Unless I'm getting my hair done in a color that requires bleaching, which has only happened once at a different location, I'm very low-maintenance when it comes to haircuts. Most of the time I have two requirements when I get it cut: chop it all off (usually it's a bob), and thin it out. This place is great. I've never had to make a reservation, and I always take whoever is available, because it's not very hard to cut and thin hair. If you're not too fussy about your haircuts, and your hair is easy to maintain (read: doesn't even really need to be maintained), this is the place! I've gotten compliments on my simple haircuts from here. The last time I came the guy was so meticulous I actually took the care to get his name. Alex, I believe. Honestly don't get all of the super negative reviews I've seen for A One Salon. I have been coming here about once a month for the last 4-5 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. I'm a huge of this place and I don't even in LA, let alone California. My Aunt and cousin live in the area and recommended this place to me. I am impressed by the skill, talent, and speed of Ken. He is great at cutting hair and is a natural. The price is dictated by how long your hair is. My hair is pretty long so I always end up paying the long hair price but to me, it's most certainly worth it! I don't do anything extensive or complex with my hair style but I do have a lot of hair. He styles my hair so it doesn't look heavy or clunky and I leave feeling like literal pounds have been lifted off of my shoulders. Because my hair is thick and dark, it can be hard to see the layers, but he does such a great job and really understands various hair textures. Hmm..my hair is getting a little long. Came to this relatively new hair salon to get my haircut with my dad while I was back home. Although it was a predominantly Chinese Speaking place(Mandarin and Cantonese) they had someone working who could help me translate what kind of haircut I wanted. The haircut for men is $10+tip, and I have to say it was a pretty solid, no-fuss haircut, especially because I couldn't communicate with the guy. Regardless, it was a great cut, if you know what you want, especially if you have asian hair, they will probably know how to take care of you and will do it quickly. I made an appointment yesterday for 12:30 and I didn't ask for anyone specific. Today I arrived at 12:15, and it turned out everybody asked for someone specific. So they kept me waiting. I made an appointment for 12:30 so shouldn't they leave someone for me at my time slot? I've been waiting for an hour now and it doesn't seem anyone will be available for me anytime soon. Bad service. Bad haircut. Would not come back. When I first walked in, I was not acknowledged or greeted. Didn't bother asking me how I wanted my hair cut. The wait was ridiculous. Had clients sitting awkwardly with wet hair waiting to be blown out. The stylist dropped the comb on the floor and then continued to use it on my head! Employees go on smoke breaks between cuts and washes, so the clients smell residual cigarette smoke! They don't wash their hands before working on clients. read more

The only place I go to now for my haircuts. I used to go to other places but the cuts never come out right. Look for Paul if you come here, he's a perfectionist with his cuts. Let him know what you want and he'll do it. He's always giving advice and makes sure that the results come out right. I trust Paul with my cuts because the results are always perfect. This was actually my first time coming to A One Salon and I can honestly say I am very pleased and surprised by their awesome work. I had a lovely gentleman name Eric who was so patient with me, very calm and super sweet too lol. Even though there is a bit of a language barrier between us, it was still by far one of the best salon I had ever experience. Eric helped ombre my hair from an old dark brown and faded blonde tips to a luscious light brown and beautiful golden blonde. It was such a long session (6 hours to be precise) but Eric stayed way passed closing time just to work with me and help obtain the color I was looking for. Got a cut from Paul which lasted for about 40 min and costed around $20. He does great layers and knows how to match a style according to your face. They also dye hair which costs around $70. If you speak Chinese definitely speak it cause you'll get better service! read more

After reading the yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a shot seeing as how I just needed to get my hair trimmed, not completely restyled. First of all, this place is CASH ONLY! So be prepared.. Second of all, they're actually really great! I walked in around noon on a Saturday and was greeted and helped immediately. I didn't catch the guy's name, but his chair is immediately to the left when you walk in.. He was so great! Downside: he doesn't seem to speak English so don't expect to chop it up unless you speak the language. He washed and rinsed my hair and it was basically an amazing massage for a solid 15 mins. Let me tell you, I did NOT mind lol He then proceeded to trim my hair and it was fast, efficient and I felt totally at ease with him. I normally freak when people I don't know touch my hair, but I felt fine with this guy. I don't know what it'd be like if you want a totally new hairstyle, but my experience with a trim and layers was great. I was charged $25 for the whole shebang.. You can't beat that price! This salon is not a good place for women. I came to get my hair colored light brown and it came out very dark which is fine. After, I had to get a haircut and a blow dry and the stylist didn't want to blow dry my hair straight he put a bunch of gel and blowdried it curly. I had to get someone to translate for me in Chinese since I don't speak it to tell him that I didn't ask for curly hair I wanted it blowdried straight. They had to wash my hair again and then dry it straight I was upset because everyone was leaving with straight blow dry hair but just because my hair is curly they thought it was easy just to leave it curly blow dry it on the way I don't think that was fair and I paid $90 plus tip for color cut and blow dry. I was there 3 hours. Not coming back this place isn't for women and specially not Hispanics. Lesson learned. read more

This shop was opened up by a couple of workers from Zen Salon. I usually cut with Ken and this is primarily an asian salon, meaning they speak cantonese and mandarin (toi san too). Ken is very meticulous with his work and can be very quick at times. The only difficult part is communicating since there's a language barrier. But he hasnt once messed up my hair from any of the pictures i've shown him. men's cuts are 8 dollars. i usually tip 2. thats an even 10 per hair cut! quite the bargain! read more

A friend recommended Paul to cut my hair. I gave him a try and it was the best haircut I've ever gotten. They only charge 10 bucks and don't expect a lot of tip.
