Ticket checkers were cherry and it all felt like black and white movie. Stops were quick and efficient. Ride was smooth and quiet. The observation car was stunning while the light lasted and gave a good destination for twitchy legs. Snack and bar cart downstairs did us right too. Cost effective and a solid alternative to flying or driving.

Their claim to fame is that Frank King, the author of "Gasoline Alley" came from Tomah, so they have a number of his drawings and sketches, a few paintings and some artifacts (it appears you can purchase some of the advertising pillows/dolls? including the Mammy-like caricature of the character Rachel in the gift shop). There is a selection of World War 1 ephemera including a surgeon's instruments for amputations; military hats; a small barber chair with barber tools; a shoe shine chair with ladies' shoes; a small cabinet with displays of crochet, including lace; a few quilts; a small kitchen display; several dolls, a toy display, and a few JFK and Dwight Eisenhower items, including a painting of Lincoln by Eisenhower and a wooden box JFK kept on his desk to give candy to kids. (Possibly a Norman Rockwell JFK portrait, but it might be a print.) In addition, there are a few Native American artifacts, including baskets from 1940-2000; a pair of moccasins found in a cranberry bog; and a large collection of arrowheads. No attendant was available on site until the train came. Small bathrooms available, which was surprising for such a little building. Parking available. Lots of natural light! Our daughter enjoyed looking around and out of the windows at the tracks while we waited for the train, which was only two minutes behind. This station supports the Borealis train and the Empire Builder train (daily) that makes easy connections to Milwaukee, Chicago and the Twin Cities (Empire builder offers a long route out west if you want an adventure). These can be booked online/the app and have the option of earning points. I love Amtrak and this was a great experience! Lovely train staff and a smooth ride. Can't wait to use it more this summer.

This is the tiniest airport I've been through in a long while. I like it…read more For starters, the free wifi really works. Although not open for the early morning flights, the gift shop across from the check-in counters looks well-stocked, and the sole restaurant, upstairs, has a basic menu. Both are outside security, but the security line moves quickly. The rental car counters are just across from the gate and a very short walk from baggage claim. If you're meeting someone at this airport, there is no chance you won't find them. Everything, except for the restaurant, is on one level. Once through security, there's a small snack store in the gate area with some pretty awesome staff. The woman who poured the coffee was probably the nicest person I've ever met at an airport at that hour of the morning. It was like being with family and I've never met her. Of course, the smell of brewing coffee is like a magnet for me and one of my favorite aromas. That made it easy for me to return her friendly banter. And if you don't like the thought of walking outside and climbing the stairs to the plane, especially during bad weather, no need to worry. LSE has jet bridges.
