When I got my Cavachon puppy, a friend recommended A Step Up to be our vet. They are about 15 minutes from my house. They are AMAZING on every level. I'm a bit of a high maintenance puppy mom as every hiccup leads me to look on the internet to find the worse case scenario, which leads me to calling them. They always return calls in a timely fashion and have never made me feel like I'm silly or wasting their time. My puppy, Boo, gets excited when I tell him we are going to the vet to see his friends. From the time we pull in the parking lot, Boo can't wait to get inside and see everyone. He especially loves Jon (John? I'm not sure... I'm sorry!). As soon as Boo hears his voice, he runs toward it, tail going a mile a minute. Jon is fantastic! On the floor, accepting sloppy puppy kisses, and telling Boo he's the "bestest boy" while giving Boo a good pet and rubdown. Their prices are fantastic, their knowledge is vast, and the rooms are always clean. We will never go anywhere else. Boo loves A Step Up and so do I! read more

Extremely, terrifyingly disorganized practice. With an extremely unprofessional owner. Avoid this location. They don't allow you to come in for tech appointments (which is the cause of all of their issues). My dog has only been seen for arthritis and has been put on a routine of adequan injections twice weekly for four weeks. On one occasion, this clinic had given my dog the wrong service (gave him routine lab work when he was due for his Adequan injection, a twice weekly series for several weeks in a row). The owner blamed me, saying that When scheduling the appointment, I chose the wrong option. There is no option for the service my dog receives, nor is there an option for "other", only a long list of services he wasn't getting. The last option on the list is "lab work - other", which I selected as it seemed like the closest option possible. Instead of checking with my fiancé upon arrival, who took him for the appointment, or looking at his chart to see that he is "prescribed" a routine of coming twice weekly for a month for the same injection, they gave him the "lab work - other" which apparently to them is routine lab work... no questions about why I was asking for "lab work other", just took the blood and gave the dog back without another word. I noticed when I saw the receipt that should have been $30 but was instead $200. One would think that the tech and or vet would reach out as to why blood work was being taken or what they may be looking for, but no. When I called and eventually brought the dog back, a very hostile owner/vet came to my car to yell at me in a very intense manner. He said my fiancé lied about the events that happened (that no one asked him why he was there) and demanded I call him in front of him. So I did. My fiancé explained to the owner that the tech did not ask why the dog was there. An incredible weird sequence of events. I should have left the practice at this point, which I threatened to but decided to give another Dr. a chance. I saw a great female veterinarian a few months later looking into next steps for my dog's arthritis. She recommended a repeat of the same 4 week/ twice a week injunctions. We actually talked about my last experience and she said they would schedule all of the injections right then and there to avoid any confusion. I did that 2 weeks ago, brought my dog to the first two appointments and got the injection no problem. My fiancé took him for the third injection, no problem. My fiancé tried to take him today and was told that he "wasn't allowed" to bring the dog without my authorization. A new policy? Since the 4 days earlier he was there? Disorganized at best. Unprofessional at least. So, they called me repeatedly for 45 minutes but I was unable to answer my phone as I am on a business trip (the reason said fiancé is there). They had my dog inside but wouldn't give him back or the injection until they reached me. Finally after an hour, and my fiancé getting the dog back in the car after going inside the building, I saw the missed calls and spoke to an understandable furious fiancé. Baffled, I called and tried speaking to them to tell them to be told it's "in my chart" (apparently since today only) that only I can bring my dog for services. More likely, the owner heard somehow that he brought the dog and not myself and decided to be unprofessional and impose a new rule to be petty. What a nightmare! If you value your sanity and your animal's health, I highly recommend going to a more professional practice with empathetic and kind ownership. read more

They are kind, compassionate people. They were not my regular vet, but were so understanding and kind that they probably will be now. The phone staff actually asked what was going on and checked if they could help us last minute, rather than rushing us off the phone. They give you options and don't push for unnecessary procedures. I cannot say enough about the care Frankie received from Dr. Griffith and his staff. He took his time evaluated him, and treated us with respect, explaining everything in detail. Did not push for anything over and above what Frankie needed. I am so glad that the other vets in my area didn't "have time" for him. If I could give zero stars, this place had earned it. Save your money, go elsewhere! I have a 8 month old cat that wouldn't be alive if I wasn't persistent. She had puss pouring from her body for almost two weeks before I was listened to about my worries. This vet can't even tell if a cat is spayed or not! Which resulted in a 2,000$ surgery that could've been prevented if they actually examined the animals properly instead of leading you to believe that they did. read more

I am so glad I tried A Step Up, my 13 year old Golden Retriever is getting around better than he has in quite a while thanks to Dr Kitchen. The staff is great. I was very impressed with the staff especially Leah who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Jordan was great also. Being a Navy Vet myself I really appreciate Dr. Stepusin's military service and the fact he offers veterans like myself a discount is outstanding. I am recommending A Step Up to all my family and friends and anyone who reads this. Even though the clinic was not open to go in to due to covid I was surprised how well organized they were. Once I got parked, it was only moments before an employee came and took my Marley in for a checkup. This was on a Monday. They did say it may take 24 hours to get back to us. Today is Friday. They never called back, they did absolutely nothing!! A Step up Vet have such a caring and kind staff. We had to put down our sweet Chester after 14 years. This was our second dog we had brought to them to help with this difficult task. I'm definitely not a yelper, typically. This clinic is beyond the best around. We've never encountered an issue, the staff is phenomenal and Dr. Randy is fantastic. We've taken our dogs to him for everything from routine visits to injury to spaying and even euthanasia. We're not fussy pet parents by any standards, but when we have fleeting moments of "uh oh" they're the ones we call. They always have an answer, even if it's one you're not ready to hear, and they are always very welcoming. We love A Step Up and recommend them to anyone we speak to. Definitely the best vet I've ever taken my girl to! My dog loves the staff and they're very friendly and explain everything well, even when I ask a lot of questions (lol) My cat likes the vet techs and I appreciate that because I know my Midnight can be a pain when it comes to nail trims but they always get it done! They have good pricing and did a great job on my dog's dental cleaning! The building itself Is also one of the best veterinary clinics I've seen! It is very clean and it doesn't have the usual "vet smell" like most of the ones I previously took my pets to. We had a 20 year old cat that the wonderful doctors took care. After Christmas we had to have him put down. The doctors were very sensitive to our needs. We received a sympathy card and a plaster plaque paw print of our beloved pet. They are also taking care of our current cat. She has an anemia problem that was found right before Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving day Dr. Randolph made a special trip to the office to give medication to my husband for our pet. Our kitty is doing well and we can't say enough good things about these doctors and wonderful care they givepets. Give them a try. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

I am trying to make a long story short, my cat was dying and my vet wanted too much money to put him to sleep so I took them to a step up veterinarian on Clifton Road because they only wanted half of what my vet wanted and I had already spent a small fortune on trying to get him better in the first place. Leave me start out by saying that the people down there are very nice. I am just sorry to say that I don't think they know what they're doing. First of all they were very nice in explaining what was supposed to happen key words( supposed to) they said we're going to take the cat into the other room and put a catheter in so take him out they bring him back they have the catheter in, they say we're going to give him a drug it's going to calm him down and mellow him out the doctor tries to put the needle into the catheter and spends no exaggeration a good 15 to 20 seconds trying to get a needle in a hole I should have known something was wrong right there the nurse even ask him doctor would you like me to do that, he said no quote you have to get that right in the center of that thing don't you after he finally find the hole and gave the cat the drug they left for a couple of minutes he comes back in and my cat is still walking around the doctor gets a oh no look on his face send the nurse in to get the cat when the nurse picks up the cat and takes him out she says something on the order of" we won't poke you again".(Keep that in mind you'll understand in a minute )Now they bring the cat back in he has bandages on both of his arms and by this time he is really groggy they said they gave him the drug in the back. They gave him the other drug and he went to sleep. Now there's a couple things I'd like to explain first of all my cat was extremely overweight, my fiance feels guilty and thinks that she was the one that killed the cat because she over fed him. So as soon as we put the cat to sleep the man starts telling us about how a skinny cat is actually healthier than a fat cat I'm looking at this guy giving him a dirty look hoping he'll shut the **** up, of course he doesn't get the hint ,so we leave and go home and take our cat home to bury him my fiance didn't want me to bury him with the bandages on his legs when I took them off I was appalled there were at least four holes in his legs there was a tear in his skin that was an eighth to a quarter inch long I brought my cat there to be put to sleep humanely and basically he was tortured the last moments of his life I am disgusted, you know it would have killed me but I do own a 12 gauge shotgun and if I would have known he was going to have to go through that I probably would have done it myself but I thought this was be a better choice. Now I question the choice I made for my little buddy. Well hopefully he's in heaven chasing butterflies now , feeling no pain. read more
