I won a gift card for a 1 hour massage at Sass at a charity event at the end of last year. This past week was super stressful, and by Friday I badly needed someone to work on my sore muscles. I was surprised to discover that Sass had same day availability! This place is a bit set back from the road, and I actually drove right by it. I was able to park next door in a cute little consignment shop "Making Sense" (Review for them to follow). Sass is a salon in a renovated old house, with various areas for spa treatments. The first floor has chairs for hair services, different hair and skin products available for sale. Front desk staff are warm and welcoming. My massage therapist was female, in her mid 20s. She was very professional, took time to clearly get an idea of my problem areas, and how much pressure I needed. During my massage, I found out the therapist had only been doing massage for 1 year. I was very skeptical, to be honest. As you can see from my Yelp profile I've reviewed a number of other massage locations, and the experiences have varied from fantastic to horrible. This was on the upper end, luckily. The therapist was able to do deep tissue work, with open communication about any areas of pain. Her techniques are on point, and she was able to use a variety of styles including some shiatsu and Swedish. Her communication skills were good, and she was not overly chatty, tuning in to when I started to really relax. I feel like I could have drifted off towards the end of the session, which is always a bonus for me. (To be pain free and soothed enough to find a restful state is a rarity.) The spa has a salt room set up, up stairs. I doubt I'll take advantage of the salt room, as it is rather small and I would find it more claustrophobic than soothing, but it is well decorated and if you buy in to the "benefits of salt treatment", perhaps this would be worth a try. They sent me home with a brochure for their salt room. There was only one small concerning thing: the wiring in this building. The massage room was in the attic of this old home, and some of the outlets are the older, 2 prong types. The surge protector was connected to the outlet via a converter, and is not a very safe option. It didn't have an impact on my experience, but is a business practice that should be fixed by Sass. The whole building seems to be updated cosmetically, but wiring should be fixed. Sass has different specials available on local Groupon type sites. I'd suggest looking for online deals before booking an appointment. I would recommend this spot for anyone who needs some relaxation and quality spa treatments. read more

This was my second place in the area to get my hair cut, and I was trying to find somewhere kind of close that I could rely on, especially with getting my hair cut so short. I really wanted to like it here. I did. When I called to get an appointment, I asked for the lowest level they had for stylist. I always do this. I like the lowest level girls. I've done this forever, and I really also don't love paying a lot of money simply for someone with more experience. The receptionist said the stylist's name (which I leave out of reviews that are less than stellar because I don't really believe she was bad, just not for me) and said she was a creative stylist or something or the other, which I just ASSUMED that because I asked for the lowest level, that's what she was. I said sounds good, and was there a few days later. The waiting area is REALLY small and I ended up sitting awkwardly between a couple waiting for their daughter or something. It's open, but man, that was a weird 15 minutes of my life. My stylist was sweet and I really liked her as a person. I loved talking to her and thought she was awesome. That unfortunately distracted me from the fact that she and the salon in general had really different tastes in hair than I did. I realized after all my hair was cut off that this wasn't going too stellar and kept having to kind of ask for things done and explain that basically all of her neat little styling ideas weren't going to happen as I am pretty lazy about my hair. I left with my hair way too styled and poufed up. I have incredibly thick hair, and it was not thinned enough at all, and when I washed it, it was really poufy and thick. When I paid, I didn't really hear the lady, but I assumed it was the price I read online for the lowest level stylist. Turns out, she wasn't. Whatever title she rambled off when I reserved was something above that, which I wish she would have told me a bit more clearly. Maybe I'm not up on the lingo, but all the salons have different names for the different levels, so it's confusing, and I stick with what I do for a reason. But whatever. I left with a bad haircut that I cried to my husband over the next day and it was more expensive that I had hoped since that all happened. Meh, just not my style here and I felt like the communication was really bad. read more

Lydia had worked on my hair for a good 4-6 years. Overtime she got better at doing my hair. My hair texture is curly/wavy so I'm aware that it was out of her comfort zone. Anytime I felt like I was being treated differently or discriminated against I looked the other way. During my parents divorce she put herself in business she shouldn't have been involved in which was mine. Derogatory comments left & right about multiple things including implications of where I lived being dangerous or unkept, my husband being dark, my mom being dark, etc. It's as if my father had told her things during my parents divorce & she had repeated them. She just jumped to conclusions about my life being a certain way. Me being a person of color doesn't mean I'm broke. When I had moved back to Pennsylvania and I came to her as soon as I got back it's like a switch flipped and she became a whole different person. When my mother had called the salon to speak about the unprofessionalism they answered , said that they'd give us a call back and never did. After sitting in Lydia's chair for a grueling hour or so of her attacking my home life I was charged 2-3 times as much as I usually payed for my trim/ blowout. She does curly hair well she's just nosy and puts herself in business she shouldn't be in, she's rude and racist. I will never be able to fathom how a business owner vouches for people with bad character or unfriendly character. Do as you please by going to this salon but remember it's a business their worried about money before their worried about caring about you. read more

Sass Salon & Day Spa wonderful place for hair, nails and make-up, however now they are offering ultra sound cavitation, which a non-invasive lypo treatment. I have had 3 treatments so far and I have lose 2 1/2 inches and dropped a pants size. I love this place. read more

I'm a customer here because I used to get my hair cut by Britt who used to have her own business before joining Sass. Sass is a fun place to come. You can have drinks there (water, soda.) Their new location on Kranzel has a really pretty room where they wash your hair because there are white strings of lights on the ceiling with pretty mesh material and it looks like a night sky when you get your hair washed. They also have other services like massages and makeup artists. They have a really cool salt room with low light and Himalayan salt where you sit and relax. The whole place is really nice. The only thing I don't like is the chairs you go in to get your hair cut...they're like cubes with no front and top. And then under you and around your sides and back it's like sitting in a box. The thing is, when people are getting their hair cut, the hair falls down in the chair and gets stuck there as there is no cutout in the back of the chair or any good way to brush the hair out. I wish they'd get the chairs they had at their old location before the fire. Other than that it's a great place with great staff! read more

The horrible place to go - disgusting ambiance, rude owner, complete mess up staff. We schedule spa treatment 2 - 3 weeks in advance with the receptionist. She called me back to confirm the date, time and treatment. When we came to this awful place(look like a barn from outside, which is very deceiving from their website), they couldn't find our reservations and kept asking us if we confirmed it prior, which I have. Then they scrambled whoever was available to do the treatment - which was so so. Rooms were cold and not clean, small, uncomfortable - no changing room, we had to change either in the bathroom or anywhere there was a space, go from one floor to another with all other people around(other customers who were there for haircut, including men) - no privacy. Ruined whole spa experience totally. We felt humiliated. When we asked the owner(who looked awful as she was on drugs) to compensate our visit by reducing the price, she didn't handle that fair and asked us to pay. WE ended up paying a bit less then originally, which was totally unfair. DO NOT GO TO THAT HORRIFIC SPA EVER!!!! SAVE YOURSELF FROM HUMILIATION ! read more

I booked my wedding party at Sass for an 2011 wedding (yes, this review is late in coming, but I still feel strongly about my experience and wish to submit it, better late than never, to help others). I went with Sass because I wanted to work with a particular stylist who had come highly recommended to me. My hair trial went very well, and, as a result, I booked my entire wedding party for hair and some of the party for makeup. I arranged with Sass in the weeks before the wedding that myself, my 5 bridesmaids and my mother would be in for hair (all) and makeup (some). Since our appointments started early in the morning, Sass said they could help me with a small refreshment setup for my bridesmaids (I would bring the food and beverages), have a separate space set up for them, and offer mini massages to the bridesmaids as they were waiting for their hair and makeup to be done. It all sounded so nice and I was excited for us to have a great time getting ready at the salon. On the morning of the wedding, me and my party arrived to find that the salon had done nothing to set out a separate table or refreshment set-up, as was promised. We ended up having to put our bagels and pastries on top of magazines in the cramped waiting area, and throwing the OJ and whatever else goodness knows where. There was no separate area for us to gather. I wasn't too bothered by this though, since we all pretty much got in for hair at the same time. No "mini massages" were given after some of the girls had their hair done and others were waiting for makeup. But here's the worst part - they did a terrible job on my mother's makeup, resulting in her leaving embarrassed and in tears. I also shed a few tears because this was my wedding day, and I was excited for my mom, one of the most special members of the wedding party, to feel beautiful. The technician who did her makeup made her up to look like a corpse. I am not exaggerating - I still shudder when I think back to what she looked like because I thought to myself that is what she would look like laying in a casket. It was terrible - layers of pasty makeup caked on her face, even after she tells the technician that she doesn't wear heavy foundation and wanted light makeup! My mother was nicely trying to tell the technician that she did not like the makeup, and when I saw it, I told the technician that it absolutely didn't look right. The owner intervened at some point, and, GET THIS, told us that there wasn't anything they could do because "no matter what we do, she (my mother) won't be happy", saying this right in front of my mother too. It was so unprofessional and rude, and at that moment, I realized I would never return to Sass. She then had the nerve to let me know that she wouldn't be charging me for my mother's makeup. Meanwhile, the technician removed her makeup and my mother, in tears, decided she would do her own makeup back at the hotel. She left embarrassed and in tears. I could swallow the fact that the technician was unskilled and the make-up didn't go well, those things happen, but to have the owner show such attitude and unprofessionalism, especially in light of the delicate situation, was just really a huge disappointment. What I want to get across in this review is how unprofessional and disappointing the owner of this salon is. She cares very little about customer satisfaction and made no attempt to remedy the situation in a competent manner, on my wedding day, no less! In addition, I found the salon to be very disorganized and several of the staff members unprofessional in their manner of dress and the way they presented themselves. There are many better salons in the area that charge the same or cheaper prices where you will receive much better, and more professional, service. read more

I absolutely love Sass Salon! Bridget colors my hair every 6 weeks and it is all gorgeous! I went from very blonde to now a red head and it looks so natural! I also get multiple compliments on it. I love coming here to relax, drink some wine and have good conversion while I get my hair done! read more

Lauren cuts, shampoos, styles my hair and waxes my eyebrows every 3 weeks and she always does an amazing job. People always tell me how good my hair looks and how well groomed I look. I have to laugh every time I hear it because I don't really care, I just don't want to look sloppy and unkempt. You pay for what you get. read more

I only visited their salon because I purchased a promotion package and was turned away because I didn't mention the promotion when I scheduled, this alone made me not want to come back. When I asked to speak to owner she basically repeated in a very demeaning way that I was to mention promotion when I called and that I should feel lucky to have purchased this promotion that included a lot. I was made to feel so uncomfortable that I was in tears and the owner made no effort to resolve the situation....Instead she was very rude ....told me I was causing a scene... The promotion is what bought me in and they turned me away ...because I didn't mention when calling... not sure why it was such a big deal. Needless to say I will never set foot in this classless salon and will tell all my friends and family never to do so either. read more

Sass has changed it's location and still has yet to update their new address for anyone to look it up online or use their GPS if they need directions, they would show up at the old location. Their price hike for new stylists is absurd compared to other salons. My first time there I paid $50 for a haircut from a stylist that barely spoke to me. Thank goodness I had a photo to show of what I wanted because the last thing she wanted to do was have a conversation about what I wanted. I'm sure the rent of their new location is much cheaper than when they were on the Carlisle pike, but the new location is super inconvenient, especially when you have to figure out they've moved when you arrive at the old location because they won't update their new address with Google. A completely lackluster experience. Their attention to detail is a total letdown. read more

Went here for a couples spa day. Got a full body couples massage, exfoliating hydration wrap, and manicure, as well as a lunch. The staff was very friendly from start to finish. Made me and my girlfriend feel very welcome and explained everything really well. Rachael and Jen did our massages. Both of them were very professional and did a wonderful job. The whole hydration wrap and massage took place at the same time and lasted for about an hour and a half. Very relaxing atmosphere and a great massage!! After that we went into the waiting room and relaxed while we waited for our manicures. Got the manicures done. We had Jessica and Johna. Both of them did a very good job, I had never had a manicure done before but I enjoyed it. After that we had lunch, which was included in our package, and then left. Overall, a great day! I used a Local Flavor deal (half price) to get a therapeutic massage at SASS today and I walked out without the hip/thigh pain I had been feeling for two weeks. It was heaven!!! The therapist was Alysha and she took the time to listen attentively to an update of all my aches and pains and spent extra time on the sore areas. While she was working (with the deeper pressure that I requested), she gave me tips on how to work out sensitive areas at home with just a tennis ball. There was no pressure at all to book again to keep me pain free, but I intend to do just that!! The receptionist was very pleasant, service was prompt and Alysha was personable and willing to talk or just work quietly, based on my lead. She had a bottle of cold water waiting for me and I helped myself to the chex mix snack near the refreshment area on the first floor before I left. I have gifted my daughter and daughter in law with (half price) vouchers for services here, but I am thrilled I decided to treat myself this time. read more

I'm so very thankful that I have finally found a stylist that LISTENS to me! Julie took her time talking to me about what I wanted for my cut and color. I was a little nervous because I was doing a change but she helped me feel at ease! She gave the best shampoo I have ever had, ending with a little neck massage. That alone was worth the price! Though I have to say I thought the prices were very reasonable. I've paid more for services I didn't even like! i've been in so many places for massage & pedicure, this place is so not worth it at all i read all the reviews & everybody says they are good in massage, i was so disappointed....her hand pressure not so hard enough i suppose to have 1hour prenatal massage but she started 15min. late & stopped at 44min ... like i did not noticed ... really not fair, & the pedicure oh god basically she did not do anything to my feet ...next time i should go to hotels spa as i always do...that's a note to myself read more

I get my hair cut & colored here by the owner, Desiree. She has an eye for color and always knows just what would look perfect with my skin tone - not easy because of my super pale complexion! She and her staff are always upbeat, friendly, and they really listen to your needs. I like to try new looks and have tried quite a few. I've never left with a hair cut or color I didn't like. The service is outstanding and there are free drinks & power bars to boot! I'd prefer not to give ANY stars as I was totally man-handled at this salon...not THAT way, but I went in and I think it was BOB, not sure..(uses a chair to style--have no issue there) who did my hair. He didn't want to conversate unless it was him speaking and he was sooooo heavy handed I had to tell him that he was hurting my head. It started with the wash which was NOT pleasant at all and to me s/b very relaxing...then as he did my hair he kept grabbing at my head so hard that I walked out w/ a migraine that I had just been relieved of prior to walking in the doors...not only that, I had asked for a little more to come off after the initial trim and at my crown he nearly scalped me by leaving less than half an inch of hair on my head. He left longer hair around it and stood it up when he styled it (and the style was AWFUL) so I didn't notice till I got home and washed that awful style out. It took forever for me to have my hair grow out for me to even be able to use a 1/2 inch straight iron on most of it...and I had given him a $10 tip...disgusting! When someone tells you that you're hurting them MODIFY YOUR BEHAVIOR and if you don't like their instructions at least pawn them off on someone else rather than scalp them...it would save your reputation from a nasty review. WILL NEVER GO THERE AND WILL NEVER RECOMMEND!!! read more

My review is for the service I received today, 7/30/2015. When I first moved here 10 years ago, I went to Changes and a couple other places - Deuce Gibb, then just ended up at Hair Cuttery because it was quicker to get in and not as expensive. Today I decided to make a last minute appointment at Sass. I found a couple photos with styles I liked and printed them. I entered Sass and was immediately greeted and offered refreshment by the nice young man at the reception area. After a while my stylist, Jessica, came out and I showed her my photos and explained that I understood if she couldn't do the same thing with my wavy hair but that I was wanting something like the photo. She said she felt she could replicate it and then proceeded with confidence into giving me a great, short cut that didn't feel like I was being scalped, that still has feminine touches and the long angled bangs I have been wanting. Usually when I arrive home from a cut and style I wash my hair immediately to get the product and little cut hairs off, but I am so happy with my hair - after YEARS of wanting this style. I would recommend Jessica to anybody. In fact, something else new for me - I already made a follow up for early September. read more

I received a great haircut and massage from Sass (thanks Lauren and Carla). There was a billing issue when I checked out, but the manager did follow-up on my call later in the week to fix the problem. I would recommend building in some extra time for your appointment in case they are running late, but it's hard to get too upset about delays when they serve you beer and wine while you wait. read more

I love Connor. He was awesome. He's so friendly and he gives me a great cut everytime. He listens. I tell him to go easy on the layers. Price is fab! $35 including tip. I don't know about the rest since i've never tried them but I'm sure they're good. read more

My sister-in-law and I were to meet at Sass on the 16th to have our hair done for my wedding that day. When we arrived they asked if my sister-in-law, Donna, my matron of honor, had canceled her appointment the day before. She had not but they had a Dawn or Donna Miller call and cancel the appointment...they in turn did cancel my sister-in-law's appointment! Okay, so I was given Brittany, who gave me a very nice hair style. Then they fit Donna in with a young woman (don't know her name). I had to leave to pick up my dress and met Donna at the church later on. She came into the church with her hair looking terrible. I said to her, "what happened to your hair?" She said that this was how it looked when she left the salon! She said "I look like a drowned rat!" Yes she did. I tried to work on her hair for her with some spray and trying to bring some body back to it. She has been going thru chemotherapy and wanted some extra help with her hair that day to make it look fuller and styled nicely. Well, that didn't happen. I called day before yesterday and asked to talk to the owner, the receptionist asked who I was and what this was about. I told him and he asked if it was okay if he discussed this with the store manager. I said yes. Well, I did not get a call back from anyone, so this is why I am writing this now. I wanted to be compensated for Donna's appointment. They failed her on two levels. It was a big deal for us. I am so disappointed for her sake. I will never go back there again. read more

This salon doesn't even dissever a star! I was a client until this happened. Sass salon has a horrible staff and environment! The pedicure room is not clean WHAT SO EVER!!!! After soaking for 25min (and was wondering if anyone new i was there!) I looked at the dirty floor that had toe nail clippings that made me feel GREAT and tools that looked dirty! My technician was clearly stressed because she rushed through my pedi and made me bleed do to poor skills (or she was rushing) Because what happened next was I had to go to my doctors a couple days later because my big toe swelled up with PUSS! I wonder if they use a disinfectant in their bath I did not see anyone put anything in it??? Environmental Protection Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says they should have a fact sheet on preventing infections from salon foot spas. To reduce the risk of infection from bacteria that can grow in foot spas, salons should use an EPA-registered hospital disinfectant between each customer, and nightly, and according to the directions, which usually call for 10 minutes of disinfection, according to the government groups. So with that said I WILL NEVER GIVE MY BUSINESS TO THIS SALON EVER AGAIN! IT IS A DIRTY SALON CANNOT BELIEVE I WENT THEIR FOR SO LONG!!!!!!!!!!! read more

WORST place for Nails!! DO NOT GO HERE! I went to Sass to get my nails done for my wedding and as soon as i walked out of the salon one nail broke & I had to go back in and have her fix it. I got tips with pink and white. The next day, on my wedding day, another one broke and I wasn't even doing anything that should have caused that. I have NEVER broken an acrylic nail. I went to get it fixed before I left for my honeymoon and the girl could not believe the terrible job she did. They were uneven, the pink was mixed with white and she did not even put a topcoat on!! She asked me if a student did my nails. Then, on the honeymoon just a few days later, they all started breaking off. I had to find someone to remove them in a foreign country and they also couldn't believe the terrible job she did. I paid way too much for such a terrible job and to have this occur during my wedding and honeymoon was VERY upsetting, not to mention they looked so bad I had to hide them in close up wedding photos. Now, my nails are damaged from them breaking off and I cannot put new ones on until they grow out. They hire amateurs here and the salon is not well organized, either. The girl couldn't get her glue open and no one else had any. VERY unprofessional and they should be embarrassed. read more
