Posting this as a public service notice, mainly for people who live in the tri-state area. I had replaced the roof on my house 6 years ago and used A-Top roofing. They came highly recommended and the owner Andy and I hit it off. The snowstorms we've had this winter were relentless and the freezing temps prolonged. As a result, I have had an issue with freeze/thaw in a valley on my roof which caused melting water to get under the shingles and into my house. This is not uncommon. I called A-Top to address the problem and learned that A-Top had sold out to a Private Equity firm (Alpine Investors). Alpine Investors launched a National Residential Home Improvement platform called "Vertex" focusing on roofing and exterior services. The Vertex Service partners joined Bachman Roofing under their umbrella. Not exactly sure of the corporate structure. My call to A-Top went to a call center for Bachman located in Bensalem PA. The gentleman I spoke with informed me of the changes to A-Top but assured me all of the A-Top people were still on board. He sent a sale associate to my home. Seemed like a nice guy. He sent up a drone. Took photos of my roof and then discussed repair work. Basically, I need a rubber membrane tone installed below my shingles covering a larger swath of my roof. I figured this would run about $2-3 thousand (I'm a CPA and 62 years old.). His estimate was $8500. I explained that I would look elsewhere if he couldn't meet me somewhere in the middle. He went out to his truck, spent 30 minutes on the phone with his supervisor, then came back to me and said the work will be covered under my warranty with A-Top. Fantastic! Two days passed and I didn't hear from anyone regarding scheduling the work, so I called the salesperson in PA to follow-up. The salesperson tells me there's no way they will cover this repair and that the person who came to my house (and spent two hours assessing the issue) may have spoken out of turn. He would follow up and get back to me. I receive and estimate via email for a NEW ROOF in the mail. There were three tiers of service, each with a different warranty length. The lowest tier starts at $70,000!!!!' I paid $21,000 for my entire roof with A-Top. I called them back and they said costs have increased, blah, blah, blah. I reached out to a couple of other roofers with whom I had quotes on my original job, and they both knew of Bachman's sales tactics. Said people were getting ripped off left and right if they didn't do their homework. Then I used Google Gemini to do a little research and confirmed my experience was not unique. In conclusion, I would not recommend A-Top, Bachman, or any company that falls under the Vertex umbrella. read more

DISASTEROUS EXPERIENCE JEOPARDIZING INTEGRITY AND SAFETY OF MY HOME!!! In Sept 2025 I had new gutters installed by another company (THANK GOD). A-Top's estimate at the time was $7000. More than 2X what I paid for the same gutter installation. Anyway, when the old gutters came off there were issues from the roofing replacement performed by A-Top in 2017. Since 9/26/25 (9 weeks) I have been battling A-Top about the issues revealed. Of course they claim their work is not the problem. Apparently "Art K" (who also left a negative review), and I, must have had the same transient workers. Also with an inspection from the roadway! My fascia board in the front of my home is rotted beyond rot, drip edge installed incorrectly, not compensating for how the addition joins the main home. They just installed it haphazardly without any regard for the ramifications of it. Had A-Top did an inspection in 2017 these would have been caught. On 2 occasions a work crew was scheduled to come out to my house only to have been cancelled. Instead 2 more inspections from 2 separate A-Top employees. I had already had 2 previous inspections by A-top employees before work was scheduled. Ironically A-Top has performed 4 inspections on my home and yet in 2017 not 1 inspection for the roof replacement was performed by A-Top, where these issues would have been addressed then not 8 years later. I had coordinated with A-Top to have my new gutters removed on 11/3/25, since a scheduled crew was finally coming on 11/4/25. An hour after my gutters were down A-Top emailed that "gutter removal was not necessary and a crew was not coming the next day". Atim Muhammad (A- Top's General Manager) and a technician came on Nov 4th, removed all the wrap on my fascia boards to inspect a 3rd time. Atim scheduled a crew for Nov 7th only to have that appointment turn into inspection #4. I had 2 independent roofing companies inspect and they both concurred that A-Top dropped the ball in 2017! When I confronted Atim with their findings, he commented "they are biased, they only want the work". So I had a home inspector to my home. Atim had graciously offered me "complimentary services" to rectify some issues. I appreciated the offer and asked for them in writing. I have never received them. Instead, the only proposal Atim sent me 3 weeks later, was for me to pay $6000 for work he deems necessary. No mention of the "complimentary services" previously offered. My home inspection report DOES NOT recommend the work that A-Top wants to charge me for. 9 weeks later, throughout 6 rain storms and high wind conditions my home has no gutters, unwrapped fascia boards, faulty installed drip edge causing water infiltration and a damaged new gutter from laying in my yard for 3 weeks. Of course A-Top will not take responsibility for the damaged gutter I removed for them to do scheduled work. Instead he offered to charge me $650 for a new gutter. A-Top just notified me today that they are walking away from this situation after 9 weeks of dragging their feet. Even though we had an arbitrary date of 11/29/25 for work to be agreed upon to be performed. Apparently since my escalated approach to getting this situation rectified was threatening, all proposals are off the table. Not that the "complimentary services" were ever considered in Atim's proposal. Someone was to reach out to me about this escalated situation. No one has. ****This is Atim and A-Top's way of fulfilling their pledge... "We are committed to resolving this matter professionally and respectfully". Walking away from this issue by no means shows any type of "PROFESSIONALISM OR RESPECT"!!! A-Top is some how feeling amazingly comfortable leaving my home in the condition it is now in!! Cold weather and snow is predicted for next week. I never would've imagined in September that fixing my roofing issues by an "award winning roofing company" (GAF MASTER ELITE CERTIFIED) would last into December. This is an atrocity!! And this is their idea of "our commitment to supporting you as a valued, long‑standing customer of A‑Top Roofing and Construction"?? **Note here...Atim's proposal included me having to take down my previous negative review from Nov 6th. A- Top has been recently acquired by Bachman Roofing PA. This is the reason why customer service and has gone down, too many levels to go through with no response. I may have had an issue in the past with A-Top, but when Andy was at the helm, at least he had INTEGRITY and worked to resolve issues with his customers not leave them out in the cold!! Bachman Roofing and this "new" staff have no concept of customer service or the definition of integrity. Do yourself a HUGE favor and Google Bachman Roofing BBB complaints..... No stars!! but forced to put 1 in order to post review I agree with Art K's review to a tee!! A-Top installed new windows in my home in 2022. I didn't submit a review at the time out of respect for the owner, my friend Andy. The work was unsupervised and done by transient workers who are careless and, in a hurry, and prone to errors. They cut all the nail flangers off of my new windows and did not install the window jambs. My windows were hung to the interior wall instead of the exterior. Kenny had a lot of excuses leaving me to argue with Kenny for 2 days that the windows were not right until he admitted I was right. A Top rectified the problem, but I had to wait a year for the new windows to come in and be installed. I'm writing a review now because I just found out that A Top screwed up my roof replacement in 2017!! Had I known this in 2022 I NEVER would have had them install my windows!! He was referred by my sister who also lives in Freehold as someone reliable who replaced her roof the year prior. We contracted with A-Top Roofing and they completed the entire project in one day! A-Top just installed a new roof for me in June and they did a fantastic job. The price was great! They did everything they said theyy would. Some material showed up the day before starting the roof. On the scheduled day the dumpster came at 7AM. The team came 8am to start and by 4pm the were pretty much done and were cleaning up. Everything turned out fantastic, i couldn't be happier read more

BEWARE Don't trust A-Top or GAF. their warranties are absolutely worthless. They will deny and all valid claims. A-Top's workmanship and and supervision is from hunger. The work is unsupervised and done by transient workers who are careless and in a hurry and prone to errors. When a leak comes up they deny all responsibility and seek to charge you for repairs that encompass other areas than the leak problem , covering up their poor installation when the owner shows up he examines the roof from the roadway never stepping on the roof itself as is his custom even when the original was being done. After being examined by more experienced roofers I was told the shingles were placed erroneously and improper nailing. Quality of work very poor. read more

I used A-top to replace my 16 foot columns and handrails on my entrance way. I couldn't be more pleased. The installers did a tremendous job, being careful with each cut, etc. A-Top was very responsive. I had contacted Ace Aluminum in Manalapan twice and they stood me up twice as I waited for estimates. I then turned to A-Top and I know I made the right choice. I highly highly recommend them. This was a custom project in the middle of the pandemic. This was the first time I used A-Top and will use them again in the future. Kenny did a great job explaining what our options were, was very responsive to my questions, and as noted, the installation team with Tim executed to perfection. In the 15 years since A-Top installed my roof ,they had to come out 3 times to fix the area where the shingles were sliding off my roof ( Ranch style house).Apparently the compressor was set too high and the nails blew right through the shingles during installation. This was the same area where one of the roofers fell through my ceiling as it was a total tear (New plywood installed) .As a result , I now have 3 unsightly patches on my roof. Update info (12/29/2012) I thoroughly re-read the contract I signed to do the roof 7 years ago. There's nothing mentioned that the warranty would be voided if anything was done to cover an open gap to prevent water leaking down to the house due to A-Top's poor and careless workmanship. All in all, I am still legally under 10 year labor warranty under the contract agreements. Besides, I had no argument to pay for the damage repair work cost caused by attic fan's aged rim. However, Andrew was not only tried to avoid making appointment to come look the damage in the first place, but he was using childish pouting behavior due to my remark of their careless workmanship and threatening me if I want to get his estimate for the repair work. It's been three days and I've not received his estimate on the repairs via email as he claimed. I am pretty sure he will send out estimate in no time to any money making job of new customer. So, just pray those jobs they did for you would not ever go wrong like it did to mine since they are good until something goes wrong. I have had many roofer companies came and gave me their opinions and estimates on repairing the bad job A-Top did 7 years ago during the past several weeks. I told them the leaking problems of the roof, they all told me that A-Top should be responsible for the leaks from Chimney and should repair it for free under the contract of their 10-year-labor warranty agreement. One company even told me that they had been repaired many roof jobs from A-Top's cut corner bad installation resulting pre-mature leaking. By the way, Andrew never sent me the repair estimate email that he told me he would be sending. His dishonest, cut corner business practice put A-Top in an unreliable, untrustworthy company category. I want to warn anyone who is looking for a good company to do work on their home, STAY AWAY from A-Top roofing & construction. Although they have done many works in Marlboro, Manalapan areas, their sloppy cut-corner workmanship will show later soon and they will deny their responsibility to honor their warranty agreement as they did to me. Scheduled to meet with a representative today (6/8/18) to look at leaking garage roof and small auxiliary roof which I explained, in detail complete with measurements when I made the appointment. Confirmed the 7:00 - 9:00 am appointment yesterday (Tues. 6/7/18). NO SHOW, NOT EVEN A COURTESY CALL OR APOL0GY FOR WAISTING HOURS OF MY TIME WAITING FOR THEM, they knew my phone number to confirm the appointment. Highly unprofessional and couldn't be bothered...we wanted an estimate on a higher end designer roof. They sent out one of their guys to survey the property and then would come back two days later for a review of estimate. Got a call the day before they were to come back out and Dan said the owner didn't want to waste his time, did I know how expensive the roof would be???!!! Like I didn't already know what I was looking for, I said what ballpark are we in- he then proceeded to pull some random number out of the air by saying they did another job similar and it was over 70k. It was clear that they didn't want the job or didn't need the job but I think people should be careful because their quote was 30k + above 3 other reputable roofers. I asked him what a normal timberline HDZ roof would come in at and he arbitrarily pulled another number from out of the sky- still 15k over other roofers. Lazy owner, unprofessional estimater...all around mess. Simply the BEST! I have been dealing with A-Top for nearly 20 years -- for home construction improvements, a large deck, replacement of gutters, and the occasional roof shingle replacement. They have always performed to my complete satisfaction. Well, after 22 years, it was time for a new roof. Every step of the entire process from getting a quote, till final inspection and follow-up was nothing less than perfect! AND... their clean-up was beyond better than expected! They used top of the line materials, and I could see (I understand more than a little about roofing) their workmanship was first class. Throughout, I was kept well-informed of next steps, estimated time to completion, any issues that arose (I needed two sheets of roof-deck (plywood) replaced, and was visited each morning (I have a very large roof, so job took 2 and half days), by both the roofing foreman and the crew chief. Their workers were courteous, extremely respectful of property and landscaping, and meticulous about cleaning up after the work was done. I wouldn't even think about contracting with any other firm! Although I cannot speak for the actual quality of their WORK since we canceled our contract before the job was ever begun, I can confidently say this is one of the worst run companies with the poorest customer service and lack of ANY accountability that I have ever dealt with. My mother needed a new roof put on and called A-Top for an estimate, to which I agreed to pay for. The contract stated that there would be an initial $500 deposit/charge taken, with the remainder of the balance (approximately $5,000 in our case) to be charged AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF WORK HAD BEGUN. On 5/29, the $500 deposit was charged to my card ALONG WITH the $5,000 that was explicitly stated IN WRITING in our contract that it would NOT be charged until work had begun. I noticed this less than 48 hours of the charge hitting, because numerous business related charges I attempted to make got declined due to a security hold on the card, charges which were time sensitive and COST ME a large amount of money. Understandably angry at this point, I re-read the contract to confirm this was an error, and upon doing so, I called A-Top and asked for the owner, Andrew. The MINUTE I got him on the phone, he began to raise his voice when I mentioned the charge and tell me that "we already made YOU aware of this error and are taking that off for now" in a VERY rude manner. I firmly corrected him and told him that NOBODY had been in touch with myself or my mother and that *I* noticed the charge on my card and this was the first time anyone had told THEM about it, at which point he changed his tone and told me it was being reversed and put back on the card. I then explained to him that his little 'clerical error' had cost me a great deal of money, to which he replied "oh give me a break, it's not my problem your business card has a $5,000 limit" (the cards limit is far beyond that, but it would appear Andrew has no knowledge of card companies placing fraud holds when they see 2 suspicious simultaneous charges from new vendors). He then told me to 'send him proof' of the charges that didn't go through, etc, to which I AGAIN explained to him card statements DO NOT SHOW (temporary charges that are later declined only show for about 24 hours and then there is no trace of them on the statement, as opposed to a charge that goes through and is then refunded). The date that the work was tentatively scheduled to begin in late July then came and passed, and A-Top still had our $500 deposit, although my mother and I were already shopping other contractors and had no plans to continue with A-Top. Finally in early September I received an email from Andrew's wife stating that they would not be fulfilling the contract and would be refunding us the $500 deposit, MINUS a $75 'processing fee' (mind you, THEY voided the contract as soon as they charged my card the $5k 2 months early) as well as minus the permit fee from Howell which they CLAIMED was $193. I immediately called Howell township and learned that the permit had ACTUALLY cost $156, so here was ANOTHER example of their lying fraudulent ways, trying to nickel and dime a measly $37. I emailed Andrew's wife back and told her that they would not be pocketing the extra $37, nor would I be paying any processing fee because of THEIR incompetence and breach of contract. His wife half heartedly apologized for the "error" with the Howell charge (funny, this company sure makes a LOT of billing errors huh?) and mailed us our money back but attempted to not refund the $75 processing fee (the $156 for the Howell permit is fully transferable, so we simply moved that over to our new contractors who have brains and integrity). When I called Andrew to demand the $75 be returned as well or that I would let everyone know how they conduct business, he shouted "ARE YOU THREATENING ME" like a petulant child about 15 times, and then told me to not contact them again and hung up on me. What a pleasant, mature adult; exactly the type of person I want to do business with... In summation, I cannot possibly personally fathom that a company with as little integrity, accountability and class as I encountered could even be in business for 5 years let alone 30, but perhaps this review and others on here will allow people will seek out better honest alternatives to these frauds after reading the truth about how they do business. read more
