My great grandfather purchased a small wooden children's rocking chair sometime in the 1920s. It was sat in by my grandfather, followed by my mother, then me, and now 90 years later, my children. So when a house guest's unbridled toddler stood on the chair's seat caning and busted a massive hole it it, I was of course heartbroken! I found A Wicker Workshop online, and was impressed by their reviews, proven history and photos of their repair work and craftsmanship. I emailed them photos of the damage, and an estimate was promptly returned. I had the choice of using cheaper prefab sheet cane, or slightly more expensive custom caning, hand-woven and threaded through the frame to match the original fabrication method. I opted for the latter to maintain the integrity of the antique. Once they confirmed that they could match the caning pattern, hole size and stain, I brought in my chair for repair. The work was completed faster than the estimated time frame, and as promised, the new caning looks exactly like the original! I couldn't be happier with their professionalism, and now my kids can resume sitting in the children's family rocker which has been enjoyed now for 4 generations and counting. read more

I first used a wicker workshop over 25 years ago. They were great. My recent experience was less than stellar. I dropped two pieces of furniture off in July or august. After a month I called and asked about them. They were ready. I went over there and they pulled the dusty furniture from an attic space. They had clearly been finished for a while but I hadn't received a call. One piece was repaired with the correct caning and the other was done in a horrendous orange color. They are a set. They had no answer to on why they used the orange cane. They promised me they would fix it and deliver them to me within the week. Fast forward another month at least. No call. I called and after a search they found them and called me back and subsequently delivered them. The cane is fine on both, but look at how they abused my grandmother's 100 year old walnut chair. I have nothing but praises for A Wicker Workshop and the restoration they performed to my damaged (vintage) ottoman. The rattan ottoman had accidentally taken a hit while moving heavy furniture, leaving a large hole in a portion of the cage; add to that it was acquired in already vintage condition and as such, there were a few other areas without ribs, much of the wrapping was either missing or had come loose, and the overall surface was somewhat dull and brittle. When dropping off the piece I expressed to the owner, Shoshana, that my hopes were that it could: 1) be restored while still preserving its weathered quality (i.e. the natural patina that developed over its 30+ year life), and 2) be repaired in a way that the added/new portions closely matched the aged character of the original as much as possible. It seemed to be asking a lot, and I was willing to accept whatever was possible, but Shoshana reassured me that both of my requests were feasible. Additionally, I was shown some photo samples of previous restoration projects that her shop had completed, and by the end of the consultation, I felt confident that my ottoman repair was in good hands. Several weeks later, I arrived at the shop to pick up the completed piece, and to my amazement, I couldn't believe that I was looking at the same ottoman I dropped off. All of the broken areas were completely restored (I could not even tell which portions they were, as they blended so well with the original ); all of the loose or missing wrappings were completely re-wrapped and secured; the surface was lightly coated with a finish that made the piece spring back to life. And as an added touch, plastic feet were tacked on to the bottom of the legs, providing me with a smooth surface to which I could attach felt to later (for protection on my wooden floors- thank you for that!). The ottoman looked as good as new, but still retained it's patina'd/vintage quality under its lustrous shine. Needless to say, the restoration far exceeded all of my expectations (or 'hopes', rather), and I am very grateful to A Wicker Workshop for their artistry and amazingly detailed workmanship. I have an antique bathroom chair that was originally caned, but when the caning broke, my parents added a wooden seat and a pad and painted it white. I wanted to restore it to its original glory. I needed a chair seat recaned with sheet cane, I called 2 places and they quoted me 3 times the amount A Wicker Workshop quoted me. I took the chair in they said they would stain the cane to match it's current color and it would be 6 weeks before I got it back. We have known Shoshana and A Wicker Workshop for over 20+ years! Over a decade ago we had them pick up our McGuire rattan dining chairs because the finish was worn and needed repair! We arranged to have them picked up, when they were returned in a few weeks they looked "showroom new" exactly as they looked when we first purchased them! Now in Late November 2019 we again had A Wicker Workshop pick up our rattan chairs to to have the finish on them "freshened up"! I visited the workshop today to see the finished job on our McGuire chairs... They look "brand new" as they looked over 25 years ago when they were purchased. Took in our 8 wicker dining room chairs which, after 25 years, were showing a lot of wear, including a few holes in the seats and backs. But we loved those chairs and have never seen any others like them. WW removed all existing wicker, strengthened each frame to eliminate loose joints and squeaks, put on all new cane to match the existing cane weave, repainted each chair to match old color, and now they all look brand new and will easily last another 25 years. Price was even less than we paid for them when new, and now we still have the chairs we love instead of having to buy new ones. It took a while to do all the work, but given that all the work is done by hand, high quality hand labor work takes time. Owner Shos was great. Would definitely take them any wicker work you need. Look elsewhere for your wicker repair. Amateur caliber workmanship, and no business ethic. Owner said she would match a sample wicker seat I gave her and have it done in 2-3 weeks. 8 weeks later and for a higher than originally quoted price, I finally picked up my seat. It was poorly woven. The wicker she used was the wrong gauge (not even close), which was surprising as she claimed the delay was due to having to special order the correct stuff. And the seat reeked from some sticky chemical finish. Not surprisingly, she wasn't interested in making it right. read more
