She is quick and does a pretty good job for $15. She is one of the best at this salon, so the wait for Lin might be long (on a busy day.) She is welcoming, pleasant to talk to, and accommodating. I am not 100% certain if she does appointments, but walk-ins is available/preferred. Not gatekeeping this gem any longer--my husband and 2 boys have been coming here for 10+ years. We tried other salons and barbershops and nothing beats the price, the skill, and efficiency. And, since we moved, we willingly drive 30 mins out here to get the best and most affordable haircuts. The best and most affordable in SGV. The atmosphere/vibe feels a bit gloomy, but the service is pleasant nonetheless. Also, the salon needs some TLC--so don't expect a fancy luxe salon. She put absolutely ZERO effort in cutting my hair. When I told her something about the back being cut wayyyy too high she said "well I don't cut your hair normally, stick to your barber." Lots of people here on a Sunday, but I no longer understand why! My mom and I came here to get our hair cut..ugh, what a mistake. We had 2 different people. She had a Korean lady and I had Kevin, the Vietnamese man. Kevin did a better job on my hair..he was sweet, chatted unintrusively, and was a bit more detailed. He didn't give me what I wanted though. I wish I had read Elle T.'s review before..I wanted the long layered look that is probably the most common asian girl haircut EVER..but he ended up cutting off 4-5 inches, strand by strand, and it was most of a mullet shape than the long layered look. Sigh. womp. The Korean Lady did a hack job on my mom's hair. It wasn't even around the neckline..definitely not impressed even if the cut was only $13. Ok I've actually been going to this place for maybe 10 years but it was used to reside on main and first. The prices here 8 bucks and parking is great. Clara, Lin and Kevin are really courteous and know how to give a great fade. Sometimes since Ive been a going awhile they will skip a person and go to me. Clara is the only latina and will always ask about your family and stuff, she is so popular that people give her pics of her kids and prom pics. Lin knows how to give a great fade and is as well talkative and courteous. Kevin can cut really well but will tend to take longer because he really likes to talk to you if you can understand him. He once told me how people can fly, but it takes years of discipline to know how. He stated that certain monks are able to perform this feat. Dont be afraid to go to him either, if he is wearing a dress and skirt, who cares he know how to really cut hair. Im not sure about the other staff who work there, because I have never gone to them. My mom SWEARS by this place. She truly loves it here and she loves Lin. The price is amazing, but the service is also. My mom has followed the owners here from their previous location (which we will not advertise here). They are excellent at cutting Asian hair. These wonderful women are not only good at cutting hair, but they are very sweet and caring! Sometimes they get really busy, but it is worth the wait. If you come during their "rush hour," just be patient or come back later. My Pops gets his haircut by Clara, and he seems to really like the job she does. My uncle also comes here, but he goes to the other guy (I think maybe he is Kevin). Kevin does a great job, and it is a shame that some people are too prudish or judgemental to recognize that. I come here and get a very simple haircut. But if thats what you need then this place fits the bill. Its definitely a no frills kind of place. I get whoever is available next, which is usually one of the dudes, Kevin or Mark. The women are definitely in higher demand, because on the sign in sheet they are the ones getting requested all the time (clara or lin?) . But since I don't need much for my hair I don't care, getting in and out is what i'm concerned with. It can get pretty packed on the weekends, so if you can you might want to go on a weekday. This place is great if you're looking for a cheap but good quality haircut. You can park on the street, but check the sign to see when you can park. I think they also have a lot in the back. On my first visit I only had to wait like 15 minutes but on the most recent visit I waited at least 30 minutes and almost all the chairs were full. Some of their chairs sink in and are kind of uncomfortable. 5 stars for Kevin! He really takes his time to make sure your hair is cut to your liking. There might be a wait for him because he's so good but it's worth it. I've had him cut my hair twice already and I've liked both haircuts a lot. He layers just the right amount and doesn't cut your hair too short. Just tell him how much you want to cut off and he'll do it. Came here a few weeks ago to get a haircut and wasn't really satisfied. I told the hair stylist I only wanted my hair in light long layers since my hair was short, but she kept cutting whatever. I have had it shorter before but I noticed this time my hair had some weird layers. Like so uneven. But it only shows when I put my hair to my right. But when I put my hair to the left side it kinda covers the damage although you can still see the uneven layers. I think I should have waited to get my hair done at my usual hair salon. Lesson learn. I called ahead of time to check the price for a one application coloring and was told that it is $30+. I figured since I have long hair, it would come out to or around $40. The 0 (yes, 0, not 1)star rating is for the lady who helped me: Leeya (or her last name is Lee) helped me. After checking my hair, she said it will be $45 b/c of my long hair. Hmm, ok, I guess that makes sense. I do not have much PRO pointers to give her...so I am going to jump into the CONS: -she was rough with handling my hair, not gentle at all...felt like she was yanking on my hair like she was mad at it. -she ran out of coloring and told me that it will cost me an extra $5. This does not make sense b/c I am already charged $45 (from the starting price of $30) for my long hair. So now, it's $50 total for my coloring. What does she expect me to say? No? I'm half way covered with dye. Felt cornered and trapped there. It should not be on me that she didn't mix the right amount of dye to start with. -she did a super messy job applying the dye, leaving stains on my ears, neck and face line. It was super messy and she did not wipe it off immediately. She did clean some of it off (a dab here and a dab there) but miss a lot of spots! What's the point? No effort at all it seem like she was doing that just for show. By the time she 'attend' to the stains? It already left a mark. Color stains on the skin are hard to wash off! -she has this attitude that is neither friendly or nice, like she is doing me a favor or something. -she tried to solicite referrals from me by stating that she normally charges $60 and up for a color at her Arcadia location but for me, she gave me a discount. That is a bunch of bull. So unprofessional! If she's doing so well at the Arcadia location, she should not even be taking a second location at this salon. -she did a sloppy wash where she didn't make any effort to get rid of the dye stains on my ears, hairline and neck area (yes, that's how sloppy she was with applying the dye). There was water in my ear. It was so uncomfortable. -she did not blow dry and style my hair at all. I left the shop dripping wet post dye. This was not mentioned at the beginning. I was sitting there waiting for her to blow dry my hair or even help dry my hair out. Nothing! I was dripping wet and my shirt was getting wet. What kind of service is this??? For $50??? This experience was one of the worst I ever had. This lady lacks detail and overcharges for the poor service she provided. I went straight home to clean out all the dye stains with alcohol and washed my hair again. She either didn't use enough shampoo or rinse thoroughly b/c the water running was super dark still. $50 for a horrible dye job that I have to follow up on my own? F You! I would highly recommend you avoid having her near your hair for any service. She is not worth the money or the tip. Students do a better job than this clown. She is there on Wednesdays and Sundays. For the other days in the week, she is at her Arcadia location overcharging her clients there and providing horrible service. I doubt she could cut hair if she s so poorly skilled with dying hair. It is currently 4am and I am on winter break, what else is there better to do than to write reviews on Yelp? :P I came here this week with my sister and my momma. When I first walked in, I wanted to run out. This place, at first glance, is not your usual Asian hair salon filled with loud Asian ladies yelling over each other. I saw a Hispanic worker with many Hispanic customers.. And I thought this was the wrong place! Nonetheless, this was our first time here so we didnt know what to expect. My mom went first and the guy cut her hair. The guy took his time and made sure her hair was perfect and man, was he good! Now, my mom has short hair and he still took at least 30 minutes+ to cut her hair while the lady (Lisa) went through my thick, long Asian hair in a lesser amount of time compared to my mom's hair. Uh, what? Then Lisa proceeded to my sister's hair. Another 15 minutes passed by, and my moms hair looked gorgeous! (I didn't comment on my hair cus nothing was really special about it.) My mom now has silky beautiful even hair!! The guy also took the time to neatly style my mom's hair while my hair was still damp and Lisa failed to blowdry all of my hair :/ To cut this short, I would recommend the guy. I believe his name is David? He is the one to go to if you need a haircut! He took his time and made sure everything was perfect before we walked out of the salon. P.S. Lisa charged us $30. Hi, I'm a poor college student and I'm glad this place exists! Don't let the look of this place deter you from getting your haircut. The employees here know what their are doing. I don't think they have hair coloring services here though. So if you wanna dye your hair blonde, black, red, or even purple... GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! ARGH! I haev had previous experience with this place, and Reina did my hair to perfection. I went in yesterday and a very unfriendly Asian woman was behind the desk, who let me wait for nearly a half hour before she told me Reina wouldn't be in for another hour. I mean I was sitting there right in front of her- it was like she resented my presence. I gave up waiting on Reina and that is my first mistake. Unfriendly Asian woman (who is practically rolling her eyes at me) deigns to give me a cut. While acting all the while like to smile at me would be to renounce all that is good in the world or something. That continued throughout the cut. I tried my best to be friendly, smile, tried to talk to her but she acted as if I had murdered her family or something. It was just- bizarre. Then haircut wise, she left an obvious gap in my bangs and it was just glaring. I asked her to even it out and she actually stopped for a minute, stared off into space and breathed deeply as if she were trying not to punch me. Honest, I was not being annoying, I had at that time given up on trying to be friendly and was just trying to get out of there. But this was just freaking STRANGE. Then she wouldn't look at me when I paid, stood for a minute looking down and looking tense as if she were trying not to punch me AGAIN. SERIOUSLY, mental health much? She wouldn't tell me the price and I stood there for like ten seconds with my wallet out and she just looked to the side like she had had just about enough of me. Finally she deigns to speak with me, informing me that the haircut price was like 8 dollars more than it had been last time. It was 18 dollars, and I actually left her a two buck tip, and now I wish I had made her give me change just to show her how little I appreciated her attitude. FIRE this woman. Seriously. Just a nasty, needlessly abrupt and purposefully unfriendly woman. This isn't someone who is just oblivious, she really seemed to be trying to contain her anger at having to deal with me. I called ahead to make sure a girl's trim is in fact $8. The woman said "Yes $8" I walked in on a Wed at 4 pm... I didn't leave till 7pm... I came in signed my name and sat down to wait... Tell me why 5 guys that walked in after me were serviced first... I guess it takes less time to cut men's hair... but does that really mean you let FIVE go first? That's BS... I came here on a Friday afternoon, the wait wasn't long, it wasn't very busy. K (yeah his name is just a letter) cut my hair. I showed him a picture of the haircut I wanted and he went to work right away. He explained to me that the stylist that cut my hair before took out too much hair in the front for my bangs, and I agreed with him, so he fixed it. It took him less than 15 mins to finish. I was going to take off stars but for its price, this place was really great and worth it. I was initially afraid because of the price and the idea of, "You get what you par for." but my expectations were met and then some for the price. I called first to see if there was a wait. I heard it helps to know what you want before sitting down, so knowing that, I showed my stylist a picture of me when I liked my hair. She really liked that and said it was great to know for reference. Where I would have taken off stars was for hair cutting etiquette. I walked in and say right away which meant the previous persons hair had not been swept up. it's hair, I didn't mind but I could see how some people would. Also, the cord of the buzzer was not moved/adjusted ever so it was lying across my body. The cord was stretched across my body, sometimes hitting my neck. Again, I chose to not take off stars since you really can't beat the $8 price. Cash only, understandably. Hello my Yelpies, Came here a few times to wait for my boyfriend to get a haircut. I don't personally get my haircut here but he does. Parking here is a little bit hard since you pretty much have to find street parking. But most of the times it's not too hard to find parking spaces. My boyfriend has been coming here for many many months. He told me he is very happy with Mark's work. This is the first time I went in and wait for him, we got there on December 31st around 3pm, I was very disappointed that we had to wait almost 2 hours because apparently he said he called his name but we didn't hear it, so I had to see 3 people who came after us went before us. It was hard to believe since we were sitting right in front of the counter and weren't doing anything but waiting. From what I see I give them a 5 out of 10 for cutting my boyfriends hair. The only good part about this place is that they are very cheap, and since he doesn't have much hair why go to places that are just way over priced. So you pretty much get what you paid for. Everything all together is less than $20 so that's pretty good for guys hair. I do like their attitude because I understand sometimes when there's too many people it can get overwhelming so good job on keeping a positive attitude. Overall, 4 stars for service, 3 stars for their work, 3 stars for environment and decoration and 3 stars for cleanliness. $10 haircut says it all. I don't even know why I decided to go to a nearby cheap place instead of making an appointment with my hair dresser. Never have I ever walked out of a hair salon disappointed until I came here. I was so dissatisfied that I went home and fixed my own hair with my own scissors. I didn't even ask for anything difficult. I simply asked to cut my hair at neck length all around...I walked out with uneven length hair. The guy almost sent me out until I told him that it's uneven. And he said "No, it's not." I literally made him stand in front of me and look at my hair and he said "Oh, you're right. Let me fix that for you." (Btw, Mark was the name of the guy who cut my hair. Idk if the others are any better, but beware of Mark.) Lesson learned: Don't get your hair cut at some nearby salon just because their price is cheap. This really was my mistake too. His name is K. He is a middle-aged Vietnamese man and has hair that can I can only describe as almost-a-mullet-but-not-quite. I told K I wanted long layers. If you've had your hair cut a certain style as many times as I have, you start to observe particular procedures. I should have bolted as soon as I saw K's "technique". He didn't seem to understand that "cutting layers" does not mean you cut hair in individual tiers like a 1920's flapper gown. The length of the longest "layer" was okay, but the next "layer" was a noticeable 2 inches higher. What. K did not wash my hair and decided to comb through it with a fine tooth comb (quite painful, when you have product in your hair). He noted that my hair had tangles to which I hinted, "I usually get my hair washed before a cut..." to which he insisted, "No, your hair is very damaged from all the processing". (What processing?! Stop yanking on my hair!). Long story short, somehow the rest of the cut turned out like a hot mess of the Jennifer Aniston choppy cut from the 90's. With an extra long tier at the bottom. Fast forward to the end of the experience, my hair looked worse than it did before I walked in. At least my hair was long before so I could roll it into a bun to look neat if necessary. Now, it was scraggly and uneven, flaring out every which way. I was too afraid to tell K anything halfway through the cut because 1st, he was very polite and tried to be friendly with me and 2nd, when I tried to kindly tell him that I wanted the layers to frame my face, he took off a LOT more than I'd hoped. I didn't want my hair to be too short for the rescue cut to follow. Squirming to leave so that I could burst into tears in my car (okay, not really, but I was pretty annoyed), I asked how much I owed him and he quietly told me "only $12". I honestly expected it to cost more because of the length of my hair to begin with, as it generally goes with most salons. At the time, I could only conclude that he was charging me much less than he would have, thus his clandestine manner of speaking. In hindsight and based on other ladies' reviews, you can make of that what you will. In conclusion, K is a nice and pleasant person to chat with and no doubt has good intentions, but I would not have him cut my hair again. Maybe he's better at men's cuts. As for me, I returned to my usual stylist and decided to get a Lob to take that last tier off and re-layer what was left of "the Rachel". read more

I came here on Sunday at around noon. There were 4 people ahead of me and I waited about 45 minutes before it was my turn. I got Kevin and instructed him I wanted my hair trimmed 1 inch with short layers. He asked me if I wanted the hair to cover my ears and I suggested about half covered. I knew from the start he did not know how to cut men's hair other than the traditional fade because he immediately pulled out his hair clipper and began giving me a fade using his comb. I've NEVER had this happen to me before when asking for LAYERED hair. He did not even layer my hair with his technique and in addition, he trimmed it more then 1.5 inches. I now have a bowl cut.
