Had a great meal and a great experience at A-Side Public House on a Saturday evening. The service was friendly and attentive! The ambiance was neat. It has an industrial yet warm vibe. I was concerned because we were sitting right next to the glass "garage doors" but it was plenty warm and not at all drafty. They had two "igloos" out front for dining with a small group. The burger was tremendous--so good. The fries were hand cut and flavorful, though slightly cold. The service was super quick and attentive. The bulgogi bowl had so much flavor. We got to sit outside on the patio which was great! My husband liked his burger and he said the fries were crispy! I would give them 4 stars the food was good, but it was not amazing. This would be a good place to sit out on the patio and have drinks. We were there for the food. I would not actively seek this out again, but if friends wanted to go here I would not be upset. read more

A-Side was recommend to us for our party of 8 by someone in the group who had been before. With high praise and honestly everyone in the TC going I was excited to check it out. It has taking over the old fire station which leaves a pretty cool space behind. They've definitely decorated in a simple hip style that makes you really comfortable. We went on a Saturday night around 630 with a reservation with is key. While waiting for our table they turned people away unless they were willing to wait an hour or more. With how long the wait way my anticipation was growing. Personally I don't feel like our server did a great job. It took a really long time to be able to place our order. We started with the Fritas and they were good, perfect for sharing. The wings were also a table favorite and you got a decent amount. Unfortunately my food and my husband's meals were wrong. The kitchen/waitress realized mine before it came out. I waited about ten minutes before my burger finally came out. My husband ended up removing the toppings we asked them to leave off. The waitress did appear apologetic about both items and mentioned wanting to give us a discount, which seemed fine. When it came time for the check they had forgotten, huge deal? No. Biggest issue with the checks is they weren't split right. At this point I feel like we had already been there for two hours... it was started to feel like it was dragging on. Once we paid the waiter came back over and apologized for forgetting and gave us a $5 or $10 (unclear) gift card to come back. On one hand that was super nice, on the other hand I'm not totally convinced I'll come back. My food wasn't great, for another and fries it was lacking flavor and the fries were super crunchy. Unfortunately for me but fortunately for the others I was with they seemed to enjoy their food. I'm torn on recommending this place at the moment. Maybe when some of the hype dies down. read more

They used to have a really good white bread, but this was burnt sourdough, which we didn't finish. I wa mildly surprised that they didn't comp one of the bread orders, since we didn't eat it and she agreed that the bread wasn't as good as it had been. That's the reason for only 4 stars. read more

The design on this place is amazing, this old firehouse was transformed into A-Side in the heart of St Paul. Both the food and the service are pretty average. I had high hopes about this place so I made reservations for brunch. After we ordered our food & drinks, we didn't have to wait long before our drinks were brought to us. My coffee was lukewarm, not sure if the cup had been poured and left to sit out a bit or if the coffee I received was sitting in their carafe all morning. In any case, it wasn't very good. Then our food arrived, everything looked good but the side order of breakfast sausage was cold. That definitely must have been sitting in the window for a while. I let the server know about it and she brought us a different order of sausage that was somewhat warm. As for the taste? Bland, bland, bland! Like no seasoning whatsoever...just basically a patty of ground pork. Pretty disappointing. Also, our server never asked us how anything was. This place has been on my list for awhile and finally got the chance to try it before a concert at the Xcel. Less than 10 minutes away from each other and free street parking as well as a lot in back! The vibe is unique being in an old fire station. High ceilings and brick walls make for a great aesthetic! Highly recommend the Epitaph cocktail if you're a tequila fan and looking for a fun night. Tequila, Orange liqueur, Rosa vermouth, lemon, & elderflower. Say no more. I went with the classic A-Side burger. This was top notch and was set apart from other burgers due to the CHERRY AIOLI they put on it. It's such a cute place, an old fire station in the middle of a quaint St. Paul neighborhood. The doors in front fly open when it's nice out and set loads of tables out in their adorable rustic patio scene. Great smells of coffee and rich food as you enter. It's busy at 6pm on a Saturday, make sure you make reservations. The drink menu is killer. My usual is the Voila, but I tried the Epitaph this time, as the bartender recommended and it was incredible! Started with a cheese plate and it was fairly tasty with some sort of herb cheddar, a Muenster and a blue. Nothing crazy, but fine. We both ordered the cheeseburger and I was a little disappointed. Mine needed salt or some sauce, more cheese, something. The patties were great quality, and cooked perfectly, but just a little more seasoning. I'm not a fan of sweet pickles so I took them off. My friend loved her burger and raved about it all night, so it could be just be me. Good side salad and fries. The carrot cake: we saw someone walk out the kitchen with that huge piece and had to give it a go. It was good, but a little dry and one note. Not a lot of carrots, and it they were there, shredded to much to see. The frosting was amazing. Overall a good experience. Interesting drinks menu although on a Sunday evening many of the favorite tap beers were out. The menu was enticing (but again, maybe because it was Sunday?), some of the dishes were not as fresh as we expected. Both the watermelon salad and the shrimp with pineapple appetizer seemed to have been sitting in the fridge too long, made at least a day earlier? Went to A-Side for the first time yesterday and LOVED it! It is in a converted firehouse and in nice weather they open the garage doors so you get to enjoy the breeze while being out of the sun. They also have a patio as well. Overall this place has a terrific ambiance. The menu isn't big but has a great range of choices including some tasty appetizers. We started with a couple of very well-crafted cocktails and the charcuterie board which was one of the best I've had in a while. Beautiful cheeses, quality fruits, nuts, and jams. It also included some French Saucisson, smoked salmon and a wonderful pate. We also ordered their side of French bread which was good as well and came with a whipped rosemary-sea salt butter. We then decided to share the French Onion Steak Sandwich with fries. The beef was incredible! Very flavorful and tender, plenty of cheese and fresh greens too on a soft roll. Definitely a knife and fork sandwich however. Between the atmosphere, great service and well-prepared quality food this was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it! read more

Went here for the first time today with my sisters. We were seated right away and it was fairly busy. After about 10 minutes of waiting, I got up from my seat to ask someone where our server was. She said she'd go look. Shortly after she came to take our drink order while we wait for our server - her words. I'm unsure who was supposed to actually be our server, but that same woman just served us the remainder of our time. So, who knows. Our water didn't get replenished until I asked for it... and it took a while for them to take our credit cards as well to pay the bill. Food & drink-wise: My breakfast sandwich was fine and my sisters really liked their meals and cocktails. I do actually want to go back and try other menu items; however, it may be a while before I go back. We'll see. Not a big deal but also not the best section and it foreshadowed the rest of my experience. As other reviewers have said, the service was awful. I ordered a coffee and then waited another 15-20 minutes to order food. It took so long that I thought maybe I needed to order at the bar. I went up to the bartender, who was annoyed and sent me back to my table. I finally ordered but the server didn't come back once to check on me. I would have liked to have ordered a coffee refill (which I had ostensibly paid for) but no such luck. As others have said, I had the distinct impression that I was inconveniencing everyone by being there. The food was pricey but good quality - not good enough to make up for feeling like an idiot for eating there, however. Came here with my mom for a coffee out on the patio and found it very easy to get a spot at the restaurant without reservations for two people, which I can really appreciate considering how popular brunch is anywhere in the twin cities! This time around I tried the A-Side Toast (grilled brioche, bacon jam, soft scrambled eggs, sauce mornay, salmon roe) and it had a great flavor profile! The toast was huge and a very good portion. I ended up taking off the salmon roe just because it was a little too salty/fishy but everything else about this toast was fantastic. Eggs were cooked perfectly and that sauce mornay is a great accoutrement to this dish. I also ordered the earl grey lavender latte which was yummy, earl grey and lavender is a fantastic combination. Sadly they do not carry their gluten free donuts anymore, which is a bummer because I heard from my mom that they were quite good, but I guess they weren't selling enough of them so they took them off the menu. Good news for dietary restricted folks, they do still have GF bread. Had an amazing dinning experience here and have to say I was blown away. It's such a unique fire house building that offers coffee and beers best of both worlds. I love love burgers and the A House burger has become my favorite. It is very Interesting with the cherry sauce, and Gorgonzola cheese which tastes very delicious. Usually I would order it with a side of fries but after looking at the house salad on the menu and noticed it was an option I had to try it. That salad was delicious and loved the shaved Parmesan on top. I decided to order a mock tail and went with a strawberry drink that was just perfect for me in terms of flavor. My partner had the house IPA and it was good as well. I was very pleasantly surprised at their beer menu and saw a good amount of options for sour beers since those are my favorite. I loved the ambiance at the bar and the aesthetic of this place is truly beautiful. I'm very happy with the service here and food. I also loved that they have their own parking lot given that its location is in a neighborhood. I will definitely be coming here again and can't wait to bring friends over. We sat in a neat little quarter table that sits against the glass garage doors and looks out to the street. Initially, I thought it would be an annoying seat, but it was actually quite nice. Some interesting, hearty appetizers from which to choose as well as entrees and sandwiches. The food was great. We had the wild mushroom flatbread for an app. Delicious. A real gem!!! Amazing transformation of the old Saint Paul fire station. Don't drive by this one! The location is cozy and the decorating can't be matched mostly because not a lot of other diners operate in an old fire station. A-Side interior has one section dedicated for the coffee bar and one side dedicated for eating. The croque-monsieur sandwich is delightful and paired with a salad. Tonight I had their soup du jour which was a butternut squash - so lovely on a cold night. While this is only my second visit, I still will vouch that their warm lavender latte is just the best. Wow! What a gem of a place! Definitely has something on the menu for everyone. I had the Monday night burger deal which is a steal, though I wish I was able to do the A-Side Burger with the deal! The fries were crispy and deliciously seasoned and burger was phenomenal! I had a group of 6 people and the server did a great job managing all of our orders! Their cocktails are good and fun. The mussels were just as the name describes it, fresh. The wings were good. For how dark and saucy they looked, they were not salty.
