A Tavola is one of my favourite Mediterranean restaurants and certainly my favourite restaurant in Whitby. My wife and I been coming here for several years and we are always supremely satisfied with my meal. My favourite thing about A Tavola is the feature menu, which changes frequently. I'm not sure if it actually changes daily, but it's certainly never been the same on two subsequent visits. If you're not sure what to order, I've never been disappointed with the whole fish feature: always fresh, delicious and the table-side deboning is a memorable experience. Truly, all the seafood and pasta dishes at A Tavola are fantastic. So how can you go wrong in combining the two? My wife swears by the chitarra nera ($30): squid ink pasta with wild caught jumbo Gulf shrimp, wild caught jumbo sea scallops in a white wine, garlic and herb sauce. Absolutely devine! For the best value, we always try and go for dinner on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday evening when you can get any handcrafted pasta (including the above-mentioned chitarra nera, for a $10 supplement) in a prix-fixe for only $37. It includes a choice of salad or soup, your main entree and a delicious desert.

My husband and i are trying to be good xiannial surbabnites so we decided (again) stay local (or we're getting lazier lol). What a gem! You would never know or expect this exceptionally good Italian seafood resto in this suburban plaza but there you have it! I obvi didnt read the calamari descrip properly cause i expected fried calamari but i was still very satistied with their version. All i wanted to do was wipe the dish clean with my bread- which you can keep asking for btw. We were lucky enough to try 2 different fresh off the oven breads! Noms! tbh i already forgot the name of the dishes. Too bad these reviews aren't 4D so you can smell and taste it lol. So show'em my pictures and ask them- what's this? We were so wondefully satiated! I would put their food up against any downtown/uptown Italian resto fo sho! (Yea i said it! Come at me bro!) I'm ready to bring ma mama over here for next time!

Just... just fantastic. Too full to type, but wow. So we came here before I left on my European backpacking trip and I'm so glad we did. Not only is the ambiance and service incredible, but the food was fantastic. We started off with an antipasto platter of grilled vegetables, cheese and meat, as well a their sourdough bruschetta. Paired it with a wine I cannot remember (some rosé) and it was delicious. Then I ordered the lamb rack with polenta cake and green beans, with a pistachio crema. Dear god it was amazing. The lamb was delicious and the polenta cake was so soft and pillowy. However, I regret not ordering pasta as well because I tried my brothers and it was wonderful. All their pasta is home made and you can definitely tell. I can't recommend enough.

What a find off Garden St in Whitby, practically nestled in a small suburb corner plaza. The food here is consistently fresh and fantastic. I won't spoil too much (they have a spiel they like to share with new diners...) but everything is hand-made from scratch using high-quality ingredients and fresh meat and fish. I've been enough times to have almost everything on the menu and it's been excellent. I love the pesto bruschetta to start, although the salads are very good as well. It's often hard to choose entrees due to the sheer number of specials, but you can't go wrong with any of the house made pastas, or the whole fish specials. On top of the great food, the service is consistently awesome. All this comes with a price of course - they are busy! Every Friday and Saturday night sees walk ins sent away at the door. Book ahead!

Took a drive here last night with my wife for a late dinner. The location is a little tucked away, but once inside you could be anywhere but the frozen wastes of Ontario as you are welcomed warmly and seated. The decor is tasteful, soft music is playing and and there is a spotless open kitchen in the back bustling with activity. We order drinks, then go over the menus. Nothing on the menu seems to be left to chance or simply a placeholder. There is a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes, and as it turns out the list of daily specials is longer than the menu! My wife orders the octopus salad with some chickpea fritters, while I have the rice balls. The octopus was fantastic- had just a bite. Would have ordered it but wanted to save room for the pasta course. The rice balls were great too- crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. The chef send out some potato fritters as well! These had a very nice sauce with a hint of spice. Then for me it was on to the seafood ravioli. I believe they were stuffed with grouper and ricotta-what a great combination. The ravioli was accompanied with mussels and beautiful little clams all in a tomato sauce. It was mentioned that the ravioli (and indeed all the pasta) was hand-made. For our seconds, my wife and I both ordered the lamb shank- hers with mashed potato and mine with saffron rice cakes. Wow. Incredibly juicy and tender! A little orange peel grated on top gave the lamb an exquisite flavor. Feeling rather full at this stage yet remaining undaunted- my wife and I ventured into the realm of dessert. Classic tiramisu for myself and what seemed to be a lemon meringue parfait for the wife. Astonishingly we finished even these without immediately slipping into a food coma. The tiramisu was excellent- but the lemon flavor in my wife's dessert was truly stand out! The service was top notch, and the chef very clearly loves his trade. It seems like he makes a point of ensuring all his guests are happy (and well fed). This place just opened, and I think it's safe to say its a hit! Will definitely be back.

Nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario in Vineland, this storied establishment, housed in a structure dating to 1867, has become one of those places that quietly lodges itself in the memory and refuses to leave. We made the drive -- well over an hour -- for a Sunday brunch, and not for the first time. It is the kind of restaurant one finds oneself recommending without hesitation, not as a curiosity or a seasonal indulgence, but as a benchmark. The setting alone would justify the journey: a sweeping, unobstructed view of the lake from the sunroom and patio that shifts in character with the light, the season, and the mood of the sky above. On a clear day, the Toronto skyline is visible on the horizon -- an almost implausible grace note. But Lake House does not rest on its scenery. The kitchen demonstrates genuine culinary ambition with a menu that draws from Mediterranean traditions while remaining grounded in local and seasonal sensibility. The salmon crab cakes -- a pairing that sounds indulgent and delivers accordingly -- arrive with a pineapple and mango chutney and sriracha aioli that balance richness with levity. The Great Canadian Burger is a study in considered indulgence: brioche, peameal bacon, sweet bacon jam, and spiced maple aioli achieving a harmony of sweetness, heat, and savoriness that lingers well past the last bite. The service matched the occasion throughout. From the welcome at the door to our server Rhonda -- attentive, warm, and precisely calibrated in her pacing -- to the supervisor who moved quietly through the room ensuring that every table was well attended, the floor operates with the kind of seamless, unhurried care that is too often mistaken for effortlessness. It is not effortless. It is practiced and deliberate, and all the more impressive for it. Lake House Restaurant is a destination that justifies the drive, rewards the return, and -- in a dining landscape where so few establishments manage all three -- that is no small thing.

If you enjoy condiments the semolina crusted calamari ($26) comes with four dipping sauces:…read moresweet-curried aioli, sweet chili, basil pesto aioli, and sriracha aioli. It would've been nice if at least one packed a bit of heat, but they're all tame, adding flavour without overpowering the squid. Thankfully, the semolina crust was excellent - crunchy, light, and not oily at all. The portion is generous and easily shareable between two or three people. A newer addition to the menu is the short rib sandwich ($34), and it's a good one. Large chunks of tender, flavourful beef are topped with sautéed mushrooms, crispy onions, arugula, and brie. The cheese adds a creamy richness that makes the sandwich stand out. The menu notes a horseradish aioli, but any zing from it gets buried under the slightly sweet braising sauce, which was too sugary for my taste. I would've preferred it kept more savoury. The sandwich is already quite saucy, and yet more sauce arrives on the side. Good for fries if you choose to switch the salad to spuds. After hearing plenty about the Great Canadian Burger ($29), I couldn't resist splitting one, though I ultimately wish I hadn't. The short rib sandwich is better. The burger is hefty, with a thick beef patty that's overly dense and heavily mixed, giving it more of a frozen-patty texture than the crumbly tenderness of a good homemade one. The potato bun also struggled to hold up against the avalanche of toppings: grilled peameal bacon, cheddar, onion, tomato, arugula, pickle, and two sauces. I'm not sure why the kitchen insists on sweetening everything - the burger comes with caramelized onion bacon jam and a maple chipotle aioli, both quite sugary. If you enjoy sweeter savoury dishes, you'll probably like it. Otherwise, I'd skip the handhelds. On our weekday lunch visit, the restaurant was well staffed and attentive. Even though we never felt rushed, we were in and out within about an hour. If anything, the service bordered on overly attentive... during that hour we were interrupted six times by four different people checking if everything was okay. My suggestion: let the primary server handle most of the check-ins, and only have others step in if things get busy.

The carpaccio was fine, pleasant but fairly straightforward, but everything else we ordered was excellent The octopus was tender, and hearty, paired nicely with potatoes, hummus, some greens, and capers. It was well-balanced and satisfying without feeling heavy. The steak came out a perfect medium-rare and juicy. The nut topping on the fish added a really nice crunch, contrasting beautifully with the soft, tender flesh of the fish. And then there was the duck: the clear standout of the night. It was beautifully cooked and seasoned. The fat kept it incredibly juicy without feeling greasy. The charred cabbage on the side added a subtle smokiness that tied everything together perfectly. Every bite honestly made me happier and happier. Getting to the restaurant was a little confusing at first, but once you're there, it's absolutely worth it. A really enjoyable meal overall, and especially memorable for that duck dish. Definitely a place I'd return to.

I couldn't really taste much of a peppercorn flavor in the sauce though. I prefer my steak on the saltier side so I asked for some salt and they gave me a small bowl of flakey sea salt (my favourite!). Lobster roll ($48): 9/10 I've never had avocado in a lobster roll before, and the flavours & textures actually worked really well together! The lobster tasted fresh and sweet. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5…read moreAmbiance: 4/5 Food: We had our office holiday dinner here and 15 people attended. We did a set menu which had 3 courses. The first course was Labneh with bread, hummus, & beef tartare. Second course was Lamb pide & pear salad. Third course was grilled branzino, middle eastern fried chicken, black truffle rice, and thrice cooked fries. Then there was dessert which was chocolate mousse cake & baklava. Because of my many food allergies the main server for our table was very attentive & specific in asking me what I wanted as modifications. For example I got a wagyu beef pide instead of the lamb. Every dish was really delicious, presented well & quite filling. I couldn't eat all of the food. Though I tried almost everything. Service: The pacing of the dishes was quite masterful. They really paid attention to when the food was going to come out. As I mentioned above the main server was very attentive to my food allergies. I really appreciated that as some restaurants aren't as attentive. The food was served family style so everyone could take what they wanted from the serving dishes. The dishes were served in little bowls along the tables with each bowl serving about 4 people. We had asked for one long table so it was a little snug. But we made it work. Ambiance: For dinner the lighting of the space is really dim. LOL. I would have appreciated just a little bit more light. The restaurant is in an old building so to use the washroom you had to go down two flights of stairs. The dining area is small also. But it's a pretty space. As mentioned above we asked for one long table to seat 15 people. I was expecting square tables but it was a bunch of small round tables pushed together. So the tables were really crowded with food from all the dishes. But the servers made sure to take empty serving dishes away as soon as possible. The music was a little loud for me so I had to yell to be heard. The place was packed though. Everyone at our table enjoyed the food, the service & atmosphere. The restaurant is close to Roy Thompson Hall & the other theatres nearby so it's a convenient location as well. It's too bad this place is only open for dinner. I would have loved to see how they would operate a lunch time service. In any case, Byblos was amazing. I would come back here again to try other dishes! Note: Some of my pics of the main dishes didn't turn out so it's mostly desserts that are pictures
