Honestly hands down one of the best thrift boutiques. I went in today after hitting up a few thrift stores around the area. This was my second time coming after a long time. The first time I went I was able to snag a cute Max Studios dress. Today I was able to snag two really cute dress for under $5 for both! One of the employees saw me browsing and told me about their color tag discounts. Today I went their green tags were 90% off! And blue tags are 75% off. I found this business when I was looking for places with 2nd hand maternity clothes. It had very good reviews but I did not realize that they were for the store as a whole and not specifically as a source for maternity clothes. The day we went they had a very small selection. I was not super impressed with what was available. In short this may be a great location for regular clothes but call before you go to find out what they have in maternity. read more

I debated between one and two stars. Went there the other day and this place is expensive. Their used Eileen Fisher items are what you'd pay retail for new at Nordstrom Rack. They were selling an off brand bag for $25. When I searched Poshmark, the same bag was listed for $10. I love the concept of recycling and really try to buy secondhand as much as possible but this place was too expensive. I cannot in good faith pay close to retail for used items and in many cases over fair market value. Also, they need a new eye for whoever is in charge of merchandising. Some of the clothing is heavily used with overly faded colors. Bummer. I really wanted to buy the bag local but not at a 100% mark up. read more

First time being here in My Sister's Closet Resale after seeing it in Yelp. The store looks amazing, it was pretty big, clean, not really organized but it was totally fine for me and there are seriously a lot of different stuffs inside. It is just a small retail store but I was just amazed since I typically go in a department store for clothes and all. There is a lot of wonderful stuff that includes clothes, hats, baskets, accessories and even jewelries. I enjoyed choosing on the rack of clothes and it was a bit hard because everything is in random. It has a pretty good quality of cloth and good designs too. I choose few items and there is an available fitting room. I fitted all of it and it was not that bad and in fact it was almost the same on what I get on other department stores. I bought a lot and was so happy with my purchase. Prices are fair and reasonable. read more

Free parking in the back! Went to this place for the first time today and not new to consignment/used clothes stores. There's so many good finds I ended up trying a ton of clothes and brought 7 items for around $60. I agree with the comments here saying the store is pretty disorganized and the staff don't greet you and all. But I'm totally fine with that, they don't pressure you by asking how you're doing every 5minutes. I feel like it's nice to take my time and look around different sizes anyway (like buying a size up or two for a chunky sweater look). I noticed all the XS and M sizes are at the top racks so generally well organized just not by categories all the time. Fitting room and the store are very clean. The store itself is SO big. I was blown away after I thought I was done, there was another half of the store I didn't notice. Selection seems to be good for all ages- teenagers, young working professionals and older groups. Prices are fair, I wouldn't say a total steal on average but still any better than department stores and it's great for the environment. Definitely recommend and I'll be back! read more

This place has definitely been one of my "forever" places - meaning I'll always go back. I love the atmosphere in this store and the quality of the items. The sales are just as amazing when they occur. If you're in the area, definitely check it out. My favorite items, because I'm Muslim, are definitely the scarves. Vibrant colors and quality unlike anything I've seen. I bought an olive green one for less than a dollar when the color tag was 90% off!!! Let me tell you, there's nothing like the rush you get from buying something you loved for a lot cheaper than you thought. I was prepared to pay way more for it and got a happy surprise at the counter. If you're into gently used clothing, don't look any further. Designer brands and brands you won't find in a regular store are all over the place, so you get a variety of unique pieces that really spice up your outfit. The better jewelry is a bit too expensive for my wallet, but I can't turn my eyes away. Buying one really sturdy and gorgeous piece is definitely better than buying, say, a hundred pieces from Forever 21 that just rust after wearing it once. Especially if one considers that the resale item is significantly lower priced than if it were new. The only non-positive thing I'd say about the store is that it's disorganized. I'm no professional, but I love to organize anything and everything. If there's a job opening, I'd definitely consider it because any time I'm there, I'm itching to reorder everything to make it look prettier lol. Otherwise, I love listening to the women who work there chatter with each other and with their customers. The rapport you feel between them is soothing for some obscure reason and makes the whole store come alive. It's definitely a place I'll always go back to! For the first time, I visited this shop with my wife, and I was completely taken surprised by the variety of products on display inside. When we passed by this shop, we decided to go inside because there were some adorable children's clothes. We have three children, and we can already picture those clothes being worn by our adorable little ones. We found some lovely and reasonably priced clothing in this boutique, and my wife was delighted with her purchases. It also helps that the staff is accommodating, so we had no problems while we were inside the store. The store appears to be fantastic, it is spacious and clean, but I have noticed that it is not particularly well organized; however, this was not a problem for me, as there are numerous items to choose from inside the store. The selection includes clothing, hats, baskets, accessories, and even jewelries in addition to a variety of other items. Although it was a little difficult because everything is arranged in a random manner, I enjoyed picking out clothes from the rack. We made a large number of purchases and were extremely pleased with our purchases. read more

One of the better resale shops I've been to. If you're a fashionista, or aspiring to be one, this is a cheap way to acquire some decent pieces. Some of the brands I saw here: Three Dots, Marc Jacobs, Cynthia Rowley, Prada, J. Lo, Sweet Pea, Laundry by Shelli Segal, Diesel, Chico's, Express, by Joseph, DKNY, Karen Kane, Sutton by Bloomingdale and Betsey Johnson. Everything I saw was in good condition - nothing ripped or stained. Womens clothing is sorted by size and color (all the mediums in the reddish tone are grouped together, for instance). They have maternity clothes, baby/kids clothes, shoes, purses, toys and housewares. There are some treasures to be found here. If you sign up on their mailing list, you'll get notice of sales and sample sales (a sales woman told me their biggest sale, on Super Bowl Sunday - 50% off the lowest price of everything - is not advertised). read more

I have been here a few times and the only thing I ever buy is something new! It is in my EDGEBROOK neighborhood, not Lincolnwood. I keep thinking it will be better. Good, not great, selection of jewelry. But, pricey and I'm not cheap! I have brought items here and I have no idea what their criteria is because I shop at Nordstrom, Ann Taylor, Chicos and what I consider good stores and it seems want my Target finds more. Forget what I've said before were my favorite stores, this is the best resale shop I have ever been to. For years I've admired my girlfriend's Anthropologie-like boho chic finds from here but never made it over. I often find consignment shops overpriced, dated and disorganized. This one is none of that. The clothes are all practically new and, for the most part, up to date. I especially like the Chico's rack. It has more selection than the clearance rack at an actual Chico's. I bought 8 blouses and jackets for casual Fridays at work and spent $90. The most expensive item was a like-new $14 Chico Jacket that originally sold for about $100. I am not sure the younger 20 somethings are going to like this place. The neighborhood and the store are for a bit older crowd. Also, the two staff working didn't seem to like each other at all and were kind of rude to each other which was wierd. read more

I went back after not having been there in a few years. I used to be a regular customer. While the ownership is the same, the merchandise has definitely changed. Previously I bought a lot of good quality casual clothes like jeans, cotton t-shirts from brands like Gap, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, etc. Now the merchandise is more expensive, dressier, more middle-age clothes. If you need a dressy suit jacket for an interview you could find it here. Gone are the racks of jeans I loved. I was hoping to find a purse, only saw 2 on the floor. I think the others are under lock and key as they're expensive brands. I ended up leaving with nothing. Free parking in the back is a plus. read more

Update: I take back my comment on the ease of the consignment policy. And they really need to get their shit organized elsewhere, not on the retail floor. If it isn't for sale, don't put it on a fucking rack and then harp at me for not knowing it wasn't for sale. I'm surprised they haven't been shut down for fire code violations, with all the disorganized mess clogging the aisles. These old biddys can go to hell. In fact, I'm so pissed, I'm not sure I'll shop there anymore. I've shopped consignment and thrift and all sorts of resale all over the country since I was a kid. This is by far the best I've ever been to. I spend an average of $12 an item, which is kinda pricey for used, but the names, current styles, and super organization of styles, colors, sizes make it worth it. I love this place! I agree that some items are overpriced but that can be the case at any resale shop, sign up for their emails and you will get notices for their sales, which can be phenomenal! Also, I guarantee you that most of the people that complained about the prices did not notice that they have color tag discounts like they do at Village. Big difference is the quality of items, My Sister's Closet is meticulous about the items they take. You will not get any stained, ripped, broken products like you can get at some resale shops. I have been here many times and always get great deals and service, most clothes have been like new that I have purchased. I felt like I was among friends with the friendly nature of all the women who work there and the owner's daughter -- all of whom were sooo warm and helpful. I stopped in 2 Sundays ago and was not greeted by one person. 2 ladies were talking the entire time and did not even acknowledge me. Then I went into the dress area and again not a word but ladies chatting. They were working as they chatted but I was terribly surprised. I'm only saying this so the owner is aware. I can't even think of words to express how much I love this store. Usually, I'm not really a consignment kind of girl and I prefer to go to the Burberry/Chanel/whatever store to purchase my items brand new, but I've found a new love for this store. I came here searching for a costume for my character in the play I'm in, because I'm playing Susan in the production of Don't Drink the Water (by Woody Allen). I needed some '60s-looking or authentic '60s clothing and had no idea where to start. The owner Joanne was extremely helpful, considering she lived through the '60s and knew what all the fashion trends were. I love this shop! They buy things from my closet (and we all have brand new items never worn or worn once, right?) and I have never not found a bargain while I am shopping there. They are expanding their shop, so plenty of dressing rooms. There is always a sale, you just hunt for the sale colors (clothing tag colors indicate 10%, 20%, 30% discounts, etc.). I have gotten cocktail dresses, great jeans, jewelry and many trendy tops there. From sidewalk sales to academy award parties, it's a fun place to shop. They have a sharp eye for current trends and great clothes and the owner and staff work hard to keep it organized. Found a great piece of silver jewelry there the other day (missed the Mother's Day weekend jewelry sale but it was still a bargain). Have fun! I like the setup of the place and it's clean but the service is pretty shitty to say the least. I walked in in person and there is no clear way to tell where you can drop off items and no one greeted or anything until I asked. the way they treat you seems like you're a piece of scum or something and they have a stick up their behind. I can't really explain it (it might be their tone of voice). I say their because there is more than one woman. I was placed on a waiting list and called to check if I am up to be able to drop stuff off and the person that responded was rude. She said no before I finished speaking and had that same tone. I would suggest for them to try to be a little more courteous to people walking in and placing some signs indicating where to drop stuff off if they don't want to make the effort to speak to people stopping by that did not look at the website or are unfamiliar with the store. read more

I have yet to visit them since they expanded, but I look forward to doing so soon. As far as the ladies: very pleasant. Over-priced junk. I really don't get the positive reviews. This is a resale shop for old ladies. I drove out here because I heard they have maternity clothes. They have a few, but most of it is hideous. I didn't find a thing I could wear. My friend and I browsed the rest of the selection as well. They may have designer labels on some of their clothes, but everything is overpriced and butt ugly. They were charging $20 for a shrug sweater from Anthropologie. Are you kidding me? I was thoroughly unimpressed and would prefer sifting through the piles of crap at Village Thrift than trying to find something cute at this place. If you want high quality second-hand clothing, just shop on eBay instead. This place really isn't worth the drive out to the NW side. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this store. I had read some of the reviews, which weren't super positive so I wasn't really that excited about this place. After years of driving by this place, I finally stopped in. I really, really liked it! Granted, it's a little more "pricey" than the resale shops I'm used to. However, I'm used to those bargain basement crazy warehouse places where things are messy and under $5. This place had a variety of items from $7-$50 but, I have to say, it was clean, quiet and organized. Plus, they did a great job selecting more quality / brand name merchandise so you are paying for the benefit of not having to search through a bunch of ugly stuff. I got a really nice pair of New York and Co. dressy / work capri pants, a Rue 21 blouse and a George (Walmart's career separates line) all for $25. Really not bad. That's averaging $8 a piece -a small "higher" price to pay for quality clothing. I would definitely revisit this store. They have some really nice stuff! read more

for being in the suburbs, i guess this place is okay. the people that work their are quite a bit older, so it only makes sense that the selection is going to run more along the lines of chicos and coldwater creek. the maternity section is about 3' long and consists mostly of XL-XXL sizing. i had a serious allergy attack while in there, so i was anxious to get out but that does say something about the cleanliness of the clothes and/or the store itself. i did appreciate how everything is grouped according to color and then size. looked like they had a lot of cool jewelry, but with all the crap they have strewn over the top of the counter, it's impossible to take a good look without bothering the help and the help made it perfectly clear they weren't in the mood to help. after all is said and done, i walked out with one maternity dress for $5, two liz clairborn "dressy" sweaters for $9 each and, my big purchase, one super cool 100% cashmere, black, bat-wing, cowl-neck sweater for $58. I love this store, but they do an annual Super Bowl Sunday Sale where they slash prices, but their systems are so bad, I waited 3 hours to pay for clothes. They only had one register open. They could have used card scanners on smart phones and saved tons of time. And they kept telling customers to be patient, that we should know it would be busy. Please don't disregard technology, just because you are busier than usual. Great clothes, a poor attitude, and poor communication. There was a wait for a dressing room and to check out and if that was explained when walking in the door, it would have made a big difference. read more

When searching online for "My sister's closet" BEWARE, this store has no affiliation with "My sister's closet" in Arizona and California. The store is antiquated with stuff crammed everywhere. I made a trip from the city for this store and about died when the taxi pulled up front. It really felt like I was in someone's stinky closet. I would not recommend for the shoppers looking for beautiful designer items. I really do not understand why there are all these positive reviews. I shop resale ALL THE TIME. This really was awful. There also are fitting rooms. They have grown over the years so there is a large selection of merchandise.They have a minimal selection of Men's clothing. However a fantastic selection of women's clothing for any occasion or life stage ( maternity). The children's clothing selection is also great and quality. My recent visit was for a dress for a casual wedding. The owner assisted me in locating an appropriate dress. ( After asking if I'd welcome her help). Who does this?
