We loved the creativity, enthusiasm and taste of the food. Last night we had the fries (still best in the world), a Caesar salad (lackluster), the seafood stew and the squash. Both the seafood stew and the squash were in the same thick red sauce. Honestly, I couldn't find anything but a few shrimp in the seafood stew, but I did like the squash. I visited this place for the first time and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was decent. We were seated by the windows, where the heated seats kept us cozy--though I have to admit, I got a bit too warm! I tried a spicy margarita that was quite flavorful, and for dinner, I ordered a pork chop. It was tasty overall, but a tad too sweet for my taste--perhaps with some pear glaze. Visited 2/26/25. Restaurant week at Tilia was complete with a taste of fine dining and fun options. Made a reservation in advance and did street parking (give yourself time for this since usually this works best in the neighborhood nearby). Restaurant week special first gave choice between salmon tartare and sourdough crostini type of food. From there-two salad choices: endive or beet, and finally a choice between chicken breast or linguine. By far the best thing of the night was with the endive salad. I'm not even a big salad person but this was so creamy, flavorful, and fresh that it made me keep going back for more. The salmon tartare had decent flavor but wouldn't leave me ordering it again. Chicken was well cooked with some good flavor. Overall I most want to come back for Tilia's popular happy hour but restaurant week here was solid too! read more

This has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Linden Hills. It's a small casual restaurant, but has a great city vibe! We stopped in on a Wednesday night and it wasn't that busy, which was nice as we were hungry and didn't want to wait for a table. We got seated immediately, and our server came over to take our drink order. Apparently they have taken the Mac Day off their menu, but she made me another version of this fabulous drink and it was delicious!! Tonight I tried the grilled zucchini and their shrimp appetizer while my husband had the pork chop. Everything was delicious. We even saved a small bit of room for the chocolate dessert which was reminiscent of a s'mores bar and it was so good! read more

Tilia raises the high bar! They brought their A-game delivering great food and drinks with exceptional service, all set in a classy yet laid back environment. The dinner and drink menu offers a mix of different cuisine so you'll be hard-pressed to leave hungry (or thirsty!) I came here for dinner while in town on a business trip and was blown away by the experience. I highly recommend starting with the bread basket, served warm and complemented by a homemade herb butter (amazing!) I also enjoyed a beet salad and the black cod entree. My friend and I went there for a Saturday brunch and my experience was overall pleasant. Everything was smooth ranging from seating to our server approaching us at a reasonable time to our food served at a good time. The only reason I would give a 4 would be due to food taste. It was good but not spectacular, and some items were better than others, which I will elaborate on very soon. I recommend the Benedict, first of all. The salad was a standard salad with leaves, but the muffins were very tasty! The ham was soft and succulent. The eggs were well-poached so as soon as I broke it, the yoke was starting to cover the muffin. The hollandaise sauce was a bit sweet but it accompanied the savory very well! I also loved the beet salad, as it contained a mixture of yellow beets and red beets, along with pecans, goat cheese, and even orange slices. It wasn't a common combination but it definitely worked! The brown butter vinaigrette accompanied everything very well, too. I will definitely get the beet salad again when I return here at some point. The turkish eggs were good as well because they had the right ingredients: dill, garlic yogurt, and roasted tomato. These ingredients represented some of the most common elements seen in Turkish dishes. I just wasn't sure if it would classify the item as "Turkish eggs" but this one could just be me being ignorant! Regardless, the taste was good and I enjoyed it! However, the Cacio y Pepe was mediocre at best. The parmesan mixture was too soupy and didn't really stick to the pasta, which meant the temperature wasn't hot enough when mixing cheese and water. It also didn't feel like the parmesan was Parmigiano Reggiano as there was some powdered texture, but I could be wrong on that one; adding some Pecorino Romano may help more. I also didn't think rigatoni was the right type of pasta because experiencing a dish like cacio e pepe should be rolling a fork around a stringy type of pasta like linguine or fettuccine. Overall good experience and I would definitely recommend this establishment to those visiting the area! Enjoying some Sebastian Joe's ice cream afterwards and visiting Wild Rumpus, the bookstore, right after brunch would definitely complete the experience even more. read more

I visited Tilia for dinner on a weekend. We didn't have a reservation, but our party of 2 was able to be seated immediately at the bar. We had a great experience being served by Matt at the bar! The bartender was attentive but still retained the intimacy of our conversation and dining experience. Now onto the food... we ordered the Cacio E Pepe and the Seared Shrimp. Both were delicious! The portions were filling but small enough that leftovers weren't needed. The cocktail menu was intriguing! We went with the cocktail of the day, which featured hibiscus gin. The glass was served to the brim, despite the photo I included lol. It was strong, and the ingredients complemented each other well. This is such a lovely neighborhood spot. I was traveling in Minneapolis, and a local recommended that I dine here. The ambiance is nice, it wasn't too crowded at dinner time, and I recommend sitting in the side patio if you can. The Rigatoni Bolognese had a rich flavor to it, and the basil was not overly cooked, so it still had a noticeable taste. What a spectacular experience! Tilia is a lovely spot in the quiet Linden Hills neighborhood. It has the feel of a neighborhood bar that has been around forever (and been well loved the entire time). Focal points include the bar itself and the open kitchen. Warm wood, lighting with vintage vibes, and what I am pretty sure is the original ceiling, this place feels like history in a very good way. Another high point was the service. Johann was personable, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun. The best part, of course, was the food. I ordered the daily shrub, which was lime and yuzu, and it was absolutely a dream. Acid-forward, this shrub was bright and slightly perfume-y, a sit-up-and-take-notice epigraph. We also had the bread plate. This is bread and butter for a foodie. A big stack of tangy and smoky grilled sourdough is served with a glorious quenelle of herby butter that was full of fresh chives and topped with a generous scatter of flakes salt. Each mouthful of buttered bread was warm, tangy, and savory. The prix fixe is an excellent opportunity to try multiple offerings, and I can't recommend it enough. There are satisfying and delicious options for food lovers of all persuasions. I started with the endive salad. It comes with a beautifully emulsified tarragon honey vinaigrette coating each leaf and is scattered with pomegranate arils and perfectly toasted hazelnuts. It was also topped with spiralized radishes. For my main, I ordered the roasted cauliflower, which was absolutely spectacular. Flavored with dukkah and peppadew and served atop a tahini sauce, this dish had a slightly Middle Eastern feel. I loved that they kept the stalks intact, which afforded a variety of textures in each bite. Those beautiful jewel-tone petals you see in the photo are layers of spiced pickled onions, and they are every bit as amazing as they look. For my dessert, I had the peanut butter bombe, and I confess that I wasn't quite sure what to expect. What I got was easily the tastiest peanut butter creation I have ever encountered. There was a gooey dulce de leche center, a smooth and creamy peanut butter mousse, a decadent and smooth coating of dark chocolate, and generous chunks of Virginia peanut brittle. It was rich, satisfying, smooth, and inviting. It is rich enough that you could probably share (but I didn't, and I'm not sorry). This entire meal was an absolute masterclass in the use of ingredients, with influences from many cuisines coming together to make an imaginative and utterly delightful symphony of textures and flavors. I went for a brunch here with my super stupid ex-boyfriend and the food was so good I am not mad momentarily that I dated him as reminisce on how delicious each bite was. It's the people that make the place, the people serving the food in this place were awesome. My omelette was awesome, the plate that he had was super tasty (chefs choice - very flavorful), the coffee was great, and we even got a donut for some reason I don't remember ... but I could've easily taken home 12 of them and shove my face like Homer Simpson. I ordered the Croque Madame for brunch. It looked nothing like a Croque Madame. Pieces of ham appeared to be mixed with cheese (no taste) on grilled bread. There were small slices of onion, which I've never had. And I could not tell there was any bechamel. Every time someone came in you got a blast of cold air on tour back, it was the only negative to the experience. They need to switch to an air curtain instead of the cloth curtain. Now on to all the positives, as I said we sat at the bar which made getting drinks easy...I had a beer while my wife and her friend had a grapefruit mimosa(super tasty). We started off with winter fruit and lemon poppyseed bread(better than my mother's...don't tell). We followed that with cauliflower custard and bruleed yogurt & blood orange cream filled profiteroles. We chased that with our entrees Tonarelli pasta carbonara for me and the El Greco and bouillabaise with shaved truffles for the ladies and we shared the potato pavé. The food was honestly an experience you just wanted to never end. We went in and ordered 3 plates. By how good they were we ended up with 7 orders between the 2 of us. They change their menue every so often based on what is in season and you can tell the effort put in the menu creation. The food doesn't taste as you expect but also as it should have always been... like melon soup...I know how that sounds trust me but it was the most refreshing soup I have ever had. I was very pleased with the customer service and their accommodations! They were able to seat us on the patio but expressed their concern about the potential rain, but let us take that risk. The food was DELICIOUS! Several of us got the steak Benedict and the flavor was out of this world. The steak, onions, peppers and Hollandaise sauce offered interesting texture and I just could not stop eating! One thing I will knock them on is lack of options for kids. Initially we were provided with a kid's menu and after my child decided on spaghetti we were told they weren't actually using that menu.. I mean how hard is it to make some spaghetti!? Oh what a treat is was to dine at Tilia! I visited Tilia on a Sunday night for their prix fixe menu. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by a warm, inviting dining room with tea candles aglow on each table. The space was warm and cozy in the best way. The prix fixe menu offers three courses, each of which were divine. I started with the butternut squash soup which was rich, creamy and beautifully plated. My second course was the petite tenderloin. The meat was cooked to perfection and the accompanying broccoli and mushroom sauce paired well. My third course was the lemon tart which was topped with a delightful meringue. Tilia's atmosphere and menu make for the perfect spot to host just about anyone. I truly cannot wait to return! 11/10! read more

Fine dining, fresh, with outstanding attention paid to plating. We went for the three-course dinner here, and chose it because they had appropriate options for the kids (a cheeseburger and cheesy noodles... but not only did I not taste it, you're probably not here for that review.) The adults at the table went with seared shrimp and flatbread for the first course, pan-fried striped bass and a campanelle special for the second, with chocolate budding and a citrusy almond cake to round it out. We also threw in a couple of non-alcoholic drinks because, it's fancy, why not. I got a cucumber-juniper-white balsamic vinegar nonalcoholic concoction. It was well-balanced and a great palate cleanser between courses. The seared shrimp look fantastic, and I was the biggest fan of the lime & avocado sauce, whose flavor practically leaped off the plate. The fermented black beans were... interesting. Good effort, not sure I would go out of my way to get it again. But the shrimp was well-cooked, and it went with the chili garlic sauce perfectly. And I loved the watercress with vinaigrette "salad" on top. For the second course, since I still hadn't had enough seafood, I got the pan-fried black bass. It came with watermelon radish, baby bok choy, and a coconut rice croquette. Hidden behind all this was an absolutely lovely tropical chutney. The whole thing reminded me vaguely of Hawaii, so, yeah, they got this right. The third course was a chocolate-caramel budino, which is pretty much Italian for custard. It was rich, a little bit salty, and thick; the hazelnuts and sweetened walnuts on top helped to balance out the custard. Excellent all around. Everything looked and tasted great. Every dish is innovative -- it's clear that the chef is pushing boundaries with his menu. For example, we had a roasted fennel root which laid atop a jicama mash, and topped with crushed plantain chips. It was a textural masterpiece. The service was also excellent. Our server was able to help us navigate our food restrictions... plus all of the staff is vaccinated. If you plan to attend for dinner, you should anticipate ~$60/person. If you'd like to try Tilia, but hoping to spend less -- they serve a wonderful brunch. read more

Cons: the service was not up to Tilia's traditionally high level. Our apps sat at the counter for quite a long while before being served to us -- we could've grabbed them ourselves and been much happier. Our entree's were not timed properly -- a couple were finished 10 mins before the others, so they sat 'under the lights'. The atmosphere here is a perfect mix of elegance, cozy, and vibrant. It's smaller than expected, but I thought it was well suited. It is plated like fine dining (see my Shrimp picture), but it's not a quiet place that normally accompanies such an exquisite serving. The Shrimp appetizer is a must. It's a VERY small portion but you wouldn't believe the magic shrimp, pea purée and fermented bean makes in your mouth! Don't be scared, the fermented bean tastes more like a caper, FYI. We ordered pasta and pork for our entree, sharing equally as we normally do, and we bounced back and forth between our favorite. It was impossible to decide. The shank was falling off the bone tender, and the light fresh pasta was undeniable. Pasta sauces can sometimes be over powered and hard to eat the entire plate... but the Ricotta Cavatelli was instantly craved the second we left the building. This place is a gem. Super cute and quaint. A friend recommended we check out Tilia for brunch and I am so glad we did. We didn't have reservations and arrived around 12:45 on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't an issue as we only had a 10 min wait. We sat at the bar and admired the homey, cozy decor and country old fashioned eatery feel. We ordered the hash browns and French fries to share. The French fries came with ketchup and a tomato aioli sauce which was tasty. Both portions very generous and piping hot. For our mains I had the daily Omelette with lamb belly and my friend had the pouched eggs with parmesean cream. This was my first time trying the Lamb belly aka lamb breast and I liked it but it was a little too rich and fatty for me to eat in my sitting. I took the rest home and savored in due course. I just loved how reasonable the prices were. Its a nice treat when you can get good quality at a reasonable price. Plus our server, Megan was very personable and attentive. Our appetizer was the seared shrimp, which was small bit DIVINE. Super great flavors. For an entree I got the gnocchi, which was a bit of a disappointment in flavor and texture, and my partner got the tenderloin which he enjoyed. For dessert, we got the panna cotta which was tasty. For drinks we got the old fashioned, which was pretty standard, and the lady of the lake which is a gin drink with sage YUM. Service was great and they even gave us some French fries since it took a long time for our entrees to come out. First time customer. Went for Restaurant Week. Pros: cute space, reservations, warm friendly staff, nonalcoholic cocktails, good for a date night. Cons: street parking can be challenging, food was not paced well arriving luke warm and the risotto was starting to skin, quite expensive for what we received our bill was $180 for two people and we didn't have any alcohol, the Spatchcocked Chicken (which I sometimes make at home) was unfortunate and reminded me of a frozen meal you get at the grocery. We did enjoy the grilled bread with butter as an appetizer, my friend had a very good pasta dish, and the rhubarb tart was nice however the crust was strong to break to eat which was a bit awkward during a date honestly. I think if you're going for drinks this place would be fantastic. I'd be interested in trying the brunch but most likely will not return for dinner. read more

Several group came in after we were seated and ordered yet got their food, ate and left before we got our food. We ordered 3 standard menu items as is. Seems we got the short end of the service stick. Not sure I will go back even though the food was amazing. Also $7 for a plain cup of coffee is too steep. I went to Tilia for brunch right before covid hit, and then in early Oct for outdoor dining. The quality of the food and the quality of the service has not changed one bit. I love their heated patio - I'm not sure if they had it before, but it's actually quite romantic and made me feel like I was in Europe for a meal (if only). I love their tasting menu they are doing right now, and the cocktails we had were fantastic. If you need something to look forward too in 2020, a great way to cheer yoruself up is to book a meal in their alley way! read more

We walked in just to grab some drinks. First of all it wreaked of bad seafood... but we decided to rough it out. After waiting for ~10 minutes to be acknowledged at our table, we ordered an old fashioned and an espresso martini. We waited 25 minutes to receive two drinks.. constantly looking around for our server and no one could be found. After finally getting them, it also took a while to close out. A week later I looked at my statement and to my surprise had a charge for over $100 bucks when it should've been $40. I contacted the restaurant immediately and they said it looked like my server changed the tip from 8 dollars to 80 dollars. It took weeks to get refunded. The owner over email said he would give me a gift card for the trouble, therefore I provided my address, and he did not send anything. Overall a terrible experience, will not be going back. read more

Tilia has been so good for so long. There are the constants on the menu like the reuben and the fish taco torta. Great to see these are always available. But I like that they are constantly changing the soups they offer and the small plates and entrees. Their butterscotch pot de creme is so good! Every August, I think it is normally the third Sunday, they host Augtoberfest. The street is closed off and there is beer, food, bands, etc. This year it was an $8 entrance fee. Fulton was there, Martina had a food stall. Great afternoon of music, beer and food. I recommend that you go to Tilia for lunch to really enjoy it. They don't take reservations but it is generally less crowded than dinner. You can wait at the bar or outside. The noise level the few times I have been there for dinner was over the top. read more
