These street tacos from A Mano were good. We have here one chicken and two beef. I preferred the chicken over the beef; the chicken had much more flavor and the toppings complimented the meat. The beefs were good too, but the chicken was top notch! The chicken taquitos were really good too, there was so much topping it was like having a salad with my taquitos! I recently started a deep dive of highly rated taco places in Willimantic, and A Mano Taco Shop is one of those places. A Mano has a different POV than the other Willimantic places I've tried so far. While the other taquerias I've tried are more or less traditional (Pastor, Bistec, etc. with cilantro, onions and a few other classic toppings), A Mano has a more modern and creative take on tacos. In terms of the Willimantic spots, A Mano is the most modern in terms of art and the space, which includes outside tables on a wood deck out front, and at least one small inside table. I'm not sure if they had additional seating in a different room or upstairs, but that's possible given the building design. I suspect they have a robust takeout business as well. I ordered a Pastor Taco, and a Sweet Potato Black Bean Taco. The corn tortillas were fresh made and very good. The tacos arrived with the small round tortillas mostly flat and side by side in a takeout container, and the toppings artfully displayed on top. The toppings were slightly different for each taco. The pastor taco had marinated pork, pineapple chunks, micro greens, and avocado based salsa. I ordered a Pastor taco at each Willimantic place. A Mano was the only one so far to feature pineapple chunks, which I really like for Pastor tacos. This sweetness was important for balancing the saltiness from the pastor. Without that sweetness, the flavors would have been out of balance. The pastor was tender. The avocado salsa was good. I like the use of microgreens for the color, shape and fresh flavor it brings. A definite way to distinguish your taco. I ordered the sweet potato black bean taco because I've never seen it on a menu and I was intrigued. I was expecting the sweet potatoes and black beans to be in pieces, but the presentation was actually puréed or at least stewed to a smooth texture. This taco was topped with the same micro greens and avocado salsa, but it had pickled red onions. This taco was well executed and looked great, but if I had known it was going to be puréed, I probably would have gone a different direction just based on personal preference. I like that A Mano has different toppings for different tacos. In addition to the above toppings, I noticed corn, cilantro, slaw, mango and more as different toppings on certain tacos. A Mano's menu features other cool things like Birria Ramen, Street Corn, loaded fries, churros, flan. It's definitely the type of menu you'd like to explore. Service was very friendly. Both service and the atmosphere are a factor in my 4.5 Star rating, which rounds up to 5 Stars. If I was just rating the tacos, the score would be 4.25 Stars. read more

This was a very cute lil taco shop where I caught up with a friend. You order at the counter and then sit at any table you want. There were plenty of upstairs seating with views of the outside. The tacos came out pretty small and bite size, but full of flavor. I got two tacos and the grilled plantains and was pretty satisfied after. Solid tacos, properly seasoned and good sized portions for the price. A very good taco shop. Back on the hunt for some good taco places. This one came on our radar as a solid place with some good eats, so we made the trek to try this place out. Getting to this location is a bit of a trek. There is street parking, but there's not a lot of spaces. There is a few parking spots in a lot right next door, but I don't know how many spots are available for this place. Going in, there's a couple seats for doordashers and a simple register. The cashier was kind and quick to answer questions. Being avid street taco people, we got one of each along with an order of their fish tacos. I also tacked on their elote and churros, because if we're getting some tacos we might as well get a good sampling. Food gets packaged up quickly and we are in-and-out in about 15 minutes. Not bad. While we waited, I went upstairs to scope out the main dining area. it's cozy, not a lot of covers but enough space to give yourself room to breathe. I took a quick pic and headed back downstairs to wait for our to-go order. Got to our destination, cracked open some packages, took some pics, then dug in. The elote corn was very solid. Creamy, salty, cheesy, and the corn was juicy and tender. Could've used a little spice, but still a very solid bite. The street tacos were very good as well. They seasoned their meats, almost to the cusp of being overseasoned on the pork carnitas. with a decent amount of veggies and properly seasoned meats, I was actually fine with there being no real sauce to help carry the tacos. the only thing about the street tacos was the shell was a little dense and a tad too thick. lead to a tougher bite than expected. For the fish tacos, the portion was fairly large. they took a pretty decent sized filet of cod and battered that up. threw it in the fryer and dressed it in an avocado aoli. I liked the thickness and softness of the tortilla they used, I liked the flavor, the batter was not too heavy and the fish was cooked to perfection. That was a very good fish taco. The churros were good, but by the time we got to them we were so full we couldn't really enjoy them. the chocolate sauce was good, a little bitter but the sugar from the churro really helped balance it out. Overall, a very good taco place. If you have a chance to hunt this place down then please do. It's not the best tacos I ever had, but it's the strongest around that area for sure read more

Generally had decent experiences with A Mano Taco shop in the past. Tonight, takeout order was missing 1 of 4 entrees. A call back to the restaurant yielded the response "we can credit you for the missing food or you can come pick it up." No offer to do anything other than food or refund. 30 minute round trip, picked up missing entree. Order complete. Food is ok. Wish the business well. Would have appreciated a free beverage or chips as an apology for the extra travel and missing dinner with my family. Now? Hard never again. Don't bother with a response. Good luck. read more

Today's lunch was A Mano Taco Shop. My lunch partner and I started by splitting orders of grilled plantains and street corn. Grilled plantains was easy to split as it was two slices of plantain with an even distribution of toppings. Very enjoyable starter. The toppings on the street corn were excellent, but the corn was overcooked. Our mains were the Quesa Birria Tacos and Crispy Fish Tacos. The Birria tacos had well balanced flavors especially when the pickled onions were added to the tacos then dipped in the consommé broth. The fish in the Crispy Fish Tacos was definitely crispy. Each bite had a delightful crunch and didn't have an overly oiled/greasy taste. The toppings tied in with the crispy fish and didn't make the fish soggy. The taco shells were not like any shells I've ever had. They were soft, felt delicate, and were a light complement for the ingredients placed inside. Well done Will definitely visit again. Came in with a large group on a Tuesday. Parking outside was a little limited but not impossible. The restaurant is two levels, with the counter downstairs and seating upstairs. It's very warm, modern, and inviting. The staff was very helpful in answering questions. We placed our food in various batches, and everything came out very quickly. Everything was amazing. I had a couple of the taco Tuesday chicken and tofu tacos plus a street corn. I also tried bites of loaded fries, a fish taco, and a quesadilla. We got 3 street tacos, one of each (carne asada, al pastor, and carnitas), quasa birria tacos and the plantains. All the food was very delicious and better than most of the tacos you'd get at other places that say they have tacos. Definitely recommend the Birria which comes with a big bowl of sauce to dip in which you'll love, The only thing that could've been better are the plantains, they we're still almost completely solid. All the pumpkin seeds and extra stuff on stuff made it watery and less about the plantain and more like a salad. We wanted to make a trip out to UConn dairy bar tonight so we wanted to find a localish spot to patron. A Mano DID NOT disappoint. Not sure where the recent negative review came from but we definitely don't agree! We had the elote corn cup, the fish tacos, quesa birria tacos, an el pastor taco, and a chicken and chorizo taco. Everything was SO good! I've been dying to try quesa birria somewhere and this did not disappoint. So flavorful, piping hot, and wonderful. The two gentleman working were fabulous. We had our baby in a stroller they offered us to park our stroller downstairs so we could go upstairs and enjoy their dining room which was nicely decorated and had great music playing. They brought our food and drinks right up to us. We also had the frozen tequila sunrise drinks which were strong and delicious! The recent review that they were out of guacamole was true but it said right on their menu it was sold out (and we also don't eat guacamole so we didn't care). VERY happy with our choice for dinner and will definitely return and recommend. I hope with college out for summer this business still does well because it deserves it. It is right by ECSU. We ordered several different street tacos as well as the Quesa Birria Tacos and Mexicali Salad. Everything was prepared to perfection, and we couldn't think of anything that could have improved the flavor. There was a the perfect amount of fat, salt, and spice! Went for tacos with my family! Such a cute place, loved the outdoor seating and the inside feel was great too. The setup was simple, clean and fun. We places our order, got a number and took a sit. They only have mild and hot salsa I believe, we asked for salsa verde and they did not have it. The chips were served cold and they didn't have any guacamole to serve. We got carne asada tacos, the meat was lacking seasonings and didn't have flavor. The corn tortillas were extremely soggy. We had the birria tacos, again lacking flavor. The only seasoning I could taste was pure salt, also the consume just tasted like saltwater. For positive, I will say the tortillas for the birria tacos were grilled nicely and crunchy. Arrived at the location 8/26 around 8 pm. Male host was prepping drinks for customers. Male host Acknowledged me as he walked away with drinks. After returning male host proceeds to clean the area, went outside to inquire on party of 1.. still has not seated me .. larger party proceeds to exit from their dinner. He engages in conversation with them . I waited 7 mins at this restaurant without a proper acknowledgement and was not seated. I am so happy that I found this place! My husband is from the West Coast and seriously misses good burritos and tacos, which are pretty hard to find out here.
