I love everything about this place except for one thing -- the wait time for your food. Other than that, I love the atmosphere and local feel. I love people watching through the large windows and the downtown location. There's plenty of street parking and nearby lots available for easy access. I fell in love with the Monte sandwich on my first visit and haven't looked back. It is a huge sandwich, definitely big enough that you can get full on half of it and save the other half for another meal. The bread is perfection. I have tried many of their soups, and the creamy turkey tarragon was excellent today. I'd love for it to come with some crackers, but it's also perfectly delicious on its own. I 74 has an exit to Crawfordsville, it's noon I check the Yelp app for a cozy cafe..easy to find, parking was accessible for our class B camper van, we likey already.. Greeted with a smile, very chic environment, simple short menu which always means good food.. I ordered 1/2 a roast beef with spinach and a garden full of mushrooms with melted Swiss.. yum.. got a side salad Hubby got 1/2 Philly steak and he told me I had done a good job choosing this restaurant. I recommend they need some fab coffee ( just a Keurig with a good selection) and some type of dessert like selections of sherbets. Food was fantastic. This would have surely be a 4 or 5 star BUT, while there the manager or owner was walking around talking only to his friends, acting like he was being helpful. If your not a friend of the manager / owner (whichever he is) you feel like your getting the cold shoulder. All this while talking down to, belittling, and making obviously arrogant and egotistical jokes about his obviously annoyed waitress, it was uncomfortable to everyone who saw. Dining is a full experience: personality differences aside keep it behind closed doors and focus on the customers experience. I was hungry and traveling through Crawfordsville and did not want something out of a window! I was intrigued by the Beef Sriracha wrap, made with beef, like you would find in a cheesesteak, sriracha mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato and PEANUTBUTTER!! What!?! I had to try it, and not only was I not disappointed, I loved it!!! I will definitely be returning, may even make a special trip from Lafayette. I had such high expectations that were unfortunately not met, though there were some high notes. We used to love and frequently patronize A-Country-A-Fair and so I was psyched when I learned about A-SecondCity Cafe. I was in the mood for a medianoche/Cubano sandwich and past reviews have said this is the place. We stopped in for a mid-week lunchtime meal and snagged a table. The atmosphere is simple and clean, and there are many small wooden tables and lots of light. The rotating menu showed a tuna melt special and a tomato vegetable soup for the day. As a sucker for soup, I instantly knew my side for my Cuban sandwich. Mom decided to split my sandwich with me and add a southwest salad with chicken added and bleu cheese dressing on the side. Our sever was very cheerful and friendly, and made sure our waters stayed filled. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, so I cannot say we had the same experience as other posters who complained about the wait time. The salad was very pretty with black beans, corn, cilantro, tomato, and a hearty serving of chicken. I will say I was disappointed to see that it was iceberg lettuce and not something like a mesclun mix or at least a bib lettuce. I hate paying for a salad as a main dish with iceberg. As someone who despises ranch dressing, I was hesitant to try the bleu cheese dressing. My mom confirmed it tasted suspiciously like ranch, despite assurances from the server that it was indeed bleu cheese. Overall, she was happy with the salad, though she shared my sentiments about the lettuce and the dressing. On to my food. The soup was simply disappointing. It had no depth of flavor that I love from tomato soup, and as much as I hate to say it, it sort of tasted like Campbell's tomato soup that someone had mixed a bag of frozen veggies into. I remember the soups from A country-a-fair and I was so looking forward to the soup. The sandwich had highs and lows: the pork was very tender, flavorful and juicy, the ham was flavorful, and the top of the bread was crunchy and flakey. However, that delicious pork soaked the bottom bread and it was positively soggy by even my first bite, and I missed the effect that medianoches and Cuban sandwiches both have where they are pressed in a plancha to get the top and the bottom flat and crispy. I also thought it needed more mustard, and pickles so that you got some with each bite. The sandwich was huge and I wasn't able to finish, but I did eat all of the pork. Overall, we left full and were satisfied with the meal as a whole. I would certainly come back for a pulled pork sandwich and to try other options as I know that the chef has skills, but that day I just wasn't wowed. read more

This adorable cafe in Crawfordsville was exactly what we were looking for yesterday! The interior is much bigger than you would think from outside and the walls are covered in beautiful artwork. They have a great menu full of yummy sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, and daily specials that are all decently priced. I ordered their Turkey Avocado Melt with their Tomato Basil Soup, which I ate right up! My husband also went for the soup, but chose the Monte instead, being the big meat eater that he is. It's a warm sandwich with pepperoni, sliced beef, ham, cheese, and tomato. He loved his as well. They don't have a children's menu but they had a half grilled cheese with chips that worked great for our little one. They do have high chairs though, so they are expecting children! Our bill was $27 for the three of us and I thought it was well worth the food we received. We will definitely return for more. Super tasty! read more

Hoosier Daddy! A charmer that we went about 15 minutes out of our way for and none of us were sorry! Very fresh and tasty sandwiches! My Cubano was as good as I've had north of Tampa. My buddy went for the Sriracha beef wrap with peanut butter and yep it works! I'm not sure which SecondCity they're referring to in the name: it really isn't reminiscent of, say, the venerable big city comedy troupe or even the big city itself. We love coming here, and we absolutely agree that our waitress and the food here deserve 5 stars -- but while we were waiting for our food, the owner, who was a much larger and intimidating man; came out and started berating his waitress about watering plants, throwing the f-word around and blaming her for the plants having dry soil, saying things like those plants belonged to his mother and if she kills them he hopes his mother haunts her for ""the rest of her f-ing life"". if the plants are so important to you, take two seconds out of your workday to water them -- or take them home. there's no need to yell at your waitress on the floor in front of customers over plants. Like I said, we love the food and she's always friendly and cheerful to interact with, so we hate to see her being treated like that. We stopped here when driving back to Indy and were very happy with our choice of restaurant. The food was delicious, the servings were generous, and the staff was extremely friendly. I have been dreaming of Cubans ever since I got the Cubano from here. Service was a little slow, but we were in at exactly the lunch hour rush, so I can't really blame them for that. The food 100% makes up for it! We both had the Cubano with side salads. My salad was the southwestern and I ate it all, even the avocado which I don't normally eat. Such a difficult review. The food is pretty good, the value...not so much. I was hovering around 3-4 stars, and then something inexplicable happened. We stepped outside for a moment and went to the ATM. Then I realized I had forgotten something: HALF a sandwich (I ordered the whole instead of the half, knowing I couldn't eat it all but planning to take it home) had been boxed up. So we walked back over, and they were closed--30 minutes early. Look, I get it. Sometimes business is slow. Sometimes you've had a long day and want to cut out early if no one is there. But this place is hardly ever open. They're now listed as being open 4 hours per day (it may have been even less when this happened). It's surreal seeing staff ghost at 3:30 p.m., especially when you clean up and realize someone left a to-go box on the table not 5 minutes earlier. We knocked...nothing. We called...nothing. I probably would've been more understanding if the returned the call, at least. read more

Glad we stopped in here! Had an hour to kill before the Wabash Men's Basketball game. Menu had a nice variety of sandwiches, wraps and salads. I highly recommend the Avocado Melt! I went with a half sandwich and garden salad. Now that I've had the A-melt I would just order the whole sandwich next time. It was delicious!
