After COVID put everything thing on hold, we were excited to get an opportunity to do this again. We were so happy we chose the Baker House in Rhinebeck for our stay. The B&B is located within walking distance of the center of town which makes it very convenient to avoid driving or worry about getting an Uber after a night in town. The house is beautiful and sits on a sizable property. Our hosts have done a wonderful job of renovating the house and grounds. We stayed in the 'Writer's Room's which was so spacious it should be called the 'Writer's Suite'. The room also had it's own private porch/deck. The bathroom was clean and had a large double shower. The room was such an oasis of relaxation for our stay. George and Sandra were wonderful hosts and offered nice additional touches. There was a happy hour and George provided some delicious cocktails each night as well as good conversation. Sandra's breakfasts were yummy. We appreciated their insight as far as where to eat and places to see in town. After a few years of not traveling, it was great to have such a positive experience to remind us how wonderful travel could be.

The…read moreinn was clearly a motel in a previous life, as it had that lengthy structure with outdoor entrances to each room. The parking lot was gravel-based, so vehicles were parked a bit haphazardly, but the lot's spaciousness ensured that it was not really an issue. The hotel was right on the stream with a lovely grassy area dotted with Adirondack chairs, hammocks, and other ways to enjoy the view. The office was located right next to that little park and was also where the continental buffet breakfast was served. The small room had a great view of the water from its few tables. The breakfast options included various hot beverages, several types of milk, yogurt, berries, granola, pastries, breads, hard-boiled eggs, lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. It was really the perfect few bites to start the day with energy and wellness. While the inn had a few larger cabins, many of the rooms were supposedly rather tiny, including ours. The room had a queen-sized bed, nightstand, wall-mounted television, and wooden desk with matching chair. There was a closet with some hanging and shelving space, as well as a hair dryer and coffeemaker. The room really left a lot to be desired from a space perspective, as it was hard to navigate. For instance, the room might have come with 2 luggage racks, but there was really only space for one. The bathroom was also tiny, and it was near impossible to use the toilet without sideswiping the pedestal sink on your way. The shower was a decent size at least. The bathroom came with fluffy towels and Aveda products, which were both appreciated. We also loved that the temperature and pressure of the water were phenomenal; in fact, the shower was like a fire hose! Though the room was small, it was SPOTLESS! Also, its individual heater packed a great deal of warmth. There was not an abundance of electrical outlets, but the alarm clock had one built in, as well as two USB ports. The extremely gracious staff had also left a binder of local recommendations for us on the table. The bed, however, was lumpy, and the pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. From a location standpoint, the inn was only a few blocks from either end of town, depending on which way you wanted to travel. The residential roads were very dark at night and many did not have sidewalks, so we definitely needed to be alert walking to and from the main drag, even though we knew the town was overly safe. The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream made up for its lack of amenities and small rooms with efficient, friendly service and clear dedication to guest satisfaction.

Bed but no breakfast…read more We stayed in colonial Kingston for a conference and planned on staying for 3 nights, however we soon realized how terrible a host Bel, the innkeeper was. Upon arrival Bel assumed we drove to Kingston. I'm not sure why this assumption was made as there is a train station in the neighboring town which takes you directly to Manhattan. Rather than giving us the room we agreed upon via telephone, she put us in a creepy room not attached to the same building: actually it which was several blocks away from the main inn. Because we had no car, she squeezed us into her filthy pick-up truck and dropped us off and rushed out. No mention of what time and where breakfast was served. We were not provided any breakfast the morning after our first night's stay and she did not answer her phone around 7:00 a.m. when we wondered about this. This was confusing as the inn is marketed as a "Bed and Breakfast". We found our own breakfast and went on with our day. When we returned to our room in the evening, our room was not made. It was shocking as this is standard practice among the hotel industry regardless of whether you stay at a lower end BnB or at a high-end hotel. By then we were disgusted at how unprofessional she was and thus we told her we would only stay 2 nights (over 24 hours notice). By the second morning we called her inquiring about breakfast a second time. She simply replied by saying "well I can feed you if you want". How unprofessional and unwelcoming. Why run an inn if you do not want to welcome your guests? Although we gave her over 24 hours notice of our departure (again, the standard in the hotel industry) Bel still unjustly charged us for the third unused night. She also failed to give us our receipt, and we had to ask her 5 times for it. Only 3 days post-departure did we receive the receipt. After reviewing my banking, she had actually already charged the room prior to check-in. I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.

My room had a king poster board bed and one of the comfiest mattresses I've ever slept on. I can't say more good things about this place. But if you want a nice place to hang your hat, where you make a friend in the end Bels inn is where it's at. Excellent service, she's knowledgable about the town and places to go. It's the perfect getaway to de-stress and unwind meet amazing people and enjoy life, what was exactly what I needed. The prices are very reasonable and worth every penny! I'll be back very soon! There was a group of lively people going in and out of the building. They offered to take our picture and they told us they were staying at the light house. STAYING!? Yes. Staying , as in sleeping in beds inside; using the facility ... SPENDING the night. Wow. I needed to find out how to do this. Later on I joined their email list... And forgot about it. Fast forward to last summer. I got an email at 9:03am from the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy informing me that next week- they had a cancellation and and opening for a single night's stay. That room was booked at 9:08! And my husband, the Fast n Furious franchise lover- the "I only tolerate nature walks" guy was, unbeknownst to him about to spend the night... in a light house. Begrudgingly. Drive up. Park in the small lot and walk though the fence which leads to a trail. The hike is short but time your arrival with the tide , or you may have to wade though some of the river water. The building is historic so History buffs would love it. The stairs have a pleasant creak to them. The living room has books about the area. The hall upstairs has a shelf with more books and games for Kids. No phones or televisions. Heaven. There is a room designated as a small Museum which documents the history Of the lighthouse. Our guest room was enough. We had two different window exposures, one of them looking right over the river. The bed was only a full size - a bit cramped for a big guy and his wife. But hey! I am sleeping in lighthouse sooo I don't care. There is a gracious innkeeper who lives onsite in a separated part of the house. The back deck is boat shaped and has a series of beautiful wood tables over looking the Hudson River. It was mid- afternoon and we had the place all to ourselves when we checked in. We had packed a lunch for the patio. The day was beautiful. When you sleep in a lighthouse you get a key. It gives you access to the house and the ladder which leads up to the actual light and the 360 degree views of the area. Nearing sunset, We climbed up and were able to look down at people who were on the deck. Some of them looked up at us confused as if wondering how we got up there? We had the key! It was a beautiful sunset. I stayed up In the glass enclosure until the light turned on. Since our room windows were huge and we left the shades up, I awoke at dawn and to the sound of the waves lapping outside. A few minutes later I heard voices and when I looked outside there were some fisherman passing very close to us in a small boat. So close I could have had a conversation with them from my window. The innkeeper cooked us a breakfast of French Toast with strawberries, eggs, juice and coffee. It was just all so pleasant and quaint that I didn't want it to end. We had to checkout two hours early because my husband had to get to work. Overall I loved every minute of it. I slept in a Lighthouse. I can't believe I got the chance.

My darling boyfriend surprised me with an impromptu weekend trip to the beautiful Saugerties Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast a few weeks ago. He'd been stalking their website months prior, never finding any openings, but alas, thanks to a last minute cancellation and some impeccable timing, he was able to snag a night for us at this charming BB. The lighthouse only operates as a BB on Thurs-Sunday, and it's open all year round. Reservations must be made months in advance so if you want to visit during a particular season, I suggest to start your planning two full seasons prior. The drive up was scenic and lovely. We downloaded some podcasts and had goggle maps lead the way. We chose to avoid tolls and that increased our ETA by 15 minutes but it was great, and only took about 2.5 hours to get there! The lighthouse has a shared fridge for its guests so we brought food with us for the stay, not knowing what to expect, but it turned out not to be necessary because we found some really great farmers markets along the way, and bought more food than we needed. The lighthouse also has a grill that guests can use, as well as nearby restaurant options. Make sure you bring your rain boots if you plan to go with the restaurant option for dinner, though. The tide comes in when the sun goes down so you'll have to waddle through some shallow water along the route from the lighthouse to the parking lot. It's pretty amazing to see, so also make sure to bring your flashlight, too! We also saw huge, gigantic boats glide right by our room at all hours of the day. They were incredibly close, I felt like I could almost touch them from the window. And listening to the waves crashing down as I fell asleep was truly entrancing. Breakfast was amazing, too. The inn-keeper made us the most delicious French toast, yogurt with fresh organic strawberries and fresh tapped maple syrup with fresh squeezed orange juice. The bathroom was the only feature that I would change. Don't get me wrong, it's very clean and I love the products they use; all natural shampoos, soaps and conditioners, but they use stored rain water for the sink and showers, and don't have a flush toilet... But then again, maybe that's all part of the charm. I loved every minute I spent up here with my best friend.

(As the owner, it would have been appropriate for him to introduce himself, as I was the only guest there. And ask how everything is. But I know why he didn't. He is likely tired of hearing complaints.) My first sign of discomfort was the musty smell in the entryway. I found my welcome packet on the desk with my first and last name and room displayed on the front. I saw another guest's packet there too; having my information displayed that way was a bit unnerving, especially as a solo female traveler. (Perhaps assign each guest a code and only write that on the envelope.) As I walked to the room, the hallway was completely dark, so I used my cell phone flashlight to find my way. My room (Sage Left) was "quaint."Despite the fake fingernail found on the ledge behind the hand towel, the clump of black hair in the shower, the body hair on the toilet, and the bed that felt like rocks. But I was determined to make the best of things. I tried to open the door to the outdoor area; I tried to. I had to pull weeds away from it first. I sat down on the red lounge chair and looked out at overgrown bushes and weeds. I took in the rest of the space and saw propane containers stored under plants. Since the restaurant isn't open until Friday, I had to eat lunch and dinner off-site. I also bought bottles of water since there weren't any in the room and the water cooler jug was empty during my stay. (If an alternate water source was available, I did not see one.) Using the TV was frustrating, and I gave up. I took a walk on the grounds and was astonished at how neglected everything is. Dead plants, weeds, and broken path stones were everywhere. The outdoor furniture is either rusted or needs power washing. The overall feeling is gloomy. I had to leave the premises on Wednesday because it was incredibly depressing. (Think "Grey Gardens") Thursday morning, I was quite down about my experience, and it was affecting me physically. At breakfast, Alicia, the breakfast chef, noticed my discomfort; she listened to some of my issues and explained that only a skeleton crew is trying to keep the Inn going. (She is a true gem, by the way.) My spa services were good. Despite the loud noise coming from the water pipe, I found the "temporary" spa nice. I only wish it were open before Thursday. I called Buttermilk to cancel 2 days before check-in, but I made my reservation through Expedia, and I couldn't cancel or modify my booking under their policy. I also contacted them on the day of my arrival. They misrepresented the property: the "river view" room I booked, the claim that there is afternoon tea, bottles of water in the room, and that the on-site restaurant is open during the week. Do not be fooled by the pictures on their website or social media. They are years old and mostly professional photographs with lighting, flowers, and decorations for special events.

We sat for over 40 minutes after we recieved our initial order and not one waitstaff came over to ask if we wanted anything else, nor did they come over to give us the check. After giving up hope of dessert and more tea, we eventually went to the front counter to pay since we realized no one was coming to give us the bill. Normally, I would understand if it was understaffed or busy- yet the two parties next to us had waitstaff come over numerous times. We were literally ignored. We won't be back and I do not recommend.
