This business has recently changed ownership. The new name is now A Star Smog. I like the new ownership much better than the old one. For one, the new ownership is open Monday through Saturday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. This is much better than the old ownership. The old ownership had so many closed days. The prices are very reasonable. I saved $10 by using their coupon. If you pay cash, you receive a free gift (a car air freshener). Great service and no appointments needed. Low price smog check and the guy working here has been here forever... which is a good sign. Smog checks are not something I look forward to - and because I own more than one vehicle they seem to come up all the time. Smog, smog, smog. Luckily this place is close to the freeway and convenient to where I live. I practically drive by all the time to get to the 880 or Home Depot. Look for coupons or whatever else - but they have posted deals on the front and inside - depending on year it varies - but older cars pre 2000 are more difficult to smog and need to go on the rollers. I've had some readiness monitors that had caused me trouble in the past. A combination of bad exterior temperature sensor and weak battery on a car I don't use all that frequently. This station was very helpful in explaining all that. Probably hard to find a better deal around and its fast and friendly and clean. read more

After 8 years of ownership, this year's DMV renewal letter had that 'Smog Check Required' notice on the very top in bold letters. Dang it. Instantly, my head recalled all the long waits, the hassle of schlepping my car down to a seedy looking shop in the bad part of town, the 'questionable' professional opinions of the tech working there who says my car needs additional things done... it all made my heart sink. After checking Yelp, and actually getting a discount coupon in the mail a few weeks earlier, I decided to give the local small business A Street Smog Check a go. The shop is literally right off the freeway on A street in a busy section of Hayward. Finding the shop was easy, it is well marked with banners and signage. I went in and asked if I could use the coupon I received in a mailer - he told me yes, he will honor the advertised price. He gave me a final total, with the included smog certificate fee, and I agreed. I handed him the keys and sat down in the waiting area of the clean spacious shop. I could hear him working on my car, and in just a few minutes he returned with the smog certificate in hand. All said, the entire process took perhaps 20 minutes? Yes, I was the sole customer when I arrived, but even with 2-3 jobs ahead of you, you could easily accomplish your smog check in well under an hour, I would think. If you're seeking a quick, easy, painless and cost effective way to get that smog check done on your car - this is a solid option to consider. I know I'll be coming back, and I'd recommend this place to all my friends and family in the area, who are looking for a fast, efficient, low cost alternative. 5 outta 5 stars from me. ***pro tip*** - If you do happen to come in on a busy weekend, or at peak customer times, there is a McD's right next door with free wifi and all the chicken nuggies you could ever want. Super frustrating. I needed to get a smog test so I called ahead of time. The guy told me that he was going to run errands in the middle of the day and to come back after 2pm. I did just that, but when I got there, the place was closed. Still a good cheap spot. Located right next to a McDonald's in not the best place in Hayward but you get in and out quick. The lady who tripped in the review below is a one off they have signs everywhere now saying "watch your step". The check in offer is a little deceiving it's about $25 out the door for test only and $35 out the door with the star and you need to pay cash. We stopped in on a Saturday mid-day for a smog check and it literally was the fastest service I've ever received. As soon as you pull in, someone comes to take your car and starts working on it while you're filling out paperwork, by the time we were done with paperwork, the car was done. If you like falling down on the floor when you walk into a place this is the business for you! See photo. Trip and fall step down is there AS you step over the threshold to enter. I fell fully down, ruined my jeans, skinned the hell out of my knee. An older lady sitting there said she did the exact same thing when she came in. They have NO first aid kit and could not even provide me with a bandaid for my bloody knee. What kind of place doesn't even have a First Aid kit on site?! A lousy one. Avoid. read more

So I was looking for a good and fast service for my smog and actually a Star Station, after asking on the site Nextdoor they recommended this one. I have to say they were right. I called in the morning to make sure I could go after work and the very nice guy on the phone told me make sure you call before if is late so I can wait for you. I called once I was on my way and again very pleasant on the phone I got there got taken care of right away. The gentleman behind the counter and who also did my smog was very nice polite and professional they gave me a quote over the phone and it was the same price once I was done. I have no complaints I am glad I found them and so close to home as well. If you are looking for a great place and great service this will be the one for you! I noticed that this service station have advertised their smog test prices with clarity unlike other stations and hence called to setup an appointment. When I showed up at my appointment time, I just saw a board of this shop in front of a closed gate with not even a soul around. There was no indication that if this shop exists behind that closed gate. Calling their contact number went unanswered despite repeated attempt. I went back home after wasting my precious two hours of time. Be careful to trust this shop. read more

Overall my experience here was great! This place only has the owner so the wait can be a bit longer but not to bad! Failed my smog check sadly but the owner allows for free retests 14 days after your initial test! He gave me instructions on what I can do to past my next test and the next time I passed! One star off for not opening during posted hours. read more

I took my Mercedes here for smog. I've been driving my Mercedes with no check engine light on or issues at all. Jason went ahead and started the smog test. During the test I noticed that he was taking extra long to verify all the smog equipments under the hood. When he was done with the smog test, he printed a smog result and saw him signed it. I thought everything was ok and passed the test. He made sure he collected the money first and then tell me that engine light was on and I didn't pass. I was so confused because I know my engine light was not on when I took it in. When drove my car out the smog area, he stepped on the gas so hard that I heard my wheels screeching. Jason have no respect for his customers. Drive the car around for few days, engine light turned off on its own and I took it to another smog place and passed with flying colors. The reviews are accurate depending on the guys mood or if he needs some extra cash he might screw your smog up or charge you extra for some bs. Your car most liklely will pass the smog but he will make up some bs on the visual portion of the test or claim you have too much smoke coming out of your exhaust on a cold day. Unless you have a brand new small car with low miles avoid this place at all cost they will waste your time and extort you. read more
