This was my first time at A-side Public House. When we arrived, the hostess was friendly and pleasant. However, my guest and I were very unimpressed and disappointed with our waiter, Andrew. He did not introduce himself or asked if we had any questions about the menu. After we placed our order, we ended up waiting 30 minutes for the food. There was no update from Andrew about this and the restaurant only had 3-4 other tables (parties of 4 or less) occupied. We were not offered another beverage or anything else to drink after we finished with what we had. When we finally received our food, Andrew did not ask: "how is everything?", or "does everything look ok?", or "do you need any other condiments?", or "enjoy your meal". You know, the typical but polite interaction after the meal is brought to the table. I had the station 10 burger and my guest had the croque monsieur. They were both quite salty and nothing to write home about. After we payed, Andrew rudely and curtly, slapped the card and receipt on the table and kept walking. No "thank you for coming" or "have a good rest of your day". No smile, no eye contact. When leaving the restaurant, Andrew was near the front entrance. He did not say anything on our way out. But, the hostess was again, very pleasant and said, "goodbye, thank you for coming". Overall, it was a 2.5 to 3 star experience. Honestly, Andrew had a lot to do with the low rating. read more

An old firehouse converted into the ultimate intimate and non-presumptuous coffee house (featuring Peace Coffee), a nice assortment of tap beers including two of their own brews (I had the IPA - very nice - nothing to do but compliment them on this one), a great variety of interesting and unique foods on their lunch and dinner menus. Breakfast went by the wayside due to lack of patronage... but I'm sure they did a fantastic job at that, too. Pleasant servers who took time to chat (at our invitation) as it wasn't that busy. Nice bar dining and dining room - with a larger event space upstairs in what was the Firemen's quarters. Recommended stop - anytime - we did it on the way to the airport for an early lunch, No regrets. Only kudos and recommendations. A must try neighborhood spot! The restaurant is in a converted old firehouse which lends to the most adorable touches throughout the space. A very family friendly location! The menu has many options available for kids (the A-Side Wings have the perfect amount of back pallet heat for this born and raised Midwestern including our 9 mo old daughter). The bathrooms have changing tables available (THANK YOU). I'm beyond excited to tip toe my way through the menu but I will say the Burger, yes, just the everyday burger was the best burger I've had in a very long time and by far the best Gluten Free Bun I've had in the metro. A burger and fries are my go to meal at local restaurants and I've been daydreaming about that bad boy since we went last week! A neighborhood gem! A random pick for proximity. Boy were we happy we did. Charm galore, limited but interesting menu. Super friendly staff. I had the chicken my friend had the croquet-monsieur both absolutely fresh and delicious. The rosemary fries were perfect. Now the beer- I like beer but am not a hoppy/IPA lover, I selected the EPA British Pub style brew. Seriously, one sip landed me right in London. Bravo! We tried others, all stellar. Food was good, service not good. Our server took our order and we saw her once again about 30 minutes after receiving our entrees, which came out two minutes after our appetizer. We ordered a bottle of red wine that was warm. The restaurant is open air, so no A/C, so the red wine wasn't the best temperature. It could have been a better experience if we had time to enjoy the appetizer, the wine was stored properly, and our server had come by once or twice. We had lunch at A-Side Public House and it was outstanding!!! The charcuterie board is perfectly executed, delicious! Our sandwiches/burgers were so good, and the coffee was great too! The place is lovely, it's an1885 fire station (the first one in St. Paul) that has been converted into this warm and welcoming space! Loved the red brick walls and gorgeous plants all around. Reservation for two on a Saturday night. First impression is the space is fun, I love the way it opens to the street and how it spills out onto the sidewalk. With it being so open it felt incredibly COVID safe. Checking in took a while - the host seemed new, so everything took a while. We had the deep fried cheese appetizer, which is basically extremely fancy cheese sticks, which I would order again. They were out of "their" beer (brewed elsewhere), which was a bummer. I had the veggie pot pie and wife had the veggie bread. My pot pie was good, but not great. I ate it all though. Wife's food was okay - she said all the flavor came from the spread on the bread. She ate it all too. We ordered chocolate moose for desert which wasn't great, but we ate it all as well. (We were hungry, people!) Service was efficient. Wife thought the server was annoyed by us (and all her tables) I did not get that vibe - she was efficient throughout the meal until the end - long wait for the check. Overall it was a good experience (like a 3.51 rounded up to 4) but not amazing. We'll be back in a bit to try again as it is a cool space and want to support a local place. read more

Went to dinner tonight on a recommendation. It wasn't a miss. I'm not sure how there wasn't a line out the door. There were four of us and our first arrived early. He enjoyed an "amazing" Old Fashioned from the bar as he waited, served from Owen the bartender. When the rest of the party arrived, we were seated promptly and received several recommendations from the kitchen. Ultimately we ordered multiple plates to share. We started with the Croque-Monsieur, Baked Camembert with chilli-fig jam (which was insanely good). Then our main course (shared again) consisted of Short Rib and Cassoulet (jaw dropping), and the Coq Au Vin (the table favorite). Finally the Gnocchi (perfectly cooked, but the execution of the previous three entrees blew it out of the water) Capped off with only Espresso for dessert, our party couldn't have been more satisfied. The staff was friendly, offered excellent suggestions, and attentive. 11 out of 10. Incredible dining experience. Would/Will dine again. !! A cannot miss!! read more

A-Side is a very hip establishment with pretty bad manners. The restaurant is located in a renovated firehouse with lots of exposed brick and big windows that let natural light stream in. The menu is small and pretty limited for gluten free diets, but my mom had made a reservation so I thought, "Hey, I'll give A-Side a try." We arrived for our Sunday morning reservation and weren't greeted by anyone. After standing around for a few minutes, a barista asked if we wanted coffee and we told them we had a reservation. We waited some more. Then we waited some more. Mind you, the restaurant was not busy. The line of guests also waiting for a table started to build up behind us. Finally, a server acknowledged us. We told the server we had a reservation for 10am. "No you don't," the server argued. My mom responded, "Well, I called about 4 days ago and placed the reservation with your staff." The server continued to grumble about not having the reservation and then sat us at a table. Again, we waited and waited. We then noticed that the three other tables who were seated after us were being waited on. What the heck?! We ended up leaving with no acknowledgement by the staff. Rude. read more

Horrible experience here- came with a party of 11 (said we were willing to split into a table of 6 and 5) and were told they could not seat us. More than half of their restaurant was open and nevertheless they said they could not seat us because we were a party of 11. Manager told us we couldn't sit at tables of 5 and 6 because "nobody will stay seated". Unsure why were treated so poorly during a time when the restaurant was not crowded.
