They quoted me about double other equivalent companies quoted me. When I pressed and showed a competitors quote, they matched the price since they were already out here. That doesn't sit right with me that a $750 job can become $400. I'm happy they matched the price and I got the job done, but always get multiple quotes. I booked online around 4pm and was able to have an appointment the following morning! The technician, Joel Hoerchner, called while on his way to our home, was prompt and super knowledgeable, courteous, and an all around great guy. Once we discussed the issues, he diagnosed and made recommendations for the fix. He did not pressure me into any choice and went above and beyond to correct the issue as well as things that had not been done properly from the initial installation. Our home is almost 3 years old and should never have had so many problems with the opener. Joel took care of everything and at a very reasonable price. We now feel secure that we won't have issues moving forward thanks to his expertise and hard work. A1 Garage communication was stellar as well. My experience with this company was extremely disappointing. If I could give a negative rating, I would. Unfortunately, even zero stars isn't an option. I had one of their technicians, Brandon Biscobing, come out to replace broken garage door springs. My car was trapped in the garage, and in the rush I failed to get competing quotes. That mistake ended up costing me dearly. The total bill came to an outrageous $2,533 for replacing the springs, along with a few brackets and cables--items that were pushed through upselling by the technician. On top of that, I was told my garage door opener was "worn out" and needed to be replaced for an additional $1,966. And no, thankfully, I did not buy the opener. What concerned me just as much as the pricing was the misleading and inaccurate information I was given. The technician told me that if the garage door motor failed, the door would come crashing down. This is false. Garage doors are supported by the spring system, not the opener. A failed opener does not cause the door to fall, and this statement appeared to be used to pressure me into replacing a functioning unit. By that point, I had done my research and realized how badly I had been overcharged. I insisted on a fully itemized invoice separating labor and materials. Here is what I was charged (see the attached picture of the invoice): 4 springs (25,000 cycles / 5-year warranty): $1,701 Labor: $575.32 Center plate: $91.82 Hinges: $27.00 7-ft cable pair: $197.54 "Shop supply fee": $140.00 For context, the springs installed were .234" wire diameter, 30" length, and 2" spring diameter. For comparison, I contacted a company that incidentally replaced the springs in 2009 (before I bought the house in 2013) and they still had all the door specifications on file. Their pricing for the same work was: Labor: $250 Springs: $288 -- one grade higher, using .283" wire diameter Hinges: $5 Bearing plate: $10 Cable pair: $50 I also priced replacement springs directly from a garage door parts supplier. Springs with larger wire diameter (.243"), making them stronger and longer-lasting than the .234" springs installed, were priced at $85 each, or $360 for four springs total. After I complained with customer service, a supervisor called and attempted to justify the pricing by claiming they are a "premium service," available 24/7, and that technicians always carry parts. He also claimed the spring pricing included labor--yet there is a separate $575 labor charge on the invoice. No one could clearly explain what the $140 shop supply fee actually covers. Between the extreme overcharging, incorrect safety claims, and questionable representations, this experience was deeply disappointing. I strongly recommend avoiding this company. Used this company in the past but most recent experience was horrible and will not use again. Door was not touching ground on ends of door. Tech said ground was uneven. I had used long spirit level and found it to be absolutely dead flat. Anyway, senior tech is there with junior tech he is training. They provide an estimate of $340 which I told them to their face was a rip-off but I was desperate to get this fixed. Estimate said quantity 2 General Service Task, despite the fact I had 1 garage door! I leave techs in the garage, but unbeknownst to them, I have a security camera mounted in the garage. Tech gets on ladder and adjusts down limiter to extreme. Garage door now goes all the way down but rail from motor to garage door is bowed upward because of the extreme force required by motor to push it down. Junior tech looks at watch and chuckles that it took 15 minutes to do all of this. Senior tech shrugs and laughs a bit. They converse that, although this will fix my problem, the motor will not survive the abuse of holding the door down and the bowed rail for very long. "This motor can't handle this..." is what was said. They open and close the door a few times and check for any loose parts.....trying to take up some time. I return to garage at 40 minutes after first arrival and they explain that everything is fixed. I question the bowed rail and they said that is the only way it can be fixed and shrug it off. $340 for 15 minutes of work (note that "Service Trip Charge" of $59 on top of this was explicitly waived). After their departure, I reviewed my camera footage and found their interaction. I immediately returned the limiter to a more reasonable spot, which caused my problem to return. But, I didn't want to have to replace a garage door opener in the near term because they didn't know what to do with my problem and solved it the only way they knew how....which they admitted to each other was not a good solution. read more

So, yeah, it's expensive to fix a garage door in 2026. Given that I just paid VW $400 for a new key FOB, I am used to the hustle. However, I think A1 is getting a bad rep for something that happens with all business. They are in the business to make money. And, from my experience, it was legit. My repair tech, Jacob couldn't have been nicer and more professional. I have a 20 year old LiftMaster that had a broken spring and some other shoddy parts we inherited when we bought the house. He walked me through everything and it was mostly in line with what I found online. I haggled down the price and they were accommodating. There is zero way I was going to try and fix this myself. I felt confident in his professionalism and never felt I was being upsold. Everyone's experience varies depending on the technician, and I was thrilled to have someone as knowledgeable as Jacob. I have to say everyone is very nice. But this company is SUPER HIGH PRICED and you get less. Like no battery back up and only 1 remote (extra one costs over $100. All others i called it includes 2). I called BlackHawk garage doors to double check their work since the tech was trying to tell us to NOT use the door we just paid to fix as our springs were bad, wanting to charge another $1,500. BlackHawk confirmed springs are going but not bad yet and ok to use the door - also noted spring replacement would only be around $400. Much more educated at BlackHawk and reliable. A spring on our garage door broke late Saturday night and I had to get my car out early Monday morning. I contacted our usual company, and they didn't get back to me. I contacted A1 on Sunday morning, and they were able to get a technician out that evening. The technician Armon was spectacular! Very knowledgeable and super friendly. He took the time to do a thorough inspection and explained everything in detail, answering all of our questions. Many of the parts on our door were over 25 years old, so it was no surprise that we needed a few things replaced. Armon has a wonderful personality. You can tell that he takes pride in his work, and in the company. We really enjoyed hearing about the history of the company and the different types of training that Armon went through. I was almost ripped off by $1600! The technician came out and did a 29 point inspection and told us it was $1600 to fix the entire motor unit that he said needed to be replaced. He did point out that as worry free club members, we would get $50 off. Luckily this didn't sound right to my husband who believed it was the sensors. Just looked up reviews because we were really blown away by the poor service we experienced in our moment of desperation. Our spring broke, locking my car in our garage, and we wanted to do minimal fixing as we know we will need to replace the entire door and opener in the next few years. While the fix was done fine, the amount of upsell and cost was outrageous ($500 for what ultimately was a $40 part). Once we realized what we were in for and who we were dealing with it was too late, so we paid to get the spring fixed. From here we will do better research and receive quotes for someplace local with and someone else who can better help us. Here is another review I just read that really is similar to my experience: Wanted a repair for a broken spring but was continually told I needed expensive parts that can be bought on Amazon, Lowe's, Homedepot for a fraction of the cost. Unable to get an estimate prior to the technician arriving so felt trapped into a sales pitch. Repair was done well but sales pitch and spare parts were a nightmare. I recommend getting a quote/estimate before-hand before you are locked in. And, don't go with this chain, over-priced company. Went out Monday morning to find the garage door wouldn't open. The spring broke. I called A1 and they came out that morning to troubleshoot. First, they send you a picture and a little intro of who is coming to your house. To me that's a solid. Technician Matthew could have fixed it the same day, but the door was so old it just made more sense to get a new one put in. On to scheduling. It was a breeze. Now on to today, A1 sent another message letting me know exactly who to expect and when. Technician Jimmy came out this time and he was timely and very professional. Also kept things tight and tidy and he cleaned up after himself well. In no time the garage door that was broke was gone and a new one was in its place. A1 was in and out with no problem! I'm hoping no one else encounters the situation I experienced. I hired A1 for a garage door tune-up. The agreed upon price was $79. I have had previous tune-ups before, so I knew what to expect. I stayed with theimI technician, good thing I did, and watched as he serviced the garage door. I don't know if he thought he'd get over on an older lady, but somehow that $79 tune-up turned into a $1200 unnecessary repair. I paid the agreed upon $79 and sent him on his way. I purposedly had another reliable company already scheduled to do a tune-up after them. I never said A1 was out, but I asked all the questions A1 told me were "necessary repairs" and the reliable company didn't bat an eye to tell me why they weren't necessary. A1 operates like a car dealership gone bad. They knew I was dealing with flood damage at the time and I absolutely trusted my tech. That's on me. We had a tiny ding on the door and one of the rollers popped off. I was told this is about a $9,000 new door kinda job. They IMMEDIATELY started offering financing. That spooked me and I asked for 24 hours. That time came up and they called me with a closer on the phone. Tried to sell me three tiers of doors higher than I thought. The best part was I got the ol' I need to talk to my manager line. The closer was back with me in 45 seconds. Must have been quite a conversation. I did trust my tech. That was on me. I eventually read the 29 point safety inspection document that showed that ALL 29 of the safety functions were now 'red' or failures. I had to learn the hard way that when the garage door breaks, this is not the place to call, unless you want to be out money. $650.00 to have put supposedly 4 rollers back on track, cut the cable and put the door down 3 feet, and told that we would need a new door. On 10/14/2022 we called A1 for an estimate on replacing our garage door and opener, they were out to our home with 2 hours. Once the door was ordered it took 7-1/2 weeks for the installation to happen. The door that was installed on 12/6/2022 was incorrect from what we ordered. This one has two window panels and we only wanted one. Now we have to wait over a month for a new panel to be made, shipped and installed. In the process of installing the garage door, the tech ran the lag bolts in with an impact driver without pre drilling a pilot hole. This split our joist in two places. Now with the cold weather upon us it has significant splits that are affecting the structural ability of the joist to hold the garage and opener up and the roof. The garage door doesn't seal at the bottom, against the slab. I mentioned this to the installer and he told me to give it time and it will expand. It hasn't and probably never will. So now we have an opening at one end of the door, that wasn't there with the old door, for little critters and water to get into the garage. I have called to speak to people at A1. The receptionist is very nice but no one with any clout is available to speak to. She mentions that she will send them a message to call me and I have also left voice messages for the installation manager. NO BODY RETURNS THE CALLS. I, in all honesty, cannot recommend this company. They have ads on TV and in ValPak that look good, but the results are very disappointing. Extremely misleading. I am so disappointed. First off, they send a picture of the lead tech is on the job with a bio. Then to my wife's surprise, two men show up at our home including someone not in the photo. We needed our coil replaced and asked for a price with an opener. They said $1296. Little did we know they claim they told us it was two charges of $1200 for a total of $2400. When I said this was never explained they just pointed to the iPad and said "well she signed twice." Is it that out of line to assume one page was the explanation for the cables and one an explanation for the opener? I had a quote from Hartland Overhead door that was significantly cheaper than then the $2400 and I would have went with them right away and sent A1 away had I know it was $1200 x 2 off the bat. You could argue we should have read all the fine print on their iPad but here is where it even gets more shady. They tried to tell us some other parts were rusted that weren't included in the $1200x2 = $2400 and that would be an additionally $700. When we said no, they all of a sudden came down to $300. One highlight is when the unknown man who was not my service tech in the email said "you come down here and disrespect me". Excuse me? You're in my home and telling me my wife was an idiot because, as you kept shoving your iPad in my face, said "well she signed twice." You can be sure I did in in fact express displeasure but never once did I raise my voice. You Mr Arizona were disrespectful throwing the iPad page in my face 6 different times. Finally - they told us a new door of the same quality was $5,000-$7,000 depending on the warranty. My other quote INCLUDED the door and they wanted an extra $5,000. SALES REPS NOT SERVICE TECHS! Scheduling was easy & communication was good. We then had a rep, Rick, come out to look at our garage opener that had opened a few times unprompted. He had few suggestions for the cause aside from maybe someone "messing with us" that has a remote and ultimately said full replacement was our best option. With garage units ranging from $800-1200, I was not interested in making that call the day he was here. Rick seemed bothered by that. He proceeded to do their multi-point inspection & put an intense urgency to replace cables (starting to fray), drums, seal & springs. Replacing all of this would cost even more than the garage unit already recommended. I felt pushed to make a decision and let him know I was going to get another bid on it, and he became immediately not friendly or helpful. Even suggesting that we should not use our garage door or it could fall on our puppy. I proceeded to call a different local company, who came out two days later. I filled them in on what was shared at our first visit, and he knew EXACTLY which company our rep was from, without me saying a thing about A1. He said it's pretty much their business model! We didn't need our unit replaced, the unit probably was synced up to a neighbor's remote and we just reprogrammed it. We did have the other company replace our seal and cables. They said drums almost NEVER need to be replaced and springs don't need to be replaced until they're broken. It also cost less than $200 for what did need replacing. I had a problem with my garage door opener. The door went down a foot and popped back up, this happened intermittently. A1 sent Rick out to fix it, he found a problem w wires that attach to the sensors and fixed it. He did a "full inspection" of the door and thought I should replace the whole thing because there was signs of aging. ($6000 or " a bit less") He was rather pushy about it despite my saying several times I had no interest in replacing the door at this time. The charge was around $220 for the service call. He said if the problem recurred to call them back at no charge. Less than 2 weeks later the problem recurred, talked to someone on phone who scheduled someone to come out ( same guy- Rick). This time he turned a knob on the garage door opener to increase the down force which seemed to solve the problem, then he told me he would check to see what the charge would be. We stood and argued about this being a no charge re-visit since he hadn't solved the problem the first time. Would not recommend working w this company. Tech put door back on track and was not level, leaving a large gap at the bottom allowing rodents to get into garage. Called to have it fixed and tech said only way to fix was an oversized seal. The seal was not the answer and has caused many problems... also looks terrible. Called again to have it looked at and the customer service rep challenged me and proceeded to hang up on me. Not sure why that individual is in customer service. Do not trust these folks with your garage door needs. They will do it wrong, cut corners, and refuse to fix it the right way. However, the tech basically said our door was a danger and we should get it completely replaced and it had all these problems. He quoted us $3400 for a new door or $1000 for repairs (which he insisted would only be a temporary fix anyway). I got two other companies to give me quotes to make sure and they both said those were outrageous prices and I only needed a few simple fixes that would cost a few hundred dollars at most. I was very happy to learn that they offered various quality springs so I wouldn't have to replace them again in a few years. Communication was great and the tech arrived on time. While here, he also recommended I replace some other door components, which I agreed too. When I went to shut the garage door after he was done, it would go all the way down and then immediately bounce back up. The tech came back in and tweaked a few adjustments on my opener which cause the door to jam and then immediately fried the motor. His oops added $800 to by bill. My unit was 7 years old and while I acknowledge it was a builder grade unit - my point is that it was working perfectly, without issue until I had A1 service my door and install new springs. In my opinion, the new unit should have been fully covered since the tech broke my old one. If the unit was too old to support the new springs, I should have been made aware of that risk. read more

Quick service call to help whe. Our door was stuck open. Turned out we had a Frankenstein door made up of parts spanning 30 years, including a motor that wasn't designed for a 2 car garage. The estimate taker was great, watched me through options, helped with interest free financing (it has caveats though!) And was clear that the wait time would be longer given supply chain in COVID times. The result was a beautiful new door and motor 6 weeks later so quiet we forget we hit the opener.
