longer in other places. We were accommodated the moment we first walked in and already had our insurance info readily available. I guess they have a good front office staff that is knowledgable in insurance issues. I will have to agree about being rushed out, because for a first visit, we were there no more than 30 minutes (that included the wait). Not a very detailed consultation, which I expected for a first visit. I felt their methods were pretty up to date. Their x-ray system was (to me) very updated. All computerized. Not the old school way, where they stuck square film things in your mouth, took the x-ray and get it developed. Their system, was simple. A contraption in the mouth, a zap and bam, the x-ray appeared on the computer screen! My dentist doesn't have that! The dental assistant cleaned my daughters teeth with the help of another assistant to calm her down. Yes, at this point she was crying. Which I expected for a 3 year old. So why my 2 star rating? Because honestly, I've had better service from other doctors. I have to admit, the front office staff was nice and seemed to know what they were doing and the dental staff did a great job tyring to calm my daughter (to no avail and I'm not blaming them for that). The environment was strictly for pediatric aged clients (which I will give them 2 thumbs up for that), so for a kid I think it's a nod for the brightness and colorfulness. I am gonna have to say that Dr. Olivia's mannerisms were VERY POOR. Not once did she acknowlege me (not even a hello or a smile!). She walked right in, looked at the computer screen, asked my daughter's name, came a little closer, looked at her teeth (not examined, but looked) and said "she has nice teeth" and walked away. She didn't even introduced herself (which is what most doctors do, right?). For a fist visit I was expecting some sort of consultation, or at least be bubbly enough to entertain my 3 year old to releive her fears. I mean, she is a pediatric dentist, right? I envision a doctor walking in, being bubbly and overly nice, trying to entertain a child, easing up their fears (I assume all kids freak out at the dental office) by calming her down. My impression of Dr. Olivia: it's just a business to her. No patient care of some sort. Just a job. So, that is why I rated the office 2 stars. read more

Took my kid here, she use a body straps to strap his head body and hands down like a prisoner. She then gave him the numbing shot to his gum and bent the needle, the kid was crying soo hard because he was in terrible pain. She then use the same needle n forcefully administered another one on the opposite side. Omg she is soo rough with kids. She was not gentle with kids at all. Being an adult and seeing how she treat these kids, oh man even I am scared to go to her. I would not recommend anyone to take their children here. To be honest, I don't know why Dr. Olivia Lan Huong is a pediatric dentist. She doesn't even like kids! I used to see her when I was very young. I still remember being strapped down on the table and it was probably the most horrifying experience I've had as a kid. She suggested that I have a root canal done. In college when I visited another dentist, I was told that the root canal job done before was sloppy and caused an infection. I had to REDO the root canal. This time around, the root canal was close to painless. I remember crying and screaming from the pain as a child. Even though I was young, I don't think any procedure should be THAT uncomfortable. I don't think she uses anesthesia properly. Dr. Olivia DOES NOT CARE if your child is in pain. Stay away from this practice! Don't fall for the creepy fairy tooth lady advertisements. read more
