My cats a senior and she was so loving and gentle with her. Yes, they have long wait times. It's worth it to me because they know what they're doing in my eyes and make my senior feel safe. They didn't manhandle her. They were gentle, trimmed her nails, cleaned her poor ears, the medicine from what I googled actually was a very good price for its formula, and it took care of the ear issue quick! I think I'd prefer my cat being comfortable and treated gentle and deal with some wait time rather than the other options. They also have an option where you can wait in the car and they can buzz you when you're ready because of animals anxiety. Which I LOVED! I am not fully understanding these negative reviews- I guess in my eyes if a doctor/vet is running over, that means they take their time and really access and explain everything! I also had front office on the phone for 20 minutes explaining everything and they answered my many calls with my silly questions. They're just Pittsburgh, straight to the point (I'm not from here, so to me being blunt is just the Pittsburgh of it all!) they just are honest with what you ask and when they are busy, at least they actually put you on hold and don't decline your call completely! I know to some that sounds ridiculous to say, but I work front desk, and many locations will just make you call over and over! (Not mine, but many will). I seriously doubt that any other Animal Hospital has a quicker wait time! When we lost our chihuahua Koby at 17 years old everyone that worked there truly felt our pain. This past December our chihuahua sweet Bella passed at only 6 years old. Once again the staff and Dr. Keffer were so kind and caring! Dr. Keffer called us to make sure we were doing okay and all the staff sent us a beautiful sympathy car! 10/24/18: We saw our new vet yesterday. Also, I pulled seven ticks off of her after a walk yesterday. We live in a rural area, and we MUST have our Lyme vaccinations ON TIME. Accident or not, if you're 5-10 min late for your appointment, your dog's vaccines may go out because your appointment will likely be canceled by the clinic. I was an established patient/customer, and it took over three weeks to get a routine annual exam appointment for my dog. I couldn't wait another month. My dog's life depends on her vaccines, especially her Lyme vaccine. And I depend on my dog because I'm hearing disabled. When I think about what could have happened, it scares the daylights out of me. This is just my personal experience. If you depend on your dog for anything, you want to have a veterinarian you can depend on. 10/23/18: An update to my review (from three stars down to one star) to say that no one has reached out to us, instead it appears that a brand new Yelp member posted excuses for poor treatment of patients/customers and doc office scheduling basics. This is a juvenile reaction, and is indicative of the attitude of the staff at this clinic, in my opinion. The scheduling issues at the clinic seem to be pervasive as is indicated by numerous reviews complaining of the problem. I have NEVER been seen on time, and when I was told to cancel and reschedule after waiting over three weeks for an appointment, I decided I'd had enough. My recommendation to existing customers is: do not to call to tell them you're going to be late, even if it's only five minutes. :-) read more

First of all, I have known Dr. Henkle as my 10 pets veterinarian for years, 12, to be exact, and he is by far one of the most, if not THE most compassionate veterinarian you could ever hope to find and thank God he works close to my home!!! He has NEVER been uncaring or money grabbing, on the contrary, when other hospitals wanted to run up my bill, HE has aways been HONEST and THOROUGH ordering only necessary testing- for example, he caught the lab work oversight other hospitals missed, namely liver enzymes for one of my cats indicating the real health condition of my cat! And prior to meeting him, I had been to many other vets in other facilities, none compared to Dr. Henkle who exceeded them all in expertise, compassion and costing less. If he was money grabbing, he could have easily glossed over the truth in those labs and charge me for more testing, x-rays, ultrasounds, which the other hospital had ordered, than we needed or would help my cat. Yes, It is a busy hospital, but that is evidence for quality of care, not lack of care- a lousy hospital wouldn't have all that business! Although you can't find a perfect human being, Dr. Henkle is as close to a perfect vet as anyone could be, how.. because he is extremely knowledgeable with honors and many years of varied expertise in correctly diagnosing and treating animals- which he does and he is compassionate and kind to all animals and pet parents, he is caring and honest, while also most ethically considerate of not ripping people off but keeping costs down to essentials! I think 12 years is a pretty consistent track record, and given that fact, I'm sure he was just as wonderful in his entire professional career as a compassionate human being and a superior, yes, a MOST EXCELLENT VETERINARIAN-- and my pets good health and records prove it!!! Good veterinarians...but the organization is more concerned with $$$ than the welfare of the animals. They have taken on WAY TOO MANY clients. As a result they are not able to provide the proper level of care. For example, I have a 10 month old puppy (been a client for over 15 years with other dogs) who was vomiting and deficating blood for 24hours. I was told that the earliest emergency appointment was "sometime next week"....their answer to anything not routine is to send you to camp hill hospital. As a cat and dog owner for 14 years in multiple cities I have settled on this facility. The care is compassionate and appropriate without upselling services to maximize profit like is common at larger chain-vet hospitals (thinking of the one who recommend a $250 course of care for a skin infection present in a dog who was actively dying (hence the body could not naturally fight the infection). She later passed within 2 weeks of the visit). I can thankfully see the same vet without a revolving door of new grads who take the job because of lack of other options. As far as the negative reviews I read about wait time and overbooking, I can share as a healthcare worker for 15 years that wait times are often due to being provided excellent or emergent care. Overbooking is due to upwards of 30% no show rates, a procedure developed out of the behaviors of us customers and certainly not the preference of clinicians in these settings. It is unfortunate that you had to wait in the lobby before being moved to a room, would you prefer someone shorten their goodbye to a companion of 15 years or drag their pets near lifeless body back to the waiting room so that your animal can receive routine shot?. Piece of advice, consider that someone's visit is more heartbreaking than yours before you leave nasty reviews for waiting for routine care. Try being as compassionate and selfless with fellow humans as you are your pets. read more

Had our 7 month old cocker spaniel Bella spayed on Friday 3/11 she came out of surgery in great shape. The staff took excellent care of her and we were giving excellent instructions on her care and any questions we had when we took her home. they followed up on Saturday 3/12 and 3/14 with a phone call to see how she was doing. I've been going to this vet for many years and the service has been inconsistent but the wait times have always been horrendous. My average wait time in my car or inside is about 45 min or longer sometimes. And the vet usually only spend about 5-10 minutes with me. I also have had some bad experiences with my dog. sometimes it seems like they know what to do but other times it just feels like they are guessing. We are established customers with two dogs, moving to Robinson's when our Elizabethton Vet closed. Today our youngest Plott was run over by two tires of my four wheeler about 11:00 am. While he is able to walk, we wanted him checked quickly in case of internal injuries. Robinson's front desk was called so they would know I was on the way with an injured dog. The receptionist said we would have to wait until her first opening at two pm. We once again told her he had been run over and she did not seem to care. We just have to wait. Her two Vets are both busy, one in surgery and the other with previously scheduled appointments. We asked to speak with a Vet. We were given another front desk person who refused to get a Vet for us. Going over the same circumstances with her, she suggested we take the dog to the airport emergency clinic, which does not open until 5:30 pm. When asked if she understood how ridiculous it was not to see an emergency because of scheduled appointments, she said something about not liking how we were talking to her, and eventually just hung up on my wife. Other reviews speak about the bad front desk personnel. This needs to be addressed. The front desk obviously does not understand it is a customer's fees that pay their checks. The office website says they will see emergencies anytime, but that is obviously not true. Robinson's is one of two emergency Vets in our area, the other open only at night. At this point we will be moving our business to another Veterinarian in the area. I hope this dog lives until 5:30... read more

We just moved to the area from Europe with our dog and cat. We brought the dog in for his shots and checkup. The nurse and doctor were both great. They listened while I asked a mountain of questions and answered everything that I asked about. They were both very attentive to us and our dog. I have now had several experiences at this animal hospital and have to say that while the veterinary care is excellent, the office staff (not the vet techs) is terrible. I have waited an hour to both be taken back, wait for the vet and then be checked out. I've walked in and sat for twenty minutes without anyone in the office saying anything to me. I'm not sure why they think that when my pet is sick I want to sit around and wait to be taken back or even worse that I want to sit around and wait to pay at the end of a visit. I waited almost an hour to take my boy to the rainbow bridge. Dr. Sechler really is their saving grace. I saw Dr. Henkel once and he was also very nice but the remainder of my visits for my two dogs have been with Dr. Sechler. She was very, very compassionate and reasonable when discussing options for my Corgi who sadly had cancer and went to the rainbow bridge in January. The whole staff was absolutely great and super sweet during the entire process. They even sent a precious paw print on a card that brought me to tears. Dr. Sechler definitely cares and it shows. She was fantastic with my papillon, as was the vet technician who handled him. They treated him just as I would and babied the heck out of him. Dr. Sechler was also very reasonable when the papillon had a dental procedure and she called me herself several times to discuss the procedure and update me on how he was doing. Unfortunately, the office staff is rude and their timing is just not what it should be when you're shelling out 100s of dollars for your pet. So if you can handle waiting and rudeness, this clinic should be fine for you. The veterinary care is top notch. read more

I visit many vets with my profession as a dog trainer. Frequently I get asked by my clients which vets I recommend so I visit many in order to get a feel for the staff, facility, etc, so that I can confidently give them my recommendations. I visited Robinson animal hospital for the first time this last January. I took my dog, Nala, there and told them that I was looking for a new vet for her and that since I moved, they were my closest vet. Dr. Henkel took very good care of us. He was very kind with my dog and a very pleasant person to talk to. I had only taken her there for a yearly checkup since I hadn't even had her for a year and she was due. Dr. Henkel called me the next day and told me that Nala had heartworm disease. She wasn't showing any signs so we caught it early, thank goodness. He has been very helpful in getting us through this so far. When he first told me, we started the medication right away. My dog became very sick from the antibiotic before the treatment even started so I decided to take matters in to my own hands and try doing some holistic treatments for heartworm. Well, they failed. I went in to Robinson Animal Hospital for a Lunch and Learn with their staff 6 months later and he tested her for me because I told him she had thrown up that day and she is still positive. He was very comforting to me and said he would help us in every way and explained to me why my approach had failed. He did not make me feel like a terrible person for not taking his recommendations. We are going to get her better very soon and I feel extremely confident with them. I will not take her anywhere else from now on. Dr. Kate Ronczka contacted me personally since she had heard good things about me from her clients and since they had started to refer my dog training services and wanted to know more about me and what I do for my clients. We had a blast with the entire staff that day. It is amazing how caring this group of veterinarians and techs are with the animals that come through there. When I was there I saw Dr. Henkel, stitch up the leg of a very small bird, Dr. Kate was doing surgery on a cat, and another dog was waking from surgery on the other side of the room. I was astonished. Never once was there a complaint from anyone. They all worked together to get the job done. I would recommend this Animal Hospital to all in the area. read more

They took care of my dog Sam for 12 years and they treated both Sam and I as if we were part of their family. The Vets, Techs and front desk employees are wonderful. They all treated Sam as if they were treating their own dog. They were always very respectful and kind to me. When I lost my Sam they all mourned his loss with me. I have utilize the services of several of the physicians in this office. Every one that I have dealt with has done a fantastic job. Nothing is rushed and they really don't try to sell any services that are unnecessary. I have always gotten call backs anytime something serious was going on. I'm rather impressed by their services. There are a lot of negative comments on here about wait time and arriving late for appointments and having to reschedule. I question, when have these people last been to a physician's office that deals with humans? Many places run behind. A lot of times it's because you are getting quality care and not a provider that is just looking at the clock! I don't get upset when the office is running late because they're probably takeing care of an emergency or an issue that is going on that needs a little more time. I don't feel like I've ever been there where they've pushed me out the door prematurely. All of my questions have always been answered. As for them asking for you to reschedule when you're going to be late, most offices do that. You arriving late puts them behind for the next several appointments also. If they take emergencies that come in also, that will push them back even further! I know people have this headset that if the office is always running behind and seeing me late, why can't I show up late. That really doesn't work in a healthcare setting! All of the staff here has been great and the place is always clean! The thing I hate most about taking my cat to the vet is putting him in his kennel and listening to him cry on the ride there. They opened a Banfield in walking distance of my residence. I am going to continue taking him to Robinson Animal Hospital though because of the wonderful care he receives there! read more

I've only gone to this place twice, and for the same reason both times. I had to have two of my rats put down. I did encounter a bit of roughness, putting it nicely, from one of the front desk woman. I'm chalking it up to the fact that there were 5 guys trying to install a new air conditioner I believe, right in front of the entrance. I will say, this place saved me. I just moved to Pittsburgh from 7 hours away and needed a vet. Back home I had one on call and interned at one as well. So, needless to say, I needed a new vet. They only charged me $5 each to put them down where other places were going to charge me between $55 and $80. They have compassion for small animals, which makes me happy since I have about 12 different kinds of them. read more

We have used this animal hospital for several years, with about four different dogs. We have noticed a very different atmosphere lately. First, they schedule far too many appointments too close together. Our appointment today was at 10:20am. At 11:10, we decided to leave, especially when several pets were seen as soon as they arrived, much later than our arrival.The staff at the front desk is extremely unfriendly, would it kill them to smile once in a while??? The parking is "at your own risk". There are not enough spaces to accommodate their clients, especially given how close the appointments are scheduled. The hospital is located on busy Rte. 60, so there is no other place to park other than their postage stamp size lot. It's a shame that whoever the office manager is seems to think that this is the way to run what used to be our "go to" Vet for all our pets. We won't be back. read more

This place is amazing. I came here after I wasn't really satisfied with my current vet. Dr. Gardner was absolutely fabulous. She was so thorough, and genuinely concerned about my dog's health. She didn't make us feel pressured to do anything we weren't comfortable with either physically for my dog, or financially. She gave us great advice and gave my dog great care. The reception staff was extremely personable and helpful. They greeted us quickly and we got into the office to see the doctor within a very reasonable amount of time. The prices were also extremely reasonable. I was shocked when I got my bill and it didn't cost me a small fortune like the last place I was going. I am so coming back here anytime any of my pets need anything. Wonderful place and wonderful staff. I've since switched vets because of the following experience: My dog passed away from cancer and after a little while we got a new dog. I made an initial vet appointment for him in the evening. We got there and they had no record of us having an appointment. We had rushed out there after work and fought rush hour traffic to get there on time. They had us sit down and said that they would squeeze us in. I was upset but sat down. We waited there for an hour and a half and they still hadn't gotten us in or tried to squeeze us in. We were wasting our time. The receptionist came out and had a file for my old dog and pointed to my new dog and asked "This is so and so right?" I'm like, "No, he's dead. He passed away from cancer. I told you this on the phone." She went back and got a different file and said, "Is this the right dog?" I said, yes and she looked confused. She then told me that she had my new dog as being deceased and my old dog as being the one coming in for an appointment. How does that even happen when my new dog had never even been seen there before?! We finally got so angry we just left. As we were walking out the door I said, "Forget it, we're leaving." The receptionist said, "Okay, that's okay." My husband finally lost it and said, "No, it's not okay! We had an appointment. We have proof that we had an appointment and you haven't tried to get us in at all, you haven't apologized for your mistake or the inconvenience, you don't have our records correct, and you're losing business and will probably lose even more because we are going to tell our friends not to come here. So, no, I really don't think it's "okay."" Dr. Gardner did call and apologize later, both for the death of our deceased dog and for the issues we experienced. I felt badly because it wasn't her job to do the apologizing. I love this veterinarian, but I will not be going back because I don't trust the front desk to properly do their job. It's a shame. Dr. Gardner is the only reason I'm still giving this place 3 stars. Go to Chartier's Animal Hospital! They're wonderful! read more

My guinea pig contracted lice, and when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist refused to give me a timely appointment as the vets in that day "didn't see guinea pigs". She asked I wait 3 days to come in, despite the fact I had explained that my pet was scratching himself raw, was extremely uncomfortable, and needed to start treatment immediately. While I understand that exotic animals like guinea pigs require a certain particular knowledge base, I easily looked up what treatment was necessary on guinealynx.com and I'm sure any vet could have done the same. To suggest my animal wait 3 days was nothing but cruel. I found another vet willing to see us that day, and I have taken my business elsewhere. read more

We started taking our dog there about two years ago after we moved to the area. The receptionists were always rude and the wait time was ridiculous. A little over a year ago our dog was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma cancer. We decided against surgery because of her age and focused on maintaining her health otherwise. This week her health steadily started to decline. Her tumor had opened up and began to bleed. Then in the evening all of a sudden our very energetic up-beat dog no longer wanted to eat. The next morning she was constipated and could hardly walk. She seemed very disoriented. I called the vet and the only time they could fit her in was three days later. And finally the next day she started to shake and couldn't move at all. I called the vet to explain that her condition had worsened. The receptionist was extremely rude. She told me that she had no openings but would check with the doctor to see if my dog could be seen for an emergency case. After being on hold for an extremely long time she told me that both doctors were busy and so she didn't know. My dog was clearly in a lot of pain so I told her that we would take her to our old vet an hour away or to the emergency care on Camp Horne, PVSEC. Her response was to call if I needed to cancel my appointment for Monday and then hung up on me. We took our dog to the PVSEC where we had to sadly put her down. The staff there was wonderful and I am very pleased with how kind and understanding they were with us and our dog. As for robinson animal hospital, we will never go there again. For a place dedicated to helping animals, they seem to have no interest in doing so. read more

Well, you'll definitely be told to be early for your appointment, but don't do it! I travel 1/2 hour to Robinson to take my cat for medical care. She's pretty tense by the time we arrive, but then to sit for another 1/2 hour while we wait to be seen is very irritating. However, this doesn't even begin to compare to the amount of time that has been wasted waiting on hold when calling them! Tonight, I had concerns about my cat (who was just there 3 days ago) and I was put on hold for 7.5 minutes. No one ever did come back for me, so I hung up and called back. I was basically told that if they're busy, it's just too bad. I was asked if I'd like to let Dr. Henkel know about it and I said yes, definitely. The person answering the phone said "we've had other complaints". That makes me feel better. Well, we'll see if Dr. Henkel values my business. I work in an office where my staff is instructed to answer the phone on the first ring and NO ONE sits on hold for more than a minute. If someone isn't available, voicemail is a last resort and everyone is instructed to return calls immediately. The best part is, my office is not even responsible for saving pet's lives. I pay more for a veterinarian appointment here than I've ever paid for a human appointment; which is fine - I'll pay what I need to so that my kitty gets treatment, but with these prices, you can't hire a $10/hr. receptionist to answer the phones? I took my cat there after she had passed out after a loud meow. She is my world after many years of hardships, losses, etc....this I made VERY clear to Robinson Animal Hospital. She was very anemic, she had some blockage in her intestine & she had a bad internal infection. They performed surgery, my final bill was $1,400.00. They told me she had cancer, they said she needed to be put down/euthanized. I nursed her back to health, unable to part with her but also not wanting her to suffer. She got sick again, after about two or three weeks after her final dose of all her medicines. I called Robinson Animal Hospital to get some more antibiotics and scheduled once again to have her euthanized. I could not understand why these people were so eager to euthanize her or have me spend THOUSANDS of dollars to "help" her with her cancer....so I started my own investigation. Come to find out, the blockage in her intestine was a collection of hair balls, NOT CANCER AS ROBINSON ANIMAL HOSPITAL SAID. It was winter, she has long hair and she cleans constantly. The anemia was because the hair ball(s) had her completely blocked and an infection, of course, came about. She passed out because of severe anemia & was very close to death. After days of research I found that giving a cat egg yolk lecithin will dissolve the fat in the internal hair balls which in turn will stop the blockage in their intestine...the cat will stop having bowel movements if there is an internal blockage, it will cause an internal infection & the infection will cause severe anemia & sadly a slow, painful death for the cat. I found this all out because my cat stop going to the bathroom & was not being her usual self...she had another blockage. It's been 8 months now, she is healthy as ever, very active & loveable again. I take care of her, I do NOT TRUST ROBINSON ANIMAL HOSPITAL to my cat's care. Bottom line, they LIED, they knew exactly what was wrong with her & not only did they HIDE the information they LIED about the entire thing, they were more than happy to kill my cat because I would not spend THOUSANDS of dollars on a FALSE case of cancer they said she had so in their eyes 'if we can't make money off of him & his cat we might as well kill the cat'. DO NOT TRUST/BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE, YOUR ANIMAL/PET/LOVED ONE IS A TOOL TO SCAM YOU AND IF THEY CAN NOT MAKE A LARGE SUM OF MONEY FROM THAT, THEY WILL MAKE A HANDFUL OF MONEY BY KILLING YOUR PET. I will NEVER, EVER go back there & have no problem confronting them on this issue....they deserve to be sued and closed permanently!! They ONLY give a 'one star' review because I have to pick at least one star. read more
