I wish I could give them a zero star review. I went there for a smog check every time I needed one with different vehicles I had. I have no bad experience with that. However, the last time I went I decided to also get an oil change from them. They talked me into getting the synthetic oil change which cost more. They said synthetic oil lasts with many more miles. My car's warning light just went on for oil change this morning. I have recorded the mileage because it was the first time I got a synthetic oil change and I wanted to compare. The mileage I got out of it was 2,955 miles. It was less than the mileage I got from regular oil changes of 3,925 from Honda dealership. So my conclusion would be they charged me for an expensive synthetic oil change but gave me a very low quality regular oil change. Also, I asked the jerk if he put air in my tires which requires by law. He said yes and it was a lie. I drove home and the next day the warning light was on for low tire pressure. Please don't go there to do business. They are very dishonest people. I will never go back there again for smog check too. read more

Tech was very rude. Told me to leave. I bring my vehicles here for their smogs not any more poor customer service and have no knowledge of their profession or rules of smog and areas. I'm happy to say that recently Shawn performed a biannual smog test on my vehicle and as usual it passed immediately, it was an in/out the door in 15-20 minutes. Brought in my old truck. They said it didn't pass cuz I had a battery change recently. They charged me 91 of the 99 bucks. Basically knew it failed right away because of this (didn't know that was a thing and I guess that's on me). Complete BS in my opinion that they charged me that much for about a minute of work. Fast service; however, it is unclear when arriving that you should get out of your car and go into the office, rather than remaining in your car, or heading to the open window facing the front. Instead of simply washing their hands of the issue (which wasn't their problem) they offered to help us sort through the issue, which was above and beyond what was required of them. They're knowledgeable and will answer all your questions. Helpful in a way that they won't let you feel you don't know anything because you're a lady, will take time to explain everything to you. My go-to car shop for smog and oil change. The other shop (Larry's shop) here in Castro Valley not only demeaned and vandalized my car (wrote 5w-30 in permanent marker in my hood) but also doesn't care about their customers because he acts like all people go to him because he's so well-established in the area already, that one customer will make no difference for his business. read more

I had been going here for about 10 years. This year I brought in a local competitors coupon for them to match per their sign on the door. Not only did they not match it, they didn't even try to come close. I told them I would not be returning and they really didn't seem to care. How can I start? Brought my husbands car and did not pass. Took car back within 30 days and passed and as promised it was free but there's a $10 retest fee. It would have been fine if I had the money. My husband is at work so I'm stuck! The owner said it's okay, to just pass by when I have it another time. Showed up first thing in the 8am on Saturday to get a smog check. Employee showed up late to open the shop. Price seemed a little higher than normal (41.95) but good thing they accept competitors coupons! Tried to use a coupon from nearby Castro valley competitor but was told he couldn't accept it because it was on my phone instead of a printed copy. They should probably specify that on their sign. After coupon was rejected I asked how much he could give me off and he said $5. We were charged 50% more here because our DMV notice requires a STAR station versus a regular station. I found out later that there's no difference in the test !!! I realize the price is posted, but I still have to mention this. According to reliable sources, when your DMV renewal notice says you need a STAR station, you have to go to one. Some stations are STAR certified and some are not, but the test is exactly the same !!! Some honest STAR stations will charge the same price regardless of what your DMV notice says, simply because they are performing the exact same test. read more

Great local smog checking business. Even though we all are required to get them done, it's always so much better when you know your car will pass and it is easy and quick and not too expensive. I highly recommend this place over Jiffy Lube or some other corporate entity who just want to take your money. At Smog World, if they notice your car might not pass they will let you know so that you can fill 'er up with gas or go change the oil, but they are only trying to be helpful and make sure that our cars pass the dang smog test! If I could give it zero star I would. The owner speaks very curt to his customers. His employee was very kind and nice but I will never return because of how I was treated by the owner. They also nickel and dime you. I had a $10 coupon and still had to pay $70 to get a smog check. Don't be tricked by their coupons. About what you would find at any other smog place, around $40. I guess there are two different types of smogs you could get, so there is a more expensive one for like $60 I think. This is the first time I used them; I came here as the place I went to, which was supposed to open at 8:30 AM, was not open when I arrived. My first impression was positive, as their parking lot is quite spacious, unlike the other place. They were cheerful, helpful, professional, and I was out of there in 10 minutes (I arrived around 8:40 AM and was the only car there at the time as obviously people were getting ready for July 4th). The price charged was quite reasonable, and quite a bit lower than some other places I have gone to.
