Working with In the Mix for my wedding day was a wonderful experience. They came highly recommended by our venue, so we thought we'd check them out. From my first meeting with the owner, David, I was impressed. David was professional, kind, engaging, and took the time to explain how his team works and answered any questions I had. We decided to book In The Mix to manage our ceremony and reception music, photo booth, and wedding Gobo. When we got closer to the wedding, we had a meeting with their coordinator, Phil, who we worked with to create the run of show for our ceremony and reception and finalize our music selections. Phil was phenomenal and was our point of contact leading up to the wedding. He was responsive, accommodating, and even managed to fit in some last-minute changes to our wedding song and "must play" list. On the day of our wedding, everything was flawless. Our DJ, Elton, was wonderful, and our MC, Rob, was fun, engaging, and really knew how to keep our guests excited and dancing. After having a DJ scheduled for well over a year for my daughter's wedding on October 30, 2021, we were notified about 2 months prior to the event that he was not going to be available for our event for a personal reason, but he passed us along to Harry McCloskey and his In-The-Mix Entertainment Group. A bit miffed and concerned we had our initial meeting with Harry. He put us immediately at ease and worked with my rattled daughter to calm her concerns and quickly make us realize that everything happens for a reason. Harry assigned Billy (as the emcee) and Joel (as DJ) to our event. After a few more calls with Billy and the team, all details were worked out and we were ready for the big day. Fast forward to the reception, to say that Billy and Joel were professional, is an understatement. They were friendly and personable, very adept at reading the room and kept our guests engaged for the entire 4.5 hour reception. Once the dance floor was open, I can honestly say that at no point was there a lull in the excitement. The dance floor was PACKED all night long. To a person, my guests all LOVED the entertainment, with many asking for business cards for (hopefully) future use. We have heard from many of our guests after the event and all had glowing reviews. Most saying it was the best wedding they had ever attended, with a large part of that being the entertainment. As we all know, a good DJ / emcee can make or break an event. In this case Billy and Joel made me look like a genius for choosing them to DJ our event. In fact, we had all gratuity envelopes prepared prior to the event, so I handed them out at the conclusion of the event. I've used In the Mix for several corporate events--Dave, Gina, and staff have always not only met but exceeded my expectations. Working in an industry that requires me to organize and coordinate several customer facing events per year, I have contracted their services several times--each time, I am amazed at their attention to detail, sincere passion for what they do, knowledge of music and their audience, but above all else their level of professionalism. Sometimes, when working with different venues, they have strict rules about bringing in outside contractors i.e. DJs etc. this can often create extra frustration that simply isn't needed during your event... What impresses me most, is that every time I've used In the Mix, their DJs seamlessly integrate into the venue. Their fine reputation precedes them. My fiancé and I had the highest hopes when we booked these guys. They put their best foot forward with David and Gina selling the packages. David is everything you want in an MC. He is charismatic, funny, and personable. Unfortunately we did not get him the night of the party. What we got was exactly the opposite of that. Let me start by saying we took a lot of time to make a play list of songs for them to play and they pretty much ignored it and played what they wanted which was generic, cheesy, carbon copy wedding music. My biggest fear came true when House of Pain "jump around" medley in tribe called quest "scenario" came on. I went to the Dj booth several times to beg them to play the songs on the list but they just kept blowing me off and saying, "later" and "after the cake". The MC, Corey was almost nonexistent during the party. The crowd came to party and these guys could really clear a dance floor. He told the bride, "I'm having a really hard time..." on her wedding night. If you hear that he is going to be your MC kiss your dream wedding goodbye. I really don't know why this happened bc we had planned the music ahead of time but they really just didn't cater to us or try to accommodate our requests when we were clearly dissatisfied. On a positive note, the sound was good and the lighting as well. I'm sure they do great parties and based on other reviews have very satisfied customers. That was simply not our experience. Sorry to leave such a negative review but we had such high hopes based on our consultation with David. We had a very positive experience with In the Mix. They were one of our first vendor hires, and Jack and Gina helped us tremendously to understand how important a professional DJ service is not only in doing the music but in setting the pacing and mood of the entire night (ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception - including all the reception rituals like important dances, cake cutting, bouquet and garter toss, etc). Anyone who has been to a wedding in Long Island knows that guests are up and down, up and down all night long for dancing mixed with eating and other activities, and it can get a bit confusing where you're supposed to be when without good direction. We got many compliments from guests that Jack was a great MC and that Chris did a great job as DJ. Even throughout the night of the wedding, guests were coming up to me to say that they loved our music. We believe that having them both as a team was crucial to the success of our reception in particular - people were dancing all night and everyone knew to be watching for our big moments. I'm a stickler for organization and felt that my reception was extremely orderly and well orchestrated. I have attended some weddings where the reception felt scattered or disorganized, and I now understand that a professional, experienced DJ service that knows venue staff and works with them effectively can make an event flow perfectly. In the Mix was responsive to all of our requests - including placement of the DJ equipment so that the fireplace in our room wouldn't be blocked, do not play and must play songs (we had specifications for some very specific music we wanted played at very specific times which were honored for us with no problem), and lighting (which was beautiful and varied throughout the night depending what was going on, setting the mood perfectly). As to pricing, everything is done a la carte, and we were offered a big menu at our consultation which included every possible service In the Mix could provide us and the individual price for each. We found this very easy to understand. I also really liked that Jack approached me several times throughout the night to confirm what was about to happen and verify what we wanted or make sure what was being done was what we had requested - for example, whether I wanted to dance to a full or half song with my father, whether the dinner music was correct, whether we would both remove and toss the garter. My DH and I were both pretty mellow throughout our reception, so I know that this is just Jack's style, and we really appreciated it. We reviewed all of our prospective vendors very diligently before making a final hiring decision, and in my opinion, In the Mix has no competition anywhere in Long Island in terms of the combination of professionalism, service, and price. read more

My husband wrote a review of In the Mix based on what we experienced at our wedding, and In the Mix felt the need to respond with a response that clearly lacks professionalism. I guess you can't leave an honest review on how you felt about the service provided. Let me start by quoting Gina: "8/29/2017 David, it is unfortunate that your account of your event is quite different than what we were told the night of your wedding. We understand you have a great emotional investment in this review, however being factual is important. I think a few of the highlights of the evening were your rude and belligerent behavior toward our staff, as well as the fact that your then finance provided the list of music she would like played, which was in line with the selections you noted in your review. We wish you would've noted your "biggest fear" beforehand so we could've avoided them. When our staff alerted you that they were playing from your list of requests, they were answered with "fine, play her stupid sh*t" (as quoted by the MC in the text he sent that evening). Our staff also stated they have never been treated so rudely before....maybe if the tone had been a little friendlier that evening, this review would be a bit different." I would like to address this first by saying, if the staff of In the Mix was treated so rudely as they say, then maybe they should return the $150 tip we gave them. If I wanted to be "rude and belligerent" I would have tipped them NOTHING. Second, numerous guests mentioned how the MC was terrible, both during and after the wedding including my own father. At no point should the MC come up to the bride mid dance with her friends and say "I am having a hard time" and "Your husband is mad at me". Since when is that professional? Actually, it's extremely juvenile. I don't care what your staff told you, or how they "remember" the accounts of that night, bottom line is he was unprofessional and acted like a fish out of water. Not to mention he was non-existent basically the whole night, barely on the mic. Next, I certainly did NOT give you a list of songs that was in line with the selections my husband was upset about. Actually, when we came in for our consultation and to pay the balance, we specifically mentioned we did not want those songs played, yet they were played. Yes, remember, we were paying customers, we paid for your service, and yet you're out here calling us rude and belligerent. There are a lot of wedding websites out there that you're listed on, I am pretty sure the brides looking up DJ's would not want to know that you respond to your customers by calling them "rude and belligerent". You provide a service, that is the industry you are in, and frankly no one wants to deal with bad service. read more

Couldn't have been happier to have In the Mix at our event. David was amazing, as were Jonathan, and Steven. I am not sure there is a better company out there. They played music that was great for the varying age groups, and as the night was closing out they focused on the music of today. David is awesome, and Gina was in constant communication with us when it was getting close to crunch time. While they gave a great impression when we interviewed them in person, In the Mix was the only mistake I made. It ended up being a HUGE mistake, since the DJ harrassed the groom and my father minutes before the ceremony, threatening to leave and complaining that he couldn't set up his equipment. But let's back up. Pre-Wedding: We book the Multitalented DJ because we specifically did not want an MC who's shouting and egging people on. We select the Bose speaker system (surcharge) for higher quality sound, and tell the DJ we like that sound system BECAUSE we hate being in parties where the music is way too loud. We tell him we want to avoid Top 50 Pop music, and he says he totally agrees and is on board. Closer to the wedding day: The request form online only allows 15 songs, and they had MAJOR attitude telling us that they need the freedom, we don't know how to run a party, and we can't submit more songs. I called the BS - whose wedding is it?! - and I reminded them in writing to avoid heavy-rotation pop. Also, when we wanted to change our first dance song the week before the wedding, the DJ and the owner of the company told us there would be a charge for that, because mixing songs is hard. Why hire a DJ who can't mix songs? That is called an iPod. Then, the owner tried telling us that the music and equipment are hard for one person, and we should hire a second DJ. Well, the guy we hired had been confident about being a "multitalented" one-man show, so we didn't think the hard upsell was appropriate. The DJ assured us he'd been to the venue multiple times and knew how to set up the sound system. We told him we'd like amber lights around the dance floor. We weren't allowed to get the DJ's cell phone number for day-of emergency use, or his email address for song/technical updates. Are you kidding me?! Wedding Day: DJ is saying he can't set up the ceremony sound system, which we paid extra for. Well, HE had said he was totally familiar with the location and sure he could work it out. NOT the time to bug the groom and bride's father, who are practicing their vows/speeches. DJ rejects a check made to "CASH" which is legally the same as cash (the only difference is you MIGHT not get away with tax evasion), and threatens to LEAVE unless people go to an ATM and pony up. He's telling my father he'll leave in front of guests, who pooled together some cash to save the day. Reception: The lights are purple instead of amber. There is no expensive Bose sound system, and the music is WAY too loud. The groom and my parents each went up 5 to 6 times EACH, and my granny too. He ignored literally 15 repeated requests to turn the music down. He plays all sorts of crappy overplayed pop music. He eggs people on instead of being behind-the-scenes. Conclusion: These guys charge an awful lot of money for people that run their own show instead of catering to how you want your wedding. But they'll keep people dancing, as long as you do things however they want and pay in cash (not a check made out to cash). We're filing an IRS report and we WOULD complain to the Better Business Bureau, but surprise... they're not a member. read more

The MC and DJ both did a good job and got the crowd on the dance floor. The only complaint was the photo booth -- the printer ran out of ink a little more than half way through leaving many guests with streaky pix. They should have been able to shoot and print twice as many photos as they actually were prepared for. They also should have done a better job of announcing the booth; very few people from the other side of the room even knew about it. Management was professional and flexible. We hired this DJ for a wedding because they were vendor recommended. Despite that they asked us to fill in a detailed playlist, the DJ failed to play the requested music. Based upon my unhappy experience, they did not properly musically manage the party and, the DJ patter was tacky and awkward. My recommendation is that you move on to another vendor. read more

We booked In The Mix for our wedding because they were on the preferred vendor list for our venue. I am SO GLAD we did. I can't remember the name of our DJ (so sorry, but you were great!) but he made our night. Our MC, David was AMAZING! He kept the crowd hyped and partying all night long. He even gave a line dancing tutorial for a song that not everyone was familiar with that everyone loved. I gave them my list of 15 must play songs, and they took care of the rest of the music based off of my list. Everyone I spoke with was raving about the music! I could not be more happy that we chose "In the Mix" for our wedding entertainment. From start to finish, they have been so easy to work with and they were able to give us the exact vision that we had for our wedding. Gina is a master coordinator. I never felt there was a request too big or complicated that couldn't be executed. I received quick responses whenever I had a question (Which happened quite a bit :) ).   The day of the wedding, David was on time and everything was great. Our guests enjoyed cocktail hour with the perfect playlist to get everyone ready for the reception. Our bridal party entrance was exactly what we had pictured. We did not hire a separate MC, so David coordinated it all on his own, but you never would have known. Once the reception started, we did not stop dancing. We were able to see every single person dancing at our wedding at least once, and that was the most impressive thing to me. He always knew the right song to play to get everyone of different ages up on the dance floor.  I had originally given David a huge list of all of these songs that we wanted played because I am a bit of a control freak and the dancing was so important to us. About 10 minutes before the reception started, I told him to just forget about the list and just play what he thought was best. This was one of the best decisions that I made that day! Micromanaging your DJ is completely unnecessary when you have someone who is talented, passionate, and is able to feel the crowd. So if you are making one of those long song lists, save your time and throw it away right now. If I had a dollar for every time someone told me we had the best wedding DJ they had ever seen, I probably would have been able to pay for this wedding! :)   One of the best investments that we made was upgrading to the BOSE sound system. I was very hesitant at first because like many brides, I was trying to stick to a budget and was afraid to spend more money on something I hadn't originally accounted for. Knowing what I know now, I would have easily paid double the price because it was so worth it. My brother has Autism, and has some sensory difficulties, making him very sensitive to sound. I knew I wanted him to be part of the day as much as possible, and I didn't know if this would be possible since he often has trouble at other weddings due to the loud music. When Gina started explaining the way that the BOSE system works, and how the sound is more crisp and the sound transmission more clear, we figured this would be a great way to ensure that my brother would be able to tolerate the noise better. They were right! This simple upgrade gave me more time with my brother at the reception, and I never could have put a price tag on that. In addition, everyone on the dance floor was partying as usual, but when I stepped off the dance floor and was among the guests in their seats, the music was not loud at all. The high quality of the system doesn't make it necessary to blast the music. No one had ringing in their ears after the wedding. People actually commented that this was the first wedding where they felt they didn't have to scream to speak with someone across the table.  This was exactly what we wanted to avoid, so it made me so happy to hear our guests say that. Especially when they had not even known that we had upgraded to the sound system. It was one of those subtle improvements to a wedding that just enhanced the overall feeling and attitude of all of the guests. The BOSE system was our wedding MVP.   If you still need wedding entertainment, don't wait another second to book In the Mix. I got married 48 hours ago, I haven't even opened my presents yet, but I am writing this review because I am THAT happy with the service we received. I was very disappointed! They dj'd my party this past Saturday and they were horrible. We had to tell them when to play. Then they would take forever to start the music. We had one request and they couldn't even meet our one request. I paid $100 extra for lights, there were no lights. I paid $150 for giveaways, the giveaways were horrible. They sent 2 young boys to dj, they had no idea what they were doing. In the mix dj only wants our money!!!! They suck!!!! I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone. read more

My wife and I used In the Mix for our wedding last August. I had previously been to the weddings of 2 separate friends who used them as well, and I didn't sit down for the entire night. So when it came time for my wife and I to look for a DJ, In the Mix was our first and only stop. Dave's energy didn't stop from the second we met him until the last song was played on our wedding night. He even approached me right before introductions to clarify a minor detail because he wanted it to be perfect, and we were not disappointed. I've received tons of compliments on their performance at the wedding. And here's a tip...Let Dave and his staff do their job! We gave a list of 15 songs for them to play. Most songs kept people dancing, but there were a few songs that we chose where we noticed people leaving the dance floor. I went to Dave and told him to forget the rest of the list and just keep people on the floor, and that's exactly what they did. They know what they're doing. I loved them and have been to many parties where they were the DJ's. There were a couple of small mistakes that I won't get into,but there were also some great things that made up for these mistakes. However, my wedding was on a labor day weekend and he was already booked. I was hesitant to trust anyone else that I haven't seen first hand but luckily Zac (MC) & Steven (DJ) showed up to my wedding. They did an amazing job!!! Zac definitely kept the crowd hyped. His transitions into every event in the reception, from the entrance to the cake cutting were all smooth. Steven played all the songs I requested and other songs similar to my taste. He also added some last minute requests during the reception as well. They constantly had all my guests on the dance floor partying! We had our son's wedding May 2017 - Dave and Steve were our MC/DJ team. We were very pleased!! We had some special requests which they executed beautifully. I had been to a wedding the weekend before and the mother of the bride told me the DJ (another company) hadn't played the songs they requested and didn't do any of the line dancing they wanted so I was a little afraid going into our event. But IN THE MIX did not disappoint. We are not the type to call and call to confirm and go over things -- we booked, emailed them our comments and that was it - yet on the wedding day we got EXACTLY what we wanted!!
