I mean the store is nice with a decent collection. It looks like a mother- daughter owner. I respect the small business hustle. It's mainly a women's store so I sat down as a silent observer while my wife browsed the racks. The old lady seemed to be spotting people and telling her daughter to keep eyes on them. It's street fair season, so I get it when large crowds come in. The old lady politely helped a tall blonde women, asking her if she wanted to try things on, flattering her. When my wife came around who is Asian and was browsing just the same as the other woman, the older lady approached my wife " what are you going to browse every rack?!" In a very naggy tone line she was handing my wife her hat to say. My wife responded saying she has a lovely collection. The own lady said well I select everything and buy it and pay rent. It's my store. I don't know if she had trauma or something but the variance in approaches was pretty stark. Hand your business over to your kid. It's nice. But you're driving people away reading other commenters. It's nice. You're not. Maybe there's a John Tapper bar rescue type person for retailers.

Love this shop! We had a short wait to enter due to the pandemic and needing to socially distance, but once in we found so many nice things! They carry clothes, jewelry, face masks, handbags, sun glasses, reading glasses, and several other accessories. My daughter wanted a new backpack purse and couldn't decide between a few, all leather, that were all $58. (These are all new, not used.) She then saw one with several zipper compartments hanging higher up, and the owner offered it to her for $38! We also got a cute face mask and I got a great pair of large framed reading glasses. We definitely plan to return!

Secret Closet is the best place in Lincoln Square. Thank your stars it's still there.

5 stars Here we have one of the most dedicated, long-living merchant spots in Lincoln Square. I've lived here for 25 years, and this is my favorite of the entire neighborhood. Bravo Secret Closet! I LOVE you! Always will. Thanks for all of the years.

One day I finally had time and went out of my way just to come back to peruse this store. Upon entering, no one greeted me, which is not a great start. A simple greeting can go a long way to acknowledge your customers and to make them feel welcomed. I slowly scanned each section, and I noticed at one point one of the employees came to the section I was ogling, but still did not acknowledge my presence. At that time a couple of ladies entered the store and were immediately greeted with "welcome in! Let us know if we can help you with anything!" I made my way around the store finally browsing the area near the register. The 2 sales people at the register never said a word to me. Other customers were coming in, some getting greeted, depending on their nationality is what it seemed like. In the end I spent about 20 minutes in the store and might as well have been invisible. Hopefully they learn to be better and greet customers of all colors. Three salespeople and not even one "hi" is not acceptable. In hindsight it seems that the employee that came up to the section I was at was probably to making sure I wasn't stealing?

We were shocked, confused, and honestly embarrassed, in public for something we didn't do. They didn't ask politely or explain anything. They just assumed. No proof. No apology. nothing We cooperated and showed them we had nothing, and instead of admitting their mistake, they gave us attitude and let us go like we were guilty. This kind of treatment is completely unacceptable, especially when you treat young customers like criminals just because we're teens or don't "look" like your usual shoppers. We came to shop, not to be profiled or harassed. I will not be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone who values basic respect.

She is on the phone. "Hi, may I take a quick picture?"…read moreI asked politely. The lady responded, "no photo, goodbye." While this short poem pretty much sums up my 30-second visit at Oriental Boutique, it is also an acrostic that describes the lady's attitude and the service. I was looking for a traditional Chinese dress (i.e. Qi Pao) for my girlfriend, whom I am going to marry. However, most of the designs cater to kids or tourists (that might explain why most positive reviews were written by non-Asian customers... just saying!) and very few of them are for adults. As someone who grew up in an ethnically Chinese background, I had seen and worn more culturally authentic and better designed traditional gowns and dresses. Many designs displayed in the store seem "oriental" in a western sense or as in what westerners think "oriental" should look like, but this is just my subjective observation and honest opinion. The lady was on the phone all the time, and when I asked her question, she literally answered, "no photo, goodbye." Okay. BYE. NEVER AGAIN! Wish I could have given a zero or a negative number.
