He set up the inspection that we requested, answered my numerous questions, and took time to explain the whole process from the old fireplace removal to the new fireplace installation. He was so helpful in sending photos, diagrams, a detailed report, links to information, and problem-solving. The inspection report was meticulously and professionally done. The inspection helped us to understand the extent of our chimney damage and consider options for replacement and to have information for us to submit to our insurance. The inspection also showed that our chase was damaged. We had the chase repaired first before proceeding with the vented fireplace replacement. The gas log set is beautiful! This company specializes in very expensive written estimates to do completely unnecessary work. They make you wait for months and then do nothing. Their technicians work on a commission basis and are looking for the big score. They have no intention of cleaning your chimney or anything else. They use scare tactics to try to sell you something you do not need. We had a bird nest in our chimney we wanted removed and the chimney cleaned. We were told they couldn't clean the chimney without putting on their nuclear radiation suits because of bird mites and that our house would be contaminated with bird mites. Total B.S. ! They said what we really needed was to rebuild the chimney at a cost of $7,000. They gave me a bill for $180.00 for the estimate and were on their way. Nothing was done! They are not licensed plumbers and should not be installing gas logs and piping. Not a reputable business anymore. Very disappointed. read more

They went to my parents home (87 & 90 years old) to sweep out their long dryer vents. All they did was take pictures and give them an extremely expensive quote. They charged them $249 just for that! Told them they needed to rebuild the entire vents or else it would start a fire on them (scare tactics!!). My husband went and checked it out and ended up cleaning it out and reassembled everything and its fine now. I think $249 is excessive for just going out and looking at it w pictures. I feel they took advantage of my elderly parents. UPDATE: WE SPOKE WITH NORMAN SMITH, THE OWNER, AND HE AGREED $249 WAS EXCESSIVE, THAT THEIR NORMAL SEVICE FEE IS $125. We had our chimney cleaned a few years ago and forgot about it. This past year, we noticed a lot of air coming in the chimney and called to get it cleaned. Mr. Norman made the appointment and his crew showed up to start the cleaning. While on the roof, they noticed a few things and asked me when we had the fireplace installed. I said it was about 6 years ago by the contractor. They said that the cowl on the stack was not the correct one and would allow rain and wind in. I asked where I could get a proper one, and they said they would be happy to take pictures and dimensions and order one for me. We also capped older chimney stacks on the roof, that were open to the elements. We had a few delays with the weather, but Mr. Norman always called to let me know ahead of time. They are professional, courteous and honest. That's a tough combination to find in New Orleans these days. read more

Over the course of several months, we went through a very frustrating and confusing process with this company. Initially we hired them to clean our chimneys and to assess any maintenance or repairs that may be required. I was very clear with Norman - I wanted safe and functional fireplaces in our newly purchased 80+ year old home. No more or less. After several inspections, over $1000 in cost, and a basic cleaning of our chimneys, I was provided a quote of over $32k for just one chimney. Despite multiple inspections, I was not provided a quote on the two additional chimneys as agreed upon when inspections were done. The cleaning resulted in the main fireplace not being properly covered which resulted in soot throughout my home. A complete disaster and unnecessary and such a basic mistake that never should have happened. Further, when consulting an experienced and trusted contractor that no longer does this type of work, I learned that the work recommended was not necessary and if it was done, should have been quoted at a fraction of the cost. I strongly advise not using this company and if you have them quote work, make sure to get a second opinion. I have no doubt that Norman is extremely knowledgeable in his field of expertise but I am certain that unnecessary and exorbitantly priced work was proposed. read more

Hired Norman and team to inspect the fireplace and chimney. The second they showed up all they asked was "am I paying with a credit card or check?". I was turned off by that. Literally as soon as they looked at my fireplace they said, well it looks like we're gonna have to replace this one. The whole purpose that I hired them was to actually respect the process of trying to restore the chimney and it appeared it was never given a chance to do so. I may be wrong but my feeling is that I was simply looked at as a dollar sign to them. The price to replace the prefab fireplace was not cheap either. read more

This company is fantastic! I needed gas logs installed in my fireplace. I'm a pretty big DIYer and considered doing it myself as there was already a gas line and log lighter there...but I'm not a big fan of my homeowners being revoke because I screwed something up with a gas installation. Sooo... I called my plumber and they were backlogged due to people's pipes bursting in the hard freeze. This was the ONLY listing I found online that said they did gas log installation. I called and left a message and Norman called me back within a couple hours. He was out on a call and was able to come the same night! He gave me the price upfront, called before he came, and installed the whole thing quickly and perfectly. These guys are the gang that cannot shoot straight. Showed up to give us a quote the clean the chimney and replace a heat exchanger. Nice guy but a bit of a mess. Very confused and disorganized. Trys to use an ipad but struggles. He scheduled the inspection for early in the day and then kept calling to push it back from early morning to late in the day. That was a red flag. These guys do not show up when scheduled. Then he calls up on the day of the cleaning (late in the day) to say there has been an industrial accident. Yikes. So we reschedule for today at 9:30. His son shows up at 4:30PM and says he cannot do the job because it is a two man job which is what his father already knew. I told him to pack his ladder and I would go find someone else. Even though my inquiry was sent well after 4pm, I received an email response from Mr. Norman Smith very quickly, that same evening. I really appreciate that kind of prompt responsiveness. Mr. Smith and I spoke by telephone the next day, and in no time flat, we'd set an appointment for the inspection...that same day! I did not attend the inspection, but my husband did, and he reports that technician Benjamin was knowledgeable, polite, and very accommodating in terms of explaining his findings to my husband. Those findings will be put into writing, along with an estimate for recommended repairs. This information will prove invaluable to us as we proceed in our negotiations with the seller. If we do wind up buying the house, we will definitely hire A Noble Sweep to perform the needed repairs (and I'll post a follow-up review). We recently purchased an older home and discovered during the inspection that the fireplace had a couple of issues...the gas line was completely rusted through and the key had broken off in the valve, just to name a couple. Before replacing the gas line, we thought it would be a good idea to have the chimney inspected because if it was a mess, there would be no reason to make the other repairs. Just cap the gas line and call it a day. Then we called Mr. Norman. He was right on time for our appointment and inspected the entire fireplace from top to bottom. His findings were that the chimney needed nothing. He recommended replacing the burner and logs with more current equipment and even said he could replace the gas line. His prices are fair, the work space is neat and clean, he is a great communicator, and was always prompt. I highly recommend him, but he's a busy guy and you might have to wait a few days for your appointment. Rest assured that it's worth the wait. read more
