I have gone here for about a year... nails have been decent to get me by. I recently had a dip manicure and gel pedicure there. Not even 24 hours after I was done one nail broke. I thought it's fine, it happens. Go in the next day, same lady fixes it. Now two days after the appointment 2 more nails break. I call back and they seemed to be upset with me because my nails had broke as if it were my fault for golfing... I have golfed numerous times with my nails done. I could not get them fixed nor did I, with the terrible job she had done. As for my pedicure I have had gel polish last on my toes for months and still look good! We are now talking a week and a half of my polish coming off. Needless to say, I have gotten my nails done plenty of different places and have had plenty of dip manicures, and none of them last but two days or even less than 7 days. I was a walk in appointment and asked for a mani -pedi with no polish. I don't think the nail tech said much of anything to me. The whole place was quiet which was strange to me. It was quite apparent that there is not much communication between techs and customers. I was with out a doubt the worst manicure I have ever received. My nails looked like they were done by a child. Sadly I'm writing this review because the new management raises the prices just because they are new and added more options of pedicure like the place is a spa. I have been coming here for 17 years and never had any issues . Love getting my service with Cindy. She is very profesional ! Today I came to get a mani pedicure and of course the price change and they don't give you the same service with two towels unless you buy their other pedicure service ? Horrible ! I can't get other products because I have very skin so for me to get the same service w two towels I have to paid more on top of their raised price? Too bad . I came in late yesterday morning without an appointment for a mani, pedi and eyebrow wax. At first they thought they didn't have time to do all three (understandable since I didn't have an appointment), so I opted for the pedicure and eyebrow wax. Towards the end of my pedicure, they said one of the techs could do a mani for me too. Score! Pedicure: Excellent pedicure. The technician was friendly, gentle and quick without making me feel rushed. She pulled out an ingrown nail that was killing me which was a definite plus! Manicure: The tech filed my nails so they were all the same length and shaped them beautifully. I opted for clear polish and my nails looked great at the end. Eyebrow wax: This is where this place looses a star for me. I've had them wax my brows multiple times and it's always been from a different lady. Each time has just sort of been "ehh." I find that they get a little wax-crazy and tend to go pretty thin. Much thinner than I would like, but not enough that they necessarily look bad. I'm so sorry I have to give this a one star rating. My daughter surprised me with a spa date for my birthday. She made an an appt and we arrived in good time. We were greeted and asked to select our colors, which we did. The salon has a wonderful selection of colors, easily displayed to choose from. We were seated and the work began. My tech really struggled to get a rounded/oval shape for my nails. After several tries we compromised on slightly rounded. The color was added and my nails were done. My daughters Mani is another story. Her tech added all the gel before she cut the tips down. This tech also struggled to get a rounded shape and my daughter finally gave up and accepted a square shape. They do price differently for cash vs credit, but don't post a sign letting people know. What is most disappointing is that my daughters tips didn't even last 1 week, as air bubbles developed on 4 fingers and they needed to be removed, 2 more simply came off. The polish developed bubbles and ended up having to be removed and redone. So disappointing, except for the wonderful thoightfulness of my daughter! Do not go to this nail place. I repeat DO NOT GO! I made my appointment for my nails & toes and eyebrows. I had to make several Corrections on how I want my nails done and it still wasn't a neat job. When It was time to get my eyebrows done they told me they did not feel comfortable to do my eyebrows because they have lack of experience. Yesterday I had the worst experience at the A1 Nails salon in Germantown, MD. The experience was horrible and not only are they racist, but they failed to do the basic design. The lady was very rough and had to fix the acrylic several times and still did not get it right. My skin had glue and acrylic on it and nail polish was messy. I was told that I cannot get light brown nail polish because of my dark skin color - WTW. My pedicure was half done. I talked with the male manager who failed to remedy the issue. I can not say enough wonderful things about A1 Nails and the entire staff! I've been a loyal costumer for over a year now and Nicole always "nails it" with all the designs I ask if she would do. She is hands down the best nail artist in the area who always goes above and beyond to make sure her customers are happy. The salon itself is very clean and the entire staff are very warm and welcoming! Also, you will not find another nail salon with as many amazing colors than A1! I always make sure to make an appointment, because the word is out on how amazing they are and they can get very busy. With that said, I have also seen first hand how hard they work to fit in anyone who walks-in (without an appointment) to ask to have a service done. I went in for a gel mani and regular pedi. Amy was the person who helped me with my nails and she did a great job. Every time I get a pedi, the techs are quick to grab the razor to shave off the calluses on my feet. I do not like using that because that's what causes them to get bigger, so i always ask them to use the pomace stone only. I was surprised Amy didn't go for the razor, she grabbed the pomace stone without me having to ask her. She also used oil to scrub my feet. No one has ever done that. When she did my gel mani, she was very gentile with my cuticles. I have really bad, dry cuticles and i didn't bleed or feel any discomfort. She also put on these gloves so that my hands would fry under those UV lights. Loved that! She also cleaned up my eye brows and i loved the way they came out. The owners are rude. They often cut your cuticles so far back. I'll re-start. My sister and niece were pretty loyal to this place so I decided to give it a shot. The review by Marry K. is right on target. You typically have to wait and if someone they know comes in, even without an appointment, they will take them first. Waxing - not clean. Uses same application stick for all unless you request a new one; even then that stick is hitting the wax that has been tainted by other used applicators. I was "burned" by waxing here twice (yes, I gave it many opportunitiies to redeem themselves). They made it sound like it was MY fault that I burnt. I complimented one of the manicurists once and requested her the next time; I was told she wasn't available. I asked when she would be, he said, she wouldn't to pick someone else... ??? She has gone to Harvard for nails! lol. She is a perfectionist so my nails ALWAYS look like pure perfection! The owners are always there also, Which tells me they really care about what goes on in their business. They are always super kind and gentle with my kids when I have to tug them along with me. Contrary to the one other review here, I have had good experiences getting occasional french manicure acrylic nails throughout the years. They do a good job on my nails. I dont usually go when it's busy and have had no problems walking in and getting them to spend time on my nails. Over the many years I have been a customer, I have had acrylic, silk and gel nails. I have been to Top Nails and Passion Nails and A-1 Nails has been my favorite by far. The owner (Hong?) is friendly and greets you when you walk in the front door. Since I have been a customer for many years it is welcoming when they call you by name. The whirlpool pedicure is soooooo relaxing as you sit in a highback massage chair and can control the massage with your very own remote control. All of the equipment is clean and I leave there feeling very pampered. This is the place to take my mother-in-law for a ladies day and also take my husband to get a mani-pedi. the staff is extremely rude and unfriendly! i went there about a year ago and had a bad experience, as well as a bad job done on my nails..everything was done in haste. they dont allow you to tip with your credit card if you dont have cash, you have to go NEXT DOOR to a convenient store, make a PURCHASE from that store in order to get cash back and then you will be able to leave a tip. i guess i wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and went there yesterday as i needed my nails done for an important event on short notice. I haven't had my nails done in ages (working mom of two and obsessive hand washer). I heard about Shellac and wanted to try it. As the other review stated, the staff is unfriendly. She trimmed my cuticles and made 4 (that's four) fingers bleed. Unbelievable. I know these kinds of places are 'quick and dirty' but I thought they were at the very least professional. Not this store. I noticed polish on my cuticle and she tried to convince me that it was to keep from showing the nail bed where the cuticle used to be. Seriously?! There's paint on my cuticle. It looks sloppy. She hastily removed the polish and re-did two fingers. At this point I was there for over an hour already. I noticed three other fingers with paint on the cuticles. Not impressed. I've been going to A1 for the past 6 years and it's still the only nail salon I go to and get my manicure and pedicure done. Like any other place, you just have to go in there and and find the person who you feel takes the best care of you. For those of you who are not sure based on the mixture of reviews, let me help you out. When you go for a manicure/pedicure, ask for AMY! She is the only person I've ever had do this service for me. Did I mention she's been my nail tech for SIX years (literally)! If you want to get your eyebrows done, ask for ROSE! She does an incredible job with eyebrows and she's the only person I let do my eyebrows because I have a natural arch that I don't want messed with. I am also African-American and I've never had them treat me any type of negative way. It's a very busy place especially on the weekends so if you go for a walk-in, you WILL have to wait.
