I went in for an inspection and they told me it would not pass due to a slash in my tire. I could not find the slash, it is obvious they were trying to sell me tires. I went to another inspection place and it passed and no mention of a tire being slashed and I still cannot find the issue a year later....hmmmm the tire is fine. read more

Just bad all around. Friendly I guess for a 1 star. Appointment times are meaningless, 2 hours for an oil change with or without every time I have gone. Did not rotate my wife's tires because they were "too worn", not to the tread bars though. Easily 10K + left. Charged me for an alignment that I did not get which eventually ruined a tire on my truck. Missed a leaking brake caliper on this truck as well. All of this convinced me just not to return until yesterday when I went to change oil on both vehicles. Drain plugs were so tight on both it required a breaker bar to loosen. Threads came with on the wife's Honda. Fortunately enough were left to reinstall. Lesson one for anyone who has ever changed oil is don't over tighten the drain plug! I am a AAA Premiere member and had my vehicle towed here after a brake issue on the freeway. The staff was friendly and the waiting area and retail area are clean and neat. Harris Teeter is within walking distance for lunch or dinner. The main downside here was the price - I was charged $99.95 to tighten or replace a single bolt in the brake caliper. A bit excessive but being from out of town I really had no choice. Had I broke down on flat pavement I would have removed the wheel and checked out the issue myself. read more

I use AAA for all my repairs, tires, engine, brakes, inspection, service. The customer service of Renee, the porter is outstanding. I am a woman of a certain age and need rides home and back to the service center on Merrimon Avenue next to Harris Teeter. To be able to get into a vehicle with another woman who is taking me to my home is very comforting and reassuring. I am terribly frightened of getting into a car with a man I am not familiar with or feel safe with. Renée even had a chammie for my dirty eyeglasses. Her driving is impeccable, even when using GPS that didn't talk to her. For a safe, excellent experience be sure to use AAA on Merrimon Ave. And ask for Renee, Randy or Tommy. read more

Then he said it's the height. Not length. It seems to me they just don't want business. Drove around store. And was ample height and turning radius to pull into the bay. The staff was very friendly, but don't go here unless you have time to wait. I made an appointment for an oil change at 2, and they did not even bring my car into the garage until 2:45. I had an work meeting at 3:30 and had to ask them at the front desk at 3:10 when my car would be ready. It was ready about 5 minutes later, and I had to rush to my meeting. I even asked them on the phone how long they thought it would take when I scheduled the appointment, and I was told no longer than 30 minutes. I can never say enough about AAA Carolina. They've saved me several times, plus so much money over this past year. I've needed long distance towing a couple times. Just today I locked myself out of my car here at my house. I out of habit locked the door and shut the door without checking for my keys. (1st time in 38 years I've ever done this) Not only did I lock myself out of my car, but I also locked myself out of my house! The keys are on the same ring. It was 30°F at the time too....and I didn't have my coat! I felt like such an idiot! I came really close to breaking into my house, which would have set off my house alarm. Then I remembered my AAA card. They were so nice and even made my call a "priority". From the time I called AAA to the time the guy arrived was about 5 mins! He had my car open in about 15 seconds. I've been a a AAA member since 1968 and a customer at AAA Car Care Asheville since they opened. Last month, I made an appointment to have my headlamps refreshed. AAA had done it two years ago and it failed. They have a Lifetime Warranty. I arrived on time for the scheduled appointment, and since I had waited two hours for the last procedure, left the car. I returned three hours later and was surprised to see my vehicle had not been moved or worked on. In my response to status inquiry at the office, a mechanic, identified as Stuart, was dispatched to my parked vehicle. He wore no mask or gloves. Using my keys, he unlocked my vehicle and opens the door.! As he was about to enter, I asked "how long will this take". He responded flatly "Hours". I said "That might be funny if we hadn't been waiting three hours already". With that he closed the door, locked the vehicle and aggressively walked up to me and my wife. He handed the keys to me, said they were short staffed ant to "Have a nice "f-ing day"., and walked away. I asked the only employee in the office, who was wearing a mask, for a refund, since the mechanic refused service. His only suggested remedy was to seek satisfaction of the warranty at another AAA Auto Care. But there are none in the area. I realize everyone has a bad day from time to time, and these are especially trying times. However, I my 68 years, I have never encountered such rudeness. read more

We brought our truck to AAA for air conditioning issues. I booked and appointment and the vehicle was ready as promised. The air was blowing cold once again but the service advisor also cautioned they could find no leak so it might be a very small one and to bring it back if we had any issues.So far, so good. read more

Went to this facility because it was close to my house - and I was having something somple done, balancing 4 wheels. Well, spend the next 8 hours ( road trip) vibrating all the way - not only not balanced, but the rear tires were way out of balance. Had all 4 rebalanced at my destination, smooth ride is back. read more

Mismanagement, lack of communication, poor service, dishonest Do not go here plain and simple, here is my saga. A few weeks ago I brought my car in after it had been hit and started making noises. I had filed a claim with their insurance and got an estimate from AAA all well and fine, they confirmed the undercarriage damage was from the impact and put it in the computer and on the estimate. Then it all went down hill. The insurance sent out an adjuster, who upon arrival was told by staff the car was there for a bumper scrape and front end issue, they neglected to mention the 1,200+ in damage underneath the car that they had observed and written an estimate on. When I found this out I called and spoke to a manager asking what happened and why the appropriate information had not been relayed. His actual , quoted response was, "well, I don't know" as if to write it off. The shop manager said this, I asked how they couldn't have known if it is in the system. He had no reasonable explanation. I called corporate, simply because I was floored that someone in a manager position could oversee such a lack of communication and have no idea for what is going on. This instance in the end also cost me the entire cost of the repairs. And corporate sent me a reference number but this issue was never followed up on. But we will get to that. So now due to lack of communication and management the insurance company is saying they are only covering the paint job. I fight to have them go out again but I was informed it may not change anything as it would be an "addition" to the adjustment and require extra review. The adjuster goes out and takes photos crawling under the car, he reports that AAA wouldn't put it up on the lfit because they were busy. AAA disputed this saying he came in and went out without waiting. The insurance company continued to dispute the damages (during this they are supplying me with a rental car). For a third time I am talking to both AAA and the insurance to get the adjuster out to get the car up and the photos of the damage underneath from an appropriate angle. (This has been going on, going on 2 weeks now) During this time I asked to have photos of the damage sent to me so I could either forward it or have for records. The guy working with me agreed to this at the end of the shift or next day. Never heard back about them or got them. Then finally the insurance adjuster is going back out, unfortunately at the middle of the day, I am on rotation and working all day and unable to go. I call and spoke to a woman who I asked to relay a message since I could not reach the guy I had been talking to, asking for him to get a copy of paper work and pictures so I had an idea what was going on. I never heard about any of this or received any of it. Instead I found from the insurance that the tech showing had stated that the damage was caused by driving after impact. I never felt anything until a few days after and took it in right away. Regardless this is the a total change from what I had been told for 2 weeks. I was sent documentation and spoke to multiple people about this with the insurance. At this point the insurance pulled my rental care and reported they would not cover any cost beyond the bumper. I was now stuck with the cost of the repair. and had to scramble to figure out transportation all because of a serious lack of communication and management on the first pass of all this. I scrambled and got the car towed out of AAA to a private mechanic I was referred to by a family member. When I arrived to get my keys nothing was said or mentioned, and I was given 2 keys, one was mine another was someone elses car, more of the lack of of quality of service. Upon inspection by the new mechanic it was found that some of the parts AAA claimed were damaged were not. I again called corporate and filed a complaint, I was told someone from corporate would talk to the shop and follow up with me. Instead the shop manager (from before) called and immediately denied everything. In the end I was stuck with the entire cost of the repair read more

I called to make an appointment to get my tires replaced and when I asked how long it would take I was reassured multiple times that it "would not take long at all" and that I could sit and wait for it (not long at all sounds like a half hour at most). When I arrived at AAA for the replacement I was told it would take an hour and a half. I think that AAA should be upfront with their customers over the phone when making appointments how long they will have to wait for the car care so they can plan accordingly and not have to sit there for an hour and a half waiting. Also once I went up to pay for the repair I was told it would be $20 more than I had expected to pay for the installation costs it said I would be paying. I was told it was $3 per tire for some ridiculous cost and then tax on top of the $80 I was already paying for tires to be put on my car. The employees working there couldn't have been nicer but I just think some organization and time management is needed. read more

The only reason I choose 3 stars and not 4 because I always believe there's room for improvement. Let me explain for example I have been a AAA member for over 8 years and my girlfriend has been a member for 10 plus years. With that being said both her and I have "shopped around" when it comes to getting work done on both of our vehicles. We both have found that compairing price points AAA is in the same range as other company's in the area with AAA being higher most times. So that's a plus! Also they are very kind and respectful at the front desk when dropping off your vehicle. So that's another plus. Some negative points it seems when I'm in the waiting room every person generally is tried to be "upsold" what I mean is for example I went in for a oil change and they told me I needed to have a brake fluid flush. Not knowing the Brakes, brake pads and brake fluid was only 3 weeks old. I don't knock them for trying I mean that's just one example I could go on and on. I wanted a tire rotation. They said my tires weren't good enough to rotate but I could get 3 new ones for around $435. My point in all this is always get a second or third opinion when they come to you in the waiting room and tell you something is dramatically wrong with your vehicle... hold off.. take a deep breathe and seek other options to compair to. If there the best price then go with whoever is the best. Last of all and most importantly AAA might not be the cheapest place in town but I will admit they do 110% work!! Never cutting corners with my truck atleast and I always know I might pay more but it's worth it(sometimes) to take care of my truck!!! So thank you AAA it's been a pleasure. read more

Oh my gosh, I was totally impressed with AAA and their Car Care. I was stuck at Westgate when my truck wouldn't start. I assumed that it wasn't the battery as AAA had already replaced it during the summer. I called AAA to have a tow. Instead of towing it to my normal repair shop, since I was close to their repair shop, I figured that I would give their Car Care a try. Before the tow driver arrived, I was able to start my truck. The tow driver suggested I stay on the phone with him until I arrived at the shop. Impressed. The service advisor, Bryan Cooper, was pleasant, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. He went outside to check the battery terminal and told me it wasn't the starter either. So, I left my truck with them. He arranged for Lyft to take me home. Next morning, he called to tell me that the problem was my fuel pump. Yikes! Needed to be done so I said to fix it. I checked online and based on price ranges for standard parts/labor, their quoted price was acceptable. To save me a trip to my other repair shop, I asked him to have my tires rotated and balanced. Later that afternoon, Lyft returned me to Car Care where I picked up my truck. Needless-to-say, I was totally impressed with the whole process. The service center was incredibly busy; however, I felt like I was the only customer with Bryan's attention to my questions, concerns, etc. Talk about providing stellar customer service! I just purchased a new Jeep Grand Cherokee and plan to use Car Care for its service needs now, too. Thanks, Bryan! You made an incredibly unpleasant situation bearable! read more

John, Service Advisor, very knowledgeable and helpful. Only issue I had was I checked my tires (cold) before the AAA service and they were all at 30 psi, which is the manufacturer's recommended pressure. After returning home I double checked because the sensor gage on my vehicle showed 34 psi - front R/L and 36 psi rear R/L. I allowed 24 hours so I could check the dash sensor again (cold), and they still produced the same reading. I adjusted each tire to the recommended level shown on the door, which again, is 30 psi - all tires, front/back...35 for the spare, which I didn't check. I have to assume someone in AAA service put the excessive air in all four tires. I know the psi can go up/down depending on several factors, but again, the psi was way out of line. Not a big deal, but I would have expected service to follow the recommended psi on the door. read more

I have had my oil changed here once, all my tires replaced, and my emissions testing done. My husband has had similar services done as well. We are very happy. They have a complimentary van that will drive you to work or your home while it is done. They don't do anything on your car without calling you and giving you a quote first. You can make an appointment same day and the service is excellent. There is very rarely a wait. There are snacks and drinks in the waiting room. It is within walking distance to Chick-fil-A, Harris Teeter, and Five Guys (plus, plus, plus). They gave us the AAA price even though we aren't members which was pretty OG. I have been satisfied by their work and their emission test was only $30. They might be a little more expensive than the average car repair shop, but with the non-AAA discount it is worth the high quality service. I will continue to go here for all my car care needs. read more

However, I made an appointment first thing in the morning and it took over 1 1/2 hours to just get my oil changed and an inspection. The mechanics didn't seem in any particular hurry to get the work done. AAA has a great coupon for the oil change that helps keep costs down, but definitely be prepared to wait. read more

HONESTY AND INTEGRITY!!! That's what I experienced today at this location. Today was the first time going to a AAA location for auto repairs. I had my oil changed and had two new tires put on. The reason I write this is because a few months ago I went to a local auto repair place near my house, and had two tires put on. The mechanic told me that I was in desperate need of brakes because they were paper thin. I didn't have a good feeling so I told him that I'd pass on the brakes. I asked today to have my brakes looked at today, and was told that there was still time before I needed new ones. We also talked about an alignment for my front end as the car is 10 years old, and honestly I haven't had it aligned in ages. On the way to AAA I thought it would be needed, but they let me know that once they put the new tires on that the alignment checked out just fine. It turned out to be the old tires were just worn down. So there were two opportunities that they could've taken me to the bank, and they didn't. I was impressed and told them so in the store, but felt like I needed to let the general public know as well. I will definitely be going back there from now on. read more

My Hyundai Santa Fe would not start after filling it with gas. Initially i thought it was a weak battery and replaced that. The next time I filled the car I called AAA for a tow. The car started after the tow truck arrived but he suggested I tow it to the the AAA Car Care Center and have the car checked. The mechanic there stated that the probable cause was the purge valve.The center replaced a canister vent valve (shut off valve) and the fuel canister for a total of $684.10 ( but never actually replaced the purge valve as was recommended). They stated that they had called Hyundai and this was the procedure that was recommended. They also stated that they had put on the purge valve. The next time I filled my car it again did not start until about 10 minutes later and several tries to crank it. I returned to the AAA Center and they recommended dropping the gas tank and replace a valve there for another $400. My cousin read a Hyundai forum that stated the most likely cause was the purge valve which takes about 20 minutes to put on and is a $60.00 part. I went back to the car care center and discussed that the parts they put on were not the purge valve and asked if they would put it on without additional charge or some type of adjustment. They would not. According to them it was a Hyundai error as they put on my car what Hyundai recommended. They ignored the fact that someone at the AAA Center had initially recommended the purge valve. If the service center is not sure what part to replace they should at least try the least expensive part and work up from there. It is easy to feel ripped off when a $680.00 does not fix the problem and then they are recommending another $400 and the real problem was actually only $120 total once I took it to another place. I do not recommend this service center as I feel their prices are expensive and they are not trustworthy. read more

Not too long ago my teenage daughter was driving around in Asheville when she heard a funny noise. She and a friend with her exchanged puzzled looks, then she pressed on the gas pedal: no response. After a few minutes of guessing the problem, she came up empty - much like the real problem - an empty gas tank. A nice, older gentleman provided some assistance and wisely diagnosed the problem. My daughter called AAA in Asheville and they promptly sent out a tow company. The driver put a little gas in the tank but could not get the car started. So he towed it to AAA Car Care. At some point during the whole ordeal, my daughter handed the programmable car key to the tow truck driver, and left shortly thereafter in an Uber car. I drove to Asheville to pick up the girls and just for kicks went to the beleaguered car to see if I could work some magic. One crank and the car magically started! A few chuckles later I devised a simple plan to highlight the naivety of my precious daughter, and friend. I joined them at the mall and chatted with them about their amazing adventures. My daughter was flabbergasted when I picked them up in the car that "needed a new starter" according to the tow company. This was Saturday. On Monday I called to have the key returned to me. "What key?" There was no record of it, no trace. It was lost and I finally appealed to the manager at AAA, asserting that it was of no concern to me HOW the key was lost, but the fact that it had been lost was AAA's responsibility. The manager agreed and promised to reimburse the $175 replacement cost. I ordered the new key and AAA reimbursed me in full for the key. Well done, AAA of Asheville! I was travelling with my family to Asheville for a brief vacation. We had a gas leak scare on our old van and weren't sure what to do. We didn't know any mechanics we could trust in Asheville, but we took a chance on AAA. They got us in very promptly and checked our van out. They inspected it thoroughly. When they found that there was indeed no gas leak and nothing for them to fix, they sent us on our way and didn't even charge us for the inspection. I wish we lived close enough to take our car to them regularly. They were both courteous and professional, and they ensured our family could have a fun vacation without worrying about our van. Terrible service. It took them two days and $200 to figure out they couldn't fix my car. On the second day, I was waiting patiently for them to call and update about my car. After hearing nothing from them, I called at the end of the day. It seemed like they had figured out that they could not fix my car several hours ago and never got around to calling me. Then they did absolutely nothing to help me take my car to a different mechanic so it could be fixed. They were unapologetic and unhelpful in helping get my car fixed. We had a few hiccups with the manager. We were quoted too high. Then he "all of a sudden" he brought the price down to half of what he was going to charge us. He did then apologized for the "miscommunication." I would never take my car back there again. I feel like they quote you too high on purpose to see if you are paying attention and then when they get caught, they bring the price down. I would advice everyone that goes there to be careful and pay attention to what they quote you. Call around to see what other dealerships would charge you before paying the full price. So far, my first time joining AAA has been a big disappointment. But you learn everyone's true character as you go. read more

On July 20, 2016 we were traveling through Asheville, NC to go to Lexington, KY. After a trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway, we developed brake issues. We went to a local AutoZone who recommended several local shops. We called AAA since we've been long time members(1987)....although we've never used their car care services. Since we called after the AAA Car service shop was closed, the AAA representative was very helpful and made us an appointment for 7:30 am. We arrived at the shop at 7:30, but our car wasn't taken into the bay until 8am. My husband was sitting where he could see the van being worked on. The mechanic took off the tires and brakes and then he proceeded to get coffee, smoke a cigarette and even eat some breakfast. My husband went and spoke to someone and they said the mechanic was done and they were working on the estimate. He came back with an estimate of 850.00. My husband called our local mechanic who told us that was outrageous and the price should be about 250.00. We asked them to put everything back together...we were going someplace else. I will give them this...they didn't charge us anything for looking at the car. In the meantime my daughter tweeted about our experience. The tweet from @aaacarolinas was that they would like to make it right. Shortly after that the rep who gave my husband the estimate came and asked if we were upset. I told him that I called AAA because of all people I felt I could trust away from home it was AAA, but we had been in contact with our local mechanic who told us what the price should be. He stated that the prices automatically come up. He did tell me that he was recommending NAPA parts with their warranty(my vehicle is 10 yrs. old....I didn't need the warranty). I asked him if there were other parts that weren't so expensive. He indicated there were, but again he was recommending NAPA. Incidentally, my husband had asked if there were any cheaper parts available and he was told No. The rep(I didn't get his name...we were so upset at this point....thinking our vacation...which had barely started....was over) did apologize for the fact that we were upset, but he didn't have control over the prices....the computer automatically populated the estimate. When we got in the vehicle, my tweeting daughter told me about her tweet and the response from @aaacarolinas about how they'd make it right. My daughter did receive a tweet or email asking us to submit a bill from the work we had done to evaluate why there was such a difference in the price, but honestly we were so done and ready to be on vacation. An apology doesn't make it right. We went back to the same AutoZone on Hwy 70 (near the BRP exit/entrance) where Benjamin was very helpful and gave us several names of local shops to check with. He also gave us the price of said parts...which totalled to 179.00. Auto Barn in Swannonoa on Hwy 70, which is a small shop, told us they could do the job for about 250.00. Just the cost for parts and 60.00 labor. The "customer waiting" area(there was actually none didn't have A/C, eletrical outlets or even nice padded seats. The owner put out some seating for us, offered us water, chatted with us and took care of us....like our mechanic back home would have. We were able to be back on the road after lunch and safely made it through all the mountains. read more
