My son started taking guitar lessons in 2009. He was doing just fine...then, in 2011 he started taking lessons from Jacob. What a difference! His playing improved dramatically, he learned different techniques, took an additional music theory session, and had a lot more fun! My son has had private and group lessons at A Sharp and both were well worth the time and reasonable cost. If you're debating between a group or a private lesson, both are great. I've been taking lessons at A-Sharp Guitar Instruction for a few years now, and I really enjoy it there. Initially, I was not sure about the group lessons, but now I think I prefer the format over anything else. It is very inspirational to hear everyone else in the class improve, and there's always that one student you want to catch up to. They really care about their students at A-Sharp, and are really encouraging. Even if (and especially when) you don't think you're going to get it. They don't give up on students. They put a lot of time and effort into building a curriculum to teach their students not only how to play the guitar, but overall musicianship, which I really appreciate. As someone that enjoys dabbling in all sorts of music, Jake has been a great instructor. He can go from classical to metal and everything in between. I fiddled around with teaching myself for a number of months and wasn't really getting anywhere, so lessons have been great in hitting my goals, setting higher goals, and hitting those as well. read more

My son started taking guitar lessons at A Sharp at the beginning of this school year. He is 9 years old and involved in karate, swimming and church choir. We are amazed at the progress he has made in just 3 months! I have a major in music so I wanted my son to have at least some introduction to music theory, practice good technique, and above all, have fun. We only have to ask him once a day to practice - he loves to play! (Completely different than my experience as a child when I had to practice the piano :) As other reviewers have said, its great if you or your child are serious about learning.
