From the moment you walk in, you're treated extremely well, from the water/wine you get while you wait until you walk out the door with a new 'do. Courtney listens to what I want in a haircut and gives me her honest opinion, and I've never left feeling like I got a bad cut or that I had to settle for something. She's funny and just a great person to talk to while you go through your and experience! Yes, it's pricey if you're comparing it to a chain hair place, but it's worth it, trust me. The staff is superb. The salon itself looks like someones chic, cozy home. And let me tell you: RAE. IS. IT. She made me a beautiful blonde once again and I couldn't ask for more! If I didn't love the Aveda products and my stylist, I'd have a hard time coming back. I arrive on time for my appointment and end up waiting 10-15 minutes each time. In addition, the owner instituted a new policy around tipping your stylist. They will be charged a fee if you leave the tip on a credit card, so they encourage you to leave cash or a check. This policy appears to benefit the owner, as it places an inconvenience to both the stylists and the customers. All this said, they have very skilled staff and you will get a great cut, color, etc. I'd like to see them work on their customer focus. No longer a customer....the extra waiting time continued to be a problem and I've found another Aveda concept salon and a great stylist. read more

I am new to the New Cumberland area and will only use Aveda products and salon. Well, the receptionist recommended Raw to me. HUGE MISTAKE!! All I needed was a touch up on color and trim the ends. WELL, 3 1/2 hours later I walked out of that classless salon in Tears!! I was no longer a blonde but a ashy/dirty blonde! I was terribly upset for the amount if time I spent in that chair and Rae applied 3 different colors to my hair!! Such a mess and to top it off, she had me go outside to look at my hair in the sunlight! She's an embarrassment to this Aveda salon and to herself! If you're new in town DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!! I'm still furious how awful she made me look and feel!! My hair felt like straw after applying 3 different colors...they didn't even offer me a deep conditioning treatment! Stay away from New Cumberland and drive the extra way and go to the Lebanon Aver salon. read more

My experience a A Roland has been topsy turvy. My first stylist was OK, although after several cuts she continued to blame my previous stylist, even though my hair had grown out. During this time there was also an increase in the cost for the same cut. I was on my last visit with her when I was informed by phone that it would need to be rescheduled as the stylist was no longer there,,,did she leave to pursue other opportunities? The ensuing stylist, Amanda, has done a great job on my hair and I was very happy. After my last cut I was told the price was now $40, slightly over a 30% increase in cost(no advance notice). When I asked why, I was told that the "girls" were being underpaid. How was that a response to my question as I did not underpay them and I have tipped each time.. Seemed perfunctory and dismissive. When I asked if Amy made the $40 price up, I was told of course not! I simply want a nice hair cut, not a robbery. Possibly a better response would have been she had additional training or progressed to another level. I will continue to go the A Roland, but will need to have the cut every 5-6 weeks instead of every 4 weeks. Not sure my feeling on the tip, especially if the increase went directly to Amanda. Do not want Amanda to suffer, but neither do I. If these steep price increases continue, another option may be necessary. There are other Aveda fish in the pond;Franklin, Mood Swings, etc.! read more

Started going to A Roland about a year ago... Love everyone there. Aside from just being really nice people, they are excellent at their craft! I just spent the day at A Roland and left completely happy! You can take in pictures to give your stylist an idea of what you want... But the great thing about this team is that they will help customize the look you are going for to make sure it looks amazing on you. I had my hair done by Amanda and LOvE it! She lightened my roots and added super light highlights. I totally trust her - my hair looks great and is the healthiest it's been in years. Also had a facial with Courtney.... I think it was called the double exfoliant facial. This has been my favorite facial so far. It felt amazing and my skin is glowing. I liked it so much that I bought the dry brush and oil she used so I can do it each morning. And for the first time, I got lash extensions! Courtney did those too. No more mascara for me! My lashes still look natural but waaay better. Courtney is meticulous - every lash is perfect. I was worried about the extensions hitting against my glasses but she made sure they didn't. I would recommend this salon and any of the stylists... But especially Amanda & Courtney!! read more

Jenna is a color artist! She created a multi-level color creation that was at once head turning and elegant. The Aveda color was smashing and my hair is soft and glowing. Selena and Maddy provided spa scalp massages and a fabulous blow out. Finally, after 20 years of high end spa/beauty services--including a local well known chocolate spa--I experienced the most relaxing treatment at this salon. Found my all time favorite salon! From the moment you walk in you feel like a regular. They warmly welcome you and offer to take your coat and offer you a drink. They have a separate side waiting area with updates on their salon and a tv. Even if your stylist isn't ready for you you're never waiting long. One of their assistants will collect you and start the Aveda "ritual" which is a gentle shoulder massage with essential oils designed to relax. My stylist is Amanda, I've only been here three times and it feels like we have been long time friends. She carries on great conversation and keeps me laughing the whole way through. I got my first highlight here and they have a separate coloring room in the back so you don't feel silly sitting in the middle of the salon with foils and color on. The thing that is really impressive is that they all consult each other on color and cut. All the stylists generously offer their opinions to one another in order for you to look your best. It's always hard to leave after your appointment just because you feel so good in that beautiful salon! So, I have been going to Maddy Miller for the past year and she is truly an amazing stylist. She was just named Aveda Rookie of the Year and rightfully so. She has changed my look many times this past year. I was extremely unhappy with the service they provide. The staffs are very rude especially Ferna. I went there to get my hair done and left extremely unhappy with the outcome of my hair. The hairstylist only bleached 25% of my hair and charged me $180. I went in there thinking that my hair would be bleached entirely from top to bottom, but instead, she partially touched my hair. She left my entire roots as well as under my hair and the entire bottom half of my hair untouched. I chose a color of what I wanted my hair to look like and when I left the salon my hair looked like the same color I came in with b/c she did not bleach the rest of my hair. She just wanted to do a sloppy job and leave the rest of my hair as is. When I saw the outcome of my hair I voiced my concerns to Courtney the hair dresser and told her I was unhappy with the all the black she left on my head. I pulled my hair up into a pony tail and all I can see is black. She did not touch 75% of my hair. Her response was, "do you put your hair in a pony tail a lot?" Like seriously? She literally did nothing to fix my hair and did not give me what she said she would deliver. She just let me sit in the chair for half an hour unhappy and said she will be at the checkout desk, and I can come whenever I am ready to check out. I do not know what salon let their customers leave unhappy. She had plenty enough time to fix my hair because I still had 2 hours left of my appointment time and she had no clients afterward. The staffs at this salon do not care about providing good customer service or making their customers happy. They do not deliver what they said they would do. I am not even upset about not getting the color I wanted. What I am pissed about is the fact I did not get my money's worth. If I am going to pay $180 for my hair to be bleached, I expect my entire hair to be touched. I would not recommend this salon!!!!! I will be letting all of my friends know as well not to ever go to this salon. read more

A Roland is like a day at the spa, where you come out relaxed and reenergized with a new fresh look. Jenna was everything you could ask for in a great stylist. We started with a amazing consult where she took the time to truly understand what I wanted in my hair color. She was very knowledgable about aveda color and different color combinations that turned out beautiful. She carefully applied the color and in the end it looked awesome. Sipping on the cucumber water was so refreshing, exactly like my new color and cut. I also loved the scalp message. Everyone at the salon was so attentive and really made you feel comfortable. Without a doubt a phenomenal find! As a regular yelp user, this by salon by far, exceeded my expectations. As you enter the salon you are greeted with an unanticipated visual delight. The decor is relaxing, yet invigorating and the cheerful disposition of the receptionist sets the tone for your entire experience. I was offered my choice of coffee, tea or wine and oriented to the treatment areas. It was a very short wait as I was introduced to Myia and treated to an essential oil aromatic and neck treatment, followed by a serious shampoo and head treatment. I was then taken to my stylist's area where I met Rae and encountered TRUELY one of the best cuts I have ever had. I am rocking a great do, so very pleased with the end result! Sadly, I live in California, so I won't have the pleasure of making this my constant salon, but you can be sure when I travel this direction, I will plan for a return treatment! What a fantastic experience at A Roland. I moved up from DC in January and found A Roland through Yelp. All the outstanding reviews are accurate. You are greeted when you come in the door and offered a drink while you wait in the cozy front sitting room. Such a quaint and clean salon. Ferna does a great job as receptionist and Ali is an amazing hair stylist. I have fine straight hair, one daughter has straight hair and the other has coarse, curly hair and Ali does a fantastic job on all three of us. I would highly recommend this salon. The professionals here can walk you through the correct products to purchase and will take the time to do so. Very, very, very impressed with how "real" the team is here.
