I was so impressed with Soot & Cinders! I have never owned a wood burning fireplace and Kelly was so kind to teach me about proper use & maintenance. My house was built in 1937 and the fireplaces had not been used in years. There was raccoon damage & all kinds of mess. He worked so hard to get it cleaned and did not charge me more than my quote of $150. He will be coming back in the Spring to repair our Chimney. We needed a new refractory panel in our fireplace, and Kelly came out to clean and assess the situation. I was a little bit lost about what needed to be done, and Kelly was very forthcoming and answered all my questions. Our chimney cap had been replaced awhile ago and was installed incorrectly, it was the wrong size and so we were getting a lot of heat through the walls. Kelly took pictures and explained everything, and installed the correct sized chimney cap. He also sealed up some cracks around the chimney in our stucco and tightened down the chase cap. He was extremely knowledgeable and kind, and it was great seeing the pictures of the work he did on the roof! Great value as well, everything was very reasonably priced. I met Kelly years ago when he cleaned out my dryer vent after we'd experienced some issues with our dryer not working very well. He'd left such a great impression that after we bought our new home a decade later, I immediately looked him up and contacted him for help. Our new home was built in 1950, and looked like the ducts had never been touched. They were so filthy! I also suffer from asthma. So it was a priority to get them cleaned, and done right. Kelly's method is genius! He doesn't use brushes that just push the dust around. He uses an octopus-like apparatus that scours your vents with its high air pressure and then jettisons all the filth outside your home, safely containing it all. He works hard and fast, and pays attention to every detail. And he's incredibly affordable too. He cleaned my air ducts PLUS reconfigured and cleaned my dryer vent (also badly needed) for only $425! Believe me, the job he did took many hours and he did a stellar job. Well worth it. Now I can breathe easy! Don't waste your money on the cheaper guys- air duct cleaning is an art and a science, not just about pushing a brush into them. Plus he also does dryer vents (both cleaning and reconfiguring), chimney and stove cleaning, and brick work! If I could give him 10 stars, I would. Kelly was a very hard worker, did a fantastic job cleaning our air ducts, and got an excellent product. Our ducts are basically brand new again! AND he helped up resolve a very annoying problem of no heat getting to my 2 year old son's room. After the vents were clean, that room gets heat! I honestly didn't value this service before. We were having issues w/ our one year old Maytag dryer. We thought that a bird had built a nest in the dryer vent again but it turns out that the people who delivered and set up our dryer used such a long hose at the back end that it was getting smooshed in the tight space and not allowing air to flow through properly. This could've caused a fire. Not happy w/ Lowe's b/c that's where I bought the dryer and they delivered and set it up for us. However, I am very pleased w/ Kelly. He's honest and he told us what was actually the problem. He cut the vent hose to fit the tight space and so the air would flow properly and be safe. And he cleaned our vent per my request anyhow, even though it wasn't the issue b/c I figured it wouldn't hurt and would give me peace of mind. He did a fantastic job. Kelly is a true professional and he's very polite and most important, honest. And he didn't charge me an arm an a leg either. His pricing is very fair.
