I recently attended a very large corporate event catered by La Bonne. The food was plentiful and constantly refreshed, which was great. But the quality was mediocre at best, with desperately overcooked rice and dry-as-a-bone carved turkey. The flavors were decent, though, even if things were overcooked. The desserts tasted mass-produced and like they'd come out of a freezer. If they ARE made in-house, that would make me sad, because the quality of the ingredients was noticeably low, and choux pastry as that in the cream puffs should never taste that bready and mealy. The servers were mostly polite, although not always very responsive about serving food, but overly aggressive about busing tables. Several women kept bugging us while we were eating to see if we were done with any of our dishes. Honestly, that came across as pushy and a little rude. Let people finish, leave them alone until they're done eating, no one wants their food to get cold(er) while they have to answer to someone who wants to bus the table aggressively every 2-3 minutes! I am posting this review to let others know that this might not be the best catering company for a very large event, since it seems like their more positive reviews are for smaller events, and that might be where they excel! read more

We had a mixed experience using La Bonne catering for our wedding: Pros 1. They were extremely accommodating of food allergies. The bride has celiac disease and they were able to make all gluten free food that was safe from cross contamination. 2. The food was very delicious especially the risotto and braised short ribs. 3. Things primarily ran smoothly on the day. Cons 1. Several months before the event, they were extremely challenging to get a hold of. It took two months of emails and phone calls to get several questions answered. 2. We signed a catering proposal with a certain cost estimate. Three months before the event, they shared that many costs had been left off the original proposal and gave us a new proposal that was thousands of dollars more (this was so close to the wedding we did not have any options regarding finding a different caterer). 3. On the day, they were not ready to serve the drinks at the beginning of the cocktail hour and guests had to wait 10mins before the first guests were able to get their drinks. read more

If you read the negative reviews here they're all from the same party with 500+ people, but La Bonne just did our 175 person wedding and we couldn't have been happier! We worked with Fernando and felt like VIPs the entire time, we made a few special requests for sides and passed apps that they met with no questions asked. They have a great menu but if you want something specific they will with with you to make it happen. The staff was super friendly, professional and efficient. I used to work in catering so I was keeping an eye out for that. I would definitely recommend going with La Bonne for your event. read more

Let me just put this out into the universe before I say anything more - FERNANDO IS SIMPLY THE BEST. Besides saying "yes" to my husband, choosing La Bonne to cater our wedding may have been my best decision yet. ;) I had such an amazing experience from start to finish and we loved that they are a certified green business. I found La Bonne through our venue's preferred vendors list and from the very first meeting through our to our amazing ceremony and reception, I never once doubted my decision. I had several meetings with Fernando, including the tasting (which the husband was QUITE happy to help with) and I felt like he and I just clicked. He knew exactly what I envisioned, sometimes before I knew how to vocalize it, and he made my planning experience so much easier. I was calling my theme "woodsy chic" and everything about La Bonne just fit right into it, which meant I didn't need a lot of extra decor. We decided to plan our own wedding instead of hiring a wedding planner, so we decided that for the event, Fernando would be the primary vendor and coordinate with my other vendors. The day of, it turned out that Anthony was on point for the event, but Fernando was there for set up. I think Anthony must have figured out how to be in places at once because he was everywhere, making sure things were running smoothly. Everything looked amazing - between the floral designs we added through Pat Gibbons Floral (we connected to her through La Bonne) and the organically beautiful decor La Bonne showcases around their food, I was blown away. The staff was professional, friendly and courteous and made our big night that much more meaningful. And now for the food.... the food was incredibly good, and not just "for a wedding". I mean, seriously RIDICULOUSLY good (coming from the gal who didn't even eat that much of it!), especially given the fact that my venue has no kitchen so they finished everything in a temporary set-up. We opted to go with a buffet and everything we selected was delicious. Attended a corporate event on 6/22 at the Exploratorium. I regret not taking pictures. This was the overall experience. 1 Star for food availability. Company did not provide enough and several people never got many food options. 5 Stars for the drink setup. Many stations available with a great selection. 1 Star for food quality. Food was cold. The tator tots tasted like cardboard. The buns were cold. 4 Stars for condiment availability. Lots of stations 1 Star for food and beverage options. I'm not vegetarian but 40% of the attendees there were and they had no options and many people weren't able to eat. No coffee for dessert.Very disappointing. read more

Two thumbs up! I planned a company holiday party and I used La Bonne for the catering. Chef Christophe was so flexible and patient, and I was so happy with the results. I received so many compliments for the party food and decor, and actually, all the credit goes to the caterers. Excellent food. Excellent value for the alcohol & beverage package. Very professional staff. Extremely nice. A little bit expensive, so watch your budget and headcount carefully. But I would definitely recommend La Bonne to anyone. read more

I'm hopping on the five-star bandwagon, can you scooch over please? 2011 is the third year we've contracted caterers for onsite office holiday parties. The past two year's gave less-than-stellar results, largely from a lack of cohesion, comfortable food station arrangement and proper portioning. Add to this our very limited kitchen resources (no stove or oven). While my co-workers are a nice group of folks, they don't shy away from negative feedback -- let's just say the buzz from these parties wasn't glowing. This year, with a few more $$ in the budget, La Bonne Catering was chosen from the recommendations of our organizer. And WOW what a difference. Christophe (who IMO bears a passing resemblance to Liam Neeson) and his team took over set-up and prep like they lived at our office. Festive, functional and attractive, their creative layout allowed for a broader area for guests and minimized crowding. The kitchen was an organized beehive of activity, with grills and ovens set up. Seriously, it was like Santa's workshop (if elves had culinary degrees). And the food, amazing. All the more amazing as our employees range from the epicurean to the meat & potatoes crowd, yet every palate was delectably accommodated. Some highlights: An Asian-themed station featuring pork buns, duck wontons, shu mai. Carved-to-order roast beef with classic yet impressive mashed potatoes. And my favorite station of grilled lamb sliders with seven home-made condiments and accompaniments of truffled mac & cheese tartlets. And a dessert station with cheesecake lollipops garnering the biggest sweet raves. Equally impressive was the wait and clean-up staff -- always cordial and sweet but never intrusive. From the moment they arrived to their departure, La Bonne took care of everything, allowing all, organizers included, to relax, eat and enjoy. Even better, the professionalism and quality of the event made our staff feel valued and special. Confession time, dear yelpers--I've never worked in an office before, and I've never planned a large scale party before. All of the sudden, here I am, working the front desk in an office and bear the responsibility of the company holiday party. Uh oh. The very thought of planning an event of this magnitude was enough to give me nightmares. Venue? Funds? Food and drinks? What do you people want from me? I'm the youngest one in the office by 10+ years. We're on very different levels about what constitutes as a fun filled evening. Luckily, if there's one thing this college girl knows, it's how to party. Venue? Steinhart Aquarium in the Academy of Sciences. Funds? I've got 20k, half of which is now gone to the venue. 10k to feed my group of 60, plus a full bar? Not a problem for Christophe and La Bonne, who created an absolutely stunning event under budget. That's right, dear internets, La Bonne fed and barred up my party for less than 9k, including tip. There were three savory food stations--Dim Sum, Moroccan, and a polenta bar--then a full bar (with an amazing bartender, thank you!) and a dessert station. All set up perfectly and beautifully within the Steinhart Aquarium. The food was incredible, they were amazing to work with (I mean you, Christophe and Corrine!), and my event was flawless. But hold up. I learn a month before the event that my staff is expecting a sit down dinner, and that food stations will be a huge no-no. I frantically email Christophe, who calms my fears immediately, guaranteeing that there will be enough food to fill everyone, and that food stations will encourage mingling more than a sit down dinner. Basically, he told this girl to chill. So I crossed my fingers and... I received nothing but compliments from an otherwise generally cranky group, along with quite a few "This is the best holiday party ever!"s. My CEO even called me clever, because people did indeed mingle around the different stations. ;) I would absolutely recommend La Bonne (and did a few times during the event to other admins who were there) and will be using them again in the future for no hassle, incredibly designed, delicious catering. read more

Presentation was beautiful, their aesthetic was modern and the food was delicious. They also very creative dessert presentation which was a conversation starter. We used La Bonne Cuisine for two corporate events (one at Winery SF and one at the Maritime Museum) in a row with the same group and the results were fantastic! Not only did they make sure the look and feel was completely different, they really went above and beyond with event design. One word of advice, just let them do their thing! I trusted them to come up with a great event within our budget and they delivered beyond expectations. Christophe was great to work with and the food quality was just as great as the decor. La Bonne Cuisine did a great job with the food and flowers for our wedding. They traveled to the San Francisco Zoo and prepped everything for our party of 150 on-site. We had tastings with 3 other caterers, but we found La Bonne to provide exquisitely prepared food with a great price. As expected, the food was spectacular and plentiful. It kept our voracious families satisfied - I don't think I saw any of my in-laws crowding around the entrance to the kitchen to get first shot at the lamb skewers. The dinner included a delicious tomato mozzarella tower, and a duo of fillet mignon with salmon & sea bass casserole. They provided a pretty intense dessert buffet with creme brulee, green tea tartettes, fruit and basil chocolate cups, cappuccino croque 'en bouche, and mini apple pies. The flowers were beautiful, flowing displays of rocks, orchids, ferns and moss along our 40 person banquet tables. Our corsages & boutonnieres were made of orchids, and looked great too. The biggest difference between them and all our other catering options was their included creative decor and serving options. Just check out their station and passing tray photos; most of those come standard, seriously! Not only did everything look modern and amazing, but the food tasted good too. We got so many comments on how wonderful the food was. We were very confident in leaving the majority of the details in their hands and enjoyed our big day. I recently went to a wedding that La Bonne Cuisine catered that was absolutely lovely! For the food: They had plenty of amazing appetizers that they served very quickly after the ceremony. Servers brought around some small cups of mushroom soup, shrimp, samosas, as well as a few other things. All of them were super delish and served by the plenty so everyone was able to have their fill. The dinner that followed after was fantastic! I had some of all the main courses (prime rib, salmon and chicken) and all the sides (veggies, mashed potatoes) and licked my plate clean. Needless to say, I was extremely satisfied and still found room to enjoy two pieces of cake :) Presentation: Out of this world! They really did a wonderful job setting up the venue. The tables were set up so they were cozy and social, but there still plenty of room to get up and roam around. The table decorations were particularly cool, all beautiful and interesting. Honestly, it seemed like something out of a movie. Staff: Super super friendly and eager to help with whatever was needed. My husband and I had our wedding at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park on 9/5/2010 for 180 guests. We had interviewed the very best in caterers in the bay area and unanimously decided on La Bonne Cuisine. Why did we choose La Bonne? We chose them because of their Creativity, Flexibility, and because they were easy to work with: Creativity: Most caterers serve standard food that has no innovation. La Bonne is distinct in that they worked closely with us to select a menu that suited our foodie palettes and presented the food in a way where we could eat with our eyes. All dishes corresponded with our theme of sustainability and nature. Our tables had overflowing succulence, orchids and river rocks that flowed alongside our beautiful array of appetizers... Flexibility: We had changed our minds about certain items, and La Bonne was extremely flexible about accommodating our changes. They are patient and work with you and your budget to get the best outcome possible. Among the caterers, I would have to say that La Bonne is the best value among caterers because they go above and beyond to ensure that your event exceeds your expectations. Easy to work with: La Bonne is one-stop shop. We used La Bonne for catering, rented our tableware through them, and had Sebastian be our florist. This really saved me time in trying to find other vendors. Elaine, the catering manager, was on top of it all during the entire process. The entire team was there the day of to ensure the event was perfect. They are also particularly keen on ensuring that the couple eat during the wedding =). In addition to the Vegetarian and Seafood Stations in the aquarium, our guests were served a tower of Fresh Mozzarella and Black Olive Tapenade With Roasted Tomatoes and Marinated Cucumber in the Piazza. Our main courses included Braised Beef Short Ribs with Pan Seared Escolar served with polenta and market vegetables. The vegetarian entree was an exquisite Roasted Vegetable Tower, crumbled tofu layered with eggplant, zucchini and tomatoes . The dessert station had delectable miniature goodies like the crème brulee. Overall, our guests had responded that it was THE BEST wedding they had ever been to...for the food and the ambiance. La Bonne played an integral role in making this possible. We were lucky enough to have La Bonne Cuisine cater our wedding and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are both kind, compassionate people and talented, passionate artists. Here are some reasons for this sentiment: 1) The food ... was ... perfect. They served seventy people a four-course meal I could not have cooked for seven. Perfectly timed, perfectly prepared, perfectly presented. Gourmet in every way. 2) Their presentation was absolutely stunning. When we walked into the reception, we were both speechless. It surpassed every expectation we had and believe you me, we had a few expectations. Every detail was set with meticulous care. 3) The service was flawless. Every staff member behaved like the cast of a fine restaurant, with impeccable class and style. They went out of their way to take care of older and pregnant guests, without us asking. They accommodated our rowdier guests who demanded a bit more drink than others. And, they did it all with a smile. 4) The tasting as a blast. They were both professional and encouraging. After meeting with them, we walked away feeling very excited and much more at ease. The wine they served probably helped a bit, too. 5) They did not require us to pay for a tasting. Although I understand the need to protect oneself from people who might take advantage of a free meal, the leap of faith we were asked to make when hiring a caterer really helped us appreciate some trust on their part. 6) They were available throughout the planning. Although they were clearly busy throughout the summer, they always answered our calls and emails - even ones that were probably a bit neurotic in retrospect. 7) The are reasonably priced. We shopped around quite a bit and they were not the cheapest caterer but they were definitely not the most expensive. Their pricing made us feel like we were getting a great deal and they really worked with us to find a budget that we could afford. If you're struggling to plan your wedding like we were, rest assured these guys will take GREAT care of you. We were so lucky to find La Bonne Cuisine for our wedding. La Bonne is a small, french, family-owned catering company. Their head chef, Christophe, is a delight, as is their florist, Sebastien. We used Sebastien for our flowers and decorations. It was an absolute pleasure to work with La Bonne every step of the way. Their food was outstanding (you gotta hand it to the French), they were flexible and worked incredibly well with the site, our cake baker, and our bartenders. We had a buffet-style dinner that consisted of beef and salmon (as well as a vegetarian option for our handful of veggie guests), plus some delicous side dishes including a tricolor organic tomato salad with mozzarella, french green beans, and pearl pasta. They provided passed appetizers prior to dinner, as well as coffee service for the cake. Though we did not use La Bonne for wedding cake, this is another delicious option you can get from La Bonne (we got to try the cake filling at our initial tasting). Sebastien's flowers & design were gorgeous. I was very impressed by how seamlessly everything went . We found their prices to be quite reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food and service. read more

I was just in a wedding in San Francisco that used LBC, and it was amazing! The presentation was gorgeous, creative, professional, and classy. The service was excellent (although during the cocktail hour some servers didn't always see us sitting in the corner...); the servers all seemed friendly and happy to be there. And of course the food, arguably the most important part, was fantastic. One of the appetizers was a portobello mushroom soup that is just to die for; my friends and I each had three servings. During the plated dinner there was a starter salad that was basically a caprese salad but stacked (mozzarella, tomato, olive tapenade, and some cucumber), it was both beautiful and delicious. For dessert they had a buffet of bite-sized dessert options - the chocolate mousse cups were just perfect, and I heard it was the chef's grandma's recipe which is also just really cute. I have worked with several caterers for my profession, and this was the most impressive company I've seen. FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE!!! Christophe and his staff were amazing ! The food was great, set up was perfect. We had the event tat the Conservatory of Flowers so they had to set up an outdoor kitchen for the dining pavilion, not a problem. The staff entered and exited the room unnoticed. Our year end celebration was attended by 150 guests. We had to pre-order meals - not an issue, they worked with us on the menu selections made wine recommendations that were perfect. We wanted two signature cocktails, not a problem, told them what the team liked and they created two great cocktails. We needed tables, linens, centerpieces and a band, they took care of everything. They flowed with all the adds, changes, modifications that were made all the way up to the day of the event. I would highly recommend them. La Bonne is a one stop shop, classy service! I am not a frequent yelper, but had to come on here to say how amazing it was to work with Fernando, Amanda and Christophe for our wedding! Just got married at Chabot Space and Science Center on Sunday and from the very start they helped make the process enjoyable and smooth. My husband and I were figuring things out as we went, but they gave us great advice and guided us through the process all along the way. They were incredibly quick and responsive to our questions and emails. We only met with a couple caterers, but immediately the hospitality and professionalism at La Bonne stood out. Once we did our tasting, we were hooked! The decor surrounding the buffets and on the tables was amazing and we have already gotten a lot of compliments on the delicious food. Fernando threw in the table centerpieces at no cost, which fit perfectly with our venue. Also we were soooo thankful that the staff made sure we ate! They made special plates for us from both the passed hors d'ouevres and the buffet. We had a wonderful experience and truly got to enjoy all the details of our wedding. La Bonne catered our wedding on 10/4/08 at Sausalito Woman's Club. Having worked with dozens of caterers over the years, I can honestly say that Christophe, Sebastien, and Angela went over and above our expectations in making our wedding one of a kind - a true reflection of our hopes for the day. Typically, you get this level of service for events with hundreds of guests, but their responses and input made our 45 person event feel like their first priority (despite serving tens of thousands during the previous weekend's opening of the Academy and other larger events "bookending" our day). From our first communications they were responsive to all of our requests - from a creative menu to tracking down unique crystal and linens. It was their first time working at the site and they won over the Club's members and coordinators. On the day of the event they took charge and focused on the details that made everything flow without incident. Flawless execution of special requests (kids who don't eat food that is "mixed," vegetarians, pescaterians...even a vegan on 24 hours notice each received a five star meal). Setting the room to the last detail and exactly as we discussed during our walk through. Even sending a bottle of champagne and herb-infused water to our room while we were getting ready. Our friends and family universally commented that it was more like eating at a top restaurant with each course of the meal topping the previous (and -- as a dedicated foodie -- have to agree). The progression was excellent and the servers were absolutely first-rate anticipating our every need. Each commented that it was, far and away, the best food they'd ever had at a wedding and I honestly cannot give a single negative to any of the products or services they pulled together for the day. La Bonne Cusine catered our company's summer party, and I'm sorry to say but it was very bad. I'm not going to blame them for the menu choices as I assume that was our choice, but the burgers and hot dogs were not well cooked nor tasty. The buns were convenience-store quality (NO excuse for not having good bread in San Francisco). Tater tots were cold and very slow in coming (we had a lot of vegetarians who were waiting for them). Desert was ok I hear (I'm on a diet and had to skip it) but very late in coming. Overall I would have much preferrerd takeouts from In-n-out or even McDonald's. And I hate McDonald's. read more

La Bonne catered at our company event which had roughly 1000 people. Food choices were hot dogs, sliders, tater tot, and chicken fingers. Everything was cold, overly salty and soggy. The catering staff did not serve guests, it felt like they were avoiding eye contact with the guests because the food was so bad. Vegetarian food was very limited and mislabeled. Dessert was left unattended outdoor and birds were getting to the food. Frankly everyone in the company was surprised La Bonne has such good review on Yelp, may be they're good at high budget catering but not low budget ones. read more

The next time I need to plan a catered event, there is no question. I cannot express how amazing this caterer is -- their professionalism and mastery of their craft is impressive. I have nothing but great things to say about the level of service, the food, and the overall experience with La Bonne Cuisine. They handled two recent events for us, one very last-minute and the other was for the our wedding. On both occasions, they clearly communicated and offered nothing less than the best service I have experienced in ANY industry. The food for our wedding was EPIC; every guest that I have been in contact with immediately commented on how the food was not "wedding food". Originally, I was considering the Dunsmuir Estate for our wedding venue and La Bonne is one of their preferred caterers. We were looking for a full-service catering company with excellent food and affordable prices - La Bonne Cuisine stood out among the many companies we approached. Oscar was fantastic, prompt, organized, and extremely helpful. He found quotes for everything we asked for, sent multiple proposals, and patiently made adjustments along the way. The tasting was delicious (still dreaming about those desserts), and their location is beautiful. I went to a wedding recently at which La Bonne Cuisine was the caterer.... And the food was absolutely delicious!! The hors d'oeuvres were amazing! People actual tried to locate their conversations closer to the servers entrance so they could grab another shrimp or mushroom soup sipper! It was like we were at a Michelin star restaurant and the chef was sending out delicious little tasting teasers! When it came time for the main meal, there were two gorgeous buffet tables, constantly being replenished with fresh hot entrees and side dishes. The salmon was cooked perfectly!! There were so many options, it was hard to choose, and you didn't have to! I had prime rib, chicken, and salmon!!! (Such a fat kid when it comes to delicious food!) The attendants were incredibly nice and helpful, offering impeccable service. Everything was as beautiful as it was delightfully tasty! Several of the guests went back for seconds and some even went for thirds! The next morning the bride and groom hosted a lovely brunch to see them off to their honeymoon. La Bonne Cuisine came through again! There was even a crepe station!!! That's as awesome as it sounds! Fresh crepes made to order! They were offering ham or turkey, but when another guest requested a vegetarian crepe, they made him an amazing veggie filled treat!! I hired La Bonne Cuisine to cater a work event for 250. My budget was fairly tight, but you would never know it from the party they delivered. I met with Fernando and Christophe, and was immediately at ease, knowing that they could be trusted to do it right. Not only was the food absolute perfection, but the flowers, lighting and DJ too. They made me look good and all I did was review a few menus. Fernando did the rest. Guests were raving! I recently attended a wedding that La Bonne catered. Both the service and the food were fantastic. There was a good variety of hor d'oeuvres including delicious mushroom soup cups and shrimp skewers. They had set up a beautiful buffet for the wedding dinner featuring salmon, prime rib and roasted chicken. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and being freshly sliced by the catering staff. The staff was very helpful and attentive. La Bonne also catered a brunch the next day with a made to order crepe station and delicious spread of bagels, toppings and fruits.
