Delightful little Chicago-centric boutique! This small business sells works by local Chicago artists that touch Chicago hearts. Many of the little trinkets make references to the many things we love about Chicago. It's a great place to buy gifts for friends. There's a pretty wide range of prices for items but I feel that everything is fairly priced, especially given that they're not mass produced! The cashier was super sweet and accommodating and offered to wrap up the items I had planned of gifting to friends. They prefer cash and charge a 3% service fee on cards. read more

Okay this place is incredible. A tiny nook that is FILLED with awesome, eclectic trinkets, home goods, and decor. It was insane. Every inch of this place has unique gifts. Some of it edgy, some of it traditional, some of it is just completely off the rails. I loved it all. The workers are just amazing people. Every person that walked through the door was asked how they were doing with sincerity by the owner. I stocked up on some decals and patches by local artists. The prices were good. I've been to Wolf Bait a number of times and always love their stuff. A friend has her anatomic artwork there. I love that it's unique. Chicago based artists for a number of, if not nearly everything. This latest trip I bought the greatest tea filter thermos thing (- words) and a unique coffee cup (that I buy for every new coworker.) Well I buy a version of it from the same artist. Also, they let me take the last sweater (which hat I had to have) off a mannequin! In all honesty, this is really not my kind of store. My wife saw this and jumped at the chance to look inside. In all honesty, there were some very interesting things to look at. They have everything for the Wiccan novice. But, they have a very wide selection of fun items, clothing, fashion accessories, etc. We left with a fun T-Shirt and a candle, which it would not be appropriate to describe - but it certainly is unique. While I don't see myself shopping here regularly, I have some friends who I would send here in a heartbeat. And, I can certainly see myself buying fun gifts for family and friends here. read more

A big selection of all the esoteric things you didn't know you needed, from funky earrings to funny magnets to baby onesies to offbeat Chicago souvenirs. Everything is made locally and carefully curated by the owner, who is usually there. I've gotten a few things I wear regularly and love there. Last time I was in, I saw a pair of earrings (slices of real, preserved orange slices!) that hung lower than I wanted and one of the sweet employees helpfully changed the findings out for me so the earrings were as short as I wanted. I always like to get some type of memento from every place I visit--usually a piece a jewelry or small knick knack that reminds me of my visit. This place was exactly what I was looking for. Tons of beautiful handmade jewelry by local artists and designers. It was hard narrowing down my selection because I wanted everything! I really like that they support local designers, it's a female-owned business, and is fair-trade. Wolfbait has something for everyone. Located in the up and coming neighborhood of Logan Square, you can stop in and browse before you dine in one of the many excellent restaurants Logan Square has to offer. They have all sorts of Chicago themed products, from t-shirts to soaps. My personal favorites are their candles and bath and body products. Wolfbait also has two in house brands, Bruiser and Brazen Judy. If you come in at the right time you can see the two owners constructing the garments. Everything is more pricey, but it is all made by local artists, which makes it worth purchasing. The place is small, but they do a good job of managing the space they have. Bottom line: If you love purchasing local or ever need a cute Chicago gift for someone, Wolfbait is the place to go. read more

I've always loved Wolfbait. However, recently, I went in there after having to put down my 17 year old cat. My heart was broken and I was just trying to occupy myself. The person working asked if I was okay, they asked if I needed a hug. They were kind and thoughtful and while I maybe seemed dismissive at the time because I was trying not to cry in public, it meant the world to me. Everything about this store is perfect, though. I like the eclectic items for sale in this boutique store! There is an overriding theme of "Chicago" which is perfectly awesome for the casual Chicago shopper. Most recently I was able to purchase a neat print of the various Chicago sports teams- it was an artist's take on the mascots. My words cannot do the art justice other than to say that I would have paid about 50%-57% more for the piece. My purchase also included a small button that has the Chicago flag as the background and "HOME" in the foreground and a Chicago-style embroidered patch. In past visits I have purchased neat postcards to send friends and relatives- that show a different side of Chicago. You can purchase a shirt of the Mayor giving the "bird" with his shortened finger. This is right around the corner from Lulu Cafe and Longman & Eagle, so if there is a small wait for brunch just stop in and take a look! read more

I can tell about all the cool local gifts they have at this store, but that would kind of ruin the fun of it. The search is part of the experience. You'll find so many things that you'd buy for someone as a gift that you didn't intend to when you walked in. Gotta be one of the better stores in the city to waste a half hour of time and $20 at. There's tons of creative local stuff so it's an excellent stop for holiday shopping. The ladies that own Wolfbait are really nice and they even make most of the clothing you'll find here themselves. First off, let me start by saying that I am a Chicago textile designer and am completely thrilled with Wolfbait. I think the most amazing thing about all these negative reviews is the people complaining about a women owned, independent business being bad for the area. My polish grandmother has been living in Logan Square off the blvd since the 1930's. She still lives in the same house. When she heard that she could go see her granddaughters art work at a store within walking distance she was thrilled. She didn't say "oh, how terrible for the area". We walked there together, and she finally saw that all those years of art school taught me something. Gentrification isn't as easy as people want to make it. And reading that people are so upset that some smart women, started a business in this area blows my mind. It also blows my grandmothers mind that people are complaining about progress in an area where she once almost took 1,000 for her house because it was so dangerous. Eh. If I made $15K more/year I might be able to afford most things in this place. I came in to check out the jewelry, specifically the necklaces, and found them to be $42 for plastic beads and fake gold. If I knew where to find the plastic beads they used, I'd just make the damn thing myself for about $7. And I know how much time it takes to make something like that, and it's not $35 worth of labor. I like the idea of stores like this, but in general, I find them to be extremely overpriced (I'm talking about a lot of things at Renegade, too). But I guess we can't all be rich. This teeny, but awesome shop has a variety of clothing and accessories by local artists and crafters. Even stuff for babies. Babies do need clothing too, who knew? The jewelry was particularly cute, and I found it pretty affordable. I bought some earrings which incorporated images from vintage postcards. Sadly some of the clothing was a bit steep for me these days. I did see a very adorable jacket though. Back to the thrift store for me... I love this store. Why does Logan Square have such cool boutiques!?! After picking up my glasses, I stopped by here. Upon entering, local handmade jewelry entranced me. Throughout the shop, there's so many cool, fun things from onesies to handmade cards. Yeah, this store is awesome. On my first visit, I got coffee sleeves from SnarkySleeves. I love having cup sleeves that say "Boobs" "My Husband is Hot" and so many more. On my second visit there, I bought a necklace I oogled over. The owner told me that the jewelry changes often, so keep coming back to see other cool pieces. I saw some nice earrings from my SIL aka Christmas shopping time. On this same visit, I picked up a few cards and a cute piece of Logan Square artwork. I can't wait to put up our California Blue Line stop sign as part of our neighborhood artwork collection. So, in two visits, I found so many great items for local artists. I can't wait to go back to check out new jewelry collections or other fun baby gift items or wedding gifts. read more

The notebooks made with old board game boards are the coolest thing I've seen in while. $20 for a notebook may sound like a lot, but it's a lot cooler than those Mead things from Target. The Candyland and Monopoly ones were adorable. Wolfbait & B-girls is full of unique merchandise, most if not all is handmade. The jewelry is unique, much of it made from "rough" materials. The jewelry is somewhere between reasonably priced to expensive. If you are looking for something unique and like vintage-looking gold tones, stones, malachite, pearl, then you'll love it here. Looking for unique Chicago souvenirs? This is a better bet than any cheesy shop on Michigan or State. The t-shirts are all made from the softest cotton, featuring screenprints of the city and sports teams. There is a small variety of clothing, much of it is from the Squasht label. I bought a Squasht dress last summer and I LOVE it. I wasn't really into a lot of the pieces here though. And like many other boutiques, Wolfbait has a section of locally made soy candles. I was able to browse freely without being pestered at all, which I love. read more

This has to be one of the raddest stores I've had the pleasure of discovering. I was in town covering Riotfest for Racket. My girlfriend, not surprisingly, told me I should bring her a souvenir. While she probably would have been happy with a snow globe (in fact that's all she kept talking about), that's just not something I'm into. I asked myself "how can I find something cool and chic that is Chicago specific?" I pulled out my phone, opened the yelp app and did a search for shopping/women. Wolfbait & b-girls was one of the first two results. I started reading reviews, and what do I find they sell? Why, clothing and jewelry made right in the windy city by Chicago artists. Can you say gold mine? I knew this was the spot. Caught the bus down and stepped in. an unassuming storefront, two wonderful ladies chatting away about this and that. I start perusing the biggest clothing rack, and it doesn't take long before I'm offered some assistance. They ask what occasion brings me into their store, and upon hearing, the help gets really good. They're asking what her likes are, what she's into, etc. I tell them I'm leaning toward jewelry. They show me all kinds of cool stuff. One of the owners offers to drop 20% off an expensive necklace to keep it under my budget, which she previously asked about. Ultimately, I decide on a kickass necklace, a set of earrings to match, and a set for everyday wear...they're 38 special bullets...total price? $100.97. Is that expensive? Not really, considering the limited quantities in existence, their origin, the fact that they're handmade, so on and so forth. The owner modeled the necklace for me, went over the numerous ways it can be worn twice so I could remember to show the missus. I just can't say enough about my experience...I will be back, probably every time I return to Chicago. read more

Liked the unique and reasonably priced jewelry. Fell in love with several handbags/designers--will be going back to stock up later this summer! The clothes, however, seemed almost an afterthought--and not as fashion-forward as I would like--or maybe too fashion-forward! A lot of the pieces were designed to be "inside out." it is difficult to justify spending a couple hundred dollars on a piece of clothing that might only be good to wear to a show the one time a year your band is in town. The artwork on the walls is also for sale--and changes every 1 1/2 months or so. read more

A very artistically driven boutique that has a lot of unique, hand-made items. A lot of Illinois and Chicago based items, clothing, and decor that is nice for tourists. The prices are difficult for the average person, and costs into labor and materials for handmade items causes the prices to be pseudo-inflated. Makes it difficult to spend $90.00 - $120.00 for handmade jewelry that has $20.00 into materials. Markups based on the item being handmade is somewhat deceitful. read more

I was in the last minute hurry for something decent to wear and since I'm in bit of a time crunch to go shopping downtown, I looked up places in my neighborhood and Wolfbait had the most good reviews. I go there and realize the clothes were so pricey, it was ridiculous! I'm also a few pounds extra so trying on the bigger sizes were a disaster too since they were ALL ill-fitting. They had decent jewelry and other things but I've honestly seen and been to better local designer shops. I felt awful but had no choice but to spend a bomb on a very midocre dress while I will have to alter and make a few changes myself before my event. Sigh. Easily one of the most disappointing shopping experiences ever! read more
