This bookstore is proof that "welcoming" doesn't have to be a buzzword, it can actually mean something. In a town where too many places still quietly (or not so quietly) decide who fits and who doesn't, this space stands out. It's intentionally inclusive of queer folks, BIPOC individuals, and anyone who's ever walked into a business and felt like they didn't belong. Here, you don't get side-eyes. You don't get tension. You don't get that subtle pressure to make yourself smaller. You just get to exist. That shouldn't be rare, but in this area, it is. So yes, it's a great bookstore. But more importantly, it's a place that actively pushes back against the idea that only certain people deserve to feel comfortable in public spaces. A place to browse, read and relax but, more than that, it's a place to feel loved and accepted. And a book store that can save a life??? That's the best book you can ever buy! I have been a regular customer of A Novel Idea since they opened two years ago. It is a friendly, welcoming space, and a much-needed addition to our community. The store is relatively small, and their stock tends to run towards popular novels and series. While they do not have a large selection of nonfiction, they are happy to order any book you may want. (My taste tends to run towards heavy historical tomes.) Of particular note is the selection of children's books, and a welcoming play space for children. Groups from local daycares visit often. The kids especially enjoy the owners' friendly dogs. The shop hosts several book clubs, frequent author signings, and other special events. It is a warm and safe space for LGBTQ+ folk, which is not always the case for businesses in small-town Oklahoma. I've been coming to this bookstore for a while now, and every time I leave, I've got a stack of books and a better mood than when I walked in. It's warm, welcoming, and full of people who genuinely love books and helping others find them. Not once have I seen anyone "correcting opinions" -- but I have seen thoughtful recommendations, great conversations, and shelves that reflect the real, diverse world we actually live in. Some folks seem upset that not every book here agrees with them. Which... respectfully... is kind of how books work. If exposure to different ideas feels like an "agenda," it might not be the bookstore that's the problem. For the rest of us who enjoy discovering new voices, expanding our thinking, and supporting a place that clearly cares about its community... this bookstore is a gem. 10/10, will keep coming back (and spending money here, happily). read more

I have been into A Novel Idea on multiple occasions. One of my favorite visits features traveling poet JJ Brinski! We now have his tiny poems displayed around our house and our daughter's room after meeting him. Such a cool experience! I love seeing Lizzie and Mr. Darcy when I go in. I plan to bring my sister when she visits, and in the meantime have purchased more than one of their mugs with the pups on it for her (she is a crazy dog lady!!). The atmosphere is cozy, everyone has always been so friendly to me. The shop goers and owners gave my friend and I both a place to nurse our babies in peace without feeling like we were intruding or like it was "weird." My daughter is always greeted warmly by everyone in the shop, and I especially love the variety of books in the children's section! read more

Walking in feels like coming home. Where you can step inside and just melt away the stress and read a good book on their comfortable couch, or snuggle up with Mr. Darcy, one of their 3 dog mascots. The staff are so knowledgeable, friendly, and​ amazing. My first visit was right after having to have our bassett hound Poptart cremated at All Paws Go to Heaven, and when I walked in, I was immediately greeted by Mr. Darcy. Immediately I started crying on the spot and the owner Chelsea and her employee, Hope, were so amazing and welcoming and showed no judgements at all for a stranger who literally just walked in and started crying her heart out. This is our absolute favorite local bookstore! It's warm and cozy and welcoming and inclusive, everything a bookstore should be. Mr Darcy, Ms Lizzie, and now Mr Bingley are the perfect mascots and snuggle buddies. The kids section has more than just books! There's a kinetic sand table full of toys, a space to sit and color, and a pillow filled claw foot tub. If they don't have what you're looking for in the shop, they'll order it for you, and they even ship if you are unable to pick up in store The owner & team are friendly and helpful, and are shining examples of small-town community without judgment or small mindedness that often accompanies small towns. I had to drive my wife to Guthrie for a presentation. While she was there, I had a bit of time to kill. I'd checked out bookstores before we went and found this place. I checked the Facebook page and thought it looked great so decided to drop in. I absolutely fell in love with this place. I so want to go back but it's a several hour drive away. The book selection was excellent and I really enjoyed all of the other merchandise in the store (I'm a sticker hoarder). We'd planned on heading back for their Star's Hollow event but life intervened. But I will definitely be back one day. This place is a real treasure. read more

A novel idea is a great place to get your hands on any book that you desire! They carry everything that's new and upcoming and have a plethora of classics as well! The variety of book clubs is amazing and the conversations are always great. The staff is knowledgeable and kind. It's a great place to find gifts for anyone in your family as well. Wonderful book store. When I go in, I always find a book to add to my collection (2 books were hard to find, one was a extremely popular, 1st edition out of print and the other was hard to find even online as it is a self published & out of print. If you're a collector like me, it's an exciting find.) They have a wide variety of genre's and support local authors. Its comfortable environment makes me want to come back again and again. Creative, welcoming space with a great selection of books, stickers, and gifts. my teenage daughter loved her "blind date with a book" and I loved my Dungeon Crawler Carl stickers.
