I wish Yelp offered no stars or negative stars. This place, the separate Carriage House, in particular, was so bad we considered just sleeping in our truck instead. There was a cloying smell permeating the building that did not dissipate despite open windows all night (in 27° weather). The furniture is shabby and uncomfortable. There are klieg lights alongside every window upstairs, so you can't sleep. It really is right on 209 and they know it's noisy because they said they offer their guests earplugs! (Which they never actually did.) The only bright spot were the linens, which were actually quite nice. More than all that, the owners are unavailable and really (really - believe the other reviews) don't care. They are not reachable and Chef Marc is very nice but can't do anything for you. We had to leave, not because it was hell to be there, but because of a sudden family medical emergency, and they refused to even refund us down to their 3-night minimum. We had paid in advance for 8 nights - and just the previous day, so it wasn't like anyone else would have booked it. We understood that they would want their minimum stay and cleaning fee. But they didn't refund us one penny. They are really unfeeling, uncaring people. Avoid this place!!! read more

Where do I start. Chief Kim heard my sons call desperate after the ice storm prevented our family staying at our original location due to loss of power and heat. Chief Mark opened the inn and saved the family reunion weekend but most importantly provided safe shelter that 1st night for my 8 month old granddaughter son daughter in law and daughter. We joined after being stuck in original location. The inn itself is simply amazing. With the 1770 bedrooms with very comfortable beds and a new lounge and eating area. The inn as Sonos speakers throughout that's fun with great Sonos sound, chess and great conversational setting. The grounds even on a cold day provides a safe open pit fire and very private. Chief Mark is an outstanding culinarily artist. The breakfast of berry compote and egg in a nest was yummy. I would have taken a photo but for chief Mark engaging in conversation on our comfort and enjoyment for the stay. What a fantastic host. The location is close to everything. We stayed here a few nights ago and couldn't have been more delighted. The Inn is absolutely gorgeous and when we arrived we found a few homemade treats awaiting us in our beautiful room. The room was extremely well appointed BTW. We had a lovely night sleep and breakfast served to us by the owner Marc was outstanding and so elegant. Breakfast is served at 9:00 and they also have tea and coffee for you anytime in a fun bar area. Very comfortable and enchanting stay for our family of three. read more

Came here for our elopement. Can't say enough great things about the inn. There was going to be a snow storm on the day we were to have the ceremony and the owners Mark and Kim were so flexible and helpful. The inn is beautiful and exactly the look we were going for. We chose the couple only elopement package and everything was very romantic and intimate. Very glad we chose the Elmrock Inn for our big day. Also the food here is beyond amazing. You can tell Mark really enjoys what he does and tries to get all his ingredients from local sources. They are also very knowledgeable about the area. Definitely recommend to people who are interested in elopements, regular weddings, or looking to have a quiet romantic get away. read more

I was literally in the process of booking my 9.19.20 wedding date with Kimberly at ElmRock Inn. She knew about my situation with Covid -- how my big wedding was ruined due to the pandemic -- and also knew how excited I was to proceed with them. We were in the middle of revising the proposal when I get an email from her that she booked another event on the date we wanted to get married. She asked if I had any flexibility and since I have a photographer, hair, makeup, and florist I don't. This was sincerely so unprofessional and so disappointing. Charming bed and breakfast if you are exploring the region. The breakfast is very good but with too much emphasis on fat, sugar and salt. The cookies they leave in the room are beyond outstanding, and you can get tea any time of day. There are also lots of books and magazines around, which is a nice respite from television. There was wifi, but I didn't use it much. I was the only one in the house during my stay so that felt a little lonesome (the owners don't appear to live on the premesis) but it is nicely renovated and comfortable. Weirdly there were over a dozen lovingly upholstered pillows on my bed, so there was no room for me to sleep in the bed unless I moved at least some of them to the floor, which felt kind of wrong, but there was no where else to put them. The shower was just a stall with a curtain, nothing fancy. I think the main dining room, which is huge, would be lovely for a rehearsal dinner or small wedding reception. It's on a main road, so it's easy to find. read more

Thin walls=loud sex. The couple in the room next to us had loud sex all night long. The house is very old and walls are thin. I complained the next morning and said we couldn't spend another night without sleep and wanted to go home. The manager said she didn't want us to be unhappy and would actually contact the owners (away in Mexico) to settle it. I said no, don't bother them out of the country, we'll wait. I thought it was going to be resolved. It was not. There was a huge miscommunication and they refused to credit us for the last night. I've never stayed in a place and had to put up with such gross noises. RENTER BEWARE read more

BEWARE BRIDES ...Our daughter was planning on having the "Wedding Weekend Buyout" on Jun 12, 2021. She and her then fiancé signed the contract on Jan. 2020. All the deposits were made as stipulated in the contract by the bride's dad totaling $10,500. Kimberly was called in Jan. 2021 explaining the unforeseen circumstances requiring the cancellation of the wedding. She said she would try to rebook the date. In late May she said she was only able to book the rooms and refunded $3,000. Elm Rock had NOT spent a penny on ANYTHING preparing for this event. They required all the money to be paid six months prior to the event (most wedding venues require a deposit upon booking and final payment near the event date). How can you in good conscience keep $7,500 for ZERO EXPENSE? This is unethical, unfair, and unreasonable . No one expects to cancel their wedding. My girlfriend and I stayed at the Elm Rock Inn for one night during our holiday break and it was just what we needed. The Inn was very clean and warm. Easy to find. Our bed was huge and so comfortable. Despite what I read on some other reviews, the road out front was not that busy. Our room was upstairs and right near the road but I slept so well. Breakfast in the morning was perfect. I would have liked another helping but....We could tell that the food was fresh and organic. Highly recommended!!! read more

The beautiful large landscaped lawns and luscious plantings set a high standard for the Inn. There are few staff, so pretty much everything is self-serve. On wandering through the large entry hall and seeing no-one I climbed a stair where a charming woman helped with my luggage and showed me my room, named "Toile" on the plastic rectangle attached to the key. It's a tenet in the hotel industry that one large mistake draws the guest to find others that may otherwise have been overlooked. That was my experience. I couldn't lock the door. The cheap surface-mount Yale lock's tongue was retracted and jammed. On leaving to find an evening meal in the village, the man working a laptop in the entry hall confirmed he was the boss and team leader. I told him about the lock, gave him the key, and suggested the lock be changed (these Yale locks are very easy to remove). When I returned about an hour later, no-one was around and the office was closed. The key was now in the lock and it was just as before. I slept with my bags against the door so any intruder would have to push hard to get in. The large, high-ceilinged room was shabby, with scuffed paint work and an old wide-wood floor crudely cleaned up and varnished. Amenities included two pairs of ear plugs. A good decision, because the room overlooks a very noisy highway. A half-moon window at floor level in the bathroom gives a good view of the highway. There's no avoiding watching the cars and trucks go by because there's no shade or drape. If you sit on the toilet you're lower down and square to the window, so it's a good idea not to switch on the light at night. There is a sink but no vanity. The mirror is set so that a six-footer must squat down a bit to get a full look at the face. There's more, all persnickety and none of it would have been mentioned if it weren't for the lock. Breakfast is offered at 9am at the beautifully set-up long trencher table in the great hall. I chose to leave instead. I didn't want to pretend all had been great to the only other guest or to whoever was serving the breakfast. read more

My boyfriend and I just came home from an exhilarating getaway, and it was mainly due to our wonderful stay at the Elm Rock Inn, conveniently located near the New Paltz & Rhinebeck areas. I was seeking a serene, quiet escape for my birthday, and this place delivered! Upon arrival, we were greeted by Hallie, who was extremely friendly and did not hesitate to give us suggestions of places to go in the area. He was, by far and wide, very helpful and nice to chat with. Plus, anyone who greets me with chocolate is an automatic winner in my book! We chose to stay in the Iris room, a.k.a., the largest room on the premises. It was all about size, between the enormous, king-sized, four poster bed and the equally gigantic bathroom! I honestly believe it was just under the size of my living room, not even kidding. Even the doors leading into the bathroom were big, as well. The tub was one of most awesome features in the room! It was a Jacuzzi brand tub, complete with jets. We made sure to take plenty advantage of that, as it was super relaxing. The room also had a really pretty fireplace and mantle. Granted, the fire aspect wasn't real, just a heat generated LED screen to give you the effect of sitting in front of the real thing. Hey, it did the job and was good enough for me! Besides, who needs the safety risk, right? Moving on to one of the best parts of the whole experience: BREAKFAST!!! Hallie provided us with a wholesome, healthy and most importantly, delicious breakfast! Everything was homemade, fresh, and kept us full and energized for hours. Each component was plated, beautifully, and very well presented. (I wish I took pictures!!) The portions were plentiful enough that we didn't need to eat lunch! Another plus side to breakfast was that it was served at a reasonable time, not too early, not too late. We didn't feel groggy while eating, and we didn't feel rushed, either. Plus, we had a lovely view of the grounds, which we walked later on that day. Everything was perfect, and I look forward to future visits! read more

Mark's outstanding guidance on what to see and where to eat made our stay over-the-top enjoyable, Mark and Kim go the extra mile to insure their guests are comfortable and entertained. WOW! What an incredibly special experience. The property itself is gorgeous-- dim little lamps lit the long pathway to the beautiful 1770's house, which made me fall in love immediately! The main dining room is gorgeous, with huge cathedral-style windows and tons of natural, old wood. The dining table is set perfectly, with a huge cabinet of vintage china in the background. The house itself is charming throughout. There's a bar on a balcony overlooking the dining room (gorgeous for a wedding or event) with various sitting areas that have books, couches, etc. in which to relax. The rooms are STUNNING-- I wish I had upgraded to get one of the big rooms with a fireplace, because WOW! They are breathtaking. Our room was still wonderful, though. I wish I knew how they were able to retain so much of the charm of the old house while still updating the house to be stylish and chic. A talent I've never mastered :) And the breakfast-- how could I forget? Mark made a gourmet breakfast that tasted fresh and out-of-this-world. No need for food until late in the day! He also left us treats in our room upon our arrival, and there's a keurig with coffee and tea on the second floor for whenever you need it. I can't recommend this place enough if you're in the area. A truly special, unique, and wonderful place. read more

Perfectly cook scrambled eggs, toast slathered with sweet creamery butter and local jam with freshly brewed coffee. Not what you would find here, but more about that later. We had a late check-in as the owners apparently leave by 5PM. Sounds more like an out than an inn. The Iris room appeared very nice with a 4-poster bed, couch, large hearth and spacious bathroom. We were completely exhausted so sleep was something that was mutually anticipated. In the morning, following falling aleep to the peaceful sounds of the cars passing by on country road Rt. 209 we looked forward to showering. There was no water pressure and washing to the drizzled mist of the water saving shower head was not invigorating but laborious. Now back to the breakfast that began at 9AM. We arrived to the table about 930ish with our raspberry crisp in a half pint mason jar and breakfast bacon and sausage already there. The breakfast was an egg strata with pieces of sausage and zucchini, a slice of cantaloupe and several cubes of watermelon. No options. The breakfast was poor. No breads, no scones, no muffins, no toast. A continental breakfast would have been appreciated more than a leftover, mish-mash of a made the night before egg dish. Coffee was dark and dingy. Kudos to the oatmeal cookie with a chocolate ganache to spread on top that was left in the room. We were never welcomed by the innkeepers. The only employee encountered being the young girl who delivered the eggs. The anticipation of a quaint, warm and welcoming atmosphere of a B&B was no where to be found. There must be some other accommodation unless counting cars on 209 is a tool utilized to gain sleep. We will not be staying here again. read more

We held our small wedding at ElmRock last year and it was so wonderful. They are just so easy to communicate and work with throughout the wedding preparation. We didn't encounter any hidden fee or other type of problem. The food at our reception dinner was just AMAZING!! Mark is such a great chief. We also enjoy their atmosphere and decoration a lot.
