However, two situations happened that left a bad taste in my mouth. The first occurred during one of her appointments when her father was out of town. I briefly FaceTimed him so he could see her during the visit. The dentist abruptly said, "No FaceTime," in a curt manner. I completely understand if that is the office policy, but the delivery felt rude and there was no explanation given. The second situation happened during another visit when Dr. Z told me I could not be rude to his staff. I was very confused because I had no idea what he was referring to, and I told him that I hadn't been rude. He responded with something along the lines of, "Come on, I know you were." Shortly after, a staff member came into the room and explained that they had mistaken me for a different parent. Dr. Z did apologize, and I understand that mistakes happen, but the interaction added to the overall feeling that the environment was not very warm or welcoming. I very rarely write reviews; but I am compelled to for Dr Z and A to Z dentistry. I've had the pleasure of witnessing the amazing bedside manner as my oldest son grew from a small child to a teen and as my younger children started being treated. Dr. Z is, without fail, so positive, encouraging, gentle and kind that my children (and me too!) are excited to go to the dentist each 6 months. Both of my younger kids had behaviors that impacted their teeth (ie. Thumb sucking) and he gave us advice, coached them through it, and even sent presents when they "met their goals". My daughter loved her 2nd visit. The team is so good with kids and made it fun and interactive. Checkin and checkout was efficient and we started on time. All Covid protocols were in place- spaced out seating, dividers between chairs, masks worn by all not having teeth actively cleaned and active cleaning was happening to sterilize handles, pens, seats etc. Easy to find and ample parking. When we arrived, we were greeted at the door by an employee to take our temperature. Once inside we were directed to a hand sanitizing station. The appointment itself was quick and to the point. Updated review 2021: Dr. Z is the best pediatric dentist in Atlanta! He is just mind blowing with children with autism and children on the spectrum. He explains things in layman's terms, he's patient, and immediately addresses all questions and concerns. His staff is phenomenal and big hit with my children, especially the lady with the red hair. My son calls her a Disney princess. I have been coming here since my children were babies and Dr. Z has literally watched my children grow as I have. Dr. Z is seriously a magical kid whisperer. He and his staff make my children so comfortable and happy. I feel thankful and lucky to be able to send my kids to this office. There are TVs over every chair playing kids movies and they give each child a pair of (sanitized) sunglasses to wear so they can watch movies comfortably while they get their teeth cleaned. Afterwards they let each child pick a toy from the toy wall. Not only is it great dentistry it's really nice that my kids are not afraid to go to the dentist at all like I was when I was a kid. I wish our family experience was as pleasant as many of the other reviews. Dr. Z has absolutely the worst bedside manner that I've ever seen. My wife and I took immediate notice of his tone with our child and thought it was completely unwarranted. Now the staff, they were quite nice and helpful but not enough to offset the Doctor's lack of bedside manner. Perhaps we caught him on a bad day and I know it happens, but we asked around and heard many of the same experiences from two other parents in our circle. My children used to go here years ago and unfortunately due to finances and the pandemic they fell behind with their dental treatment. Finally we're able to get them caught up and they refused to see my kids because they implemented a system that permanently deactivated patients who aren't up to date. When i asked for further explanation from the manager wouldn't even come to the phone to talk to me, and then receptionist just kept reading her script and telling me there's nothing she can do. We always feel rushed. The doctor is always running between multiple patients. His communication style makes it really hard to talk to him. I feel he was mocking me at times, and he can get very defensive. He was not patient with my kid. For example he would say "Stop making noises! I'm not even doing anything!" He needs to let the kid "make noises" (in fact she was trying to say that there was snot in her nose and that her lip felt heavy). He should've stopped and try to listen to her; instead he kept saying "I'm not hurting her" (nobody said he was). A kid doesn't have to hurt to get upset. He didn't stay long enough after a procedure for us to calm down and ask questions. The nurses and the front desk people are great though. But they don't make up for the terrible interactions we've had with the doctor during the last two visits. We will not be going back. read more

My family was visiting from overseas. As tourists, they had an "emergency" insurance that in reality was not worth at all. My 7 year old niece, Isi started complaining about a pain in her gum. 3 months before she had been at her regular check-up in her country with her dentist. She had a huge abscess. I don't have small children, so I didn't know were to take her. After doing a quick search on Yelp, I remembered driving by A toZ. I looked at them and based on the reviews I prayed that they were as good and affordable as they seemed I called A to Z to make an appointment. Since the second the front desk lady picked up, I knew I had not made a mistake. They were very accommodating and got us an appointment almost immediately. As soon as we got there everyone was very nice, but specially very nice to Isi, who is just learning English and didn't feel to comfortable with the idea of seeing another dentist. Immediately they got her X-rays and Dr. Z won her heart by speaking Spanish to her and making her feel comfortable. He is such a nice, charismatic and genuine guy! (And very easy on the eye too!). He diagnosed a cavity and a big infection. An extraction was imperative. Got her on antibiotics and scheduled her for extraction 5 days after. He was very detailed on what needed to be done and why. No gimmicks. And the estimate was very reasonable. Loved the "special" codes used in front of the kids so they don't have a traumatic experience!!! The day of the "wiggling" Isa was very relaxed. The entire procedure didn't took more than an hour. She came out smiling. Not a tear was shed. And she keeps telling everyone that Dr. Z didn't want to take out her molar, but when he "wiggled it", it was so sick, that it fell off. Never knew that there was anesthesia involved. He is sooo professional! I am blessed that I found him. Dr. Z has two new fans (Isi and her sister Gaby) who refuse now to go to their regular dentist in their country! I only wish he could take care of my 47 year-old husband! read more

I have been bringing my kids to Dr. Z for four years and we always have a great experience. We have not had to wait long to be seen, staff is friendly and efficient, and Dr. Z is always so supportive of the kids and the parents. Both of my kids have two baby teeth that fused together, and my daughter is missing some adult teeth, and he has been gentle in making sure we just keep an eye on things until we see what may need to be done in the future with orthodontics, if anything at all. He communicates what he sees in a very kind and supportive way. This practice is super out of the way for us to get to, but it is worth the drive me for me. I am sad to say we had a very unpleasant experience after visiting today and do not recommend this practice to anyone any longer. I was very surprised by the behavior I experienced by both a staff member 6 months ago and now by Dr. Z during our visit today. I have taken my daughter here for 3 years now since she was 3 years old and always had a very positive experience until recently. A staff member 6 months ago became defensive, rude, cut me off and over explained herself when I simple asked a question. Dr. Z became very rude, cut me off, became defensive and over explained himself when I simply was surprised when he told me my daughter had several loose baby teeth. I was shocked at how much he interrupted me when I proceeded to explain to him the situation 6 months prior. I barely started to say anything when he interrupted again. I am always very careful to be kind when asking any questions or addressing medical personnel. I was shocked at the experience today considering how positive it was prior. This place is terrible. Don't trust the other reviews. They are giving customers gift cards to submit 5 star reviews. Ive witnessed it myself. They will stand over you and ask to show them the review as well. This is manipulation at its finest. I've watched this office decline and based on other recent reviews, I'm not the only one feeling this way. DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN HERE. They used to start appointments on time but now they're always about 30 minutes late. RIDICULOUS. They will take you to the back quickly, but then you're sitting in a room for a very long time because they overbook the doctor. He is always rushing and runs from room to room literally. Poor guy. Service has tremendously declined and they have turned into another money hungry office. They don't care about your time and don't spend enough time with each child to understand their dental health. Also, they have a lot of new ppl and assistants that haven't been in the field long and seems to not know what they're doing. They're not confident at all. This is not safe at all and do not put parents at ease. They can't be trusted. The new manager is extremely rude to parents and do not value long time clients. They have this new policy where they ban your kids if you miss 2 appts. Even if you call in advance to inform them. They also don't care about emergency situations like if you get in a car accident on the way to the office or if you have COVID. The manager told me that I should still bring my kids even though they were having COVID symptoms. She said she didn't care and they need to meet their appt time. This is DISGUSTING and very disappointing and a safety issue. It is not that serious to bring contagious and sick children into the office. At this point, I wonder if it's discrimination. A to Z Dentistry is a nice facility but BEWARE. My son was going to A to Z for 3 years. Dr. Z pretends to be nice and pretends to care about his patients, but he doesn't. The staff in the front office are also extremely rude. Every time I call about an appointment they have horrible attitudes. I had 3 appointments scheduled for this year, 1 of which was rescheduled by Dr. Z himself due to a family emergency. I was running only 10 minutes late to my appointments. BOTH TIMES I called in advance to let them know. I wasn't a No Show or anything like that and I get a call from his rude staff that Dr. Z wants my son to see a different dentist. Which shows how much he really cares about his patients. Both appointments were in the morning during rush hour and any parent knows that so many things can go on with a child when you're trying to get out of the house that can cause you to be a few minutes late. The people here aren't kind or understanding at all. I DO NOT recommend this dentist. If I could leave 0 stars I would. I've never felt compelled to leave a review especially a bad review but I am beyond saddened and upset by what this office did. I called with more than 48hrs notice to ask what to do because my 2 yr old was having a mild runny nose and They told me NOT to bring my 2 yr old. Makes perfect sense! Happened again and they said again stay home and reschedule. Keep in mind my older kids go to in person school and they get sick but recover within couple of days but my 2yr old has no immunity and it takes her week to ten days to recover. 2 days before her 3 rd appt they canceled saying Dr Z made the decision not to see my child because I have missed the last 2 appts. I had to remind them I didn't miss I had to reschedule after your office told me to and I respected and appreciated the abundance of caution. It would be weeks later that they'd fit me in but I was fine to wait as he is also dentist for my 2 older kids whose appointments I've made and kept and been on time! They didn't care about that at all and decided he decided he will no longer see my youngest. We moved here in July and it's now October and Dr Z thinks that the fact that those 3 months I've had to reschedule 2 times because of a legitimately sick baby is reason enough to not see a new patient, whose sisters are already his patients then he nor his business deserve our patronage. I take my commitment to an appointment seriously, always have so this type of lack of empathy really highlight the type of leadership since the buck stops with Dr Z who made the decision to not see his new patient and didn't even take the time to call or speak to me. read more

My daughter had to be go under anesthesia for her fillings and they made the procedure so comfortable for myself and my child. I loved that she got to wake up in mommy's arms under a blanket. Added bonus that there was a call later that afternoon to check on her. She was actually excited to return for her follow up visit. I've brought my daughter here twice so far- she's 2 years old. I am very impressed with how well everyone that works there interacts with the little ones! It seems as though there was a lot of thought put into the environment, very welcoming for kids of all ages. I can't remember 100% of the first visit wait time, but I do believe the wait can be longer than expected. I tend to arrive 15-20 minutes early but still end up waiting a while, even see people who come in after be get taken back first. Let me first say that I LOVE this practice. You will not find a better pediatric dental practice in Atlanta - and you will have an amazing experience interacting with everyone here, from the receptionist to the dental hygienists to the amazing Dr. Z himself. I found Dr. Z a few years ago as I was looking for a dentist who was familiar in working with special needs children. I have a now eight and-a-half year old son who is on the autism spectrum and is incredibly anxious during dental appointments. Dr. Z and his staff are incredibly compassionate and caring and have always gone out of their way to think creatively in how to get x-rays, provide his dental cleanings, as well as in repairing his teeth. In the last few months, my son had a piece of his tooth break (due to a cavity) and Dr. Z recommended a lap to lap procedure, which allows an anxious child to sit more comfortably between the dentist and a parent. Dr. Z had given my son a special stuffed gorilla to hold during the procedure, and quickly numbed him so that he could repair the tooth. A few years ago, we needed IV sedation to repair a few of my son's teeth and Dr. Z and his team made (what I thought would be a very traumatic experience) significantly less so. I had thought IV sedation would be required this time, but Dr. Z explained that with the lap to lap approach, he could fix my son's tooth in the same amount of time that it would take to even start an IV. While Dr. Z said he was happy to offer either IV sedation or the lap to lap approach, he advised that the latter required my participation in helping to hold my son (and comfort him during the procedure), and I needed to feel comfortable with this decision. Needless to say, the lap to lap approach was a success, and my son was able to have his tooth repaired quickly and painlessly. Dr. Z and his entire team praised my son for doing such an amazing job - and gave him the stuffed gorilla to take home (which he loves!). I know this review is a bit lengthy but I want to add one more comment: if you are a parent of a special needs child, you know how difficult it can be in finding a provider who "gets" your child, and can positively handle some of the maladaptive behaviors that your child may use. Particularly for parents of special needs kids, you can experience incredible stress watching your child's anxiety or behaviors influence a provider's care - and it makes medical and dental appointments anxiety producing for everyone involved. That is why I love this practice so much - Dr. Z is such a kind, compassionate and energetic person, who will treat your child like they are the most special child while in his care. His entire staff does the same. And if they can work this well with special needs children, you know that they will be just as amazing with all kids. I'm so glad I chose this office as my children's pediatric dentist. The staff is so warm and welcoming. From the moment we walked in the door it had a nice vibe from the decor to the tablets on the wall for the kids to play on. I loved that they let me go to the back with them when it was their turn to be seen. ( I have been to other dentist offices where they frowned upon letting me go back with my children, they said it was so they kids won't be scared....needless to say that was the first and last time I went to that particular office) At A to Z they have these cute sunglasses for the kids to wear, and tv's in the ceiling. We really scrutinized and took time finding a good Pediatric Dentist and not only relied on reviews but recommendations. We decided not to write this review till our second visit and honestly once again we were not disappointed. I have yet to meet a Pediatric Dentist or Doctor for that matter that has the patience and devotion to his patients then Dr. Z. He always makes sure that you leave his office with no unasked questions. Not only does he do a great job but it's how he does it as well. The receptionist seems happy to be there and was pleasant and friendly when I called to schedule our appointment and in person for our visit. Our hygienist (Maxine) made my nervous daughter comfortable and was very patient. The other hygienists around were very friendly too. Everyone seems happy to be there.
