A Tasteful Affair catered a lunch at my work and I have never been so impressed with the food and service from a caterer. Even though the situation for them was less than ideal (our space is not the easiest to work within), they handled everything with aplomb! We had a beef and chicken option for proteins, and both were juicy and tender, and full of flavor! The asiago potatoes were my absolute favorite part, though the green beans with carrots were exceptional as well. I'm already married, but if I was planning a wedding, I would look no further than these amazing folks. Wow wow wow. I plan events for a church in Livermore, and quite a lot of those events are funerals/memorial service. Families always have food brought in, and it's usually just fine. However, today was the first time I've coordinated a service where the family used "A Tasteful Affair" and I am BLOWN AWAY. Every single element of their service has been above and beyond any other company or restaurant I've worked with here. This is a very overdue review! I was thrilled to find Peggy and Chef Kevin when I built out Zoho's events out of its new flagship headquarters in Pleasanton. A Tasteful Affair recently catered and served at our wedding at the Rengstorff House. Everything went very smoothly and all of our guests are still raving about how good the food tasted. There were a lot of moving parts to our wedding as the Rengstorff House does not provide any rentals (chairs, tables, silverware, etc) but A Tasteful Affair made sure everything ran so smoothly. As the bride, I didn't have to worry about anything on the wedding day - something I hear is very rare! The servers were all very helpful and smiling the whole day which I appreciate as well. I don't usually write reviews.... But when something like this happens on your wedding day it's not easy to move on. Here is my letter to Chef Kevin and his co-owner Peggy at 3 in the morning after our disastrous wedding day because of "A tasteful Affair" Hi Peggy and Chef Kevin, I'm having trouble sleeping tonight because of the meeting today. Kevin, thanks for reducing the balance and the offers of a free meal or duck. But that won't erase what happened on Saturday August 11th, 2012. After we finally handed over the final check to Chef Kevin and walked out of your office tonight, we realized we had tipped your staff $1100 dollars in cash that night because it was assigned to our coordinator to pay out the vendors. We would have reduced that amount to half if we weren't so mentally drained from worrying about our guests getting fed. We left your office not fully satisfied with the reason for the sub par service at our reception. Chef Kevin, you gave an explanation of Peggy being late 3 hours because she has cataracts and has trouble seeing. Peggy, I hope you had a good time at your daughters birthday but we asked to meet you tonight as well so you could explain to us what went wrong. You were the main person in charge of catering that night. Chef Kevin said he had full disclosure of the night but did not give us an explanation. Did you go over the 6 pages of notes from the walk through with your staff? Kevin, you bailed on us 10 days prior because of a 400 person event and blamed the poor service on new staff. You made no apologies for assigning inexperienced staff and only deflected with "it wasn't supposed to happen like this" and "I feel terrible things went this way." Jen and I feel that we were short changed and not given the promised level of service and attention. Salads were not ready at the tables as promised with a side of dressing at each table. They were slowly delivered 30 minutes past the expected ready timeline and I had complaints from guests that they did not receive salads. If Chef Neil said they were all ready why weren't they on the tables and why were we short of salads? Other guests said you were short on place settings. They saw staff grab the napkins from a bread basket to create a place setting. I emailed the place settings to Peggy as well as our coordinator. There shouldn't have been much of a difference. The Buffet ran out of salmon, rice and vegetables on the first pass. There was no second pass. Us being Asian has nothing to do with you running out of fish, rice and vegetables when you said that you would be portioning it and that you also assured us on several occasions that you never run out of food. We hired you for your expertise in estimating food amounts and your professional staff to portion the food out appropriately. There was no second bar. Thanks for pointing out that my DJ grabbed the tables for the 2nd bar. Even if they did use the tables for the second bar they didn't start serving at the available downstairs bar until at least 8:30pm. When my guests were seated behind schedule they were thirsty and there was no water at the table. I had to look for staff and point them to our parents tables to provide water. I was asked why was I the one asking the staff to provide water on my wedding day. You said there was 9 staff that night. I can't say I saw more than 5. The wedding toasts were recorded on video with my best man and the maid of honor having to raise empty glasses for us because the bar wasn't ready downstairs and the staff did not go around to pour wine as promised. The lack of liquid in the glasses for the toasts will be forever preserved and will always remind us of the lack of service that evening. I really shouldn't be thinking about this 2 days into my new life. Alan -- Peggy did reply the next day with more excuses. Basically poor planning that they didn't have enough staff with the given time to setup and she didn't allot enough time to get to the venue because she didn't have a fast trak and traffic on the bridge which caused her to be 3 hours late. Can't forget the cataract. According to Chef Kevin, they have been in business for 9 years. I would think that much experience would be enough to properly plan for our wedding reception but it wasn't. She did apologize but we still feel our evening was ruined. Wedding days our supposed to be special and enjoyable. I remember looking for staff and trying to get water for my head tables. Jen remembers having to step away for 15 minutes because she was so distraught about the Catering service that night. My guests further told me they had to pour their own drinks at the bar because there were no bar tenders until after 9pm. Not enough staff, not enough food. So empty glasses for our toasts preserved on video and empty glasses for our guests as well. Empty glasses... We can't even say they they were half full that night with "A tasteful affair". read more

I hired A Tasteful Affair from Seattle to cater my wedding. It was something of an act of faith, since I was not able to meet them ahead of time, or arrange a tasting. It could have gone very poorly -- but the only thing they failed to do was disappoint me. I absolutely got more than I paid for. My partner and I decided on disposable plates to save money...A Tasteful Affair showed up with beautiful china instead. They decorated beautifully, having obviously read my mind, since my exact instructions were "Oh, I don't know...something colorful, I guess." And the entire staff was so friendly and personable, fitting so seamlessly in my wedding that they became instant family. Food is extremely important to me, so I was hoping for the best and fearing the worst. But when I arrived to my reception, and a server handed me a sausage stuffed mushroom, all of my worries fell away. That mushroom was a thing of beauty. I don't think I ate anything that day that was anything less. I really wanted a unique menu with fairly casual food; instead of a chicken option and a beef option, I had a colorful Mexican-Italian buffet with carne asada, cheese enchiladas, and a chicken asiago penne that had me licking my plate. They never questioned my desires, only engineered their happening. Seriously, A Tasteful Affair was the difference between a great wedding and an absolutely fantastic wedding for me. We hired A Tasteful Affair for our outdoor Wedding reception of 90 guests in Brentwood in May. These guys are the real deal, and exceeded our expectations in every way. I am a foodservice professional with 30 yrs in the business, and we had some high profile clients on our guest list, so I had high standards for my own wedding. I have also dined in some of the finest restaurants in the world, and I can say with confidence that Peggy Welch, Kevin Kerciu & Co. are world class. From the time of our initial contact, I was impressed by how quickly they replied to my inquiry. From there it only got better. Peggy was an absolute pleasure to work with, always friendly, very accommodating and reassuring along the way. Peggy and Kevin were willing to work with our budget, and after discussing our options, we decided on a Mediterranean style buffet, including Antipasti, Imported cheeses, Seasonal fruit, Salad, Breads, Grilled seasonal vegetables, Penne ala Vodka, Chicken Saltimbocca, and Mesquite grilled Tri tip in a Cabernet mushroom sauce. When we set up a tasting with Chef Kevin, I was immediately impressed by his passion for his craft, and his fun and friendly personality. However, it was the food that sealed the deal. His formal training at the Culinary Institute became apparent as the food was skillfully prepared, and artistically presented. After signing on the dotted line, we proceeded to finalize all the details regarding rentals, guest count etc. Peggy even included the China at no charge to help us stay within budget. When my fiancé had difficulty with color choices for the linens, Peggy took it upon herself to set-up 4 different tables, and email the photos to help with the decision. They either answered every call, or replied the same day, which really lent confidence to a nervous bride and groom doing their own planning. I kept a close eye on the event order as changes were made, as this is where some caterers can take advantage of you, but they never deviated from their original quote and were true to their word. They were very meticulous during the planning stages, and did a site visit in Brentwood and took the time to consider every detail. The week before our wedding presented a new challenge. Rain was in the forecast! Once again, they were on top of it. 3 days before Peggy was able to have outdoor heating and tents on standby. We luckily ended up not needing the tents, but glad she came through with the heaters last minute. On our wedding day, the execution was flawless. The rentals arrived early allowing us time to make adjustments on the setup. Everyone was on time, and ahead of schedule. Once I arrived with my best man, I knew I had nothing to worry about. Peggy's buffet table was beautifully laid out utilizing color, height and proportion. The large-scale fresh flower bouquet in co-coordinating colors she provided was the perfect centerpiece and finishing touch. It made the perfect canvas upon which Chef Kevin painted his culinary artistry. The food was masterfully prepared at the peak of freshness and full of flavor. Kevin showcased his garde manger skill in an eye catching, elegant, presentation of abundant contrasting colors. The appetizer displays also impressed, the grilled asparagus and squash were not over done, the wide varieties of imported cheeses were top quality served with grapes, nuts, dried fruit, honey and baguettes. The penne ala vodka was al dente in a velvety sauce of tomatoes, garlic, basil, vodka and cream without being too heavy. The chicken saltimbocca was tender with a hint of sage, and his mesquite-grilled tri-tip had just enough smoke to compliment the wonderful cabernet mushroom sauce. One often overlooked, but very important detail is the quality of the coffee served at a banquet. Everyone enjoyed the superb dark roast coffee they served. All through the reception, the service was impeccable. Our guests are still complimenting us on the wonderful service! All the place settings were spotless, the glasses were always full, the buffet never ran out of food, and dirty plates were deftly cleared. Dale, Chris, John, Scott, Skip and Jenn, our bartender were all warm, friendly, calm, yet attentive, polished and thoroughly professional without being obsequious. These guys were on their game, always smiling, and genuinely fun to be around. We enjoyed it even more when they obliged our request to join us on the dance floor and in our photo booth. A Tasteful Affair looked after every detail, so that my bride and I were able to relax and enjoy our wedding. At the conclusion of the reception, Peggy thought to provide us with a box of food to take to the Hotel for us to enjoy afterward. We hosted a Celebration of Life for my father-in-law this past weekend. With so many emotions running a muck, we knew we needed to hire a full service caterer to take care of the event. Having contacted a handful of caterers, I was very at ease with the initial call that I had with Peggy. She was very patient with our requests and last minute changes since we did not have a final headcount till 5 days prior to the celebration. With over a hundred guests, each expressed their delight in the presentation of the table set-ups, quality of the food (pear salad, lemon chicken, roasted pork & cheesecake delights) and friendly staff. The memorial service ended quicker than anticipated and with no hesitation, Peggy contacted Kevin (Chef) and had the food delivered half an hour earlier than originally scheduled. We had a few guests who were gluten intolerant and asked if they could set aside a few servings for them, but Kevin managed to accommodate the entire buffet to be "gluten free" without jeopardizing the flavor for any of the dishes! The entire event will be cherished by our family & friends. We find comfort in knowing our beloved father would have been proud of the celebration. I have to apologize to the amazing staff at A Tasteful Affair. These ladies took care of an Employee Appreciation Event that we had in the fall and I thought I wrote a review. I raved about them somewhere! From start to finish these ladies we such a pleasure to deal with. Emails were answered promptly and the proposal was sent quickly by Mary. They were able to pull off an event on very short notice. They have a most impressive and extensive menu. I decided on an Asian-themed menu - we had Potstickers, Teriyaki Meatballs, Vegetarian Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay, Smoked Salmon on Cucumber Rounds, Wild Mushroom Tartlets, Coconut Shrimp and Spinach and Artichoke Rangoons. The food was PHENOMENAL and plentiful! Everything was delicious and there were no complaints, even from the pickiest of eaters. My mother and I did a tasting for my upcoming wedding. Have have to say they were the fastest to respond to our voicemail and called us back in 24 hours. We actually spoke to the chef and he was wonderful he asked us questions about our wedding, style, theme etc. I said what we were thinking , a few passed appetizers, salad, vegetarian pasta dish, chicken option and a beef option. We also informed the chef about my mothers severe pork allergy which he said was not an issue and could easily accommodate. We arrived at the tasting room and the table setting was lovely, and I was amazed to see that on our personalized menu in large bold font was a notice of my mothers pork allergy! It really made me feel confident in the service to come. We were served a variety of appetizers at least 8 different ones. We were also served wine and sparkling water to cleanse our pallets. After the appetizers we were served 4 different and delicious chicken dishes to choose from. As well as two wonderful and perfectly prepared beef dishes. The food and the service was exceptional! My daughter was married this past weekend. The reception was at a winery so I had to get a caterer and all the rentals. The tables, chairs, forks, glasses, well you get the idea. I can't recommend A Tasteful Affair enough after they catered my daughter's wedding (and rehearsal dinner) at the Ralston White Retreat, which is a DIY venue. I attended a wedding reception run by this outfit. The food was served late. Usually hunger is the best spice, but that spice wasn't pulling its weight. You'd think that they'd hit the backup plan: get everyone drunk so they don't notice the bad food. My glass was empty for quite some time because they under-staffed the event. I overheard the wedding planner complaining about the staff count being less than what was in the contract. Bait and switch, I guess thats why the food tasted like bait. They arrived early with plenty of time to set up the buffet table, 12 tables of eight with flower arrangements, and wonderful food and spectacular service. They even put up a bar like setting to serve iced tea, lemonade, water and wine which we brought to have them serve. They dressed in very upscale uniforms and could not have been nicer. A Tasteful Affair just catered a huge party for me on Saturday to celebrate my husband's birthday. He has been battling cancer this past year and I really wanted to make the event special without making myself crazy. We had 80 guests and a special asian theme and it was beyond awesome. Chef Kevin and his team, together with Peggy were stupendous in every aspect of execution. They were super easy to work with, heard all my concerns and desires and exceeded my expectations in every way. They transformed my space as if on Extreme Home Magic Makeover efficiently and stylishly, and broke it all down afterwards with ease and expediency.
