I have had Jon out a few times to sweep my chimney and install a top damper. He arrived at the pre determined time and spent about an hour cleaning the chimney and firebox. I burn a lot of wood so Jon's services are very much needed. He is very proud of his homemade vacuum and will give you the whole story on how his equipment is vastly superior than the competition. Jon easily deserves 5 stars. He squeezed me in earlier than our set appointment, got right down to business, and fairly and honestly told me my chimney does not even need a clean. (I am a new homeowner and had no idea the condition of previous tenants). He simply charged me for the inspection, and we agreed it would be best if he did the actual cleaning after I light this baby up like the 4th of July all winter long. Read the low reviews first, there is a theme!!! I called a few other places to get quotes on a chimney inspection as I just moved into a house. However, the only business that called me back was Jon. He was able to get me in the same day, however he was extremely racist and not like your uncle who is out of touch racist , but the type of racist that makes you concerned with your safety. Ironically, he was also very anti communist/ socialist but strangely obsessed with Russia. He did more talking than working and wouldn't look at my boyfriend when he would talk, he made direct eye contact only with me. My boyfriend is from Iran and not Muslim, but Jon made multiple uncomfortable comments about Muslims. He also told me that Obama and AOC are not citizens and then said that we have another Hitler in office referencing Biden. I'm not a political person on the Left/Right scale, but I've noticed it's becoming more common for people on both sides to push their opinions on you, so I can handle some of the banter, but with Jon it got to a point where we felt unsafe. My boyfriend and I were extremely uncomfortable and we couldn't wait for him to get out of our house. He won't be welcomed back. P.S. he only takes cash or checks so it seems like most of his business is under the table. He didn't give us any upfront notice about the cash/check situation so we had to run to the ATM for cash and what was originally supposed to be $139 turned into $209 because he insisted we needed a cleaning. read more

EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I will never hire them again. My husband and I just moved into the new house, needed a chimney inspection also the valve was broken and we weren't able to lift it so we asked for help in this case as well. They came into the house spent max 5min and told me that if we stop cooperation at this point it will be 150$ because the chimney doesn't need to be clean and that it is such an old school fireplace that is lucking the screw and it is not possible to fix the valve and what I could do is just get the fire brick and stick it to lift the valve permanently then it will vent, it will be 260$ if I wish to have the chimney cleaned but it doesn't require it at this point. They seemed extremely in a rush didn't even bother to go and check the chimney cap at the roof! After their visit, I decided to see it a little bit closer. Found the screw and fixed it by myself, being 7months pregnant. The next day I called them to share my customer's experience perhaps they would like to hear it, I said that they didn't fix the problem moreover told me it is not possible to fix in a meanwhile I figured it out by myself! I haven't heard any apologies all they said is that they are impressed with me that I fixed it... I asked them how can I trust them at this point? All I heard was just the most ridiculous explanations ever: for example - "I was happy with their visit yesterday and I call 12 hours after?" After this conversation, I felt very unrespected, maybe if I was a man with an American accent this situation would end up different. In my opinion, these guys are racist and don't really want to help their customers out, they don't know how to do a business properly and I wasn't treated with respect! read more

After reading his reviews, I decided to have him come clean our two chimneys. He was very honest about chimney maintenance and gave us a competitive price. He is very old school and only takes checks or cash, no cards. I had to help him calculate the cost of everything and add tax. He did do a great job and left everything clean. We have white carpet and light color couches and everything was still clean by the end. He does like to spark conversations about both religion and politics. Some people might not like that, but I thought it was a fun conversation. He told me he made his vacuum because they just don't build ones with strong enough suction. I watched him work and was able to see how much came out of our fire place. I recommend him if you want a good and thorough job done. read more

Needed an inspection and leak repair on our chimney. Jon's company installed a new top cap 20 years ago and did a great job, so I call him for the repair. He showed up at the appointed time (although he got lost coming to the house). He was looking for the best spot to put his ladder up to get on the roof to look at the chimney. Once a place was settled on, he asked if I would help steady the ladder for his ascent and decent. I went inside to get a jacket (it was a 'brisk' day) and when I came back out he was on the sidewalk in front of my neighbor's house looking at the chimney. He informed me that upon looking at the height and the roof(?), he would not get on the roof to look at the chimney. He said he was 'fearful' of the height (two story house with a walkout basement). I mentioned that I was surprised since it was his company that did the work years before. He said that he was busier then and had a few guys working for him, so one of his crew probably did the work, not him. He said he thinks the guy he sent over was 'lit' a lot of the time and heights didn't bother him! So, you refuse to get on the roof and your former employee you sent was probably under the influence on my job?! Look elsewhere, IMHO, if you have more than a single story home. read more

We wanted to use our fireplace this week, and, as a new homeowner, I was very concerned that the chimneys hadn't been cleaned for decades (our house had previously been rented out to college students, so we have not much idea about what maintenance had been done during that time). I called another chimney sweep, and got a quote. Then I called Jon, AAA London Chimney Sweep. He seemed like a good guy; he promised unique results based on his exclusive technology; and he could come that day. He told me that he wasn't sure of his schedule, so he'd call within a few hour time frame to check in. Well, believing that he'd call before he got to our house, I went out running errands. During his window, he called and asked if we were home. I said we weren't but were close by. He said he was already at my house and he'd wait by "camping out in our yard." That was all fine, but was a little disappointed that he didn't call before coming to my house. When we arrived home, we found a man, dressed all in black with a stovepipe hat. I guess he really did want to be a London chimney sweep. And he was napping on our porch. A little strange, but whatever. His "technology" to keep our room dust free? He claims that he has an exclusive vacuum system that pulls 4-5 times the amount of suction that his competitors do. I don't know if this is true, except that the vacuum he used was large and clearly custom made. His other technology -- electric and blankets (many with holes on one side) he put down on our carpet while he was working. While this isn't exactly the "technology" I was expecting, the house was dust-free, and I didn't find any soot prints on the carpet. During his thorough cleaning (can you believe chimney sweeps use the same hard brushes that you see in Mary Poppins?) he pointed out the features of our classic fireplaces, explained our inevitable chimney repair, and showed me how our third fireplace could actually be made usable again. He got a lot of gunk out of each fireplace, and they look ready for use. He gets only three stars because, well, he was offensive. One of the first things he said to me, out of the blue, was something to the effect of "I can't believe the British were prophets--forecasting a real-life Frankenstein. But I have two words to prove the prophesy true: Chaz Bono." Seriously? You just met me and you're calling transgendered individuals "Frankensteins" (or Frankenstein's Monsters, more particularly)? He made a few more vaguely racist remarks, too, during the course of his two work (for two chimneys). But mostly, he just talked my ear off. Mostly about classic cars. And about how his competitors weren't as good as he was, and the chimney sweep industry is dying. Perhaps a better person would have just said that the talk was offensive. Or maybe just walked away. But he intersperced his rambling with substantive questions or comments about the work, so I felt like even if I were to walk away, he'd be calling me back in a minute or two. I appreciate that he didn't try to up-sell me on liners for all our chimneys. And I appreciate that the fireplace looks clean now. And his prices were competitive (p.s. tell him you got quotes from competitors and he'll lower his regular asking price). And he does have an A+ BBB rating. But I can't say I would invite him back into my home. If you can endure (or extricate yourself from) the talking, you can get a good job done at a good price. read more

He shared a litany of explicative language regarding his ex-wife. It was obvious that he holds women in very low regard. He talked non-stop. Got right to work, did an excellent job, gave me some good advice, and was just a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end. Taking care of fireboxes and chimneys is not my long suit. Bottom line is he does a good job. Cleaned the stove and chimney, and explained what he does that makes him different from others. I only give four stars because he was an hour and a half late to my appointment, and I had to give him driving directions to the house He isn't up to date on technology very much, which isn't a bad thing, except if it detracts from your business being the best it can be, as a GPS would help tremendously. He also cleans dryer vents if you need that done, which can be as dangerous as a dirty chimney. With regards to his personal feelings and thoughts, I don't believe that should have any effect on what kind of review I give him. He does good work, and if you don't like having a friendly conversation and occasional debate, then just don't talk to him about things. He is very outspoken and not afraid of telling you his opinion whether you ask or not. People on here that have given him bad reviews seem to be reviewing based on emotions because they were offended, not based on his quality of work. read more

I seriously thought the Mary Poppins reviews were bunk, but oh no, this man is a mix of Alice Cooper and Mary Poppins. He wears a top hat, NO JOKE! Like a nice top hat. Very nice and informative. He may come on strong with his honesty but it's nice to hear. He pulled up and thought my hubby and friend were trouble because our house was a convent, but the nuns used him for years which says a lot. He suggested we make a costly repair, but I asked him if it could wait and he said yes a couple of years. Also he answers questions on the phone if you ever have any. Him and my husband hit it off. He took 3 hours and was really thorough, don't know how much of that time is my husbands fault. Based on the time he spent and the cost, we are getting the better end of the deal. He's a master of his craft! Also he is super busy but if you make your appointments after the end of the season it's easier to get a spot, we clean our chimneys in the late spring/ early summer when we are closing up our fireplace for the season! read more
