After reading the reviews, I decided to try this place. I needed two pairs of jeans hemmed by next day so when I called, I made sure that I asked the question. The lady on the phone was VERY NICE saying "sure sure of course" but most of what she said was a little hard to understand since she had a very heavy accent. When I brought my designer jeans in, they were nice but kinda passive. I asked the question again and their answer was "oh...well, ok I guess." The end result was not that good. Yes, they were ready for pick up by the next day BUT the quality of work was....well, not the best. I love having custom fit clothes. You know, where the hem of your trousers hits just perfectly at the base of your shoe or how the cuff of your jacket hits right at your wrist. I'm 5"4 and long waisted, so clothes off the rack look okay but never WOW...and I'm a fan of the WOW. I love to shop and I love to bargain shop, finding that perfect St. John's suit jacket or Tahari skirt and then put everything together just so, so why not customize the fit as well, I figure! Especially when Stitch in Time takes just a few days to get me to knock 'em dead. I first came to Stitch in Time after being recommend by the Dilliard's suit salesman, great guy by the way, and i needed a suit altered within hours, literally for a funeral out of town. Stitch in Time came through. We explained our situation and the owner told us after 4pm the entire suit would be ready. Same day service, I was thrilled. Since that fateful test by fire, I have brought numerous pairs of pants in for alteration- that whole 5'4 can be a pain and I get right in and out and back in a few days to pick up my clothes. I have even gotten creative and bought a skirt, knowing I'll want it taken from A-line to pencil and Stitch in Time puts it together for just a few dollars. I really wish that the owner exhibited better customer care (or even acted like she wants to keep customers), because the seamstress work is actually decent. I've been going here for YEARS to have pants hemmed and items taken in, but unfortunately I'm tired of being treated rudely and dismissively by someone I'm paying for a service. The last time I was in I took in 11 items, and was "greeted" by the owner who was on the phone. I use the term "greeted" lightly as I stood in the lobby waiting for a break in her phone conversation to be noticed, and then was waved into a changing room. As I tried on the first two items it became clear she wasn't getting off the phone. I indicated that I had questions for her (wanted thoughts on lengths and to know if she could do certain fabrics that I had). She seemed irritated that I would be so demanding, but did get off the phone so I could ask my questions. A few items later a gentleman came in....I was left standing on the podium waiting while she had an in depth conversation with him. Finally we were back on track...when the portable phone rang and she picked it up and began an excited conversation....breaking from it to tell me "It's my daughter, I don't get to talk to her much" before continuing talking while giving me and my items minimal attention. When I came back for the items a week later they weren't ready despite a call from her the day before asking me a question about some of the hems (guess she couldn't remember what we'd talked about between all her phone calls while she was helping me) and telling me to come the next day (which was the originally indicated day). When I arrived and they weren't ready she asked me to come back in an hour. When I returned, she told me that she only accepts cash or check, neither of which I had on me (true, I'd been there before but forgotten). When I expressed frustration at the limited lack of payments and having to come back a now third time she told me that it wasn't her fault she clearly has a sign behind the counter indicating this and was unapologetic about having failed to remind me. I finally found a tailor! Yea!!! Fatemeh, the owner, is always here and she is SO nice! I've had several things altered here already, ranging in complexity from the hemming of a pair of dress pants to the total refitting of a long, complex, embroidered dress skirt from India. Everything has turned out lovely, and the prices are great, too ($9.50 for a pair of pants is just fine with me). They'll even rush orders, if you need it. I highly recommend this place. Just don't tell too many other people, or I won't be able to get my same-day alterations :) read more

Unprofessional, disorganized, DISSAPPOINTED! Tried this for the first and definitely the last time. Dropped of a dress for a small alteration, adding lace to the bottom of a dress that was a bit short. The lady at the counter initially said it'd be ready in 3 weeks. I was surprised it would take so long so she said 15 days she could do instead which still seemed like a long time but I agreed. I went in today to pick up the dress, 2 days after it was supposed to ready and the lady could not find the dress. After 5-10 mins of looking she finally found the dress in a bag on a table, unaltered where it had been sitting for over 2 weeks. The lady asked me if I could come back later and promised to have it done but I decided not to waste anymore time with this business and took the dress home, pulled out my sewing machine and made the alteration myself in 10 mins for free. Fantastic Bridal Alterations! I called with a quick turnaround on my wedding dress, only 2 1/2 weeks before the wedding and she said no problem. I came in and she was so sweet, got my dress marked for alterations. Picked it up today and wow! It fits perfectly! She even was able to fix a small hole in the lace by the button. Just choose a different alterations place. Beware this place severely ripped me off and may do the same to you! A Stitch in Time has done 2 other items for me over 6 years ago but this time, when I took a bridesmaid dress there to be altered, they specifically did my hem, stitched 2 darts, and added fabric to the sides. That's it. And these simple alterations cost me nearly $150.00! I was so shocked, I started to cry...the hem cost $55 alone! After I put it on, my bra still showed on the sides and in the front. I was so upset, I just took the dress and vowed to get it altered elsewhere. (my mother ended up helping me out). I've never heard of or experienced such pricing. Guess in this economy anyone is willing to jack up their prices to make a buck off of a needy bridesmaid. The thing is, I mostly wish I had known how much it would be ahead of time, but there was no forewarning, nothing. If I had known, I could have chosen to go elsewhere to get my alterations done. Will not be back. Came to pick up jeans on Tuesday and sat while owner talked on phone discussing her recent eye doctor appointment. Rattled my keys and she got the hint and asked the person to call back. Jeans weren't ready. No big deal. It was only 11 am. However, picked them up Saturday for a date night with hubby and with my four inch heels,, the jeans still drag the ground!!!!! I was worried when she didn't spend much time when I went in--other tailors pin them fairly well and really take their time making sure they have the right break in the hem. She didn't do anything but spend thirty seconds. I should've run then but thought I was being overly picky. Obviously, I wasn't. I can't wear the jeans tonight bc they would fray. Last week I came in to the store almost in tears because I found out my bridesmaids dress that I am to wear to my sisters wedding this weekend was a little bit more snug that I remembered. I brought it in doubtful that anything could be done and ready to call the bride when the woman (I wish I had gotten her name, but she was so sweet) assured me that everything would be fine. It was so effortless on my part. She charged me almost 1/4 of what a competitor quoted me and had the dress back to me in LESS THAN A WEEK and the work was beautiful. I do not recommend this place. We were given this place for alterations for my wedding dress. They said she was great and more affordable than others. Before I had her do my wedding dress I had her alter my dress for the bridal shower. Terrible terrible terrible! Its uneven and the chest area was done all wrong. In addition she double charged me. My mom paid for it up front and I was not aware of this until after I had paid for it again! Thankfully I did not take something as important as my wedding dress there. Just had a pair of jeans hemmed here. The job was quick, but mediocre. The woman who owns the place is nice and the turn around was quick, but the work won't have me going back. The stitching on the hem is uneven and reminds me of the hems my mom used to do on our cheap sewing machine. I wrote a review for a place on Guadelupe and McClintock in December of 2008, they will get my business again before I ever go back to A Stitch in Time. read more

DO NOT bring your business here! My pick up date was 6/3 as it was clearly stated on my copy of the receipt. I get there on 6/3 with my receipt and she said it was for 6/5. I showed her my receipt and she showed me hers. She wrote over the 3 with a 5!! I told her that it was very clear what she had done. She said she couldn't figure out if it was a 3 or 5. I asked why she didn't call me and she said, "I don't know". No apology or explanation! I had to drive back the next day before my flight. She was not apologetic and had no explanation as to why she did what she did. Bad Business!! Will never go back!! read more
