I did end up paying more, but it's because I was cheap and went to him with an Amazon fob. He tried for over 30 minutes to fix this fob... he said he had to help another customer and I also had to leave for a little, and he was willing to stay after business hours for me to come back and try again. He ended up determining it was the fob, so he switched out my fob with his fob, which he was able to easily program and it worked perfectly. So props to George. My Miata thanks you. I walked 10 minutes and found this key kiosk in the parking lot of Shoppers. The owner was able to copy my keys perfectly. This is also includes a particular DC mailbox key. I live in the Brookland/Pleasant Hills area by Catholic University. It was worthwhile to go to this key kiosk. I got what I needed. Finally! Their hours are Mon-Fri 11am-3pm. Sat & Sun closed. *Cash only They appear to do locks as well.

The locksmith from the Lock Doctor came and just bent a piece of metal in the mechanism that had become warped in the cold weather. Needless to say, the bill was nowhere near $895. If the locksmith you are using wants to be paid upfront, jacks up the price after doing the work, or works out of a fake address, you should beware. The first locksmith I had called had an address at 14th and Park roads right around the corner from me, but I later went by there and there was no locksmith anywhere on the block. Postscript: someone noted that the locksmith I recommend doesn't have a specific address, which is kind of funny given my comments above. I believe he works only on-site and doesn't maintain a physical store front (as scammer locksmith I used first fraudulently advertised). My review did not reflect that as well as I wanted it to show. That said, after speaking with the technician, they are reducing some of the installation cost and replacing the deadbolt with a thinner profile at no extra charge. I should have called them first, instead of venting online. Thus the reason I don't like the ability to write quick reviews. I would definitely reccomend this company to you for your locksmith needs. Just be sure to confirm the cost before agreeing to the work so that you are not surprised. Again, the technician was professional, kind, and easy to work with. His work was done well and we are happy with the functionality and quality of the locks. I really appreciated the fact that he took time to listen to my concerns and offer good advice without trying to upsale me to more expensive locks than I needed. Again, after calling them and talking through my frustrations at the total cost, they showed kindness and concern when they could have blown me off and not cared. A high quality locksmith with quality products is not cheap, but in the long run will be worth the cost. I will definitely be calling them back for any future locksmith needs.

That approach came across as intimidation rather than guidance. When it became clear the project could not be completed, I was still charged the full price. When I raised my concern, the response was dismissive and delivered in a raised tone of voice. As a young woman alone in that situation, I felt intimidated and taken advantage of. They knew the job had not been completed successfully, yet I was still required to pay in full, which made the experience feel unfair and exploitative. Afterward, I learned the wiring issue could have been solved in a very simple way. Instead, I was left with unnecessary damage, had to clean up the entire mess by myself, and now face additional costs to repair what was left behind. Cleaning up on my own not only made the sting of the experience worse but also felt degrading. I am glad this company may work well for smaller, straightforward projects.
