Bullies, gaslighters and bamboozlers... I've been bringing my car for service to this location for close to a decade and I've been pretty happy. I needed a clutch replacement a few years ago and they were accommodating with me purchasing the clutch less expensively online, and they installed it with no problems. They're a bit on the expensive side but I don't mind paying a little extra for trustworthiness and not being talked down to, and ultimately the value of a long term, established service relationship. I was about to take a six hour drive a couple of days ago so I brought the vehicle in to get squeaky brakes addressed, to be on the safe side. They identified (through the car computer) that I needed struts replaced, but there were no symptoms and because I have very limited financial resources I decided to defer that work. As soon as I got on the highway there are started to be a new noise coming from the front, and because I was a little nervous about having not done the strut work, I assumed that was the cause. It worsened progressively and I called the garage. They said it was the struts (that they had heard noise during test drive) but that driving on the bad struts would be fine, just a noisy and rough ride. The noise was really bad and so by the time I brought it back to the garage to be addressed on my return, and after researching symptoms of bad struts, I doubted it was the struts. When I arrived and started going through the symptoms the person at the desk immediately became defensive that the brake service was the cause, and wouldn't listen to me at all, interrupting constantly. He insisted that the noise I was hearing existed before servicing, but he refused to listen to any details about the pattern or intensity of the noise - he just dug in that it must be the struts and showed no attitude of "of course, we'll look into it and figure out what's going on". The guy didn't like how I was disagreeing with his explanation and sarcastically asked "do you do this for a living"? Putting aside the fact that I've been an engineer for 40 years, that's a bullying way to approach a customer when they are asking very reasonable questions and expecting an open attitude of diagnosis the problem. Instead he decided what the problem is before even test driving it. I'm sure a lot of people who aren't knowledgable about cars who how to step through diagnosing a problem would be completely shut down and accept the gaslighting. I left the car there. He test drove it. He was wrong and I was right. I got a phone call saying that "all the lugs on the front right wheel were worn and needed to be replaced" - no apologies for how he treated me. Just as with the struts, there were no symptoms of that type of wheel issue prior to service, and the likelihood of a single wheel somehow developing five badly worn lug nuts is remote on it's own, but for it to suddenly degrade into a major problem with no other obvious cause is more than a little bit remote. Rather, immediately after they took the wheels off and put them back on the problem emerged. It defies common sense to reject that as the cause, and that's the bamboozling aspect, especially combined with the attitude. Nevertheless, when I picked up the vehicle the next day, interacting with a different desk guy: 1. He insisted it wasn't their fault using absurd logic like "it couldn't be a service issue because we're careful". People make mistakes - this is kind of a serious one but it happens - it's just the nature of mechanical work. The key is owning up and making it right. 2. He had no explanation for how five lug nuts would become worn and the others be fine - "I don't know". 3. He prevaricated when I asked if it was at all possible that the brake servicing precipitated the problem. Obviously it could, but he insisted no, I don't see how. 4. Believe it or not he tried to charge me for the lug nuts. When I challenged whether I should have to pay for those he grabbed the invoice and said angrily, we're not charging you. When the guy from the day prior came by and heard that I wasn't being charge he angrily insisted I should be charged the $35 for the lug nuts, I guess as punishment because he didn't like the way I was challenging the quality of the work. 5. I asked if the owner would want to discuss the situation and they said I would not be getting a call, like it was some kind of joke to even ask. 6. I told them I would be writing reviews and they couldn't care less, basically saying "this is just a difference of opinion", as if that made the situation right or that other prospective customers would see it that way. The brake servicing cost $1000 with parts and labor. They could have saved this customer relationship in spite of the error but their attitude destroyed it. The obvious duplicity, defensiveness and arrogance have made it impossible for me to go back. And of course, a serious safety error like that certainly erodes trust in the care the read more

I called in the afternoon and they took my car the next morning. CV joint assembly replaced in 2.5 hrs, after my appointment time, including time waiting for parts. If that wasn't cool enough, cost came in under estimate. Great location and nice folks. read more

I really am not the one to leave reviews like this, matter of fact, this is my first one, but I feel so disregarded and cheated by my visit to precision. After paying $850, my truck is still non operational, I asked them to check my fuel pump, they ran a "diagnostic" test, they never told me the results and nothing was addressed to fix it, they just charged me an extra $100 and called it a day. I just wanted to give this place and the wonderful workers a shout out. To give some context: there has been some bad gang violence taking place in the Triangle (shoots, stabbing, rolling gun battles, etc.) anyways after the second shooting spree in less than a week we NEEDED to get away. We were considering Asheville as a potential place to call home so we came up to hopefully relax and also frantically house hunt ‍. A ton of roads in Asheville are extremely tiny and in more than one point during our house hunt we got stuck trying to get through a 1 lane road with cars and trucks on both sides and at some point we heard something bad hit our tire as we were trying to get out under a pile of leaves. Sure enough something hidden in the leaves on the road punctured our tire (we ironically just had them done 2 days prior) and our tire pressure was steadily decreasing. We had very little time with everything we had to do while in Asheville and absolutely needed the car for it and to make matters worse, all the tire places we called would take us till next day (when our tire would inevitably be flat in our hotel garage) and would only take us on a walk-in basis which sucks when your schedule is absolutely packed with necessities. Anyways our hopes of refilling the tire and crossing our fingers till morning we're dashed when the tire air machine was out of service in the surrounding gas stations and car washes. On a desperate hope I pulled into Precision Auto (towards what I'm sure was close to the end of the work day), explained the situation and asked if I could just re-inflate the tire a bit. NOT ONLT WERE THEY ALL TO WILLING TO DO THAT FOR ME BUT TWO OF THE MEN WORKING THERE FOUND THE HOLE AND PLUGGED IT! We tried to pay them but they wouldn't even accept payment! I've been going to Precision Tune since I bought my car. I'm not anymore. For the second time in maybe a year and a half, I've given them my car, they've given it back telling me it's good to go, and the same problem they were supposed to have fixed has stranded me shortly after. The first time, the car died on my way home from them. Yesterday, I got the car back after another job and ended up stranded today. In addition, this time, a number of smaller problems I asked them to handle didn't make it on the ticket and weren't repaired at all. I let that go because they said the car was good. It is not. I'll get the work done somewhere else along with any future repairs. Three stars instead of one because they did good work for me for about 5+ years prior to this, but I don't have time for this to happen a third time. I'm trying to work. Awful customer service and they refused to perform the service I asked for. Don't go here. So my friend's a mechanic and he looked at my car (which is very broken) and said it needed a new ignition switch, but he was going on vacation so he couldn't do it. So I went here. And I told the guy, "Hi I just want a new ignition switch." And he said, "Well what's it doing?" and I told him, and he said "That doesn't sound like a faulty ignition switch." And I said thank you for his opinion, but I wasn't there to get his opinion, I was there to get a new ignition switch. So I signed a little piece of paper saying they could look at my car (which I thought meant that they would look at my car and then replace the ignition switch because that's what I asked them to do). At NO point did I say, hey why don't you diagnose my car? I said, "Hey please replace my ignition switch." So let's fast forward two hours. This is two hours of me standing next to my car and a guy, Chuck, poking around under the hood. Chuck never talked to me at all or made eye contact or acknowledged my existence. At one point, while I'm literally 3 inches from the front tire, Chuck (without a word!) gets into my car and DRIVES AWAY to take it for a test drive. Okay, first of all, I didn't ask them to fucking take it for a test drive. Second of all, if the owner of the car is standing RIGHT THERE watching you poke at her car, maybe you could tell her that you're about to take it for a test drive. That is possibly the rudest fucking thing that's ever happened to me. So Chuck comes back (STILL COMPLETELY IGNORING ME) and I go to the front desk and the man, oh so politely like nothing is wrong, says, "Okay, so we took it for a test drive and we did a complete diagnostic and there's nothing wrong." and I said, "I didn't ask you to do a diagnostic, I know there's something wrong, I don't care if it didn't happen to you when you test drove it, I just asked you to replace this part." And then he said that he still didn't believe that the part was the problem and refused to change it, and suggested instead I leave my car there overnight and they'll keep testdriving it and trying to figure out if something is wrong. Uh no thank you. So then he charged me $68 and said he couldn't help me. ALL I WANTED WAS A NEW IGNITION SWITCH, AND HE REFUSED TO DO IT AND THEN CHARGED ME FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. And the WHOLE two hours I was there next to the car and they completely ignored me.What in the serious fuck. Don't go here. read more

Blake gave me estimate of $300.00 per parking break cable and claimed I needed to replace both. Totaling up to an estimate of over $900.00 to replace to parking break cables. I checked around online and found out that those cables only cost $30.00 per cable. I did not have him do any work to the car, and when I confronted him with what I had found out and that he had tried to scam me he had no excuse. I was charged $68.00 for a diagnostic fee and when he gave me the receipt it was BLANK, there was no proof of the estimate he had given me. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I think people should be aware of what kind of business this is. read more

After a long drive from NoVA, our check engine light came on and the engine started surging. Fortunately we were right outside this shop. The crew there immediately went to work and diagnosed the issue (gunked up intake). In the time it took for my kids to order and eat a Subway sandwich from next door, our car was fixed and test driven. When I went to pay, I was told that there was no charge, just a free diagnostic, and they were just happy to help! Incredible service, friendly crew, and a job done right. My car was not starting without a jump, so I took it to Precision Tune on Bryson Street. I usually get my oil changed there and didn't think to look at reviews before getting an estimate and diagnosis. They charged me $75ish for a diagnostic fee and told me it needs a new battery, driving belt, and alternator, totaling about $750. I decided to have a mechanic friend take a second look at it. He said the driving belt is in perfect condition but that it definitely needs a new battery. I got the alternator tested after having the battery installed, and it tested perfectly fine, as well. Don't trust these folks!! read more

I've always had great service at Precision Tune for over 20 years, and with my latest repair they truly went above and beyond anything I've ever received from any car repair shop. This time I brought my car in when my "check engine light" went on. As sometimes happens with the "check engine light", pinpointing the problem can be tricky. In my case, a different problem code came up each time they attempted a repair or replaced a part. This happened four times, and they never charged me a penny, even though they spent a lot of time with my car and had to order parts for it. When they finally got a clear diagnosis that my catalytic converter had to replaced, they charged me $700 less than the dealer wanted for the same job. Throughout this entire process they gave me loaner cars when I needed to leave my car for many hours, answered all of my questions, and doggedly pursued a variety of solutions until they came up with the one that worked. I truly feel that they bent over backward to do everything they could to assist me. I've had virtually all of my car repair/service done at Precision Tune since I moved to Asheville in 1996. I've had four cars in that time and each car has been well taken care of by them. Many times they have done small services for me for free. I've never had a breakdown because they have always kept my cars running well, and I've always been treated courteously. I'm happy to recommend them to anyone. read more

My daughter -- full time college student , working 2 jobs away from home drove her car to precision tune for estimate of repair to adjust front brakes only , her friend was with her as witness in which precision said would be 34.95 estimate. I got involved by means of my dauts request. Spoke with Blake who gave me estimate of $650.00 claimed I needed to replace both rotors & pads . then he brought price down to 535.00. I asked him to email invoice or estimate directly to me - he said he couldnt do that - then i asked him to take a picture of estimate/invoice and text by cell phone for review & again said he could not do that . I then googled his shop & found 83 attorney general complaints as warnings from past customers saying the exact same thing is bullying my daughter hannah . Blake said he will not release car unless i/she pay 160.00 for diagnostic in which he will not provide to us on paper as well bait and switching tacTic when he said it will be 34.95 diagnostic then said he is holding car for 160.00. get this -- now the car cant roll or drive So i have to get a tow truck involved to tow it out of shop.We did not have him do any work to the car, and when I confronted him with what I had found out and that he had tried to scam me he had no excuse. I was charged $160.00 for a diagnostic fee and no receipt diagnostic, there is no proof of the estimate he had given.. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but I think people should be aware of what kind of business this is. I just purchased this truck from a dealer for $10,000. The dealer agreed to fix the crack seal, radiator, and wheel bearing for me. The dealer asked me to take the car to Percision Tune for the appointment on Friday morning. I dropped the car off late Thursday night in their parking lot as I had to be at work early Friday morning. I made sure to park the truck correctly and pulled completely into the space. Friday morning, Percision Tune calls me and says there is a huge dent in the side of the truck, it looks like someone backed into it. I told them I did not drop the truck off like that, they know I just bought it as they looked at it 2 days prior to dropping it off. I spoke to the manager and explained to them I did not drop off the truck like that, the dent is very noticable. He went on to say that no one picked up a car that night and the mechanic that opened at 6am was the one who noticed it. There were no cameras in their parking lot. They did not take responsibility for the damage or offer to help fix it. I am very dissatisfied that I just spent so much money on this truck. read more

Not only was the service without communication, lengthy, & a rip-off, we actually had a much bigger issue. There was a knocking noise after this location replaced a rotor, brake pads, & the caliper. When we returned to our home town, we took it to our local Precision Tune to see if they had done the job right. Not only was one of the bolts hand-tightened, another of the bolts was completely missing. We were lucky to have made it home at all. While I wouldn't recommend never visiting a Precision Tune (the one in Lawrenceville, GA is quite amazing), I would highly recommend NEVER visiting this location. It's a shame that they take advantage of people on vacation & do not care if the job is even done correctly. If you have to have something done while in Asheville, seek out somewhere with better reviews. Otherwise, you may find your newly repaired brakes missing bolts while you're driving through the mountains. read more
